Windows phones are much better on battery than iOS or Android.

      • Cause the SoC is so low powered?

Edit: Looking at devices with the same SoC, Windows Phone seems no better in terms of battery life.

Yeah combination of low end soc and low res screen seems to equal awesome battery life. My 930 absolutely sucks in terms of battery life compared against my old HTC one M8.

This Lumia seems good for the price. Only negatives I see is s200 and no 4g.

      • +7

Battery lasts long coz there is hardly any apps to play with :-)..i was a die hard windows fan who gave up after using lumia 1020 for one year and still uses windows 8 with hatred.

        • +1

Haha. We had some cheap androids going on here. You should get one of those maybe.

        • +1

@dadeadman: Of course i didn't say no to the Ebays 20% sale and happily hold a note edge for below $700:-)

        • +1

Won't be a problem when Windows 10 has been out for a while on mobile I think :)

    • +1

      Battery won't be too bad.

      Specs here: http://www.gsmarena.com/microsoft_lumia_435-6942.php

      WON'T be dual sim I don't think.

      • Looks like it is dual sim!

        Sorry Unity.

    • +1

Have lumia 630 with 1830 mah. I recharge my phone after every 2 days. Battery is little over 20% at that time. But I dont play lot of games on it. And SoC is mid range one.

      http://www.gsmarena.com/battery-test.php3

According to this 64 hrs endurance time is pretty good. So in real life about 32 hrs? I just dont like its price at more than 2x lumia 530's on specials.

  • +1

Is the screen better than the painful one on the 530?

    • +4

      Yes.

The Lumia 53x are cheaper on special but then people spend $20 unlocking them. Factor that in then there's not a huge difference. The 530 only comes with 4gb of storage, which I found out wouldn't let me update the phone. Despite using the sd card to store apps on. The 532 no such issues with its 8gb of storage. The few bucks extra is worth it for better screen and more ram in my opinion. Also some people want dual sims, not many phones at this price that offer dual sim.

  • +2

    Main camera: 2.0 MP

  • +1

Unless you want dual sim the 532 from Woolies for ~$44 is very much the same and cheaper.
Edit: 532 from Woolies is Telstra locked also

    • Yeah the 532 is better in pretty much every single way other than Dual Sim, and is cheaper to boot.

  • +7

Hmm, the dual sim functionality will go great with my two girlfriends

    • +1

Not sure if this one is dual sim. Doesnt the 435 come in 2 versions, single and dual sim

      • +1

        This is dual SIM

    • +3

Maybe each of your girlfriends needs two unlocked 435s. ;P

    • +6

Why do you need a dual sim phone for two hands?

      • +2

why you need hands if you have a handsfree unit :)

      • +1

        Hahaha burneddd, nice one pz

        • +1

don't worry I'm in the same boat… XD

        • @ProjectZero: I kinda feel your username reflects that ;)

  • +2

    Upgradable to Windows 10?

    • +1

      http://www.windowscentral.com/windows-10-mobile-upgrades-the…

Its in the first 10 phones list to get windows 10. And all the lumias with wp 8.1 will update to windows 10.

      • +1

        Cool, thanks.

      • +1

I had windows 10 mobile preview edition and Ohh boyyy….its still at least 12 months away before its stable, even though an official release is coming soon…

        • I have win 10 mobile running on my phone. Its still buggy but its now useable. If it shares APIs with windows 10 and windows 10 guys helping windows mobile, i think it will be ready by October.

    • +1

According to GSMArena - Yes and also among the first to get Windows 10

      • +1

        Nice, thank you.

  • +1

Can you put 10 windows in this

    • +39

Depends how small the windows are I guess

  • +1

2mp main camera and 0.3mp front wtf.. It says in reviews battery lucky to last a full day with medium use but can last 21 days on stand bye.

    • +1

Sounds about right. Power saving mode on wp is awesome.

  • +1

    Thanks unity.

Is this locked? If so, how much to unlock it? Looking to get a spare phone and want to try out windows phone.

    Cheers

    • +5

open your eyes and look at the pic

      • +1

Lol cheers, was actually skimming the comments and didn't notice the pic.

        • +1

          i do that at times

  • +1

Not nation wide. Checked local catalogue and it's not there
    http://d2g5na3xotdfpc.cloudfront.net/uploads/pdf/COLNSWMETRO…

    • +1

Just checked my local… wasn't there, might pop into store to see though could be on shelf only in some areas though the chances are slim.

    • +1

Not at 2121 either. Only Optus ZTE and Telstra locked mobiles on sale at my local Coles..
Must be local that HTC Desire isnt in the local one either

    • +2

Was in the Melbourne Herald Sun and Daily Telegraph and Courier Mail. Didn't see it in the other newspapers. Which states are you in?

      • ACT

        • Same price in WA too. You would think then it's nationwide.

  • +1

Someone with a windows phone tell me if the foxtel guide app still works? I had it and was crashing so uninstalled it and now says not available for this device? I have a Samsung ativ-s windows phone with 8.1 on it

    • +1

No. The App no longer is published.

      • Sux because it use to work great on my phone

        • +1

          It suxs…

I used it too and it was great..

          Foxtel will not re-release it…

  • +2

this is a dual core model with 2 megapixel FIX focus rear cam
minus some feature like glance double tap wake up on the 532, otherwise they are basically the same phone sharing the same design with identical internal frame shell.

For the locked 44.50 / 49 price tag on the 532, i would pick that over this even unlock fee factorized in, unless off course dual sim is a must

    • Yeah. The only caveat might be the rom issue, but even so, I would go for the 532 over this.

  • +1

The Lumia 532 has much better specs and is/was only 39 dollars.

    I compared here..

    http://www.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?idPhone1=6949&idPhone2=…

    • Looks very similar except for camera.

      • CPU is better in the 532 as well. The 435 has pretty much no advantages over the 532 except for being dual sim.

        • You're right, two more cores so yeah, just the dual sim that makes this useful.

    • from where?

  • +1

Yeah, 532 FTW, if you want WP.
I tried Lumia 735 for a month. Great value at $159 and very nice phone hardware wise. Awesome screen, great speaker.

    BUT Apps suck big balls.
Lots of missing apps and the apps that are there are half baked compared to what is put on the Android platform.
I don't think I'll bother trying WP again for a while. If they can greatly increase their user base somehow then that would drive app development.

  • any idea if this phone is good for using as hotspot?

    • +1

I believe Windows phones have tethering as standard features at least for 8.1.

  • +1

One important difference not mentioned is that this Lumia 435 has both the 850 mHz and 900 mHz bands that make it much better for Telstra and Vodafone 3G reception, as opposed to the 532 that only has the 900 mHz for Optus and part of Vodafone.

    • Where does it say that?

      This says only 900/2100MHz 3G.
      http://www.gsmarena.com/microsoft_lumia_435-6942.php

I highly doubt Coles would be selling the dual sim version.

      • You are not going to believe it's dual sim are you?

        http://files.ozbargain.com.au/upload/39370/32419/image.jpg

        Compatible with the following 3G frequencies 850, 900, 1900 and 2100

Edit: Nokia 532 is also compatible with the same 4 frequencies

        • Is that yours?

Fair enough then. I'll concede it's a dual sim.

          However,

          Compatible with the following 3G frequencies 850, 900, 1900 and 2100

          Where does it say that?

          This site says - "3G bands HSDPA 900 / 2100 "
          http://www.gsmarena.com/microsoft_lumia_435_dual_sim-6949.ph…

        • +1

@Frig: Yeah, that's the one I purchased yesterday.

It says that on the label where they put the model number IMEI, etc. Sorry, don't have the phone with me just now to take another picture, but believe me that information is true. It's even in the specifications link I posted above.

        • @unity1:

          Interesting. Thanks for sharing that.

Next question will be to see if it handles both sims sim-ultaneously (yeah ok, pun intended. Seriously though, if this phone can access both sims instead of having one on standby/offline I'd seriously think about getting one.

        • @Frig: This is dual sim standby

        • @unity1: you mean only one sim is active all the time right?

        • @unity1:

Thanks again. Yeah it's a shame as we are so restricted in Australia.

Other parts of the world can have dual sim phones with full operability on whatever network.

        • @fenger: No, I think that means both sims are active at the same time. See the picture I took where it shows 2 lots of reception bars at the top.

It's not like the older dual sim nokia phones where you had to press the # key to swap from one sim to the other.

I'll have to have a play around with the phone to see exactly what it can and can't do.

        • +1

          @unity1:

          Australian review here. http://www.gadgetguy.com.au/product/microsoft-lumia-435-dual…

You are right. The only time both sims not available is when 1 sim is busy (i.e. phone call). Not sure if that means browsing too?

Shame the phone is so low end. I'd like the dual sim option in my 635!

  • Internet resources suggested both models are quad band 3G. Though the review from gsmarena said 435 is dual band. Wait and see.

  • +1

Just picked one up in WA scanned at $64.50.

  • +1

Another former WP user who loved the phone but hated the app store. Apps really do drive how useful your phone will be - and the Windows app store is just miles behind Android/iOS.

  • The app quality of the ones that exist on all platforms are subpar in comparison on their wp version too.

Another alternative to this phone is the 540. I saw it today for $149 at Aldi today. Still too expensive in my book, but hopefully get to sub $100 soon enough. It's similarly is that it's dual sim like this phone. I get confused keeping up with all the different lower end wp that are all similar with slight differences.

  • did anybody find it with half price in sydney?

    • I tried a few stores south of the airport and no luck.

  • Does anyone know where in Melbourne cbd or nearby I can find it.checked around Richmond and it's out of stock

    • +1

I picked mine up at Vermont South. It's just a matter of ringing around.

  • I picked up my dual sim lumia 435 and when I open the back cover there is slot for only 1 sim ..Am I missing something

    • +1

Yes, 1 SIM slot. Mine definitely had 2 slots behind the battery and a microsd slot

      • @unity thanks for replying. I went to Google images to check because I just couldn't believe that a phone with two imei numbers and dual SIM written on the cover had a slot for just one. Yeah the micro sd slot was there..need to return this. Hope they have a spare for exchange.

        • I'd ring Mircosoft direct. It might be a manufacturing issue. Hopefully you might get something better in its place.

        • @unity1: good idea. will try that first. thanks
