10% Extra Value on Dick Smith Cards & 20% off $30 PSN Cards @ Coles from 23/9

1700

Kudos again to DJPigeon at TopBargains for the find. Same deal was posted a month ago by EC with some useful tips from commenters on how best to use these.

There was some talk previously of converting the discounted Dick Smith gift cards into Wish gift cards, however past comments indicate that the majority of stores ceased stocking them some months ago (and technically buying a gift card with a gift card was not allowed).

Starts Wed Sep 23. Enjoy :)

  • In terms of TRS - where does the GST apply? If I buy the vouchers now, does the 60 days tax back start from when I buy the dick smith cards? Or from when I purchase at Dick Smith?
i.e. can I purchase the vouchers now, then buy something with them in October and get tax off when I leave in December?

  • So, if I were to buy a Samsung Galaxy Tab S from Dick Smith this week, I'd be better off going to Coles, buy $500,- worth of DS giftcards for $450,- and then use them to buy the Galaxy tab?

    • +1

Yes, but just remember to check that Dick Smith have stock before you get the gift cards.

You don't want to be stuck with gift cards for Dick Smith and then a couple of weeks later the item is cheaper and in stock somewhere else.

      • Yeah, I'll be checking stock. Can you use the gift cards online as well?

  • Dickies TTP SA had woolies and BigW gift cards

    • Discounted?

      • Nope but kinda the same as a wish gc

  • So
    1) buy the ds gift card at Coles
    2) buy woolies or bigw cards if allowed at ds
    3) convert to wish gc at woolies or bigw at all self serve

    • If you have a Woolies or Big W card there's no need to convert it to a wish card. They're the same thing.

      • Ah correct: confusing myself with Coles/Target

For those who haven't received the catalogue yet.

You'd get all the up votes if you bothered to post the entire catalogue.

I've been waiting for a PSN deal like this! I'll be digging into my savings, but that's what they're there for, I guess. :P

  • I wish the Google play cards would go back on sale somewhere

  • Should work well with 10% Optus prepaid for loading DS Voucher.
10% Extra load on to your DS card & 10% Extra when you recharge with a Ds voucher.
    Should work?

  • I have Coles Gift Cards purchased at 5% discount. If I am understanding it correctly using self checkout I could buy $90 worth of PSN cards and pay at the self checkout paying with my already purchased gift cards so my actual "spend" would be $68.40. If I apply these cards to my Playstation account can I use it for 12 months of PSN network? Seems like a reasonable way of doing it.

    • in reply to the using these cards for 12 months of PlayStation Plus, its been answered already but yes… absolutely… apply credit to your PSN account and then buy 12 months of Plus and have money left to buy games, dlc, etc

  • Do the dse cards work at David jones powered by dse stores?

  • So, I rang our local Dick Smith and asked if they knew if their gift cards can be used to buy items online. They had no idea. I rang their gift card customer service and I couldn't understand a word of what the lady said.
So when I went shopping at Coles, I asked the customer service there and they too, didn't know.
Seriously, I wonder why they have a customer service at Dick Smith, and then employ people who barely speak English.
Now I still don't know if I should get gift cards or not. Bah humbug.

    • +3

There were easier ways to find the answer…

Already answered above - you can use multiple DS gift cards for purchase online.

You could have made a dummy DS online order of any product, chosen gift card payment, seen how easy it is & cancelled. They show how to use a gift card.

DS Gift Card was next to useless as well! But you can check your Gift Card balance there.

      Happy shopping ;-)

    • +1

To be fair, when I asked the 'very english' staff at Coles. They didn't know too. But yes, you can use it online.

What a f morning. I purchased some dse gift cards this morning. Then I called dse to check the balance but they said there was no extra value on these cards… Now I go back Coles asking for help.

Edit: Coles(Hurstville station NSW) told me that all stores are experiencing system fault when activating dse gift cards. No bonus value loads on the card. They are fixing currently.

    • Update They issued me another gift card to cover that bonus value. I bought 10 $100 cards so they gave me one more. Well the customer service manager said when this fixed, i could still have 10% bonus value on these cards, which i do not think it is gonna happen.

      • +7

Update: The system has been fixed. The bonus value has been added to all my gift cards I purchased this morning.

The PSN card discount is live!
Remember to check that the codes haven't been scratched before checkout. One of my codes had been scratched, but I activated it before anyone else could.

    • Can't seem to find any at my local Coles in Coburg VIC. Where'd you get yours?

      • The Coles in Parramatta don't even have them yet.

      • I got mine at the 24 hour Coles in Dandenong. They had a rack full of $30 cards near the checkout.

        • I just called their store on 23-26 princess hwy and they said they only have xbox giftcards. Did you buy them all out? Haha

        • @eviledward: I would have if my wife would let me! But no, there were tonnes left, but I was there at 1:00 am :p

        • @ransworld: haha thanks for letting us know anyways! I would have gone for the whole rack if I could too.

Btw, for those looking for psn cards, I went to Richmond Coles on Church St and they still had quite a few.

    • +1

Managed to snag 5 PSN cards from the Coles near work. Don't worry, I didn't clear the rack, there were heaps left for others.

  • Bugger this. Spent an hour to sort out the extra value deal at Coles.
Checkout chick said I had to call the Dick Smith gift card hotline. They told me I had to talk to Coles as it was their deal and not Dick Smith's.
The woman spent an hour calling head office and was told she was the first to call them about the issue.
In the mean time, my son is running a muck as he is only 5 and can't sit still all that long.
Eventually I bought $500,- worth of gift cards and they gave me $50,- for free.
I was going to demand another 50 bucks just for letting us wait that long :o\

I then went straight online to buy the Tab S 10.5 with 4G with the GET15OFF code for $534,- and paid with the gift cards.
It's the best deal I could figure out for this tablet. %25 Off the full price.

I hope I'm not going to regret this and find the tablet cheaper tomorrow. That will just be my luck lol.

    • +1

Your cards may be loaded the bonus value now. Check them if you did not throw them away.:)

  • do the psn cards have an expire date?

    • +1

On the back of the card it states the credit expires 12 months from the date purchased.

    • There's no way they can take the money once it's in your account though, that would be stealing. :B

  • Hi, anyone pleased confirm that the issue of adding extra value to the gift card are already fixed. Thank you

    • Dont know. I am still waiting for the Coles staff to call me.

      • i tend to buy 23 of 100$ gift card, then wait for futher 10% of apple product to buy a macbook pro 15 at DSE store, so i have to ensure 100% that it will work otherwise i will kill myself =]]

        • You can purchase one to give a try. The receipt will show that 10% bonus value loaded on the card. Then call the number shown on the card to check the balance without scratching the pin. If the bonus value loaded, you can purchase more. If the bonus value not loaded, ask Coles to solve this.

        • +1

Update. The customer service manager of Coles said that it was still not ready yet. Coles and DSE are now working on that.

        • @laoya112:
Maybe i will wait for a moment :)) dont know all the system are failed to add 10% or just some ? Thank you anyway :)

        • @Nghia: It should work now. I tried one of my cards and the balance added up the bonus value. Go hunting the gift cards :)

  • Couldnt find any. Tried coles george st, world square, rhodes to no luck. Anybody find any around sydney?

    • +1

I tried Rhodes too but Rhodes don't have any for some idiot reason..

They have some at Burwood Coles - There were still heaps last night at 11pm

      • Thanks! Ill go check it out tonight.

  • +1

(profanity) coles around my area don't have any PSN cards!

  • Oh yeah, used the self-checkout to purchase dick Smith cards with Coles myer gift cards.

Getting 15% off the ipad mini 4 when it comes out will be awesome!

    • This was for coles in Adelaide rundle place. Not that many cards left, maybe around 20x $100 cards

  • Just bought my $30PSN credit from Coles. The store didn't even have advertising for it yet, but it scanned right. Thanks!

  • Coles Warrawong still has a plethora of $30 Psn cards available. Expected there'd be more sold.

  • Does Coles or Wesfarmers Employee get extra discount using their Team Member Card???

  • I've been to two Coles (one in Geelong, another in Melbourne) and neither had PSN cards for sale (and only one had DSE cards). Anyone know if the sale applies to quasi-Coles places like Coles Express/servos?

  • PS+ goes from $20 to $28 for 3 months.

    Coles makes 30 PSN$ cost $22.

Dylan saves the $8 Sony jacked up the price.

I might, and I genuinely mean might, consider getting Plus again if the games for next month are better.

    • Did you say the PS+ price is rising? .__.
Edit: Oh, I see. The 3-month one went up, apparently.

      • Saw someone replied and I thought they called me out on my terrible math.

Ended up buying Last of Us Left Behind standalone on sale with it.

PS, in case anyone was wondering, EB don't match this. They "only match fixed price deals, not x amount of percent off deals"

        • Left Behind comes with Remastered, which is $28 at EBGames and $30 on PSN at the moment. :o

        • @Wheatgrass: Yeah I know, I was having a tough time deciding between the standalone (I have the main game on PS3), the remastered version with the DLC, or another few months of PS+

  • +1

Ta OP. Picked up four PSN cards. :)

    • 7 here… might go back for more

      • +2

just a heads-up, the $200 cap on stored credit with PSN meant i can only load up 6 of the cards

need to wait until one of my orders drops the level down a bit before I can add my 7th card.

its all aok, unchartered remastered will fix that problem next week :)

  • Thanks TA.
Coles Glenroy still has a bunch of PSN cards. They are only inside the store (not at service counter), next to register 7.

  • How much is a 12 month PSN membership?
If I purchase 2 or 3 $30 cards form coles how do I pay for the membership?

  • Anyone living near Bella Vista - Parramatta etc…. I found PSN cards @Coles Stanhope Garden/Village ……..they still have quite a few left…

  • Anyone in the Liverpool area? Any luck with the PSN gift card?

    • Ok I finally bought 3 PSN gift card at Wattle Grove. There's one more left…

  • No luck with the PSN card @ Coles North Parramatta >_<

Wondering whether I can apply multiple Dick Smith cards in one transaction. Thinking about getting the new iPhone 6s from DSE.

    • There are a few available 10 minutes drive from north paramatta at Stanhope gardens Coles

  • Found some PSN Cards at Coles Blacktown yesterday.

  • I went to multiple coles stores around the city, none stocked the PSN cards. I give up.

  • For those in Western Suburbs still wanting:

Coles Caroline Springs has heaps of $30 psn cards left

  • IMO, PSN discount here is leaps and bounds better than DSE cards. Unsure what the go is DSE prices ain't great and 10% isn't really gonna help. Unless you find something and price match then pay gift card, unsure if they will even do so.

20% off PSN is the real deal there hasn't been any and at most 10% off before

Great for subscription else wait for flash sales.Since AUD dropped vs US. US PSN top up has been expensive

  • Managed to get 10 $30 psn cards from Coles Sylvania. They had about 10 left.

I had to ask them where they were because they weren't on the standard gift card rack

    • yeah, they are placed separated in a cardboard tray

  • anyone know if you can use psn credit to buy playstation plus?

    • Yes, of course. The credit just gets added to your "wallet", and you then use those funds to spend on whatever you like from the PS store.

  • Only if they allow to use PSN card to buy a PS4.

  • So I'm quite new to Ozbargain, how often do these deals happen for Australian PSN accounts? I may go back for more if this sale is rare.

    • +1

Not often. I remember it was last year around Sep that you top up $80 to get $15 extra PSN credit.

This is much better deal than that you spend $24 for $30 value

    • +1

This is a good deal especially if you use it for ps plus membership.

  • Still plenty of $30 PSN cards at Coles Bundoora Square.

  • So I just saved $200 on a new iPad mini 4 and iPhone 6s by using 38 x $50 Dick Smith GF from Coles. Wasn't fun scratching off 38 PINs and entering 38 x 19-digit card numbers. But it worked and worth the saving as no where else would you find discounts on these newly released Apple stuff! The Coles manager said there was usually a limit of 10 cards per customer but he let me have them all… even though it had to be 5 cards per transaction, and every 5th kept failing so he had to process a refund on each failed card. Couldn't meet a friendlier guy. Would have been easier if they have $100 cards. Now my bank is gonna investigate my very unusual credit card transactions full of debits and credits over $2K. Won't do it again. For the love of Apples.
