Well dam. I laid $550 from the last deal :( Amazing phone but.

      • +5

        You're slow.

      • +2

Iphone does not have the best camera, though. Have you seen the Note 5?

      • If you're going to judge a phone's camera quality based on how fast the auto focus is, something like the LG G4 would have the "best camera".

      • +11

If you like taking photos you could buy this phone AND a decent camera and maybe even still have some change left over compared to buying an iPhone ;-)

  • This or LG G4?

    • +1

depends how big of a screen you want… id take the LG because i don't like having a tablet put to my ear hahaha.

    • +1

This phone has a really bad camera (especially in low light) in case you take many photos, other than that no big difference really… maybe LCD vs AMOLED

    • Unless you favour the 6'' display and the original google android, G4 is a better choice.
G4 uses snapdragon 808 chipset, while nexus 6 uses the old 805; and the camera on g4 is also way better then nexus 6.
Also g4 uses IPS screen while nexus uses AMOLED, well, this probably depends on which you like

And google is about to release the new nexus 5 and 6 device, not sure if it will become even cheaper.

    • +1

G4 is better in every aspect.

      Newer faster CPU
      Upgradable Storage
      Excellent Camera
      Fast Response
      Good Screen Size
      Replaceable Battery

The camera on the N6 is poor, it's the Google Camera software that lets it down more than the optics.

      • +4

        Smaller screen.
Not a Nexus and all the benefits this brings.

        • Slower GPU (Yup it's true)

  • +2

Want the 64GB version for $500

  • Cheapest I've seen so far… I did buy the LG G4 over the weekend and the only reason I went with the G4 and not this is because the screen on the Nexus 6 is tooooooooooo huge for my liking.

    • It's bigger than the Note 4…

      So yep, it's a beast.

  • +2

I just got a zenfone 2 4GB/64GB with 2.3GHz CPU for $335 shipped with the 15% off via ebay.

Added bonus is you can add up to 64GB extra storage via a micro sd card.

    • could I pls get the Ebay shop name or link, many thanks,

      • +2

You'd want to buy from QD to get the important 700MHz 4G.

    • +1

Actually because it's MicroSDXC, you can add up to 2TB. At the moment the biggest card is 500GB :P

      • No one is realistically going to buy a 2TB micro sd card for the next few years.

        • No, but something frustrates me when people say 'add up to 64GB' or 'add up to 128GB', because it isn't true.

        • @deanylev:
Some devices legitimately can't handle cards over a certain size.

        • @PainToad: If a phone says it can handle 64GB (or more) it means it can handle up to 2TB. That's the MicroSDXC limit. Phones that say up to 32GB can genuinely only use that much.

        • @deanylev:
In theory. But the manufacturer hasn't tested it, so it can't be confirmed.

        • +2

@PainToad: No, not in theory. MicroSDXC is a set in stone standard, if the OEM is using it, it can handle up to 2TB.

There is a Google event on the 29/09/2015 in the US (i.e. 30/09/2015 here) likely to launch the next gen Nexus devices, Nexus 5X and 6P (or something). Might be worth waiting a few days to see specs and prices before buying the current Nexus 6 :)

    • +1

I agree. Not too long to wait. Doubtful that we'll be back to the Nexus 5 pricing though given the AUD at the moment.

    • Do you know what the event will be called?

Perhaps I'll watch it on YouTube live if I can find it.

    • Rumours are saying the new Nexus 5X will be the budget model while the 6P will be the premium one. Hence, the 5X should be around the Nexus 5 price range. It won't be flagship specs this time round though according to leaks… :(

      • Actually the rumors are that the Nexus 5X will be slightly cheaper than what the Nexus 6 was at launch. Not a return to Nexus 5 prices by any means.

But I will gladly be wrong if they do announce a high spec cheap phone again though. I've been waiting for the Nexus 5X to be released ever since the Nexus 6 was rumoured! I just want a roughly 5 inch nexus phone!

    • +2

The only advantages of the 5X over this are (supposedly) camera, and fingerprint scanner. This comes with 3GB of ram, while the Nexus 5X is rumoured to have 2GB only. Also 1440p vs 1080p on Nexus 5X.

Some approximate pricing of the Nexus 5X:
      16gb: 349 USD, 543 AUD
      32gb: 399 USD, 621 AUD

If they start at 399 USD, it will be even more expensive.

So that's why I think the Nexus 6 for $499 is actually a good deal. I would suggest you wait till Wednesday morning for the Google announcements, but the only thing we don't know at this point is the pricing, everything else has been leaked.

  • +5

I have been using this phone (2 months) and G4 (2 months). My summary is this.

    Pros of G4:

    Upgradable Storage
    Excellent Camera

Pros of Nexus 6 over G4:

Front facing dual stereo speaker (The LG G4 comes with a rear-facing mono speaker)
XDA Development (Nexus 6 can be unlocked, rooted in 5 minutes with the ready built software. Where as to unlock G4 is a painful process and not much development going on yet.)

Things that doesn't make any differences to me personally:

G4 has newer faster CPU on paper, but you can't tell the difference in reality.
Replaceable Battery is not biggie nowadays unless you change your phone once every 3-4 years.
The leather back of G4, it's a lot better than Nexus 6, but then I use Spigen SlimArmor casing for both, so it doesn't make a difference.

    In short:
I prefer Nexus 6 because I watch lots of movies on my phone (I watch even more on my phone now due to the superb front facing stereo speaker) and I love how you can flash any rom easily without any hassles.

    • Thanks for the information.

Though you left out the most important one to me - unlike the Nexus, the G4 lacks pure stock android right? (i.e., superfluous garbage that you don't get on non-google phones)

      • Don't get what's so good about stock android, other than it doesn't lag like Samsung's Touchwiz. Other android skins offer similar lag-free experience with added functionalities, that's why I've never considered phones solely based on whether it's "stock android" or not.

      • +1

Block-quote Though you left out the most important one to me - unlike the Nexus, the G4 lacks pure stock android right? (i.e., superfluous garbage that you don't get on non-google phones)

There's actually some roms that is stock android, but definitely not as good as Nexus 6. (Eg, Kernel not compatible, some very buggy, etc)

Block-quote Don't get what's so good about stock android, other than it doesn't lag like Samsung's Touchwiz. Other android skins offer similar lag-free experience with added functionalities, that's why I've never considered phones solely based on whether it's "stock android" or not.

Stock android + modified kernel = Long battery life for daily use. I can have up to 8 hours Screen On Time for my Nexus 6 as daily use (Including watching movie, check FB, instagram, Whatsapp, Snap-Chat, Spotify and etc..). I also got 1% drop per 2 hour at night when I left my phone to sleep. So literally 4% battery drop over 8 hours of sleep with notification keep coming (Mainly whatsapp and snapchat).

        • I also don't bother with rooting and flashing roms because I like to keep my warranty. Not that there's anything wrong with custom roms though. (Also easier to resell, as I change my phone every 4-6 months)
btw can people flash nexus phones back to the original rom without any counting system like Samsung and HTC?

        • +1

          @clse945111:

The Nexus 6 does not have any kind of flash counter/flag that gets triggered when you modify things. It DOES have a flag indicating that the phone has been rooted, but that flag will clear if you 'unroot' or flash a factory image or even a custom ROM that does not have root access baked in.

So if you needed to go back to stock… say you are trading in your phone, or it is functional but something broke (broken speaker, radio, etc). Going back to stock is as easy as getting the factory image from Google and following the instructions. or even easier grabbing a tool like Wugfresh's Nexus Root Toolkit and letting that do all the work.

  • Hi,

    Had Nexus 4, 5, currently LG G3.
But will go back to a Nexus device.

Primary reason is the lack of any security updates for non Nexus devices.
My LG had the last OS update sometime end of last year.
In this day and age just not acceptable.

Apart from that I would recommend LG G3/4 in a heart beat.

    Cheers

    • my g3 (grey stock) got a security patch a week or two ago. Updates are slower though, think I read lg will bring g3 straight to 6.0 and skip 5.1 (which I found disappointing)

  • Any chance of a similar guarantee to the one previously for the Moto X (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/209995), given the new nexus phones are a day or two away from release?

  • +1

Pros to the nexus 6 deal compared with G4
-local stock with 2 years warranty
-the s805 performance is ~ = to 808, actually the 808 has a slower GPU.
(You won't notice the difference in real world)
    -better front facing speakers
-faster more regular updates and future proof
    - nexus 6 has one of the best screen to body ratio, even better than G4.
-better battery according to gsm arena http://www.gsmarena.com/battery-test.php3

The advantage to the G4 deal compared to this
    -replaceable battery
    -SD slot
-better camera (one of the best on a smartphone currently)
    -cheaper

At end of day it horses for courses☺

    • The G4 is cheaper? for Australian Stock or for grey?

    • G4 also has a much better front camera which most people seem to forget.

Also G4 has fm radio (yup I still use that :)) and ir blaster (has come in handy a few times)

      • I do like the IR blaster, but the problem I have found with Samsung (and possibly LG) is that the releases of OS updates is really really slow. I have a S4 and haven't got an update in over a year. still on 4.4.2

  • +1

At least wait 2 days for the Nexus 6P announcement, even if you're not getting one (it will likely be expensive), the Nexus 6 will likely drop after that.

    • +1

Well that is why I am asking my question about the guarantee. The price is not likely to drop the instant that phones come out, but the sale is ending on 30 Sep I think. So worth asking if Mobileciti are offering a guarantee to entice people to take the plunge.

  • Great deal! I haven't tried on Nexus 6 before, but I notice that the shutter sound in camera app cannot be silenced or disabled for some Android phone. Is it the case for Nexus 6? Thanks.

    • -1

Root then delete/rename the sound file for it.

    • An unrooted Nexus is sinfull.

  • -6

Please buy it and don't wait for Huawei's Nexus 6P. Nexus 6P is the ugliest phone I haven't seen yet!

    • How so? It's flat, and full-metal body construction.

      • It's flat

Not quite. The bar up the top protrudes slightly. But I think it actually looks nice.

    • Why should your opinions have any bearing whatsoever on the purchasing decisions of others? Honestly.

  • just to answer some of the questions about the new models, here is an article on the Nexus 5X
    http://www.gsmarena.com/lg_nexus_5x_specs_leak_in_full_ahead…

Looks like US$379.99 (~AU$546) for the base 16GB model.

Here is a side by side comparison of the 3 latest Nexus phones:
    http://www.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?idPhone1=7588&idPhone2=…

    • I think anyone would be insane to get the 5X over the original 6. Do not regret my 6 at $550. $499 would of been even better.

      • You have been very satisfied with your phone? What video modes does it support? Slow motion 720p? (120 frames?)

        • Camera works fine. For more details than that, you'll have to Google it sorry. I'm far from an expert in photos/recording.

        • @PainToad: not too big? I'm on the payment page now and just hesitating not having used a phone this size before?

        • @mrmagoober:
I've never understood the issue of the size. Basically any phone over 5" you need to use two hands. So why not go all in and go for the biggest available?

        • @PainToad: Well this is a big phone. and I can use my S4 with one hand easy. My wife has problems putting her Nexus 5 in her pocket when she has the case on, so no hope of getting this into her pocket.

so far size isnt an issue, but it is big

  • Well I am going to get on this afternoon I think. The new ones don't fill be with a great sense and given the current pricing I can only see google phasing htem out not reducing the price much given the new models and pricing (indicative at this stage)

  • I noticed that their warranty says you have to take it to the manufacturer. For a company that prides itself on its australian stock you would think they would have the same policy as required under the consumer laws. Consumers are allowed to go back to the retailer and don't have to deal directly with the manufacturer.

  • Have never bought anything from Mobileciti before. People who have please advise me on this. DO Mobileciti actually provides a valid legit AU Invoice with the purchase? I may fly out in next one month and would like an invoice so that I can get the GST back on TRS. Also need a legit invoice for local Aus Warranty purposes as you can understand. Also for Warranty do I send the phone back to Mobileciti or do I take it to Samsung/HTC repair centre directly ( or mail it to them as the case may be) ?

    • +1

Yes they do. It's all in the post.

    • I'm in a similar boat and bought on of the phones yesterday. They provided a receipt for the transaction and it should meet all the criteria, they are a proper shop, not just an online retailer.

  • Thanks TA for your post :)

  • +2

With the $899 Nexus 6P, looks like I'll grab an old Nexus 6 for my marshmallow fix.

    • I came on here to post almost the exact same thing. I was hoping the N5X wouldn't be too expensive, but Ausdroid have provided screenshots showing it will be priced at $659 for the 16GB model, which is WAY out of my price range ($500 is my absolute limit). I'm going to give it a couple of months, to see what happens with the N6/N5X/N6P pricing, but will probably end up going for one of those sub-$500 N6 deals (like the one above) which keep popping up.

  • With the price of the 5X 32GB looking to be over over AU $700, I'm looking at getting one of these for $499. Looks like I just missed the boat, as the ebay ad says $588

  • Just called the store and bought one off ebay. 5X is too expensive and there's no way we can afford the 6P

  • This post gave me $98.20 (28° price protection)
    Thanks OP!

    • Did you buy from mobileciti ebay before?

      • +1

Nope, just Mobileciti online (picked up in store)

        • Cheers
