  • Hey Tonster - I might use this tonight - sorry can you just give me more info? So I should create an account from the web, and not the app?

    • either, but only (login via) the web will give full details of the voucher

What if your Uber driver gets arrested?

    • +4

Related to a cabbie are we?

    • Arrested for what? Not a police matter (no breach of your state criminal code)

      • You know that Australia is larger then NSW right?

The AFP officer let the driver go as he said he was not committing a federal offence.

          :)

        • +1

          @tonester:
Which is true. Uber breaks no federal laws, thus AFP can't do anything.

However state laws are different and their are question marks on the legal status in most states. QLD for example people have in the past and continue to receive fines if they are picked up by state police

yes - my comment was somewhat tongue-in-cheek hence the :)

You mean kidnapped and have their phone stolen? We are supposed to believe that taxis are worth paying extra for because they have daily police checks? The police checks are obviously not worth the cabcharge vouchers they are paid for with if they don't stop people like that and like this.

wow tempted to become a uberx driver and stage a fake arrest with this douchebag just to kick his ass

$#it son, I thought what was unaustralian was DOBBING PEOPLE IN.

  • I've signed up and can see the $40 credit for 1st ride in Oz…if though I'm going overseas and use Uber there, will my $40 credit still be available when I get back? I would assume so but maybe someone knows for sure?

    • it's a voucher not credit and if it's for the 1st ride in Oz then it should still be available if your 1st ever ride is overseas

what are the full details such as expiry/validity?

btw if you're using a different mobile number overseas, then it's better to open a new account with signup credit/voucher for wherever you'll be :)

    • Where do you see the credit?
EDIT: It's a voucher, not a credit - so I need to book an uber and pray the voucher still works at the time of booking or…?

      • should work but if it doesn't then just contact them - they're pretty good at sorting things out such as refunds :)

Thankfully the readers of this website are all intelligent and informed civilized people.

The only people who flame Uber are cabbies and people who have never ubered before. Im yet to find a single user who has used the service once and decided to ever catch a cab again. Imagine a cab ride where the car was much nicer the driver a LOT more friendly and 30% cheaper? You also get complimentary water and lollies/mints.

This is why its tearing apart the taxi industry. They cannot compete. I feel sorry for the license owners who have lost their life savings as a taxi license has dropped from $300,000 to basically nothing but thats life i guess. Evolution of an industry that was a horrible experience. So for what its worth, if you havent tried it DO you'll never catch a taxi again. Also if you ever lose your phone or wallet in one they are great at handing it back. As every single trip is tracked.

  • Thanks!

  • Just registered with the promo code (didn't see your referral link :(

$40 off first ever ride only, Valid only in Australia, expires 31 Dec 2015

Also noticed that the default Gratuity is set to 20%… Do Ozbargainers generally pay this? Or am I just being tight?

    • Excellent question.. ?

    • Its irrelevant for uberX and uberBLACK which are the most commonly used in Aus. But I changed mine to zero% I'd prefer cash in hand when tipping.

"Your preferred gratuity will be applied to any future TAXI trips that you request through Uber….. (not Black, SUV, or uberX) and be paid to your driver." uber.com

    • Do u pay tips to drivers ?? We are already paying a fare for their service .

    • Just registered with the promo code (didn't see your referral link :(

no worries, that's good - referral links can't be stacked with promo codes :)

no, only applies to ubertaxi - change to 0% :)

  • Does anyone know how to use a referral link AND a cashback link? Is it possible to do both?

IMPORTANT: Due to a current technical issue with Uber please notify us via the 'Contact Us' form after you have completed your first ride and we will manually credit rewards to your account. We apologise for the inconvenience and hope to have this issue rectified asap.

  • Just be aware of Uber codes. My friend just took a ride home this evening using this promo code and the promo code was disabled a minute after he got into the car. He ended up having to pay for the whole amount.

    • That's the code I used - any more information? (I haven't used my ride yet)

      • He said that Uber requested a picture of the credit card used for the ride and a picture of his photo ID. It is only then that they will consider looking at the account to see if the code is valid and can be applied.

Looking at Uber's T&Cs, it looks like they can cancel a promo code at any point of time, including when they are being advertised in a public forum such as this.

To me, this feels like a bait and Uber is letting this happen for their own benefit.

        • @tonester:

My friend said he got a text saying the promo credit and referral credit has been disabled for his account. He is not willing to give out more of his personal details to Uber so I guess he just have to cop the full fare.

        • @scrypton:
So what else was required to activate it? I want to avoid this.

        • @hamwhisperer: Not sure, really. I think it might be a random check. And if you are willing to give them the information they need then 'perhaps' they will give you the free ride.

        • @scrypton:

Well this is going to be interesting, I'll be trialling it not this Friday but next, I'll update the thread if it's poor.

        • @scrypton:

if he sends them his driver's licence showing full name/photo/licence number and credit card showing full name/last four digits then he should receive a refund :)
