      • not trolling, and not stupid.
the screen is lower res than a flagship (eg SGS6, SGSedge, Note5)
the cpu is crapier than a flagship
        no nfc
        no ir blaster
        lower res camera
        this phone is nothing special.

Everyone can make their own opinion on what phone suits them. Just trying to help those who don't have a ticket and want this phone.

  • +1

Dunno if I should get this or moto x :/

    • -3

I've beenburnt twice by moto. I have blacklisted them. Good luck deciding. Phone shopping is so fun.

    • +1

Moto has been quiet. the new G is selling like hotcakes overseas. Still no news of AU stock?

    • +1

      Moto X for me.

    • +1

Wait to see what the new Nexus will be.

    • I'd go moto x

    • Moto for sure, although I'll replace my OPO with the Moto G, I think.

  • +5

Based on the terrible terrible quality of the first ,massive touch screen issues after 2 replacements by Oneplus and 4 firmwares updates they sent me and even worse support I wouldn't touch this. Even without it having NFC which is a massive loss since NFC is pretty big here.

      • lol…. i was so close to replying to your first post and saying you need to find an apple thread to comment in… thanks for the confirmation :P

        • -7

          its a tough crowd today.

        • +1

@tuzii: not just today :) im sure you've been around OzB enough to know that ..hehe

      • -3

I neg'd your top comment tuzii, because the OP2 looks like a great phone. But holy crap you are spot on here. Not sure why you got neg'd so bad, because iPhones have (by FAR) the best support system, timely updates across the board and you can get replacements whenever you wish (as long as it's within warranty of course) - which addresses willoz's top concerns.

        • I've heard many horror stories about Apple's "support": One friend was told "There's nothing wrong with your iPhone!" when the screen started lifting from the body. Another friend was charged $449 to replace the screen on their iPhone 6+ after the Apple "genius" broke the digitiser whilst fixing a crack in the glass.

On the other hand, Google Play support has been reliable and the support staff on the phone are actually helpful, and don't accuse you of exaggerating problems. I've had a Nexus 5 power button fail a couple of times, and every time, Google offers an immediate replacement, express-shipped to my door. Is this by far worse than Apple's support system?

But I guess you iSheep would pull out all sorts of unsubstantiated claims to defend your beloved Fruit.

        • @victorwilson:

both apple and google have good support. the only difference is apple you get a replacement on the spot with google you need to wait a week, but you only have to send the old one when you receive the new one.

so, both have good after sale support. I don't know about oneplus

How is NFC big here? I like it, it is so easy to connect to a bluetooth audio devices, other than that I cannot seen to find any other widespread use of NFC.

      • +1

NFC least useful feature is BT pairing. Will be rolling out to Opal in Sydney in the future plus all the banks are jumping on it for payments. Commbank and Westpac for example.

      • +1

Commonwealth Bank, Westpac, Credit Union Australia (CUA) and Bendigo Bank (not NFC enabled for this) have released mobile payments apps, while ANZ Bank and National Australia Bank (NAB) say they are planning to make their own moves soon.

and there's also Cash with Optus
        https://cash.optus.com.au/

      • +1

It's also quite useful for transferring files, links, YouTube videos etc between devices (via Android Beam).
The NSW Government Opal Travel app also lets you scan your Opal card to check your balance, tap on/off status and your weekly travel reward count.

    • did the 2 replacement fix the touchscreen issue?

  • +8

also no 4G 700mhz, in case you didn't know.

    • +1

This is a pretty important downside about these phones

    • bugger…big deal breaker then ! Guess I'll still to my ONE then

    • I'm not really sure what bands to be looking out for but I see a number of references to "700" in the following link.
      http://www.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?idPhone1=6902

Are non of them appropriate for Australia?

      • Yeah those are the american 700's, in Australia we use Asian 700 which is band 28.
Basically the US version of this phone will be no good at all to be used here on 4G (lack of the most important 1800 and 700)

      • I believe you'll need to get the EU version of this phone which is apparently better suited (so i've read .. I havent personally confirmed)

        • Thanks for the information. Will be handy to know for any mobile purchase, which I am in the process of doing.

  • Getting it cheap is one thing, obtaining warranty is another.

    • +1

Is it really cheap? For the price, I think LG G4 is a better buy.

  • +9

The first one was ok given the $349 price tag and strong AUD (I still sold mine coz the screen's horrible). However, this time around it's $600+.I would rather get a G4 for that price.

    • Or wait for the moto x style or huawei nexus coming into the next couple of months for probably around the same $600ish mark.

      • Yeah I'm hanging for the Nexus (probably the LG model). If the rumors are true I'll definitely be getting one. Moto X style is tempting, though the battery life of that has me slightly worried (pending reviews).

    • +1

I am waiting for G4 to be around 400-500 range and I'll buy one!

  • +3

Yeah the USD to aud really kills the value of this phone. The first one I got for $350 (after 20% off eBay sale). At $610 it's hard to recommend over other more valued brands.

Edit: pretty much what maxhu said, whoops.

    • Great thing about the One was the price above all (got my 64gb for $430) At $600 its definitely a pass..

      • -1

        You paid too much.

Most got it for about $350 to $360 cos of ebay sale.

This price no longer makes the OPO2 a value for money phone, which is it's main selling point.

Quality control was also crap for this Oneplus one.

Cos of the touchscreen issue from first phone, and this higher price
I would not get this phone.

        • I didn't pay too much. When was the EBay sale and that was from a reseller yeh? I bought direct from Oneplus as I have no interest in the resellers. The $430 included delivery aswell.

Anyway the Oneplus One was a huge success and I've had no problems with it so personally have no gripe. Own the phone since September 2014 and its been running great.

Oneplus two is just too much money with the current exchange rate. Only thing wrong with it. You clearly had a bad experience.

        • @geo365:

Touch screen issue is well known amongst oneplus users…

OPO finally acknowledge it after not admitting the issue
They tried to fix this with some firmware updates…not sure if it is successful

  • +1

fyi you can also get it from oppomart for more ($460 excluding delivery …which is maybe another 20-30usd)

  • Hmm…. This brand or Huawei P8. Saw Huawei P8 at one of shopping centre and it looks a good phone
