    Interesting deals, thanks.
Maybe JD.com should be added the Ozbargain List of Cheap Chinese Online Buying sites ?

    • +1

while this appears to be good deals and the site overall, i think we should wait for some user feedbacks on their service before we add to our list.

      • You can check it out from their last K3 Note deal.

      • OK, sounds fair enough.
The only reason I asked is because I had never heard of JD.com before and went to the wiki to see if it was that type of site.

        • +2

Most people outside of China wouldn't really have heard it, they only semi recently made their english website. Its a massive E commerce company in China though and it's been around for awhile.

115 billion RMB in sales in 2014.

          JD is mostly B2C

      • The OzBargain list is not a select group. It's a big indiscriminate list. There's a big disclaimer about it at the top of the page.

    • I agree – added.

  • +3

Still waiting on my K3 Note from the deal at the start of last month. Painful to see the price continue to drop while waiting :(

    • +2

price has dropped by US$1 and the exchange rate is arbitrary so not a huge issue $ wise

      • I bought the white one for USD$154.99 using the $10 new customer coupon (Yellow was sold out at the time and white was more expensive). Now it's USD$134.99 with coupon, so it's a price difference of USD$20. Same seller as well. :(

        • meh, prices on tech are always going to drop. this phone will be less than than US$100 in 6 months as new tech comes out.

        • @altomic: @altomic:

You think aaron didn't already know this? He simply pointed out his pain from a dropping price. You pointed out a minor $1 change, then had it explained to you how it was actually US$20. Instead of simply conceding the point, you decide to hand out this patronising twaddle.

  • current paypal exchange rate for $135 USD is $199 AUD

How did you come up with $189?

    • +1

      xe

      • -2

check again, most people will pay with pay pal like I did, just to be safe with our Chinese merchant

        not $189 for sure

        • +6

Most people will pay with PayPal but most Ozbargainers will then add their 28 Degrees/Bankwest Zero Platinum/Citibank/Coles Rewards MC to PayPal and pay with that surely?

        • +6

you can still pay with paypal but have a better exchange rate if you just tell paypal to charge you in the original currency of the transaction. Your bank will do the exchange rate for you, for example with the 28 degrees card people talk or for me the citibank transaction account have great exchange rates.
          http://usa.visa.com/personal/card-benefits/travel/exchange-r…
          0% Bank Fee
You'll find the PayPal exchange rate is always pretty bad in comparison.

        • @illumination: Could you clarify please? If you pay with PayPal, does it matter which card is added? I thought it only works if you pay by your 28 Degrees/Bankwest Zero Platinum/Citibank/Coles Rewards MC, but not through Paypal…

        • +5

@Ametric: http://lifehacker.com/5957808/avoid-paypals-high-internation… bit of an old link but the process is still pretty much exactly the same. As I shared below you still get paypal protection even with this option on.

        • @Kikkoman56: Thanks for the link!

        • @Kikkoman56: How can you tell paypal to charge you in the original currency of the transaction?

Edit: just saw the link about conversion options…thanks

        • @illumination: Regarding the citibank transaction account, should I be adding the bank account to paypal or using/adding the debit card through paypal. My confusion is because there is no fee for ATM and in-store transactions overseas (which implies there is a fee for online shopping), so I imagine there would be a fee using the card for this. So is it the bank account that has no international transaction fee if I get paypal to charge to it in the foreign currency?

        • @CheapBrah: From my experiences, paying directly through the linked bank account takes longer to appear on the bank balance. Using either option though doesn't incur any extra fees. I'd probably guess though that paying direct through the bank rather than the visa debit card that PayPal might make a slightly higher profit.

  • -3

regardless, it is not $189 AUD, the dollar is almost sub $0.70

from past experience with this merchant I will say that paypal is the safest way to pay

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/199562

never shipped, A con at its best

    • +1

It's $192 if you have a card as we have listed above and you can still pay with them via paypal.
Current visa exchange rate is 1 United States Dollar = 1.426594 Australian Dollar

      • -3

        good luck

        • +3

I'm not buying because I've just bought a new phone but it's a good price. I have dealt with this company though domestically(In China) and my tablet arrived next day. I wouldn't trust or mistrust them anymore than any other Chinese electronics store.

Also if you doubt that you get any PayPal with the method I've described, I've gotten a paypal claim refund successfully from dx.com twice before.

        • +1

You don't seem to believe us when we say you can use a different credit card, such as 28 Degrees, and be charged in the original billing currency (USD in the case) to avoid PayPal's crappy exchange rate…

        • -1

          @illumination: I'm a believer …

Regardless , good luck to you paying sub $195

        • @vegimate: then I saw your face.

        • @KaptnKaos: I'm out of my mind.

    • JD is just a market place, the seller from your link is different to the seller of the K3 Note here. As mentioned above though, I did buy from this same seller and I still haven't received my phone. My cousin ordered around the same time as me and got his in 3 weeks. This prompted me to follow up with them and found out they forgot to send mine out!

    • JD is the Amazon in China just in case you don't know. The TCL incident was caused by a massive manufacture recall and JD handled it pretty well offering either a similar alternative or a full refund. My wife bought a lot of stuff from JD for her parents who are in China and hasn't got a problem so far. Items are shipped as she paid and all warranties are intact.

I would consider them one of the best oversea sellers like Kogan and T-Dimension. Well but all said if you are still expecting more then Gerry Harvey is always happy to take your $$$.

This or Xiaomi Redmi Note 2? (I am aware of the price difference)

    • +1

redmi note 2 has better hardware, but real world performance will be similar.

Personal choice based off their skin / design.

      • +1

        agreed.

i imagine the xiaomi being more popular and selling better though, and with the larger user base will probably get more support in terms of custom roms and similar cool stuff.

        • xiaomi is coming out with a Mi4C for the chinese market, snapdragon 808 for the same price as MI4I apparently.

    • I chose the Redmi Note 2, it is the best phone I have ever owned, much more responsive than an LG G2.

  • +1

Looks like they're clearing old stock on the Hi8. Chuwi released a new revision with Windows 10 and Android 5.0.

  • Thanks i'll tell Darcy.

  • Oh wow, was very tempted to get this (Chuwi) but the estimated delivery time is 60 days???

  • A word of warning about Chuwi tablets, they are not very durable. I have a Chuwi VI8, I had it on the bed and I was getting out of bed and put my hand on it and accidentally applied some pressure, I heard a crack. The external glass screen is fine, but the touch screen under the external screen is cracked and completely unuseable now, the tablet is unuseable.

In other ways it was a very good tablet for the price, I'd still recommend Chuwi, just bare in mind the durability of the screen is drastically less than a brand name tablet in my experience.

    • thats because its not a one glass solution, theres visible gap between the glass screen and touch screen, old school tech, easy for repairing though.

    • +1

I heard its plastic not real glass they using for chuwi. Hence why its cheap.

    • +3

To me that does not reflect there being not very durable, very few tablets would survive what you described.

      • I didn't apply great pressure to it, I can apply a lot more pressure to my Nexus 7 2012 with no damage. If a user is conscious of this and more careful than I, it shouldn't be much of a problem.

      • My Asus memo pad was rendered useless like this too. Except in my case I was pissed at losing an online game and took it out on my tablet trying to bend it with excessive force. The screen didn't crack or anything but now the memo pad touch screen is totally unresponsive to my fingers. Basically useless now

        • +1

Mate its easy to fix. YouTube the problem. Basically your LCD ribbons have come off the motherboard. Easy to fix.

        • @spy: cheers mate. Will look into that. Thx for the advice

        • @Jared17: I had ditto problem after my kid chucked the tab. Googled it and voila problem solved.

        • +1

@spy: a friend gave me their old ipad Gen1 as half the screen was not responding. removed the screen and voila -ribbon cable had half slipped out. shoved it back in and added some tape for good measure. Bam - fully functional Ipad. told my friend of the fix and they said keep it as they had bought a new one.

        • @altomic: its a lucrative trade to enter, buying "dead" electronic devices, if you're savvy enough.

        • @spy: don't get me started on mac G3 laptops that needed GPU reballing. made a killing on those 8 or so years ago…

        • @spy:
Cheers. Saved me money from buying a new one. I'm Waiting for the battery to die off and it's taking a while since I can't use the tablet lol.

Just wondering, what did u use to pry open the tablet? YouTube guy used a plastic thing which I don't have. Someone else mentioned a knife but it seems dangerous.

        • @Jared17: I used nails. My wife got long ones. No danger other than cracking the case.

        • @Jared17: open the case anyway. First thing disconnect the battery as on the YouTube video.

        • @spy: ah I see. Thanks I'll wait for my nails to grow out lol

    • accidentally applied some pressure, I heard a crack. The external glass screen is fine, but the touch screen under the external screen is cracked and completely unuseable now, the tablet is unuseable.

Are you absolutely sure the screen is unusably cracked, and not just stuck like this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6kFUhyUyz6k ?

(Not disputing or suggesting you don't know a cracked screen when you see one, just asking.)

  • title should probably be changed to k3 note, because k3 is actually another model!

there seems to be a black model popping up now, in case you don't like white or yellow.

  • +1

Should I get Amazon Fire or Lenovo K3 Note as both of them are ~$130 USD , which one you guys prefer??

    • +1

      K3 note FTW

  • Similar question to the above, If you could get a s5 for 300 odd brand new or the k3 note which would you get? I think answer is obvious but what worries me is s5 outdated yet? Doesn't help that I'm so indecisive.

    • +2

Where can you get an S5 for $300 odd brand new?

      • Whoops so sorry guys, should have explained myself, mate change his plan to an Optus plan and got the phone, he's been trying to flog it for 500 bux but he's willing to give it to me for 350 if I wanted it. He's not poor or anything but he's a pretty big tightarse. Sigh, but there's something about the s5 that doesn't jump at me, I'm not really in love with it.

    • $300 S5? Second hand?

    • Pretty big if. Unless of course you're talking about the $0 for $40 per month with Optus

  • Probably not the best time to buy from overseas as Aussie dollar is not just in the toilet, it's pretty much flushed down the toilet today :(

  • +1

for CHUWI Hi8, if you don't like the 60 days delivery, you can get it from Gearbest for $126.43 + 8% Cashrewards, which is $116.3

    • Nice find, it's cheaper (with cashrewards) and has windows 10 also by the looks of it.

    • Showing as AUD$98.52 for me right now. My coupons are not working though (gives me a higher price). For under $100 AUD with the current exchange rate, is best price ever. It says 20 left.

      • How are you getting that price?

        • +1

I didn't do anything other than click the link from fm365net. It showed as about USD$69 = AUD$98.52 and I ordered one. It seems to have reverted back to the fairly standard "$92.89" USD price now sometimes and sometimes the low price.

It seems to come and go. The stock level of 20 didn't change after I purchased

          https://www.dropbox.com/s/e3g5g9tmofwfmam/Screenshot%202015-…

So I would't be surprised if the order was cancelled and/or it's some kind of technical error.

  • very good value for the hi8. got one, and is very smooth running. battery life isn't great on android (up to 3h constant use), but is pretty decent on windows (up to 5h constant use). Screen feels pretty dodgy to use because of the plastic, but resolution is pretty good. for a cheap tablet that is fast, it's a great deal

    • Will there be any problem upgrade to windows 10?

  • I ordered a Chuwi Hi-8 with Win 10 and have just received a dispatch note from JD saying it should arrive in 4-5 days if by Express or 5-12 days if by air. I was billed $AU121.45 by 28 Degrees. It seems more efficient than expected.

  • +1

I ordered the Hi8 last week when this deal was first posted and it just arrived this morning. Can't believe how quick it arrived.

So far seems really good for the money. Screen is really good. Nothing like the cheap tablets you would usually get for the money.

    • did you pay extra for EMS/DHL/Express postage?

  • +2

There was no options for shipping, it was just the standard free shipping.

Came with Windows 10 pre-installed as well

    • the item's title is "CHUWI HI8 Dual OS 8" IPS 1920*1200 Windows 10+Android 4.4 Tablet PC 2GB RAM 32GB ROM Z3736F Quad Core - White".

      Windows 10.

      • +1

Yes I was aware, but these originally came with win 8.1 and could be upgraded. Just clarifying that it wasn't old stock on hand.

  • To be clear, the postage used should be Postnl ie default dropdown (Russia)?
apply promo JD999 you’ll get ~ 0.68(A$118) in PayPal. ;Au power plug all ok?
Unless buyers earlier got bumped up to DHL free of charge for the Chuwi.

    • Still no go JD999 - sorry, the coupon code you entered is invalid. Please try again or use other codes.
This with country = AU and DHL this time (USD114.19)
I guess tablet special has ended.

  • Got Mine. Ordered on the 7th September. Delivered by TNT.

but there is no longer free shipping option now.

  • Guys, how do you boot into Windows from Android?

Is there some key combination to use? I tried to google it. cant find any help so far.

    Thanks.

    • +1

Windows to android ..should be a android icon (Andy) shortcut in the menu bar
Android to windows ..OS switch button in the pull down menu

      • +2

Also, after you press the power on button you can hold the 'volume down' button and the select between windows and android logos with the volume up/down buttons then select the blinking logo by pressing the power button.

  • Just received my Chuwi hi 8, I got to say for that price, the screen is unbelievably nice, very high resolution and the colour is vivid, probably not as good as the retina screen on my macbook pro but the difference is minimal.

It does have its cons. Most noticeable the windows system is obviously designed for mouse and keyboard, so the desktop mode requires some very accurate tapping. And the touch screen lost its responsiveness while charging, that is, the touch screen won't response to my tapping, and instead tapping randomly.

    • Try a better/other USB power supply. If using a cheap and noisy power supply, capacitive touch screens are often subject to interference and cause that kind of operation. Even iPhones, Samsung Galaxies et al have this happen. If you have a good brand name USB charger like an Apple one, give it a go.

I've not received mine yet (from other suppliers), so not sure if the included supply has this issue. Does it even include one?
