  • There can be used online, right?

  • I wonder if you can buy Dick Smith Gift Cards with Coles Gift Cards…. Then put it with one of their regular coupon codes… Imagine the bulk discount!

    • where can you buy discount coles gift cards?

    • +4

Cant buy gift card with giftcard at coles

      • +1

You can if you buy something else in the same transaction like a chupa chup or mars bar. Did this with liquorland amex deal.

  • Unfortunately nothing available to the public. Through my work staff club, they give 5% off Coles Gift cards. You should check if you have access to something similar at your work or know someone with access!

  • +2

Been waiting for this again. Remember you can convert to Wish gift cards at DS.

    • Thanks, added to title & description

    • you mean we can buy wish gift cards at dse?

    • +1

when you tried last time ?

    • +1

So can I buy DS cards with 10% extra value, swap them at DS for wish cards, then buy 10% discounted flight centre gift cards at WW :)

    • Thanks for this KCT1010. I am new to Wish gift cards at DS. Are they just gift cards you can use at Woolworths and Coles? Can you buy any other gift cards with them?

    • +5

It's really depends on your luck.. as most of the staff will tell you cant purchase gift card with gift card

      • Thanks, sounds like a bit of a risk then especially with a large purchase.

    • +2

Brother works for DSE.. Stopped stocking Wish cards in July.
      Good luck finding any.

      • +3

For anyone looking, I just asked DSE Parramatta and Merrylands and they no longer sell Wish cards.

      • thanks - deal updated :)

    • +1

staff will not let you buy any gift card with dick smith gift cards. as per FAQ https://www.dicksmithgiftcard.com.au/App_Themes/10053/pdf/Gi…

      • +1

This. Denied at both DSE stores I went to quoting those terms.

  • how do u do this?
just ask for the wish cards at the register, and pay with the DSE cards? that simple?

  • +4

Yes. Have been doing this the last few things this offer has come up. From my observations, not all DS stores stock Wish/BigW/Caltex Petrol cards, but 3 in my area does. Obviously, Wish/BigW cards can be converted to JB, GGuys, etc….all for effective 9% discount.

This deal is very ironic, as potentially using discount by Coles to fund Woolies sales revenue.

I suspect, will get ozbargained and shut down this time.

    • Thanks KCT1010. I wonder what prompted the negative votes, I find your comment very helpful!

    • -2

Yes. You are right. DS was selling Wish Cards before its apart from the Woolly group and after that, they will no longer sell the Wish cards. The reason you still see the Wish cards in some DS stores is because they are clearing the stock and there will not be new Wish cards available once the stock is cleared.

So yes, you can do the conversion. If you still see Wish cards in the DS store, you better move asap before they are sold out.

If you are luck to be able to convert your DS card to Wish card, you can also convert the Wish card back to Coles Group card. Simply go Woolworths buy the Myer card and then go Myer buy the Colds Group Card.

A loop is done. However, you are at your own risk doing the conversion loop. You might be stuck at any stage because some clumsy staff refusing purchasing gift card with gift card. :)

      • +1

Some already reported myer pos machine(not staff) would not accept giftcard purchase when you use myer giftcard. Please do it yourself successfully before you tell others.

        • Reference? Thanks.

        • @claud0902:

done it before… not working… guess, you should try it before stated it out… i believe heaps of people has mentioned this in ozbargain every now and then about this

        • @gandhi28152:

          Thanks for confirming.

      • +6

You cannot convert a Myer Gift Card to a Coles/Myer gift card. The Terminal declines it. I have tried many times with no success in Melbourne. Please do not tell people they can do something when they can't. Thank you.

        • +1

Then my info was out of date, which happened in past.

        • @claud0902:

          no worries

      • @Neoika

pretty sure they are not clearance items, Woolworths got rid of DSE in 2012.

it is more an understanding between between Woolworths and DSE to market each other.

        similar to Coles and Myer.

I range 3 WA stores today (30 minues before closing) to confirm if any sold, but non picked up.

        • I am pretty sure the neither DS stores in Perth CBD has got Wish card atm?

      • You cannot convert a Dicksmith Gift Card to a Woolworths gift card By T&C too

        It's just the same logic

        • You can. That part has been tested. But the only issue is if you can find a wish card in a DS store.

        • @claud0902: the real issue is whether staff will do it, because most will say 'can't buy gift card with gift card' same as 'can't pay credit card with another credit card'.

      • +1

I did buy a few wish gift cards at DS in the months after woolies sold DS to a private equity firm. But I have not seen any wish gift cards in a DS store for well over a year now. Looked in several DS stores (including ones I'd bought them in previously) at the time of this Amex deal & couldn't find them anywhere

        https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/161491

I'd assumed DS are not restocking, & just sold through what was left in store after the split off.

On another note, I did use a Dan Murphy gc (from the recent Amex deal) to pay online at DS last week. Nice surprise to get the extra 15% discount.

    • I am pretty sure that Coles does not pay RRP for the gift cards…. otherwise… why stock them?

      • +2

        otherwise… why stock them?

It is all part of a secret plan by WES to maximise DS sales and stick it to Woolies for selling the business at a loss and convince them that they are absolutely hopeless at everything they do (even food now!) and make them realise they need to sell masters ASAP so less competition for Bunnings.

  • +1

Awesome, might buy some and purchase some PSN cards.

    • let us know how you go

      • Very well in fact. Just bought a $100 gift card from coles, checked the online balance on my phone which was $110. Then went to dick smith and bought 1x$50 card and 2x$30 cards.

  • 9% off petrol effectively ;)

  • 10% extra value rather than 10% discount will be a pain for converting cards.

Purchase a $100 DSE gift card at Coles for $100 but get $110 value on it. Then you can purchase a $100 Wish gift at DSE, but you still have $10 value left on it.

What denominations of wish cards can you get at DSE?

  • +1

So I could purchase sufficient value cards to buy a Macbook pro retina, wait for a 10% off sale and then TRS 10% GST refund at the airport?

    Has anybody done this?

    • Yes.

    • Yes i have.

      • Is this anything like you got in terms of discount:

        RRP $1,799.00
        Less 10% Store discount $1,619.10
        Less Card Discount $1,457.19
        Less TRS $100.00
        Final Price $1,357.10

So I should get a total discount of 24.5% of the RRP?

        • Yes if that 10% store discount exists haha.

        • @spaghettiman:

Not from apple store. JB and that crap does it sometimes.

    • Can you please elaborate on the TRS 10% GST refund at airport?

    • +1

I did this combined with a OzB Apple 15% off code in June as well, giving me well over 30% off.
      I got a MBPr 13" (RRP $2499) for under $1800.

  • +3
  • How many gift cards can you use to pay for one transaction online? Any limit at all?

    • +1

      No limit.

      • What happens if your gift card amount is more than what youre buying?

What happens if your gift card amount is less, can you pay the remainder by paypal?

        • You "apply" each gift card once, and it deducts that amount from the "total". So on your last card, if you have remaining credit, then you will still have that credit in that card.

If less, I believe you can pay with credit card/paypal.

        • @spaghettiman:

Thanks, that makes it easier to shop for the cards. I'll go and buy some at Coles… I hope they still have some left. :-)

  • +1

I wonder if I can use this to spend the $100 I need to claim my $100 off for getting the Coles Mastercard. I never usually reach that amount…

Edit: just checked the terms and conditions for that Coles Mastercard offer. It excludes only "Coles Group gift cards and iTunes cards", so should be fine for Dick Smith, unless they joined the Coles group without me noticing…

  • so can coles gift cards at 5% off be used to purchase DSE gift cards at 10% extra value?

    • Where do you buy coles gift cards at 5% discount?

      • +1

        5% paywave perhaps

        • I was gonna use 2% rebate via ING's PayWave.

        • @sween64:
MEbank had 5%. Looks like only available through some coop program now :(
          http://mebank.com.au/lps/the-coop/the-co-op-home/
$25 joinup fee (but it's refunded for some reason) and only 3 months instead of 6 months.
the 5% paywave rebate days are coming to an end :(

        • @cwongtech:

Might return with ING's forthcoming credit card.

  • Is there any way to combine this deal with the 5% off Wish Cards available through Cashrewards?

    • Nope. I can't think of a way where you can use wish cards to end up buying by Coles gift cards.

    • No.

  • -1

Paywave only works under $100. How do you buy one for $100 with paywave?

    • -2

$100 was included last time I tried. If your credit card does not allow that, just buy a smaller giftcard.

      • Buy a $100 Dick Smith card for $90.91 repeat multiple times. Can you choose the value?

        • From the visa site: "For purchases of up to $100, customers with a Visa payWave card don't have to enter a PIN or sign a receipt to authorise a transaction."
"up to" includes the exact amount of $100, which is what I experienced before.

    • +3

self service and put a $1 coin in first then pay the rest on card?

      • +5

No,I pay $99.98 with card and then 2cents cash round to 0,so no pay.

        • Does that work? If it does, wow that's a tightarse.

        • +3

@sween64: Actually,I am not sure about 2cents rounding to 0.But I did pay with card for the big amount first and then pay 5cents cash for the remaining 7cents in order to ditch 5-cent coin in my pocket. This does work with Coles/Woolworths self checkout machine accepting cash.

So you can pay $99.93 with card and 5-cent coin cash.

  • +3

Better be really sure that you can find and buy all the Wish Gift cards in DSE first otherwise you may be stuck with a lot of money in DSE gift cards that you don't need…

    • +1

can always buy house full of eneloop

  • +1

Ing direct debit cards give you 2% cash back not 5% as stated

    • yeah and 0% at $100

  • +1

    plus 5% staff discount :)

    • +1

      Not on giftcards.

  • You sure u can buy wish card at dse? I haven't seen any

  • +1

Will dick smith stock new iPhones on release? and outright? (non-contract, no plan, unlocked). this might be worthwhile to snag a cheap(er…) iPhone.

  • So let me get this straight, you can buy a Dick Smith gift card at Coles with an extra 10% value and then go to Dick Smith and buy a PSN card?

    • Interested to know this as well

  • can anyone tell me how do you get 5% cash back on ingdirect? because mine has been reduce to 2% only since early this year.

    • You are out of luck with your card AFAIK. But new applications (for other people) can probably get 5% off.

  • +1

Can you physically bring a Wish card into a DSE Store and get the staff member to do the transaction correctly?

Get a blank Wish card from any Woolworths store, take it into DSE and get the guy to convert your DSE card to the Wish card.

    Has anyone actually tried this?

    • let us know how u go mate
