Save $30 compared to most places. About the same price as the cheapest standard PS4 controller.

    PS4 20th Anniversary

    I think it's PS 20th anniversary

  • +1

    that's pretty cool!

i hear it works well as a pc controller too.

    • +2

Do you need some third party software to make it work for PC?

I know with PS3 controllers, a lot of people were using stuff like motioninjoy etc.

      • i read that there are official drivers for it, don't have one myself though so can't confirm.

i'm happy with my wii u pro + mayflash dongle.

        • Where did you get your mayflash from?

        • +3

          ebay :)

got it during one of those xx% coupons, bit under $20.

i swear, those coupons make buying stuff off ebay at 'regular' prices kinda hard!

      • Best 3rd party software I've found to use PS4 controller with PC is InputMapper

      • There are no official drivers for 360 controller emulation, so to get wider game compatibility, you will need something like InputMapper (previously mentioned, ad-ridden and ugly IMO) or DS4Windows.

The controller is pretty decent, though it seems to have pretty bad latency over Bluetooth and I've gotten a couple of BSODs from the unofficial drivers. Of course these are dependent on configuration so YMMV.

  • Thread title makes it sound like the PS4 is 20 years old.

It's the Sony Playstation 20th Anniversary edition PS4 controller. 20 years since the original Playstation console.

Nice price considering that the standard white PS4 console is $89.95 at EB Games and this one featured in the thread is essentially a special edition.

All that, and no upvote? Tough crowd.

      • It's all quite obvious though tbh.

      • I forgot to upvote. Upvoted now.

Made a comment about OP's poor choice of words yet made an impressive clanger yourself.

I dont see the point of it as a collector's item (as I've read in some forums).. it's just a controller. Useful being a different colour so it stops fights over which controller is whose etc.

    • Why are there fights(presumably in your house?) about who's controller is who's? They are all the same…

Could be useful if you go to a mates place and bring a controller but apart from that I can't think of a reason.

      • +3

some might abuse their controller more than other

    • +1

Perhaps some forums are touting it as a collector's item, but I don't know if anybody here is pushing that angle.

The fact that this is a mechanically standard, fully functioning controller makes it more useful than a lot of "collector's item" trash that doesn't have much function beyond "good feelings". I guess you either like the aesthetics (for nostalgic reasons or you just plain like the looks - both are valid) OR you don't.

The box doesn't say "collector's item", it says "20th anniversary edition" - which is legit. It IS (or was) commemorating the 20th anniversary. Is it worth an inflated price? Debatable - but when it's the same price (or less) as the "regular" controller RRP, then fine!

  • -1

This is just a regular controller. Only special edition nothing more. I guess.

Can confirm this deal. Just went to Target Bull Creek,WA and bought one. There is 3 left in stock :)

      • At what?

        • +4

        • @Ryballs:

          So was I…

  • +6

Surely it's not 20 years since the playstation got released? I'm getting old :-(

    • +4

Yep, Dec '94 in Japan, '95 for the rest of the world. :)

      • +1

That means I would've been 13, I miss those days!

        • +2

I sure don't. We live in glorious times for electronic entertainment. The Playstation IMHO started the ball rolling with proper CD quality audio (not that midi BS), and the third person 3d games. and suddenly the last 7 - 8 years with full HD TVs suddenly appearing, blu ray, 1080p and now quad HD is showing, it is just such a leap. People don't realise how long the prior generation of TV had been around, and that it wasn't really until the last 5 years or so of PAL's life that the TVs were actually capable of doing the 50 year old technology some justice.

        • @Mobe1969:
My kids have an XBOX360 and a Wii and yet quite often will play the Nintendo 64, go figure.

        • @blerk: Yeah, I love the realism in modern games. As a gamer since the 70's (we had a pong console) I enjoyed those games at the time, including the space invaders, in the 80s, the sega consoles in the 90s. But once I saw the ad for RE2 and got the Playstation, then Silent Hill, there has been no going back for me. I inwardly cringe thinking of the type of games I'd play prior to that, and don't have any intention of going back to play those sort…

        • @Mobe1969:
I must admit I almost cried when I found Alex Kidd in Miracle World on the Wii Store, it was like I was all of a sudden 8 again. I'm a sucker for retro gaming lately.

        • +1

@Mobe1969:I wasn't talking about technology when I said I miss those days, I just meant being young.

        • @onetwothree:
Hehheh. I prefer being an adult, and not living with my parents, and not being told what to do :P

        • +2

          @Mobe1969:

and not being told what to do

I assume you're not married! Haha!

        • @onetwothree: LOL. Actually yes, for over 23 years!

  • +4

Woot, have to get me one of these. Nearly bought one a couple weeks ago from Big W ($85) glad I waited.

    • +3

      Woot, that was close

  • They should sell at Target ebay so we can all use our $50 voucher.

  • Does anyone know how limited these are? I don't have a PS4 yet but I plan to pick one up next year sometime and would like this controller but not sure if I should get it now or wait.

    • +12

I'd think next year will be 21st year so no won't be around then.

    • +3

at the moment they aren't very limited at all, by the time you pick one up next year, they could very well start to be "limited" so if you really like the design, i'd consider grabbing one now, it's been a while since there has been a really good price on ps4 controller ($54 from DS ages ago)

      • I actually like the white controller better and probably have little need for a second controller so this would probably just be a waste of money. It does have the nostalgia factor to it though…

    • +1

lol! their warehouses have tens of thousands of them, with their chinese factory ready to pump out millions more.

if you had the money for 100,000 units of these… Sony would hook you up.

But shhhh… bro, it's just for you! (and anyone else that asks)

      • +3

Glad to know that Son ofa Zombie is our resident Sony insider. Speaking as though something is fact when you really don't have any proof is seriously irritating. Maybe they have tons, maybe they only have a six month supply. You don't know.

TL;DR: Ignore this guy. If you want one, buy one.

        • I agree. If you want a ds4 controller, it is a great price. And if you want it like me for sentimental reasons, grab one.

I'd have really loved one of those anniversary consoles though. Damn it. :(

  • Any deal in NSW?

    • I think yes but give your nearby store a call before going because it might be limited.

    • Yep, it's live Australia wide.

Just grabbed one from Eastgardens in Sydney

  • +1

I wouldn't really call this a 'Must have accessory'.

    • +7

It is if you're kicking ass with a controller, and you're all out of controllers.

      • +2

A controller isn't an accessory if you're all out of controllers.

      • you wouldn't be kicking anyones ass if you didn't have a controller

        • My boot says hello.

          excellent…
Welcome to Lee Carvallo's Putting Challenge. I am Carvallo. Now, choose a club. You have chosen a three wood. May I suggest a putter? Three wood. Now enter the force of your swing. I suggest feather touch. You have entered power drive. Now, push seven eight seven to swing. Ball is in parking lot. Would you like to play again? You have selected, No.

        • @PVA: LOL LOL X)

Just some info for people not using official or licensed ps4 headphones… the mic on your headphones won't work on new controllers jack including the 20th anniversary.
Read up about it and it's due to an update in the control
alot of people complaining mostly like iPhone headphones or like me my Bose headphones.
The old control works with anything

    • Do you have any links to discussion on this? Pretty weird. I tried searching but a a lot of generic stuff is clogging the search results.

    • Thanks for posting, I'm really in doubt if I'll get one now.

I've always loved that Sony didn't force you to use proprietary stuff, with the PS3 they used standard USB connectors for accessories (as opposed to XBOX 360), and you could use any bluetooth headset for chat.
Then with PS4 they used standard USB cables again, updating SingStar so that you can use a smart phone as a mic, and being able to use any headset with a 3.5mm jack was great.

      This isn't a good sign.

      • +2

Yep, they pretty much alienated me from all racing games on the PS4 because I wasn't going to re-buy a new wheel since my Logitech G27 is still perfectly fine. ie. you need to buy a new wheel that has PS4 support added, which is pretty ridiculous given we are talking about ~200+ peripherals.

  • good deal i was just at Kmart now and they are $89 there!

  • -8

It's butt ugly gray. There's a reason Sony stopped making the PlayStation that colour.

    • +5

the irony of your comment is lost on you isn't it….

  • +11

sorry, nope. gunna wait for the 30th Anniversary Edition controller

Paid $100 for this on release :( great deal

Target is also part of the 'spend >$30 on PlayStation get 3 months free STAN' promo.
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/214469

    • hmm I didn't get a code or anything from target when I bought one. Didn't realise there was some stupid trick you needed.

Not that I want stan, but I'd have given it away.

    • No they're not, Tarket is though.

    • Yes target does run the same Stan promo. I got the code when i bought this controller today.

    • i also think any ps+ member has that 3 month offer, I get an email yesterday with a code.

  • +1

One left at the Target Brisbane city store as of 15 minutes ago.

  • Anyone checked Westfields Southland (VIC) Target? Thinking of heading over there later today.

  • I went to Target on Bourke St. in Melbourne and couldn't see any there. Couldn't see a space for them amongst the regular controllers, so maybe it's a "participating stores only" thing.

    • Must be limited stock and at certain stores.

  • Anyone been to Bourke St Target that can comment on stock levels?

    • I been to there this morning, no stock

  • Of course this deal pops up when I'm at work today. I had all of this week off!

EDIT: Just called Eastgardens NSW, but they're sold out.

  • As someone who had a PS1 & PS2 and then went on the xbox path for the next few years, I really feel that now that I've just bought a PS4 this would be a nice addition. How have people fared in Brisbane with stock levels?

    • I posted above the Bris store had one left out at about 8am

      • No longer available :(. Someone bought it a couple of minutes before I arrived to the store

        • Damn. And they didn't have any more stock out back?

        • @Mobe1969:
Nope, at least according to the (not so friendly) staff I asked to.

    • +2

Hey Hinee. I bought one yesterday at Mt Ommaney. They had plenty in stock then. Maybe give them a call?
