AGL Electricity and Gas Offer (Honeymoon Offer $100 off First Bill)

153

Just signed up for this offer. Seems very good.$100 off your bills as well if signed up online.

28% off electricity
16% off gas

Just realised they had sneakily changed my discount from 12% to 7% after my contract expired. Please be careful of the contract period. Thank God for the cooling off period

Please mention $100 Off in title.

  • Struggling to see where it specifies 28% off electricity…

    Best one is 12%.

Can you please link or explain how you got 28%?

    • Am referring to QLD
2% double up discount and 10% direct debit.

  • Which state?

  • 18% pay on time and 10% double up discount

    • +5

how do the KW rates compare to others. and the daily charges.

  • I am in NSW

    • Wow that's way better. I'm with Energy Australia (signed up in June) both Gas electricity. No double up discount and only $50 off the first electricity bill. 15% electricity pay on time 12% gas pay on time (originally 13% and 10% but negotiated higher). Must be due to online sales and not phone based? Or is AGL that much better value?

  • SA 24% and $50 online signup offer ~ typical. I just signed up myself. Best deal for sa from my research.

  • +5

Just looked & their 'account setup fees' are nearly $100. Not worth it…

    • +6

Yeh AGL are terrible, they spend a lot of money having sales people run around, I gave them a shot to switch promising discounts and no setup fees. The next bill I received they closed an re-opened my account and charged me $100+ setup fee, I called their customer service but got the run-around with their "resolution" center, never using them again lol.

      • +1

I was with AGL for 10 years for the gas supply, I never received any discounts. When I found out my work mate had some kind of discount with AGL,so I called AGL and asked them why I never received any discounts all these years. They told me because I never asked for it. I switched to Energy Australia immediately,I received $100 off first my bill and 12% usages discount. My bill is cheaper then AGL's bill!! Almost the same usuage.

    • Um… Not seeing the account setup fees any where. Are you talking about new connections (which doesn't apply to retailer change)?

I'm with EA and they just gave me a $150 credit for keeping me after mentioning the AGL offer, and there is no exit fee. They even said that "you are free to move to a different provider once you receive the credit on your next bill".

      • Just talked to a rep & it seems I was mistaken - the fees are only for new connections, not transfers from another provider. So there's no fees in this scenario (according to the rep).

  • +5

AGL are pretty useless in my experience. God forbid they make an error on a bill, because they will never be able to sort it out

    • They take forever to sort out bill problems, but they are the largest energy supplier in Australia. Their online services and customer service is pretty good.

Your autocorrect for full sentences' wasn't on..

        • huh?
There's nothing wrong with the sentence except for the "is" at the end.
Run along now you old muppet.

        • @tendollar: Is a good start, thank you Mr Tendollars. You commend their support in one sentence then bag them for the same thing in the next.. Got to run, school yard antics waits for no one.

I'm in NSW and just negotiated a deal with EnergyAustralia to receive 22% discount for power and 16% discount for gas, if paid on time.

I have to reconsider my position in light of this deal.

    • Is this on the total bill or just usage?

      • Usage

    • +1

Energy Australia is not owned by Australians.

    • Can also get those rates from onebigswitch.com.au

Yep definitely compare the pricing per k/w block etc and supply charges as they differ between many providers. AGL has never been all that strong when compared with others such as dodo / origin even after the discounts. This may have changed.

  • I cannot see the tariff rates for the "Honeymoon Plan" - any idea ?

  • Can anyone find the conditions for exiting thr 12 month contract early? Their T&C's so bloody obscured

    • You need to go through the application process to see the rates. Just need to put in your address etc to see which metering systems you've got.

Better check against Dodo power if you have that in your area.
Just signed up with Dodo today via ISelect giving 2000 Qantas FF, and Dodo giving $100 credit with 30% of electricity and 20% off Gas.

Rates were lower than some of the bigger resellers like Origin and AGL for my area in Watsonia North Victoria.

Just a fyi "Your market contract has no fixed term. However, at the end of your 1 year energy plan period, you
will be placed on a new energy plan."

  • AGL are doing quite well on the ASX recently, have a market cap of 11.26bn, no wonder they put up their daily service charge 30-40% recently, was it to keep shareholders happy….

  • Click energy also do referrals for $50 for you have an account and $50 for your referral if they sign up.
Recently put up their daily service charge 30-40% or currently is $1.24ex GST.
But who cares, each energy retailer will raise their fees eventually.

The Honeymoon offer is for non solar panel customers only.

Feel free to add to OP.

    • Would love to add to the post but not sure how to

      • Press the report link under 1bug's post and politely ask a mod to do it for you.

      • Just copy-&-paste …copy the relevant comments, EDIT the deal, and paste.

The easiest way to select the correct State is to use the LOCATION drop-down on the AGL website (near the Search bar).

  • I was with dodo and this offer is definitely better than dodo's which is why I switched. Also there is no early termination fee

    • Dodo has an offer for 20% off electricity and gas, plus $100 credit. That seems pretty good.

Can I ask why you favour this deal from AGL?

  • Plan is not applicable for those who have solar panels.

  • Was denied a change the other day

  • +1

AGL automatically roll you over to a new plan once your plan expires.
They will then charge you an ETC once you try to get out of the new plan.
    Ridiculous.

  • Bait & switch BS

  • +1

Just called AGL, not available for solar user.

  • So they crank up bills by 80% in the last 5 years, and now offer us back 20% in "savings" ??

Don't reward energy companies with your apathy. Ring up and bargain with each of them before fixing into any contract.
Every 12 months I pretty much bounce from retailer to retailer, who WILL outbid the other to get you to churn over (and waive any sign on fees).

Dont be a lemming and just let these guys charge through the nose. They LOVE people who think all energy companies charge the same.

Plus Seniors Card holders get an extra 2% discount for each plan, and they also get $100 credit for online sign-up (NSW & VIC only)

NSW: up to 30% off Electricity usage and 16% off Gas usage (12 month plans)
    http://www.agl.com.au/campaigns/seniors/seniors-nsw

VIC: up to 40% off Electricity usage and 20% off Gas usage (12 months for Elec, 24 months for Gas)

Stay away from agl, had plenty of experience with them to realise if you trust to much into them and don't monitor your meter(s) constantly than they will abuse you and charge rates that are physically impossible for your family home to consume. You will find that happens alot of people, the worse is when they do it to people who don't know any better and pay the bills without ever checking.

    • +1

That is exactly what happened to me for the last 10 years with AGL. After I switched to energy Australia,my billed dropped by 20-30 % per quarter. I will definitely stay clear away from AGL !!

    • i think you are 100% correct that they make the bills up.

Even when we were away for a couple of months, our bill went up !

When I am being a total frugal scrooge or totally wasteful it makes zero difference to the bill.

Not even an estimated bill either… it's like they just type in numbers that could look plausible.

  • +1

Just went through this in Vic. Was an AGL customer and to try keeping me they offered 40% off electricity and 20% off Gas (usage only).
That ended up considerably worse than the offer by Simply Energy (RACV customer plan) - which was 32% off the total bill and 18% off Gas, no cancellation fee and including rates and usage price differences.

Overall I am still at around 10% cheaper on the total bill by switching away from AGL.

Best Electricity comparison tool I found was:
    https://mpp.switchon.vic.gov.au/

    Gas:
    http://www.yourchoice.vic.gov.au/

Give your provider a good push - by default I was going to get less than half of the discount from AGL than the final offer.

  • I recently moved to another unit, and made a mistake of re-signing AGL 2 year contract.. Any advise on how to come out of AGL?

    • Are you still within the cooling off period?

      • No, actually it is over 6 months now :(

        • It depends on your offer. There might be no exit fees.

    • contracts (Break fees) aren't lawful in some deregulated energy markets.

  • FYI….http://www.thefifthestate.com.au/business/public-community/report-exposes-greenwashing-of-australias-biggest-electricity-generators/73126

The Dirty Three report states that any claims to be green made by the companies do not stand up when compared to performance data. It was prepared in collaboration with Market Forces and Environmental Justice Australia, drawing on sources including the National Pollutant Inventory and the Australian Energy Regulator’s 2014 State of the Market report.
Origin, AGL and EnergyAustralia together supply over 70 per cent of Australia’s small electricity customers and control 46 per cent of the nation’s electricity generation capacity, operating facilities including coal-burning power stations, gas-fired electricity plants and landfill gas flaring facilities.

Let's hope the divorce rate is not super-high after the Honeymoon rate.

    • actually it is an imaginary honeymoon, given you have fork $100 to move in ;)

      • There is no set up fee

      • +1

Just talked to a rep & it seems I was mistaken about the setup fees - the fees are only for new connections, not transfers from another provider. So there's no fees in this scenario (according to the rep).

        • Thanks for that.

  • Now to see if anyone can research good rates for Home and Contents, and Car Insurance too for that matter. My Car is very rarely used so in the LOW KM range.

    • +1

I just did both of them in the last 2 weeks as well.

Woolworths limited km policy (5000km) halved my premium (and I tried plenty). (they also threw in $50 gift card when I said last year they sent me one). Never hurts to ask.

YOUI (contents only) was again by far the cheapest (~$225 for $100k+ of contents). Also worth ringing YOUI every year - they have reduced my premium every time I call and usually without asking for it.

      • Thanks Locutus - very helpful
