My Nexus 4 is running on its last legs. I can't decide if I should jump on this now or wait til October/November for the new Nexus….

    • +1

I can't really say for you, but I'll definitely wait for the new Nexus 5. 5 inches is probably the upper bound I can accept for how large the phone screen is.

Plus I'm thinking they can't price Nexus 5 to be too expensive, considering it's predecessor is arguably having the best performance-price ratio in history…

    • +1

Like Songford said, can't decide for you, but I doubt the new Nexus 5 will be any cheaper than this, with our falling AUD.

Personally I don't want to commit to a new phone without at least waiting for the new Nexuses announcements.

  • +3

    … 2% cashback…

OP, Cashrewards has updated the rate to 2.5%

    • Is that permanent? Can a mod update the cashrewards thing then?

    • +1

Hi, I new to CashRewards. Can you please explain how you use the 2 discount codes? Ie CVIPTREAT and CTREAT20 for the 20% and 2.5% off.
      Thanks

      • +6

        hi wblim.

Just use cash rewards' site to enter ebay and the 2.5% will be automatically put into your cashrewards account

Whilst you're in checkout in this cashrewards tab, use the cvip code at checkout as per normal for the 20% off

  • How about a link / links to the actual product/s?

    Or is this OzBargain Inception?

  • Looking like the best option at the moment (the new pics of the Huawei Nexus phone are horrible) - just needs to be that little bit cheaper to get under $500.

  • +1

Am I allowed to post similar deals here? I see one on another site for $555 with arguably faster shipping.. though the shipping is $37

    • +3

I may be mistaken but usually you post the cheapest/best when submitting new deals. 555+37 = $592 is considerably higher than $537.42. Of course for $55 extra some may prefer to get it faster. Which site is it?

From my research, you can buy this phone (shipped) for around $568 from both eglobal (this includes extra plastic back plate) and DWI and for $584 from T-dimension (this includes 16GB free microSD).

      • +1

@sridhar just received by black leather model from eglobal and it doesn't have the extra plastic back plate fwiw
Friend got one straight from Optus the other day thought and it did.

  • +2

Anyone know the specific model number or how suitable this is for the Optus/Amaysim 4g network?

    • +4

      It is H815.

I asked the same question in Whirlpool a couple of days ago.

If I am on Optus, is H815 ok?

      and the reply was

You'll be missing Band 40 2300Mhz, however if you're anywhere apart from Canberra (which is the main 4G band) you will be okay, because Band 40 is only used as in-fill.

    • +2

Also with optus. I am led to believe we needs the band 28/700 frequency fpr 4g in more places.

    • +2

The H815 works fine on Amaysim, been using mine for the past few weeks 4G+ signal everywhere. The missing band is only really useful for Optus 4G in Canberra as far as I'm aware.

The more important bands the H815 already has, being B28 (700Mhz) which is in use by both Optus and Telstra 4G.

  • Does anyone know where Kogan gets it's Lg G4 from? I'm specifically looking for a H815 european model (the only one with an unlockable bootloader)

    • i can't advise on where Kogan get their model from, but you can run xposed mod without unlocking the bootloader.
also do you know if the H815T and H815k are any different???

  • +1

bought this on friday for 560 odd from eglobal.. darn

Good news is it arrived this morning which is the most ridiculous fast shipping i have ever seen, considering it came from Hong Kong.

    • +2

Did you order a Metallic Grey or a leather one? If leather, which colour? If it's black leather check to see if it is H815T. H815T has more network support (bands coverage) than H815.

  • Hmm this or G Flex 2? So hard to decide..

    • If you can afford it, this by a mile…

    • I bought the G Flex 2 anyway as I can't justify the 60% price difference from Gflex2 to G4. It just gives more bang of the buck I reckon. I was gonna wait for the new Nexus 5 but given the crappy AUD atm it won't be as cheap. Gonna sell my aging M7 and it should pretty much cover the cost.

  • Good deal for an awesome phone!

  • +1

This phone is awesome. i got this phone from Telstra the day of release. Good price from Kogan if it is the same model as mine (mine says h815K) if i didn't give my old G3, and G2'S as hand me downs to the rest of the family. i would jump on this deal

  • Can i claim GST under TRS scheme of this phone?
i am travelling overseas soon so that may save some more $$$….
Has anyone claimed GST on Kogan receipt in past??

    • +1

Kogan sells grey imports, no GST is charge, so no TRS.

    • All products from Kogan are imported which mean no tax.

  • +1

How does the LG G4 compare with Galaxy S6?

Is the G4 a truly global phone and cover most of the LTE bands globally like the iPhone 6?

I travel to North America, Europe & Asia often. I think Europe & Asia should be fine but North America might be an issue.

  • +5

With idiotic Samsung following Apple's footsteps by ditching Expandable Storage and Removable Batteries in its latest releases, this G4 is certainly worth a look.

    • I agree with you 100%

  • I am using Galaxy Note 2 and it becomes laggy now. I'm not sure if I should upgrade to Note 5 or G4. Any input?
I don't use the stylus at all but for me what's important is display, camera and power. I often open 10+ tabs when browsing (opening OzB deals lol) and I like to open multiple apps. The Note 2 starting to annoys the hell out of me now. Even scrolling up and down can be a pain.
Memory card slot and battery are not important - good to have feature for me.

    • +3

Go for LG G4, if you don't use stylus. I'm using G4 at the moment and often open 20-28 tabs when browsing and open multiple apps…. Never had any issue.

G4 has the best smartphone camera and has IR Blaster (Note 5 lacks this) and bigger removable battery and SD card support.

It is also a lot cheaper than Note 5.

    • +4

OR>> You can save money and install cyanogenmod on it. Every Samsung device I buy, I install Cyanogenmod first. Makes it so new new and snappy ..

    • I went from the S3 which was slowing down a lot, most noticeable when using the camera.

The G4 is an excellent upgrade!

    • Thanks to everyone who replied - your opinions helped me making the decision. After asking around (also asked my colleague who is using G3 and very happy with it), I decided to buy the red leather one :D
It is time to upgrade - been using Note 2 since it first came out. Love this deal ;)

      • My Note 2 flies on CM12.1. Just FYI…

    • Note 5 is much larger than a G4.

The difference is bigger than it looks on paper because Samsung use physical buttons and the LG has on screen buttons which take up screen real estate.
Note 5 also has much better battery life, with LG I always carry 2 batteries cause I'm lucky to get 13 hours out of it.

Also note has AMOLED screen, so if your using a case with a window just to check the time or read SMS the battery will last much longer than the LG.

But the LG is much cheaper and has replaceable batteries.

  • Where can I get LG G2 for the best price?

is it a good deal for G2 model:
    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/New-LG-G2-4G-LTE-Quad-core-Androi…

G4 is a bit too much for me, looking for G2 good price deal, I'm with Telstra/Aldi.

    • Much better off going for a LG G Flex 2 than a G2, which is comparatively ancient.

    • That's missing quite a few network bands, I would go for the D802 model G2 instead.

  • Best flagship phone you can get for the asking price atm.

  • Anyone know what comes with the g4 from Kogan? I know with some retailers you get a spare plastic back cover.

  • Does it have quick charge ?

    • +1

It supports Quick Charge 2.0, but it doesn't come with a charger that supports it (you need to buy one, unless Kogan is supplying you with one, which I highly highly doubt).

      https://www.qualcomm.com/products/snapdragon/quick-charge

      • thanks bud. do u think its worth a swap from note 4 ?

        • +2

My answer will be no, but I am fairly biased when it comes to LG products. I had fair bit of hiccups with LG products (both mine and my gf's) that isn't LG G4. Only thing that might relate to G4 are how I hate the back buttons and that stupid Zerogap technology (which I don't think was used in G4).

That said, even if I look over the brand name and such, I don't think the improvements on SoC warrants the price. Camera probably is better (never been a camera person, so this is something that I have no clue in), but that's about it as far as I see. Note 4 is not old enough for it to be considered outdated at the very very least and $500 in my opinion is a lot of cash. You probably can flash your note 4 with custom ROM and see improvements in performance without spending that much money (since Samsung software is god awful).

That said, the choice is up to you.

        • +2

          @Oversimplified:
we have a LG G2 and G2 pro for 2 years now after upgrade from Samsung. very good phones, maybe not as snap as Samsung due to software, but good enough otherwise. we paid <$750 for both from T-Dimension, I'd pay a lot more for a S5 + Note 4 anywhere. really worth it in my opinion. I'd go LG again, this is very tempting.

        • +2

@Jamesx: I've heard good things about LG G Pro 2.

I am fine with the spec of the phone that my gf has (G2). It's good, definitely for the price I've paid for it.

My hiccups with LG phones were both hardware and software related. The keyboard and knock on code stopped working, my gf did a factory reset which didn't solve the problem at all. I had to flash the phone with stock ROM to fix the problem (since it happened twice already, I've given up and flashed it with CM). In terms of the hardware, the phone is way too fragile and can be rendered useless too easily because of the zerogap technology. We've replaced the LCD once already at less than one month mark.

It's from my experience (well from my gf's, technically), I know that these can be an abnormaly. That said, she doesn't play around with the phone like I do and she had more problems than I had with my old phone and the current phone. I am likely to avoid buying a LG phone because of those experiences; at least I will look at LG phones with biases from those experiences.

        • @Oversimplified:

thanks mate. might wait for a few months then.

        • @AeyJey:

I, for one, am switching to this from a Note 4 in which I find the lag to be unacceptable.

        • @sridhar: Have you tried using custom ROM like CM? TouchWiz is laggy as hell with all the bloats they put in it. I am simply suggesting this because it's cheaper to try CM than getting a new phone. I use a debloated TW based ROM (on another Galaxy device because I use one of the functions on TW) and even then, it's more resource hogging then CM ROM.

        • +1

          @Oversimplified:

No. At this juncture of my life I do not want to deal with rooting and flashing. I want a phone that just works like it's supposed to. Also I read that there could be camera issues in CM based ROMs.

        • @sridhar: Then yeah, LG phone probably would be better for you. I think LG did better optimisation with Lollipop (and their software support is slightly better). If it weren't for the keyboard disappearing constantly (which I still have no idea what have caused it), I wouldn't have flashed CM ROM on my gf's phone (I was very hesistant on it, since if something happens, I am sure she cannot fix it by herself and the stock ROM was not that bad). CM ROM makes the LG phone run better as well from what I've seen with G2, but it's not as drastic as it was with TW. Samsung software team should get fired for how they ruin the phone imo.

SoC wise, I don't see 808 and 805 to be that different, at least to warrant the price difference.

  • what was the previous low? and no white? does this work on optus 4g?

    cheers

    • Yes the H815 works fine on Optus.

      • I know it works. I'm specifically asking about 4g and band 700 I think. Cheers

        • +1

          Yes.. B28 700mhz works

  • I would spent few extra $$$ and buy it from somewhere else, not interested in paying for a new phone and receiving used 2nd hand phone from Kogan

    • you had bad experiences, but not their general practice I'd say. I never got any used items from Kogan, I'd sort that out if it happens though.

  • +1

I'm tempted on the G4 as the camera is so good - with the new Nexus potentially around the corner though and a slew of USB-C devices this is a tough decision.. the price is so tempting though..

    • If the camera is important skip the Nexus, google camera is average as best a provides limited features.

      • This is true, good point. The Moto X Style was a contender but the jacked up pricing ($800+ outright) rules that out.

  • im with amaysim n i think i will get this. after 2 years with the s3 i think i deserve an upgrade. my s3 is already rooted with CyanogenMod. what is everyone thinking of getting? The Leather Black, Leather Brown or Metallic Grey?

    • +1

Amongst leather ones black has the most durability. Personally I like the brown colour and will go for it with this case+screen protector combo: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/171816120860?var=470752981817.

For maximum case compatibility though, Metallic Grey is recommended.

    • I went with the brown leather, the black has that fake unnatural look. It's a huge upgrade from the S3.. had my i9305 for the past 3 years..

  • anyone having trouble with the cash rewards 2.5% code? mine keeps rejecting and when i proceed to pay it still only has the 20% off price

    • 20% remains the same. Just ensure that you land on ebay site from cashrewards and proceed with the purchase.

After your payment is done and post their verification, cashback will reflect in your account at cashrewards site.

      • i have ordered but im still having trouble with the cash rewards banking details

  • +2

    Ordered!

    • Awesome matey!

  • +2

FYI. Anyone buying the dual sim models, it appears by the specs it does not support 700mhz on 4G (unlike the single sim model)

    • Yep that's right.. missing a few bands.

  • can someone please confirm if this phone is rootable? I like to change to custom kernels for better performance.

  • How's Kogans shipping time? The ETA of 10-15 September seems long

    • My last purchase from them (iPhone) was on 21st July. Even though the email then said,

Estimated delivery between Thursday, Aug. 6 and Tuesday, Aug. 11

I received it on 27th July itself.

      • Thanks sridhar! Might give them a go then… :S

  • Sorry but I'm new to Android phones/models - is this the same phone retailing at $926 over at JB?

  • How does this compare to 1Plus1?

I notice that this phone does not have a physical 'home' button. Does any one find it annoying to press on/off button to wake the phone? I have a Galaxy S3 and I am used to pressing 'Home' button to wake the phone up.

  • +1

Posted it before and will post again. HIGHLY recommend this phone.

Though the deal is great, I'd go for Aussie blue tick stock…should have re-jigged firmware to help better with reception and mobile network performance in AUS. I've noticed my H818P (dual sim), isn't that great for reception and sadly isn't equipped with band 28 4GX on Tesltra (4G works fine, but could be better, lets say)…though I'm sincerely hoping band unlocking progresses further with tests over on XDA, as the phone itself has a hackable qualcomm chipset and could make it the ultimate device that could be universally used in almost all countries!

    • Would this one be 4GX on Telstra?

  • whats the best case available for this? I just purchased the metallic silver. Saw the black leather at JBhifi looks fake. Brown was better but was too thin, needs to be thicker.

  • Hi all. Any idea if Kogan can deliver to Australia Post parcel lockers?

  • Hi. Any ideas if its possible to track delivery status?

    • You need to wait for an email from them stating that your order has been processed. After that, you will get another email with the tracking info.

      • I got this email an hour ago:

The following item(s) from your order have now been processed and will be shipped to you shortly.

        • I got the message after leaving a message with them. Thanks.

  • Hey, I told my mum about this deal and she's somewhat interested. She was considering getting a used iPhone 5s (coming from iPhone 4s) but they can range from $350-550 depending on the gig space.
So I figured might as well get a new phone with warranty and not worry about buying a separate camera.
Will there be night and day difference with the camera quality to the 5s?
Any other reasons I can use to convince here to this phone? I'm currently using a Asus zenfone 2 and bit sad about the camera quality (but was half the price)

  • I bought a LG G4 it had massive wifi problems, have to get rid of it. should I buy another? is anyone else having large wifi problems and how did you get rid of it?
