  • If you buy buy gift cards , paid by credit card , do you have to pay for cash advance ? ( paying interest on the cash advance ? )

Call me greedy but if I'm buying an apple computer I want more than 18.2% OF it :-P

    • Greedy - no never if you are an OZBargainer!

    • Buy a flight ticket (at ozbargain prices) and go out of the country carrying your apple computer , you can claim back the GST (TRS), 10% more discount on your apple computer….. win win situation….

    • Yes… You can get one really cheap if it fell off the back of a truck :P

  • I'm not sure if I've missed anything here but it seems to me that the prices on the Dick Smith page, which is implied to be the 10% discounted price, are almost all the same as the ones at RRP at JB HiFi?

I didn't see any application of a discount code mentioned so I'm assuming the prices have already been reduced however..

The discount seems to be pretty selective but again this is assuming I've read this all correctly.

  • Anybody know when one buys the giftcard, it can be used immediately? The DSE I am thinking of is about 30m from Coles.

    • +1

Yes. They are activated pretty much straight away.

    • +3

Yes, I bought 14 gift cards at Coles today, and then bought a Macbook 10 minutes later.

  • +3

I bought iMac 5k 3.5GHz from officeworks(5% price beat)I don't want to take risk of "no stock" after purchasing gift card ,especially iMac only available online

  • Sweet deal, thanks OP. Unfortunately doesn't look like DSE stocks the 15in pro?

    • Yes they do but you have to go in store

      • Oh good thanks

  • Anyone know if you can get the discounted gift cards in qld?

    • I asked, and they mentioned that it finished a week ago. And unable to see on their end whether there is the 10% extra credit … so didn't buy it.

    • Nope Coles confirmed it wasn't extended in Qld

  • Just tried a NSW coles and they said that the 10% extra value finished a week ago?

    Is she just mistaken?

Note: that page says "Victoria Only". However, I showed my NSW store that ad on my phone and they honored it. (I bought 14 cards).

        • +2

how did they honour it exactly? I'm surprised they could add extra value to the gift cards at their discretion

        • @rsmallri:

I want to know too. Thought the gift cards were a set amount and can't be altered. and the system just activates it automatically once you pay.
The only way is they charge you less for the card.

gets loaded on the card uatomaitcally - juist have faith

  • How much is the macbook air 13 inch? the site says 1,259… is that 12.2% additional discount? has the 10% already been discounted?

    • Check and compare with apples online pricing. Some of the dse online pricing seem to not have 10% off (even though they should all be 10% off)

  • I did this yesterday. I bought $2000 of Dick Smith gift cards and bought a 13" 512GB Macbook Pro Retina.

I don't think gift cards are really designed for big purchases. The total time to redeem a single gift card is bearable, but the Dick Smith staff were very impatient when they saw that I had nearly 30 gift cards ($50 and $100 denominations). The PIN has to be revealed, the glue that attaches the card to the cardboard is quite sticky, and it takes ages for the system to actually validate all the redeemed cards. It felt like I was buying a meal from McDonalds using 5 cent pieces!

Overall I'd do it again, however if I had 24 hours notice I would have loaded up my paywave card to enjoy a further 5% discount :) Good deal OP

    • How did you know the 10% extra value would work? Was it advertised in Coles or did you just take a punt?

      • I asked a Coles staff member, and she called a manager. She said the offer was available until the 6/9/2015

        • Will this work in NSW?

        • @dw121212:

Yeh I bought my vouchers in NSW — although it was in the border town of Albury (on Victoria/NSW border).

        • fair enough, just did it in WA and it worked. It must be nationwide

  • Hey guys, I've been using my laptop for a while and am planning to upgrade soon. ive had my eyes on the MacBook Air 13 inch to use at uni, but am not sure if I should jump the gun now or wait a little later. Just scared Apple will announce a new MacBook Air on the 9th of this month, or like do a complete remake at the beginning of next year. Needs some advice, thanks!
