    Certified Lightning cable

    only 1 metre…

Put your iphone on the floor then.

      • So you can step on it or drop something on it. Terrible advice.

        • If you put it on the floor against the wall under the power socket, that would be very unlikely.

        • Only if you live in a shoe box house. Put it on a stool or a box.

        • @tendollar: And then when you walk between the charger and stool your phone will projectile across the floor.

          You shall never win. Ever.

    • +10

Sorry for that. The certification was too expensive. We need to know if there is enough demand before applying for 2m and 3m.

      • +1

We need to know if there is enough demand before applying for 2m and 3m.

The demand will depend on the price…

      • 2m should be the minimum. It's easy to make a few coils in a cable which is too long, but you can't stretch a 1m cable.

      • I would definitely be in for 2m cables if pricing was tiered similarly to your Micro USB products.

  • +1

gave my old tikbro cable to my mother who's original cable stopped working.

just ordered another 2 2m. thanks
damnit just bought 3 mote older version. lol

    • lol same here, i just ordered mine yesterday :(

  • Any discounts if buying the lightning cable in bulk?

    • Sorry that is the best price we can offer.

  • +5

    Hi

Is it possible to have shorter microUSB cables as well? Shorter ones are much nicer to use with powerbanks, like the ~5-10cm ones that come with the xiaomi power banks.

    • +21

Does anyone else want a shorter micro usb cable? Or maybe a longer one up to 5m? We can provide more options if there is a certain demand for it.

      • +13

+1 on short braided 24awg microusb cables!

          Me 24

      • +3

Better use 20AWG cable for 5M!

      • short flat ones would be nice. I find flat ones tend to bend much easier in tighter loops

        • +1

but the material in short flat micro usb dont support much current.I tried charging my s5 using a xiaomi flat cable , also another magnetic micro usb cable from ebay. The max amps i get is 1.5-1.6 amps. Waiting for them to have 2amps short flat micro usb cables.I would def buy some more short flat micro usb cables from tikbro if they support 2amps.Ohh if they were magnetic that be even better ! And yes Op im interested in 5m braided micro usb cables.Would like it to be durable though.I paid $12 for a 5m micro usb cable. The connection is loose after getting stuck under my bed post.Nothing wrong with the connector just the cable. When i charge my fone it turns off and on.If their durable and last a while i would buy more.

ps thx for the deal op.Just ordered 3x 3m 2x 2m 2x 1m tikbro micro usb cables.Never know when they come in handy.Opened all my 5x monster micro usb cables from this deal https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/195743) which are plugged in my blitzwolf usb charger https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/193411.Payed $5 each so this deal is cheaper !Monster have lifetime warranty and all i paid for mine was $5 dso yeh will see how these do.

And yes the monster usb cables are flat cables.Pitty they dont come in shorter lengths

        • +1

@AzNDuDe: I've never liked flat cables; those earphones with flat cables die easier because it puts strains on the cable on certain ways, i.e. only back and forth.

That said, I always thought shorter cables were better in general, because length increases resistance and resistance is the cause of the differences in charging speed.

        • @AznMitch: yep i gotta totally agree with what you said. My experience with flat cable earphones have been with my Galaxy S5 headset and Beats by Dr. Dre.Their not durable at all. Both stopped working after just more than a month. One side would become loose and not work.
Luckily the beats were still under warranty and i got a refund and brought something else. The galaxy s5 headset i just threw in the bin.
Im currently using Xiaomi piston 2 earphones. And theyve Been working great
Thats right the more length = more resistance.Although i found out that its still possible to get almost 2amps charging via micro usb on a 5m cable if u pay more and buy a higher quality one..Got mine from miniinthebox but the cable is faulty now
The cheaper 5m cables from eg aliexpress are crap.Brought 3 from a sale and dont use it after testing on my usb doctor

        • @AznMitch:

That said, I always thought shorter cables were better in general, because length increases resistance and resistance is the cause of the differences in charging speed.

That's correct. To lower the resistance on a longer cable, you can use a thicker wire. That's why the AWG figure is important. 24AWG is OK for 3m. I would much prefer 22AWG like Anker cables though.

      • +1

I probably would grab a short one if it's cheap enough.

      • +1

5m is a bit tooo long for me. But 4m would be nice, also keen for a shorter option too

      • Shorter one would be good. just need for incar charging. let me know before deal ends.. otherwise the 1m should be ok…

    • No problem. We will make 1 shorter cables and one 4m or 5m cables.

  • +2

What about the 5 cables I bought earlier this year with the broken heads?

What type of warranty do you provide for these new ones with the better heads?

  • Thanks OP.. Just ordered one 2m cable. When can I expect the delivery to Sydney?

  • bought the micro usb 2M,hdmi 2M and aux

can anyone vouch for the quality of the hdmi and aux cables?

  • +7

Lets Hope these last longer than the older models.

I was averaging 3 months use with the older ones, then the connector would only work at certain angles.

Braided cable looks cool, I'm looking forward to trying these out

    • +1

Agreed. Why is it so hard to buy a usb cable that lasts longer than an original oem one?

All the original "genuine" ones on ebay are fake. Tempted to make one after a visit to JayCar

      • Why is it so hard to buy a usb cable that lasts longer than an original oem one?

        It's not. They're just expensive. :)

    • +5

it's all well and good that the rep has asked the community on how to improve their cables.. but the micro usb end on this new version seems to be exactly the same as the previous one.. would like to know how exactly they have "improved the micro usb head" and how it's "stronger than ever".. I still wouldn't be surprised if they started wobbling in no time tbh

it's also more appropriate to link to the most recent previous deal not an older deal (and hence not the "last promotion") to read comments about the longevity (or lack there of) of already purchased cables from the older deals

      • +2

We found that the major issue with the micro usb head is the actual connector itself ( the silver part). This new version is using a more expensive connector which should easily solve the problem. For the later version we will change to a smaller and better looking head. We will also upgrade all cables to 22 or 20 awg. Last but not least, we will have a shorter size and a longer size as for requested. That said, we want to make sure this new manufacturer can do everything we ask for. Hopefully this new version is as good as they promised. Please don't hassiate to make a purchase. You are entitled to our 6 months warranty. For us, it's the brand name which is more important, not so much about money.

        • Any chance of selling a short coiled extra-flexible 24AWG cable to use in a car? It'll be neater than a straight one. :)

  • +1

thanks rep i ordered 3. can you comment on the performance of the 3m ones - have you tested if the cable length affects charge rate for the higher needs devices?

    • +2

      @Tikbro
I would like this know this as well. The old version of 3m does not hold up to 2A charge current as advertised. They were max at 1.4A

Btw, why there is no improvement on the Micro USB head (the plastic part) is still so big compared to original cable which can't fit in my phone with a case in?

        • LOL thanks for all the negs. we are talking about a 3 dollar item here lads, which at work i have the equipment to accurately and easily test. and it might help the wider ozb community and maybe the vendor also. I'm hardly on a scam rampage, and i did buy 5 bloody cables already…

      • The new version doesn't have any changes on the current. Charging current relies on many factors. The charger, the cable, and your phone. We don't want to advsrtise our cables to guarantee charging at 2A because some phones can only take up to 1A. Having said that, we are planning to improve the current to a greater level but again it is not a guarantee thing.

      • +1

        @willxiao0790:

I would like this know this as well. The old version of 3m does not hold up to 2A charge current as advertised.

        It's all a bit confusing.

I just hooked my S5 and S6 up to a bench PSU and kept dropping the voltage until it would stop charging properly. They both stopped at around 4.48V.

Batteries need about 4.3V to charge, and charging circuits in phones use buck regulators (no boost) which is why you need around 4.5V to start charging.

        A 3m 24AWG cable carrying 2A will result in a voltage drop of 1.01V. If you use a 5V charger, you'll end up with 3.99V - definitely no-go.

Samsung supplies a 5.3V charger with some phones. It still won't hit 2A though, as the final voltage would be 4.29V.

If you use a 22AWG cable and a 5.3V charger, the end voltage will be 4.66V which is fine. So if you want to do 2A at 3m, you'll need a minimum 22AWG cable and a 5.3V charger.

If all you have is a 5V charger, you'll need a 20AWG cable to charge at 2A. The final voltage will be 4.6V.

BTW if anyone's curious about the actual wires inside, I confirmed last year that the Tikbro cable I received does use 24AWG wires.

  • Purchased 2 x 3m micro usb cables.

I'm hoping they are decent cables, I'm sick of breaking usb cables…

  • Will this enable my lg g3 to be fast charging when using wireless charger? Lets assume my power socket is sufficient.

    • yo G3 wont need 2A to charge. as long as every part of the link is not a bottleneck - you need a 1.5-2A wall chargr, a decent quality cable giving negligible voltage drop, and a good connection between the phone and the induction pad. If these stars align, you should have any problems,

oh, and assuming your wirless charging pad is the correct type. there are a few different breeds out there, different standads, QI, some other shit. so YMMV. there was some previous discussion around the OZB recently,\ saying Kogan ones were working with the G3

and final q - is it a factoy smart case (backingplate)? some of the cheaper knock off smart cases are just unreliable.

    • Will this enable my lg g3 to be fast charging when using wireless charger?

No, wireless charging is still limited to slower speeds at the moment.

      • Sorry i mean normal charging. With my current setup when i place it on charging pad it says “slow charging please use genuine lg charger and cable” im wondering if this will charge it without being slow charging.

        • Mmm… I'm a little confused. You mean normal charging, but then mention putting it on a charging pad?

If you plug this cable directly into your phone and the other end into a high-current charger, it won't be slow charging.

If you plug this cable into your Qi charging pad, the charging speed will be limited by the charging pad and your charging receiver.

Did your G3 come with the wireless charging built-in, or did you add a charging receiver pad? It sounds like you're using a pad that outputs a lower current, probably 500mA. The genuine wireless receiver would charge it as fast as wireless can go now.

        • @eug:
Sorry for confusion. I mean when on the charging pad it says its slow charging, i want to see if i connect this cable to the wireless charger will it still say its “slow charging”

        • @andyman1908: Ahhh. Yup it'll still say slow charging in that situation. It's the wireless charging pad and receiver that's limiting the charging speed.

(assuming your current cable and charger is the one that came with your phone, or at least a good quality one)

        • @eug:
Thats the issue! Its not the genuine charger so im wondering if this cable will solve the slow charging problem. Feels like we are going around in circle but do appreciate you helping out :)

        • @andyman1908:

Thats the issue! Its not the genuine charger

Mmm but you said to "assume your power socket is sufficient".

          So many variables.

Do you not have your original charger and cable anymore? That would be the best way to test. And you still haven't mentioned if the wireless charging receiver in the phone is a genuine or third-party one.

  • Assuming all the Micro USB cable you sell including the $1 cable can also transfer data from phone to computer yeah?

    EDIT: Free Postage included?

    • +1

yeh pretty sure you can transfer data from your phone to your computer like most micro usb cables.
I placed my order and yes i got free postage as well

    Just quoting a previous discussion:

    spy on 16/05/2014 - 00:40
Hey rep, are the 3m ones better quality than the previous lot which many OzBargainers
reported as failing within a month? Also is it possible to get a swap on the faulty one
I received? I raised the question a couple of times on your previous posts…
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/1950579?redirect=1

    Store Repbulksales on 16/05/2014 - 10:27
Yes. They are better quality. If you can bring the faulty one back to our store or
simply send it back, we will swap it for you.

That was last year. The ones I bought believing in this exchange did not last any longer. I don't believe a word when they claim better quality now.

    • Sorry for the disappointment. We always want to get you the best product but sometimes things don't go as well as planned. We worked hard to improve every single element possible. Please stay close, hopefully you will trust us and come back to us again. Thanks

  • I will give them another go. The last ones were useless i.e. the connector didn't last. Hope the cables are improved as stated.

  • ordered 2x 3m cables.. hope these hold up rep

  • +1

My old version last almost a year and still ok maybe because I use it in bed room to charge over night only.

Rep is good. Talk to him first if you have issues

  • I bought 3 lightning cables last time, and I was treating two of them like crap and was surprised as how well they held up; however, the third lesser used cable kept on the desk one day just decided to stop working. I can only assume it's a faulty cable.

I'd still like to order another few, because otherwise, they have been fine. But Rep is there any chance of a replacement of the previous cable as well? Thanks.

  • +3

Last time i brought the cables for use at work, within a couple of weeks both cable that plugs into the phone lost its ability to connect to the phone properly as the mine hooks just got stuck and the cable connection to the phone was lose. Probably the cables that lasted the least amount of time.

    • -1

"We improved the micro USB head and the USB head. It is now stronger than ever.
We also enhanced a braided cable to prevent tangling and twisting."

  • How long is the lightning cable?

  • +1

Hi rep, would like see a flatter end on the connector side as i cant use these with my phone case (spigen neo hybrid metal). I think someone mentioned this in a comment above as well.

My experience with tikbro cables has been relatively good. Only had 1 with the wobbly connector problem out of the 5-6 that i have. Good to see that they are improving the product, but the thick connector is a deal breaker for me unless i change out my case.

  • Just noticed some of my cables are not doing their job. Will give them a go.

  • None of mine from previous purchases are working. Seems you get what you pay for.

  • @Rep - The Tikbro Portable charger, all 4ports 2.5A? Just confirming before I order.
    Thanks.

    • i have one of these chargers. its not 2.5 each. i believe only 1 goes 2.5amps (12.5watts) and there is a maximum wattage shared between all of them aswel, maybe like 20 watts.

im talking about the wall charger

      • Thx. I won't get it then, since it's ont 2.5A each. Cheers Hotdogs :D

  • Hi Op, looking for a long cable - like 5m. Any chance you offer this as well ?
    thanks

  • I just placed a few orders for the cable if it works I'll hang you round with it

    • +3

I think you typoed there. Unless you meant to make a death threat!

      • Yeah it's my spell check I meant if it works I'll hang around with the brand never bought from them before

  • +8

bought 3 so far from tikbro..
none of them lasted more than a month..
the quality unfortunately kills all the fast charging advantages..

I would rather spend some extra dollars to get a trusted brand.

  • +5

i ordered a few expensive tikbro 24 AWG micro usb cables recently. 2 of them im not even lying fell apart when pulling it out of my usb port. a normal pull and part of the USB metal stuff ripped off. i was gobsmacked. so a neg for that.

    • -2

so your negging a new product based on a previous product

the sins of the father etc….

      • I would neg it too if they fell apart immediately in normal use. Would you buy from them again, even if the claim to be better?

        • -1

Would you buy from them again, even if the claim to be better?

These are just $2-3 items, and the rep is quite responsive on the forum. So yes, I would.

      • +3

The problem isn't that they sold shoddy cables once.

The problem is that they sold shoddy cables in early 2014, describing them as top quality. Then in mid 2014 claimed that their cables were improved, yet those were just as shoddy. Now those old ones go for $1 each. I guess they were not much of a bargain for the people who bought them last year.

This seems like just another repeat. I'd rather take my chances on Ebay. Plenty of sellers with 99% positive. Here we are much lower than that, especially if you only consider people who actually bought before…

        • +2

I'd like to know exactly how they

improved the micro USB head and the USB head. It is now stronger than ever.

But like I said above, the head looks exactly the same as before and I wouldn't be surprised at all that these will inevitably fail.

The majority of the positive voters are mindlessly basing it on price alone and nothing else. Which makes this deal seem a lot better than it really is unfortunately. I hardly ever vote for deals but this one is tempting a neg from me.

As for eBay, those 99% feedbacks are most likely due to actually receiving the product in due time rather than commenting on the longevity of the cable. The cheapo eBay cables will be just as bad as these in terms of lasting. But at least this will charge your device much faster in the few months, if you're lucky, that they'll last.

        • Then in mid 2014 claimed that their cables were improved

I thought the improvement was in the actual cable, going from 26AWG to 24AWG?

        • @CVonC:

But like I said above, the head looks exactly the same as before and I wouldn't be surprised at all that these will inevitably fail.

They do look quite similar, but the improvement should be in the type of metal used. You can't really tell how hard the metal is from a photo.

        • @eug:

It's more about how the head is attached to the square rubber/plastic mould than anything. Those rather bulky square moulds are more prone to bending the metal head simply because it has more surface area in contact with the phone to be able to pivot the head upon connection and disconnection.

        • @CVonC:

Those rather bulky square moulds are more prone to bending the metal head simply because it has more surface area in contact with the phone to be able to pivot the head upon connection and disconnection.

Mmm… if a person is going to be pulling a cable out at an angle, having a large surface area there should make it a little bit more difficult to bend the metal part, as the range of motion is restricted by the flat surface. Imagine a slim plug being pulled at the same angle. All the force would be exerted on the one pivot point - where the metal plug exits the phone housing.

That also holds true when plugged in. A plug without a chunky bit is the worst-case scenario - it's the equivalent of sticking a screwdriver into a slot and levering down.

        • @eug:

You would think that that's the case (and it is definitely the case when we talk about large objects) but it's not because as I noted, it's how the metal part is attached to the mould internally. Or more specifically how the mould encloses the metal part. Also the fact that this is rather small in size, it is much more susceptible to wobbling on that pivot point.

Tell me, out of all the oem cables you've had, have any of them ever had chunky moulds? No. Have any of them wobbled after a while? Nope. Now ask yourself the same question with these square generic cables..

        • +2

          @CVonC:

Tell me, out of all the oem cables you've had, have any of them ever had chunky moulds? No.

Thanks for answering on my behalf so confidently, but unfortunately you got the answer wrong.

The first one is the original 26AWG Tikbro. The third one is the cable that came with my WD Portable hard drive.

They are all chunky. None of the non-tikbro ones have "wobbled" after a while. It isn't the chunky body that causes the wobble, it's weak micro USB connector inside the shell that's the main problem.

it's how the metal part is attached to the mould internally.

Yes, that is also part of the problem. The Tikbro's internal lip is very shallow, making it easier to exert force on the internal plug. However, that has nothing to do with the plug being chunky. In fact, if designed properly, a chunkier plug can mean a more solid plug as there's more space for a deeper lip to hold the USB connector within the plug shell.

Here is the cause of the failure in my original Tikbro cable in one photo. Your cable could have failed in a different way, but most of the reports I've read here seem to be consistent with the failure I experienced. The other reported failure is the spring-loaded pins going flat after a while. That's definitely just a poor choice of metal.

The internal retention mechanism that holds the metal shield around the pins fails very easily with some slight bending, resulting in the whole connector falling apart. Once the retention mechanism fails, the only things holding the shell in is friction and the shield wire that's soldered to it.

This photo compares the Tikbro plug to a genuine Western Digital-branded plug. The WD plug is well-shielded.

The connector in the WD USB plug is also moulded onto the cable. This gives the entire internal connector a lot more strength compared to the Tikbro. The WD internal connector feels firm enough to use even without the shell.

Hopefully the new Tikbro design has really improved on the internal connector as well as the internal moulding in the plug shell.

        • +1

          @eug:

seriously awesome pics! i was talking about OEM cables that came with phones sorry. but yeah i agree with you that if it is indeed built well, the chunkier one should theoretically help prevent the wobbling.

  • +1

What does 'stronger' mean in relation to the heads? The problem with micro USB is that the 'springs' in the clips go soft over time and fail to hold the plugs in place tightly. Can you specifically state that it is the spring clips that have been improved?

    • With my old ones, the metal plug would bend and sometimes slide out of the moulded shell a lot more easily than better cables.

  • Whats a decent brand besides the OEM one?

    • +1

Anker. They're sold on Amazon, but for some reason, sometimes they ship to Australia, sometimes they don't.

They use 22AWG cables and good plugs. But they cost a lot more than these Tikbro cables.

    • Tronsmart

  • Anybody have experience charging a camera with Tikbro? My cheap $1 chargers don't work, the charging light turns off after a few seconds and the supplied Samsung charger was only an annoying 40cm~
