  • The JPY has tanked 4-6JPY since last week.

I'd wait till markets recover in a few months, unless someone is desperate to exchange money now

    • Hi Turd,

You can have a look at our rate chart here https://www.travelex.com.au/rates/currency-converter.

Interesting fact: Exchanging 1000AUD to JPY today vs 6 months ago you are $104 worse off and vs 12 months ago $146 worse off.

I would still love a Japan holiday!

  • +1

Still more expensive than Citibank Visa Debit. Better exchange rate and NO fees.

    • Hi Bigspike,

Good call out, Citibank look very competitive.

You have to keep in-mind that with our currency you have the option to pick up physical cash.

If it was Happy Hour right now this is the result:

US Dollar - Citi is just better
Japanese Yen - Travelex is better
Fijian Dollar - Only Travelex offers this currency
Thai Bhat - Travelex is better

Fingers crossed my quick calculations are correct!

      • I have walked up to the ATM at NADI airport and taken currency out….. ow was I dreaming?

Citibank - Mastercard rate with no commission or fees equals the best deal available - ever-

        • what product is this MasterCard with citibank ? I cant see any with no fees. Best I can see is debt card with 2.5% fee but no ATM fee (assuming overseas atm doesn't charge you).

I want to be able to take cash from ATMs in the USA with lowset cost.

          THanks

          Heaps of advice and tips.

        • @bigspike: Thanks, will use Citibank card 😁 FYI 28 Degrees charges for cash now. I used to use them but now is $4 and/or cash advance fee at a % of transaction 😞

        • @vanleeuwen:
28 Degrees does charge for cash, but not purchases. If you want a hotel or rental car, 28 degrees is still the best option to avoid the problems with security deposit holds on your money.

  • This has to be an ozbargain record for the smallest discount every :D

  • The little shops run by Indians (because they always advertise INR transfers etc on their windows)always give you a better rate than these big companies. I've been using the Raffles Forex down Elizabeth St in Melb CBD for the past couple of years and they always give pretty damn good rates.

  • $1 AUD = 80.5 JPY?? it was 90 yen just a few months ago!

    • I was there last January to ski and it was 1:1 cent for Yen - awesome. This christmas is going to be sad in caparison.

  • 1979 was my first and only time to beautiful Japan. The exchange rate then? JPY250 to AUD1. True Story
