    These are MSDN licenses

    • -2

      no, this aren't.
You can see our previous Win8 ozbargain: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/204806 when we were selling Win 8.1 Pro retail.

      • +6

Then show us a link from Microsoft on these licenses rather than two unknown sites

        • -2

If this wasn't a Retail key, you couldn't activate it on the ISO downloaded from Microsoft Official site. (linked above)

        • +3

@gamers-outlet: MSDN keys are supposed to still work with retail ISOs.

        • +1

@gamers-outlet: I have MSDN subscription and I'm 100% sure MSDN keys just work on the retail ISO from MS. Stop LYING.

        • @gamers-outlet:
This is correct, as confirmed by Microsoft themselves.

        • @nbn:
          MSDN keys work!

If your having problems then Microsoft recommends you contact their support.

        • @Ebany:

          MSDN keys work!

That was what I said. Not sure what your point was.

        • @nbn:
How is the OP lying if the keys work?

    • I agree, I do not trust the legitimacy of this deal at all.

      • You guys bother to look at the previous deal? This has all been covered several times…

        • +6

Just because the keys work as do the much cheaper ones from Reddit does not mean they are legal.

Microsoft could kill these keys any day.

          But they probably won't.

There is no mechanism for these to be legal, none.

        • +2

@SamR: Aren't reddit ones usually shown to be MSDN or OEM or VLK? The previous ones were showing for people as registering as retail…

          Anyway…

        • +2

Yes I did, and as a former Software Licensing Specialist who has dealt with Microsoft Licenses for years, this is a shady deal.

        • @kudoz83:

The ones a 'friend' got all show as retail…

        • But my retail friends have all got the show?

        • @kudoz83: ;
No they aren't, they'll register as Retail under Microsoft VAMT (Volume Activation Management Tool) which can tell you which type of key it is. Retail, MSDN, MAK (volume license Multiple Activation Key) will show up in the status.
I highly doubt these are MSDN keys, I'm willing to bet they will show up as Retail but they'll be purchased via a Volume Licensing agreement, which will have a clause that says they aren't to be sold.
Don't believe me that they will come up as retail? Install VAMT yourself.
Tbh I'm really surprised the O.P. hasn't shown a screenshot of the keys showing up as retail.
Looks like a lazy middleman reseller.

        • +1

          @SamR:
Actually SamR, according to [Microsoft] ONLY genuine keys will work.

        • +1

@cwongtech: I use a Dreamspark key and it shows up as Retail - http://puu.sh/jGEWZ.png

        • @bentan77:
Woah what VAMT version is that :O
My Win7Pro keys from Dreamspark show as Enterprise MAK key, but Project 2013 show as Retail keys.
Also acquired some MSDN keys from googlefu and they show up as MSDN keys, so dreamspark and MSDN keys are definitely different in VAMT
          Strange.

Also, you can upgrade from Windows 7 and 8 directly to 10 for free from Microsoft. I think this lasts for a year after the release.

  • +1

These are not the genuine retail license sold through main/legitimate distributors. Compare the prices at the Microsoft store or other shops.

  • -1

Reps gone silent :-) you're pitching to the wrong crowd!

    • -4

I am not going silent mate, just have nothing to add.
As I wrote in the previous comment, MSDN copies can't be redeemed on the installer on the official Microsoft site.
It is up to you to decide if you want it or not.

      • They will work just fine with the ISO from MS site.

      • +1

MSDN keys are essentially retail keys that are intended for MSDN and TechNet subscribers. They also have up to 10 activations, so you could be easily selling the same key for 10 people.

I work with a Microsoft Gold Partner and am a reseller myself. I've seen it before.

        • They will show up as MSDN in VAMT though.

  • +1

    MSDN licences not retail

    • MSDN licenses are retail licenses… just not to be sold in such a way, the license is for whomever has the subscription.

  • +3

arghhh so confusing! someone call bill gates to confirm please?

  • +2

I'll sort it out for you… Windows 8.1 pro student $69 from Microsoft AU store = Windows 10 Pro if upgraded within a year.

Surely you have a friend who is a teacher or uni student… All they need is an edu email address to verify with.

    • Thanks for this - I had a look at the store but I don't think 8.1 is available any more and there aren't student licenses available for Windows 10 :(

    • I can confirm this works, I did this for my i3 NUC….Windows 8.1 Pro Student ($69.99) > Windows 10 Pro

    • Thanks Rep.
Need this for guys at work who are still on XP.

Windows 10 is incredibly easy to pirate and become "genuine". Just go down that path if you're going to break EULA anyway.

  • +1

Can you buy windows 10 retail box in stores?

    • -1

I assume so, but if you truly have your heart set on Win10 then a deal like this is the way too go. Don't be scared off by the negative votes, I suspect these people haven't had any dealings with how Win10 is been distributed.

The online copies I've purchased required the same steps as this deal. Microsoft sends a Serial, you download the Win10 x86 or x64 installer, follow the steps and eventually enter your key. If the key is accepted then it's a genuine copy, if not, get a refund :)
MS Win10 install has had trouble accepting certain keys (temporary issues I think), upgrade keys and educational keys are the 2 main culprits.

If your worried then check this link and read under the heading "Counterfeit software".

It says; "If you have a counterfeit copy of Windows that wasn't published and licensed by Microsoft, activation won't work because Microsoft won't be able to create a match between your PC's hardware profile and your 25-character product key."

      • +2

The point is not if they are counterfeit or not, I am 100% sure they will work, it is the legality of the sale that counts. If they are volume, msdn, dreamspark premium or other such licenses then you might as well just go buy the same for $5 elsewhere… The end result would be the same, a working authenticated license that is not actually legal.

        • +1

Yep, better go to Hardly Normal to get your legit licenses kids.

        • +2

          @Pobman:
But Harvey Norman are the Windows 10 experts. Despite them using Windows 8 screenshots in their ads for Windows 10. hmmm.

        • According to Microsoft, if the serial authenticates on Windows10 then it's a legal copy. However this only applies to keys used on a "new" digital copy, the "upgrade" method most people are using may be different.

MS have been attempting to reassure customers that NEW copies are legit if they pass the key authentication, info on this has been plastered all over their web site, they also have a support contact specifically for issues relating to this.

As MS have said, you can use a dodgy key to upgrade but not to register a new copy. Anyone aware of info contrary to this should post a link as both myself and Microsoft would be extremely interested.

  • +1

If anyone wants to report it to Microsoft and potentially find out if this is the real deal then go here.
