18 Piece Clamp Set $8 - @ Bunnings Warehouse Hoppers Crossing VIC

640

Was today at bunnings to get the screwdriver set that was here a few days ago. Saw a 18 piece clamp set for just $8.- which seems to be pretty good. Not tradie quality but people like me which will use it from time to time only definitely good enough.

Sorry didn't know. Will do next time.

      The clamps!

    • Have Bunnings got anything good for bending?

  • +3

    Is this nation-wide?

  • Not tradie quality

What would more expensive clamps offer that these do not?

    • +2

I have some of these - the pads slip off if you're not just right…

I have some of these and think the metal is too soft - on mine the lock that holds the clamps tight bites into the metal and leaves an indent, making them a pain in the ass to release. Also have some crescent clamps (which bunnings don't seem to stock any more) that are very similar but work heaps better.

The grips don't break the first time you use them.

Strength. I've broken these bar clamps can break when what I'd clamped tries to move too much. The spring clamps are probably fine though. I'd be willing to get more at that price.

  • Seems pretty cheap at $8 for 18 piece! Nation wide or state wide at least?

  • Interesting to see things like this called a "18 PCE CLAMP SET" instead of "18 CLAMPS" - must make it more attractive marketing wise.

  • I have a set of these I boyght at Fyshwick Canberra about 6 months ago on clearance. I can't remember how much I paid, it was definitely more than $8 and I was quite happy, so $8 is a bargain for sure.

Disclaimer: Clamps may not actually clamp

Great deal. Got several of these myself, differing clearance ones. But they're poo. Maybe useful for gripping planes/models etc.

Grabbed irwin quick grip (what industry uses) 2-for-1 packs. Never looked back.

Even these ones have your knuckles/hands cracking before they give up.

    • I have about 10 of the pro ones and the cheap ones as linked above. The cheap ones work brilliantly, just that when clamping hard, the handle may flex a little but still work time after time and not break. I've put them through some real abuse too. Worth while…

Can anyone confirm that these are available nationwide?

I couldn't find any in Kirrawee, NSW. I'm guessing it's just one store.

      • Thanks! You saved me a trip :-)

    • None in Morley WA

We had some of these, but honestly, I don't think they're even worth $8. The plastic literally snapped in my hand while I was tightening a clamp. Spoke to the guys at Bunnings and they said they're pretty awful too. Ended up going for the Irwin clamps as a replacement set. Much better.

    +1 on being terrible.
Don't waste your cash on cheap clamps. Irwin or nothing unfortunately.

These are okay as hobby grade clamps for serious work, I recommend Crescent Clamp. Bunnings used to sell them but no more.

Not sure what kind of clamping people were doing to break these - I've made a few bits of (albeit amatuer) furniture with these and they worked a treat. Would highly recommend, even for twice that price.
Only gripe is I wish they included a 500-600mm straight bar in the set so you could reuse two of the adjustable clamping handles on it (for benchtops or similar). Would be a great addition.
