  • Even $447 from Brisbane return doesn't seem too bad.

    • -1

Why does BNE get jacked on the prices when we're the closest to most of the destinations?

      • +2

        Brisbane to Denpasar 4,506km
        Perth to Denpasar 2,624km

Same reason as why it costs so much to fly from Perth to NZ yet it's so cheap to fly from east coast cities to NZ.

      • +2

Reminds me of how its cheaper to go to Malaysia from Melbourne, than it is to Uluru. which is 1/2 the distance.

      • VA are still keeping the BNE-DPS flights (and also from Sydney and Port Hedland), this is more just a Tigerair sale, which have taken over VA's old MEL/ADL/PER-DPS routes.

  • Jetstar price beat brings return flights to bali under $200 return!

    • Yes, I was just checking about the price beat (making sure it applied to international flights). I'll update the post with this info.

  • +3

Adelaide to Bali, $157 return excluding baggage(Tiger - Dates 2nd May to 4th July) , then price match the leg back to Australia with Jetstar.

    • Great tip. I've made a note of this in the OP.

      • +1

You wrote melbourne instead of adelaide.

        • Ack! - fixed now.

    • Dates?

      • How successful have people been with the Jetstar price match. As in I know they make you jump through hoops, but is it actually attainable without forensically matching all the details exactly. (they're cheeky like that)

        • +3

Call them up they do it instantly, I've never had to jump through hoops, just have all for flight codes on hand to make it quick.

  • Dates?

  • Didn't book it but FYI for those interested.
April 15th-18th 2016 (Friday-Monday) for a quick weekend getaway - $197 (no luggage) after using Jetstar pricematch.

  • Nice found this for Melb > Bali if anyone is looking for more than 1 week:

Tiger Air Australia, TT 1, Economy 6h 25m
Dep: 20/Apr/2016 09:05 MEL Melbourne, Australia
    Arr: 20/Apr/2016 13:30 DPS Denpasar/Bali, Indonesia
    Denpasar/Bali, Indonesia to Melbourne, Australia 5h 35m

Tiger Air Australia, TT 2, Economy 5h 35m
    Dep: 04/May/2016 00:20 DPS Denpasar/Bali, Indonesia
Arr: 04/May/2016 07:55 MEL Melbourne, Australia

$235 with Tiger, so low $200s with Jetstar price beat (10% off).
From memory they don't charge credit card transaction fees for price beats - last time they didn't charge me for domestic.

Tempting but I'm really not sure where I'll be in 8 months time :-/

Price beat rules with Jetstar state:
The Jetstar flight you’re comparing must be:
An Economy Starter fare. We won’t price beat our other fares: Economy Starter Plus, Economy Starter Max, Business Class and Business Class Max fares.
    Direct and one way
Leaving at a comparable time. Both flights must leave:
Within one hour of each other if they’re domestic or trans-Tasman flights
Within one hour of each other if they’re intra-Asia flights
Within the same calendar day if they’re international flights (excluding intra-Asia and trans-Tasman)

So really any flight on the same day I suppose for Aus > Bali

  • No offers from sydney? Dang!

  • +1

I've genuinely paid more money for a taxi from perth to around 50 ks away than the cost of this flight to bali

(it was very late at night/early in the morning, had to throw money at the taxi driver to even get him to consider it, about a dozen already refused me!! - I already tried sleeping at the train station until the 6 am train but there was a ferocious storm and nowhere to hide from it, transport here is a joke)

    • +1

I used to report those taxi drivers.. so utterly disrespectful.. go uber, cheaper and better!

  • Tempting but there is a wide world out there and as my last four "international" holidays have been to Bali I should probably expand my travel horizons

Hard to do when Bali is a 3 hour flight away and a week there is comparable to weekend 3 hours down south.

I expect that the current volcano activity will settle down by then but I'm not sure how often it rears it's head.

The cancelled flights and whatnot have cost a few travellers extra as their travel allowance doesn't cover them as such.

Pity Bali is a dump otherwise I'd be all over this…
Good price for those who dare.

    • +5

      Get out of Kuta.

Theres much else to see and do

      • good question, if i ever visit Bali id like to stay in a much upper class area. is there any places in bali with 5 star hotels and minimal beggars/sellers?

        • +1

I'd recommend Nusa Dua or Seminyak for beaches. Ubud is my favourite as it's cooler mountain climate and you get to see the real Balinese tradition. Combine these two areas to get the most out of Bali.

        • @gt-man:

          Love me some ubud.

Best duck and suckling pig to be had there

  • What happens if there is ash clouds? :P

    • +1

You get delayed and you pay for it.

  • That's interesting. Starting 23rd March Virgin Australia will end its Melbourne to Bali services and cede this to Tiger airways - So from Melbourne there'll be no more full service offering from the Virgin group to Bali. Would you fly Tiger airways to Bali? Source - http://www.ausbt.com.au/virgin-australia-to-cede-bali-thaila…

  • wish there was something from syd :( I was hoping for a nice birthday holiday (april 2016) & bali would have been perfect!

  • Seems like a good deal. I would have thought that it would get more + votes than it has.

  • any actual dates for Perth end of april? The cheapest I can find is $292.

  • +1

  • can someone explain how to get jetstar to price match?
Just show them the flight numbers/ times or show them a link? Thanks!

      • hey thanks heaps for that…wow the one hour squeeze is tough!
I've found some that leave within 1 hour 45 mins from Adelaide but none within an hour…
        too bad.
Thanks for the link though it will be great for future reference. Added to favourites!

The 1 hr rule does not apply to these Bali flights.

          @rd:

          thanks heaps.
got adelaide to bali with 20Kg of luggage for 150 each return.
          awesome.

          OzBargain I love ya.

  • TIGERAIR WARNING: My 2am return flight from Perth to Sydney was cancelled without notice. They told me that there were no available seats for one week! So stuck at airport with two young children trying to book to get back to Sydney. Cost me more than 2K. They obviously do this regularly because there were even police waiting when we arrived to check-in - so it must be a procedure they follow when they decide to cancel flights without notice. TIGERAIR NEVER AGAIN.

    • -1

Didn't your travel insurance cover it ?

      • Most people don't get travel insurance for domestic.

        Vj vj

        • +2

Forgot to mention: Yes I had insurance but it only covers you for tigerair related costs - so refund of airfare which they did anyway. But I still had to shell out 2K to Qantas so I could get back to Sydney the same morning and the cheapest flights where $700 each with Qantas. Because of the cancellation I also missed a connecting flight to Albury for work so more charges. NONE OF THIS IS COVERED BY THE INSURANCE - TIGERAIR ARE REAL CON ARTISTS BEWARE.
