Can anybody who purchased these micro USB cables in the past deal vouch for the quality of the "improved" version?

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/204955

    • I'm super curious about this too

    • I only know it's super thin, haven't try it

    • +5

Tronsmart. You won't regret unless you love experimenting with this inconsistent Tikbro junk. Check previous threads to see what I mean.

      • +1

        Seconded!

I bought a 6-pack for like $12 thinking each cable might last a few months. It's been I think 4-5 months and I'm still on my first cable. The connector still looks pristine and Ampere shows ~1600mA charging whereas I used to get 1100-1200mA with the Tikbro.

      • I bought the Tronsmart 6-pack and so far, 1 won't even plug into the micro-USB port. The other 2 I've tried are ok and working well. Still 3 unused in the box.

Comparing to a Tikbro cable i baught probably around 2 years ago (still going strong):
-Plugs on both ends look identical (except for some markings on the microusb metal underside)
      -Braided cable slightly thicker (obviously)
-Braided one seems to be ever so slightly harder to bend. But that may be because my older one sits in the sun a few hours a day.

-Will test the amps after I drain my phone battery a bit.

Overall I think they just slap some braiding over the old one.

P.s. I have no idea how you guys manage to break the microusb end. I've been using mine almost daily for probably 2 years straight.

Edit:Well doesnt seem I can do any better then 1A on both the new Tikbro and my 18AWG charging cable.(might be because data pins not used for charging.) Someone else test?

      • +2

It's possible that their QC is inconsistent or you are a very lucky one.
I've broke mine (older generation one due to the connector issue) in few months mark.

All the other USB cables I have (from gadgets I've accumulated) haven't died on me in that manner.
So I don't think I've been particularly rough with Tikbro ones and it seems to be a problem that many others have faced as well.

      • Coz their junk is inconsistent and their support pathetic? Oh they've burnt me bad.

ALL of my Tikbro cables have broken MicroUSB ends. I have a whole bag full, as I was intending to ummm… I dunno, it just shit me that they are so fragile.

    • The new braided ones seem to have better quality, and very flexible. Still haven't broken the connectors yet.

    • +1

I bought a micro USB cable from that deal and now it'll only work when I push the micro USB connector upward.

    • +1

good until the connector is broken.. mine is already broken too

    • +1

The connector on mine broke already.

I hate how the rep links to their most voted post not their "last" promotion. True marketing BS!

      • +1

And he will keep doing it.

        • +1

          deal needs more negs imo.

  • Has anyone tried the 4 port wall charger? Says it has one port for iPsd, does that work well?

    • I have. I charge simultaneously:
      - Z3c
      - Nexus 7
      - Pebble time

      Works fine.

    • I love it and have one at work and one at home.
The single rapid charging port charges up an ipad noticeably faster.
I've had them for about a year and they don't get too hot like other chargers.
This price is really cheap for this level of quality, I'm considering getting a third one.

    • I dont know if it was my unit, but i dont really like my one. The 4 ports share the available output load, therefore, 2 amps (not sure if max) is shared between the 4 ports.
On all the ports, i seem to get around 1.2 amps, but fluctuates wildly compared to my S2 wall charger.
I still use mine for up to 2 ports, doesnt seem worth plugging in more devices.

PS. I bought mine on their eBay store, and very impressed with their service. As my first one died after my first night and they sent out a new one after i reported it.

  • Oh man just put an order in on Monday to!

    • Lol what a turn of events, my order before the sale was upgraded (offered a refund which was nice but took the upgrade) 1m length was out of stock so got all the cables ordered free upgrade to 2m.

Their 4port wall charger is great and with the cables; I have a massive decrease in charge time on my phones and tablets. Plenty of length now to place devices anywhere. 1m is restricting (PC on the floor or wall socket a tad bit far) and I reckon 2m is now my new minimum standard. Woven sheath is a nice look.

I shiver to think I was going to buy $10-25ea usb cables locally…Oh delivered to my door from Vic to FNQ in 3days sent mon arrived wed. Wish I got Doz more.

It gets a double thumbs up from me. Will buy more again TNX Tikbro.

      • 1hr05m got me 40% charge (48%-88%) just now so quite happy over the no name crap ones I had.

        Edit: Phone-oneplus1 3100mAh capacity

  • Can anyone recommend a good MFI lightning cable? Is this as good as it's gonna get for price/quality realistically?

    • This cable is pretty good, i bought two last time it went on sale. These cables are braided and seem pretty resilient. I quite like them but i dont think ill buy more than two.

There are other cheapo MFi certified cables on ebay

    • I like the AmazonBasics cables but with the AUD drop they are about $10.50 before shipping. (Shipping on a cable is practically free if you are ordering something else from Amazon though.)

  • +2

Will you be getting 2-3m MFI lightning cables anytime soon?

    • +1

      Yeah, I'd like one too.

tikbro….making cables for fully tik bros since forever

  • good brand Tikbro. Good to see a well known brand get recognize.

  • The new braided Tikbro cables are much, much better than the old (unbraided) ones

No signs of weakening micro USB connector as yet, and cable is plugged and unplugged 3 or 4 times every day. Much happier with this than the old cables.

  • What outputs specifically does the wall charger have?
I see 2.4 on the rapid port, what are the others? Currently using 2.1A chargers for three devices, anything less is painfully slow to charge.
Can't see anything in the link from my phone

  • darn! just bought one of these MFI lightning a couple of weeks ago for full price - $13.99.
no issues so far, going good.

  • Does the mfi and the micro USB come in retail packaging?

  • +1

i bought a few of these but found the tikbro connectors to be poor. bent very easily rendering them useless.
    just my experience…

  • I'll bite… I have bought quite a few of the older versions in the past and they tend to last longer than I usually get from microUSB connectors.

Yes I am a microUSB killer, I use them curled up, bent in strange ways, battery bank in my pocket and phone on a holster etc. etc. basically if I can get more than a few months from a microUSB cable the way I treat them then I'm happy.

I'll torture test this "new improved" version and see how it fares!

  • -1

Fwiw I bought the old style and the new braided ones, and haven't had issues with either.
Still curious about the charger though…

  • Any warranty on Lightning cable? ;)

  • +1

Against my better judgement, I have ordered two of the Lighting cables to test.

My experience with the old model Micro USB has been very bad, with the soft and weak metal on the MicroUSB end causing a failed connection if the cable gets bumped or bent at any time.

The cables and main USB plug are fine - and the MicroUSB is OK if you treat it gently, but my experience has been that these ones are very weak compared to other brands.

That said, the entire concept of MicroUSB is a total fail in regards to durability. The electrical connection is like a slide - it relies on the fragile metal parts (both plug and socket) remaining in good condition and tight, and we have a dead Nexus 7 due to failure of the socket as well.

The Lighting connector is a far better design, but the aftermarket cables all seem to fail where the "plugging-in" part joins to the "handle for the plug" section. Once that breaks, the internal wires get broken quick smart.

This is not rocket science, however a decent design is something that most manufacturers just fail at big time. So, let's see if Tikbro can actually get it right for once.

  • +1

My experience with the older Tikbro MicroUSB cables:

Worked great until they died. Charged fast, but soft metal meant they all suffered from the problem where you have to jiggle it or wedge something under the cable while charging, then eventually they failed altogether. Must have had 9+ all die that way.

I've since got some genuine Samsung cables that haven't skipped a beat but I might be persuaded to try these newer Tikbros sometime.

Unlike most, I'm not fussed they died. They didn't cost much so I haven't lost any sleep over it. But I'm thinking the Tronsmart cables might be the way to go now, or fork out for thicker gauge copper cables like ~20AWG. Costs more but if it lasts longer it's worth it…

  • I got mine today so that's a pretty quick turnaround.

  • +1

    My lightning cables arrived today.

The braid is nice, hopefully it won't get stained from handling (black would be MUCH better).

The lightning plug which goes into the phone is pretty large.

    Tikbro lighting connection: 10.59 x 5.99mm

    Original Apple (ex iPhone5): 7.67 x 4.75mm

That is about 3mm wider than the Apple one, and 1.25mm higher!

My (rubber surround) iPhone bumper case opening 9.55 x 5.35, so it won't fit. I will have to file a chamfer on the end of the Tikbro cable so I can plug it in!

I'm going to try and get a Lighting Socket, because then I can do some proper tests of the current (voltage drop) etc on various iPhone cables. I am currently sourcing a variable DC Electronic Load, and that will allow the amps to be ramped up, then I can measure the voltage drop.

  • I purchased the 4 port wall charger and it arrived DOA, still waiting a week on any replies to two enquirys to Tikbro, purchased through website

  • +1

My new and improved braided micro USb csble is faulty after less than 2 months of use.

I only use it at night, I don't twist it or pull it on an angle and am not rough with it, yet it's lost all tension.

No issues with the near 2yo cable that came with my Nexus 5 that I plug and unplug 2-3 times a day at work.

This has been the 3rd Tikbro micro USB cable that has failed me. I should have learnt my lesson after the 2nd time, but thought I'd give them another chance on the 'new and improved braided' version. Silly me.
