As for those that don't do social media, TIO.
It costs the Telco irrelevant the outcome an administrative fee to encourage them to deal with cases.
Can't hurt them directly for their ineptitude, might as well do the next best thing.

Also, they've a habit of deleting social media commentary against/critical of them.

OK thought I'd give some info on the new deal with Vodafone.
TPG will be sending invitations to existing customers to try out the Vodafone network (in the next 2 weeks) . The offer will be free of charge for 2months. After 2 months you either sign-in and stay on the Vodafone network or go elsewhere cause their current Optus plans will no longer exist .

    Extra info:
TPG will be sending new Vodafone sims (free) to existing customers if interested in the trial.
Their new Vodafone plans do not include international calls any more.
OPTUS has released new offers to keep their TPG customers. Good for once to see some aggressive competition.
Approximately 300,000 TPG customers will either stay with TPG on the Vodafone network or port elsewhere.
If interested in international calls, Virgin mobile $40/month plan (unlimited calls/text + 4 giga of data) includes $200 international calls.

    • thanks for that update sam26.

can anyone identify an issue with doing this - go with the new vodafone plans free for the next 1.5 months then switch to optus to get the 1/2price 1st month and $10 off per month before the offer expires at end of november… i assume by switching to Vodafone i'll still be a TPG customer so optus will register me as a TPG customer even if i switch across to the vodafone network.

      • In theory it should be fine since OPTUS calls for TPG customers. OPTUS will eventually send you a new sim so it shouldn't matter if you were TPG OPTUS or TPG Vodafone. One thing though,OPTUS offer ends on 29/11 so you might only have 1 month (by the time you receive your new TPG Vodafone sim) or less to try Vodafone.

    First real post of advice.

I've been with Spintel (who uses Optus towers) since I moved on from TPG. Seems like now's a good opportunity to consider it. They're flexi, and no bill shock. If you go beyond your limit they just bump you up to the next size category for $2 more a month or something small like that. Awesome so far. $30 plan gets me 500 mins, 200 texts (95% imessaging anyways) and 4gbs internet (4g optus) for $30 a month. Cant beat that.

    • Will be charging $5/month now to downgrade plans from November 1st.
      http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies.cfm?t=2230265&p…

I'm actually thinking of switching from Spintel to TPG Vodafone for $20/month and trialling it. If I don't like Vodafone I'll jump onto this Optus deal.

      • ah thats shit! thanks for that. i guess its pretty hard to blow past 3gb internet and 500 mins for me personally. probably still stick to it.

    • +1

The Spintel $30 plan is hard to beat but their lower cost plans have lost value this year. Used to be 1.5GB for $21/month but now it's reduced to 1GB.

  • +2

After 12 months does it go back to $30 pm? If so, no thanks.

I should point out that Vaya offers a no contract deal with more data, provided you don't use more than $650 worth of calls. Uses same Optus 4G network.

Starting at just $18 per month with $650 in calls, unlimited SMS & 1.5GB of Data! Billed per kB.

Extra Data just $10 per GB
    No Contract, no worries!

  • Not the best deal actually. The new TPG Vodafone deal is better value for light usage if you have good coverage.

    • Link?

      • Here's the link
I have checked the FAQ's and these plans are delivered on the voda network.
There $29 plan is more value than the Optus $35 for 12 months for light use.

I'm still on the $17 old plan with 1.5 GB and overseas calls included. Never had an idea that the plan was superseded and there now going with Vodafone.

        • Thanks. But these plans don't come with a handset.i am after a plan with handset so that work can cover the cost :)

    • TPG/Vodafone -

      $20 per month

$400 worth of calls & text to other networks/landline
      Unlimited calls TPG to TPG
      1.3gb data 4G
      No contract

      Optus -

      $20 per month

Unlimited calls & text to anyone
      1gb data 4G
      24 month contract

I'd go with TPG/Vodafone solely because of the no contract. If both were contract I think the Optus deal is better due to the unlimited calls to all networks/landline.

      • +2

If you go SIM only, there is no contract.

Thanks Op for post had no idea. Dam u tpg!! So happy with my $20 plan 1gb plus international. You had to go and stuff it!! Grrr…. I got better things to do then to look for another alternative. Thus is life things always change over time. Up yours change!!! Lol

BTW has anyone found a similar (like tpg/optus) with international calling? Very important to me…

      • Same, currently paying $12 on old TPG plan for a secondary phone and includes international - looking for something similar.

    • I am on the same boat, now searching for a new provider with international calls. Please share you choice if happen to find something, thanks :)

    • +1

Looks like if you are getting international calls currently, then it will continue: http://whrl.pl/RepOtD

"If your current plan includes international calls then the plan we are going to invite you to on the Vodafone network will include international calls as well"

It also includes a 2 month free trial of the VF network.

Sounds OK to me I suppose, even though I will be paying more compared to the old $12 plan I was on with them.

Just found this one which seems ok- $25pm 300mins and 2gb data. No international calls though (not that I use them) and seems to be on Optus.

I received the TPG offer email; Sorry if I missed it in the above chain.

2 MONTHS’ RECURRING CHARGES ON US - NO RECURRING CHARGES FOR THE FIRST 2 MONTHS! A SAVING OF $39.98

This claim is actually wrong because I am still on the older $17.95 pricing.

    Inclusions;
    $19.95/mth
$550 Included Value, Standard AU & International Calls & Text, Unlimited Calls to TPG Mobile, Home Phone and Voicemail

1GB Included Data, Excess Data: 10¢ per MB
    4G Coverage (LTE 1800/850 MHz)

    • Thanks for the update, mate. Does it INCLUDE international Calls & Text? Finger crosses and I don't need to find other alternative plans!!

      • Int calls are included however there is no description of the included duration or $.

    • in the other thread, it appears that international calls are not included in the new TPG/Vodafone offer

      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/214986

are you saying that the email you received from TPG indicate otherwise?

The wording on TPG's website also seems to confirm that NO international calls will be included

Anyone tried getting the deal withous being a tpg customer?

    • I would like to know this also. I want to jump from Spintel.

    • I asked Optus. Only available if you are with TPG.
I am thinking of joining TPG (from Telstra prepaid).

  • if this was open to other ports i'd jump… the $35 deal for 4GB is damn good…
    im on telechoice/telstra

Link no longer seems to go to an Optus/TPG offer page. Does anyone know if this offer has been pulled?

    • yes, was about to post the same.
Will have to ring them I guess. I thought the original published expiry was 30Nov

  • You have to call up for this now as the offer link is not working anymore. Offer should still be valid until Nov 29 and the banner advertising this offer is still on the Optus homepage.

    • Update: offer is back online and has been extended to 4 January 2016.
