    Far out.

@tightarse, I give it a month before you've conned retailers into paying US to take SSD stock off their hands.

Just in time for a new htpc build

Excellent price! Thanks. Holding out for a great price on a 240/250GB though.

    • Same here. But it's damn hard to resist these cheap 120GB's..

      Effectively, $59 for 240GB delivered.

        Effectively, $56 for 240GB delivered.

        • Got that one twice. Picked one up this morning.
It's a blur, what deal we get, sometimes! :D

        • +11

it really isn't effectively $56 delivered as you have to spend on your next ebay purchase to use the $50 voucher. what is effectively is that your next $50 ebay purchase will be free. so you've still effectively spent $106 dollars.

        • @CVonC: it is $56 for 240GB, while $50 for others… lol.

        • @CVonC: Semantics. The reason I wrote "Effectively".

I bought two items from eBay in the last fortnight, and saved $50. Spending $50 on eBay in a month is a given, and easier than breathing.

I told a friend about getting a $56 SSD, and he was rapt. Did the deal again, for him. He pays $56, and I get a voucher for what I would've spent anyway.

        • @Utopian:

Yes effectively $56/$59 for only your friend who benefited from your kind generosity. But your claim of people missing out on a $56 deal is misleading as they would need someone as kind and generous as you to take advantage of the promotion. The general and normal case would still be a $106/$109 spend.

      • +3

Wish they included SA for that :(

        • Yeah was busy with work and thought it finished on the day of the 4th not at the end of the 3rd :(

After the recent click and collect fiasco on these, I'm not ready to trust pcbyte. I'm still waiting, as are many ozbargainers, for any sign that our ssds will arrive.

    • just got mine for pickup this morning.

    • +5

It's not PCByte's fault for Woolies/BigW CnC sorting time. If you had chosen free postage you would have your SSD in 2-3 days, but everyone knows why you all went for CnC option (for the $50 ebay voucher) - check previous PCByte SD card deals, almost all the comments indicate rapid delivery. Bought many times from them before.

      • -4

You don't understand. We all took the cancel offer because we wanted the $50 eBay voucher. We didn't expect delivery to take two weeks. If you had read my link, you would have found out what the problem is.

        • +3

I understand. I bought $100+ worth of stuff too (not SSDs though). PCByte is not the problem. The Woolies/BigW CnC system is. 2 packages arrived quickly, with 1 package a week after, all 3 were part of the same transaction. Why do you think ebay offered $50 in the first place?

        • -5

@cwongtech: I only have pcbyte's word. Why do you insist it is not their problem?

        • +6

@barryquinn: Because I've bought from them many times before and their shipping of SD cards have always arrived within 2 days of purchase. Also visited their office before (for free pickup) and it's right next to the AusPost Silverwater facility, that's why their "free postage" deals (they actually use a standard 70c postage option to send them) have always felt like express postage for a lot of other OzB members.
For Woolies/BigW CnC, I had 2 packages that "arrived" according to tracking, but its arrival location for tracking is at Chullora (Seems like everything for AusPost goes through Chullora).
          Here's Proof
          http://auspost.com.au/track/track.html?id=KG81023005
          http://auspost.com.au/track/track.html?id=996012553168010083…
If it gets delivered at Chullora, that means the ebay sellers (including PCByte) are instructed to send it to a Chullora address for sorting to your collection point.
Normal AusPost tracking (non-CnC) will have arrival Chullora, then "onboard with driver for delivery".

From your previous post it definitely bounced from North Ryde LPO and back to Alexandria. That's not PCByte's fault.
The deal date was 30th of July (Thursday). Assuming PCByte sent it out then (which they usually do), then it would have been delivered (wrongly) on the monday (3rd of Aug). According to your tracking details that you've posted, it left North Ryde on the 4th of Aug, to be redirected back to either the Chullora or Alexandria AusPost sorting facility. Once again it's not PCByte's fault. They would have to have sent it out on either the Thursday (30th july) or Friday (31st July) for it to reach North Ryde on Monday (3rd Aug) or 4th Aug.
S*** happens in life, and unfortunately it happened to your SSD delivery, which caused a delay.
TLDR: Pull up your calendar and look at the dates, the deal date, and the tracking dates of the parcel. Obviously the parcel was bounced around, and that's Auspost's fault not PCByte.

        • +1

@cwongtech: no need to neg me. Pcbyte didn't supply a tracking number originally. I asked for one after a week. The tracking number could have been for anybody. Pcbyte, eBay, bigw, owe a lot of people apologies. I have also bought stuff from Pcbyte in the past, without any problem. That is why, although criticising them, I haven't negged them. But I will be raising the whole issue with eBay, and expect them to do something about it. Some people have trigger-happy negging fingers. I'm not one of them.

        • @barryquinn:
For the record I haven't negged any comments. However from the tracking records you have posted, highly doubtful they could have found one that coincidentally bounced from North Ryde (I'm from there too), at such a close date to the deal, when the CnC point was at macq big w.

Pcbyte, eBay, bigw, owe a lot of people apologies.

Not sure why pcbyte owe you an apology since they complied with your request for your tracking number.

        • +1

@cwongtech: According to the guidance to sellers using cnc, I, and several other people in the thread, should have been supplied with a tracking number when the Ssd cards were shipped. I wasn't. I don't even know if the tracking number I was given was mine. The result is that I don't have my Ssd card. Pcbyte has not communicated with me except when I have queried them. If my item bounced, it may have been because pcbyte didn't address it properly. You have no evidence that it was not their fault.

        • @barryquinn:

According to the guidance to sellers using cnc, I, and several other people in the thread, should have been supplied with a tracking number when the Ssd cards were shipped.

I have a package that didn't have a tracking number for CnC, which came through.

The result is that I don't have my Ssd card.

The result is AusPost screwed up and you're raging at PCByte.

If my item bounced, it may have been because pcbyte didn't address it properly. You have no evidence that it was not their fault.

Well it looks like pw2002au got his SSD, as did a few other OzB members in the other post (although it is clearly delayed). If pcbyte didn't address it properly then those OzB members would not have received their products.
You have no evidence it was their fault. Looks like you're using guilty until proven innocent method.
I'm just telling you to look at the tracking details available. It's fairly obvious PCByte did send your package out on either Thursday (the deal date) or Friday (day after). If it wasn't addressed properly, then it wouldn't have redirected to Alexandria at all.

        • @cwongtech:
Can vouch for PC byte's efficiency and prompt delivery.

        • -1

@cwongtech: Do you work for pcbyte? It's pretty obvious from the other thread that the same thing went wrong with an awful number of other shipments, all in Sydney. Nobody was given a tracking number, despite this being an eBay requirement. Most of these people have not seen their ssds. Pcbyte has not helped these people. The rep has asked for their details, but with no further information given in the threads. The rep should have given an informative explanation for what has happened, and a promise that pcbyte would investigate what had happened, and make sure it didn't happen again.

        • @barryquinn:

The rep should have given an informative explanation for what has happened

          They did

          Do you work for pcbyte?

Nope. I work for rebel sport. Would you like a photo of my uniform to settle your crazy accusation? I'm a satisfied customer who's visited their office for pickup and bought a few MicroSD cards from deals posted here. Since you live around North Ryde, it's only a 23 min drive from Macquarie Centre. Check out the map. PCbyte is across the road from the Australia Post Silverwater Hub

Pcbyte has not helped these people.

The rep has responded to people. The correct procedure is to take it to PM so no private details are flying around, this isn't a Facebook wall post where conversations are plastered for the world to see.
Have you seen Ocean's Eleven? When Linus (fake gambling inspector role) starts to tell Frank (fake dealer) about some problems? Terry Benedict tells them to take it off the floor. Look at the DSE Facebook page, it's always best to ask for contact details so that instead of the customer raging, you can initiate communication and help them
Clearly the pcbyte rep has been trying to initiate contact:
          Example1
          Example2
          Example3
          Example4
          Example5
Look here, lo and behold, it's Woolies staff being lazy, a common trait of bad retail workers
Oh, someone else who's trying to pickup from Big W Macq who has the same issue as you!
This isn't standard retail where the more crazy you act, the faster you get what you want. This is OzBargain, not whingepool.

        • @cwongtech: This is ozbargain. If we have problems receiving goods we have purchased, we warn each other. I actually live close to Silverwater, but that is irrelevant. I am warning people that if they use cnc from pcbyte, they may not receive their goods very quickly. I still haven't received mine. It's now 12 days since my order.

        • @barryquinn:

I am warning people that if they use cnc from pcbyte, they may not receive their goods very quickly. I still haven't received mine. It's now 12 days since my order.

Fair enough, though I think that's ebay CnC in general, there's a reason why they offered the $50 voucher, it's new and they want people to try what ebay thought was a finished product/system (clearly not). All my packages would have arrived faster if they didn't pass through the woolies/bigw system as an additional middleman (but I wanted the $50 voucher).

        • @cwongtech: I agree with you. This is the point I wanted to make, and the reason I have still not negged pcbyte.

  • Does this SSD require or come with any 3.5" bracket?

If not, is it ok to buy a cheap bracket from ebay in China? like this —> http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/2-5-to-3-5-SSD-HDD-Notebook-Hard-…

First time buying an SSD so I don't know what I need. Thanks

    • I'm sure the cheapies are fine - if it's going in a desktop you could get away with double sided tape! There aren't any vibrations to worry about…

    • +2

I found those brackets often do not fit well. In fact, I bought that exact one to fit a 2.5" Samsung 840 into a server. It wouldn't fit properly, and ended up improvising with cardboard and tape. Given that an SSD has no moving parts and weighs next to nothing, you can consider sticking it to the pc. Just do not fully cover it in tape because it would get too hot.

      • Ok cool. Is it ok to leave the SSD drive inside the bottom of my pc case without sticking it?

        • No if it is not physically stuck to the pc with tape or screws it will not work

        • +3

Yeah, it'll be fine - just remember it is loose if you ever move it!

        • @senorclean:
Can it be screwed to at least one of the 3.5inch inch HDD screw? or best to tape it?

        • Yep, I've got one just dangling on the power cord at about 45 degrees. Been like that for years. Even the dust doesn't mind.

        • +1

@mmd: either way is fine - they are insulated, don't weigh much or have any moving parts so do whatever is convenient.

        • looks like the neggers didnt get the sarcasm

        • @mrwillc:
No I thought you were being serious.
          Fixed it with a + :)

    • I use blu-tack to hold it to any convenient surface inside my desktop.

      She will be right!

    • I use Velcro tape to stick them down in my cases.

  • Thanks TA & PC Byte, placed my first order. Cheers

  • Gah, my order was paid for but got a "No items in cart error", and no confirmation. I hope it worked…

Edit: Oh wow, and a fast customer response - thanks PCByte.

hmm what's sandisk's ssd reliability compared to samsung's? how long do these generally last for?

  • Great, bought it. Perfect for a linux install in my old shitbox lappy. Thanks!

  • +2

Good value but… Give a Crucial or Intel deal and I'm all in. Not keen on Sandisk here I'm afraid :(

    • Samsung Evo is on my wish list.

  • sweet deal….perfect timing for a Win10 rebuild.

  • Cheers mate, bit the bullet and gonna put this in my brother's gaming pc for when he arrives back from o/s. Should be a nice improvement over his old mechanical drive.

  • Are these internal or external drives? How to install on laptop?

    • Naked drives > internal.
Depends on laptop, is not difficult on most.
Search YouTube for a video of "How to replace laptop HD with SSD"
This is an example for a Dell Latitude https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Hs2l9XXOrQ
First result on a search for "How to replace my laptop HD with SSD Dell Latitude"

      • is this only for laptops?

        • Not at all… works fine in a desktop as well.
I think you can actually fit one in the PS3 as well!

        • @cristtos:

sadly i'm still old school IDE on my desktop lol
assume then you need some form of Sata connector if you got this for your desktop then?

        • @prankster: I would suggest something like this http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/4-Port-SATA-to-PCI-Sil3114-SERIAL… but you need to make sure is bootable to take advantage of the system-on-ssd idea…

        • @cristtos:

He really needs at least SATAII to take advantage of an SSD.

Assuming that card even works with the SSD, the speed is limited to 150MB/s which is about half of SATAII speeds, you will also lose the ability to send native TRIM commands which can reduce the lifespan of the drive. Also can be a little complicated to set up.

Strongly consider a new Pc if you're still using IDE lol!

        • @scrimshaw:

I agree - I suppose its been working perfectly fine and haven't had the need to upgrade although i'm sure a new comp with better updated graphics card will help me play the latest COD games better :)

  • Great price. Just ordered one. Thanks TA

  • +2

Sandisk SSDs are becoming the new Eneloop.

  • If I make this my boot/OS drive and then have a 7200RPM drive as a secondary drive, will I still benefit 100% from the performance increase? Or will the 7200 still slow down the PC?

    • +3

you will benefit, unless you save programs and files to the 7200RPM Hard drive and are trying to access it.
Save your OS, main/daily use programs on the SSD and stuff like music, movies, and any other junk on the HDD.

  • When I add to cart then go to view cart, cart is empty :( Even before making payment.

    • Hi Skizzy,

      Good morning.
Let me look into this for you.
