1Password 40% off + 20% Off ($33.59US / $47.53AU) @ AgileBits

700
MacPowerUsers

As you may or may not know, Lastpass has been bought by LogMeIn.

While I wont go in to why some people think this is a bad thing, many people are leaving for other password managers.

Agilebits are currently having a 40% off cyber security month sale.

This means ALL versions (Mac, Windows, iOS and Android) are currently 40% off.

If you buy the Mac or Windows Apps from the Agilebits Store you can combine this with the existing 20% off MacPowerUsers coupon to get it down even further. (This works for Mac and Windows versions)

Original Prices:

  • Bundle (Mac + Windows): $70US ($96.50AU)
  • Individual (Mac OR Windows): $50US ($68.90AU)

Current 40% Off Discounts:

  • Bundle (Mac + Windows): $42US ($57.90AU)
  • Individual (Mac OR Windows): $30US ($41.30AU)

With Extra 20% Off Discounts:

  • Bundle (Mac + Windows): $33.60US ($47.50AU)
  • Individual (Mac OR Windows): $24US ($33AU)

1Password have a good reputation, and have been around for around 10 years.

They have only charged for new versions a hand full of times, the average been every 5 years.

Going off that your $60 (Mac+Windows+iOS) license over 4 years would be ~$13/yr. So roughly the cost of LastPass Premium.

While this isn't rock bottom cheap, it is the cheapest its been for nearly 2 years.

If you have an Apple ecosystem then 1Password is the most polished.

I use 1Password on a Mac + iOS + Windows, It has Auto-fill for iOS Safari (Click the action button), Plugins for Firefox, Chrome and Safari on Windows and Mac, and supports sync'ing using dropbox so all your machines are up to date.

I'm a LastPass user and don't mind it.
Can you go into detail why the Logmein buyout is a bad thing?
I'm a windows user and love the chrome/standalone applicaiton/ios functionality.

LMI, with very little notice (7 days? something like that) moved from offering some free services to none, charging big $$$ for mobile apps then making the apps free but requiring a paid subscription to use the app… as for their acquisitions, allegedly they gimp them and Hamachi is one acquisition that people throw about (but I'm not very good with the details on that).

I'm currently trialling out Safe In Cloud - only issue is no 2-factor authentication and no Windows Phone app (I'm contemplating buying the new Lumia 950XL :P).

Keepass/X has a plugin for 2FA which is great, only problem is there aren't official apps for mobile - meaning you're trusting yet another person to keep your data safe.

For now, I'm paid until 2017 for Lastpass, here's to hoping they don't make current premium users 'power' users and offer a new tier of premium. :/

EDIT: "Universal Windows 10 desktop + mobile app is planned for the end of the year." <- from the dev of SIC

      • LMI also made it very hard to remove the software from the Mac. Heaps of files scattered all over the place and even
after running the installers it still kept lots of files everywhere,

Look they were good when they had their free levels, upto 5 PCs, and i understand all business need to make money
but they pretty much cut off all the consumers and just want to focus on the corp side.

Their call but they pissed off a lot of people who were using them

I think they charged a fair bit for their IOS/mobile app and people bought it to use with the free account

LogMeIn has bought companies before and completely dropped free versions on very short notice, changed once off $30 plans to $99 year plans and more

      • Yep. Been screwed over by them twice. Once when they made their app free after previously making people (me) pay $30+ for it and second time when they flip flopped their pricing structure. I have used Lastpass Pro for years, but I am abandoning ship now before they screw this up too. Just got to choose between Dashlane or 1Password

      • No, just no.
If you can remember a different password for every site you use that is 8+ characters then great. But I cant.
        More info

      • +3

        No it's not.

Better to have super long passwords than to remember a bunch of shorter similar passwords or using the built in save feature in browsers or god forbid a spreadsheet or text file.

        • I thought super long passwords didn't mean much in the digital age unless they were hashed and salted.

        • +5

@ozdesi: That is why you use a unique password for every site :)

        • @ozdesi: That's right.

Unless the password manager itself is open-source and you understand how it's storing it. KeePass is a brilliant alternative. It's free, opensource and has clients for (almost) every operating system.

  • +1

Just in case the OP wasn't clear, the Androidand Windows version is also 40% off.

    • Thanks updated

    • Any idea what's the normal price?
I have checked a couple times the Premium version and as far as I can remember it was $8.18 and it shows exactly the same price when you tap from your Android phone.

      Thanks

  • Do I need two keys if I want to use it on my laptop and computer?

    • Its one license for where ever YOU want to use it. ( think they ask questions after 6 machines)

    • Yeah just did the ol' google trick and came up with the same answer. Thanks

    • There's one licence you have to buy for each operating system type: mac, win, ios and android. So two win boxes = 1 licence.

  • Does 1Password have autofill capabilities? Lastpass is excellent in the sense that when I visit Gmail or other webmail and I have multiple logins, I can have it fill with my favourite email or I can leave it blank and click on a drop down box and select the account I want to login with.

    • On my Mac I press Command + \ and it auto fills.
Windows also has a hot key.

    • Ohhh yeah! Hopefully LogMeIn don't (profanity) it up.

  • Also,
    On 2-factor….
Lets assume I know your email address and what password vault you are using.
For Lastpass 2-factor meant your password AND google auth/yubikey/etc.
For 1Password 2-factor means your password AND a copy of your vault (since it isn't just a web site)

So 1 Password is actually 2-factor (2 forms of identification required) authentication by default.

  • Thanks for the post op. Bought one.

  • All works for me, nice one. thanks

I personally love KeePass. It's open source so it's free (OzBargainer's dream). It is harder to set up but once you've got a nice setup it really is great to use. Your passwords are stored locally so for the sceptics out there, your passwords' safety don't depend on the security of another company. You can store them on Dropbox but I strongly recommend two factor authentication with an encryption key stored elsewhere. What I love the most about KeePass is the flexibility. There's so many options to set it up.

    • KeePass is awesome.

I tried LastPass, but found KeyPass worked better.
Works in PC, Android etc, my password database is stored where I want. Free and open source.

    • +1

Couldn't agree more - KeePass all the way! I use it on both Android and Windows.

And if you are Firefox user, you can get KeyFox plugin for auto fill.

    • How to set up two factor authentication? Is the plugin below?

      https://bitbucket.org/devinmartin/keeotp/wiki/Home

      • I'm not sure of the utility of 2 factor authentication for something like this? First, they have to get hold of your database, then they have to brute force the AES256 encryption which would take literally billions of years with current technology. The only situation where I see that it would be useful is where there is a chance that someone might get hold of your password.

        • OK, I see that the plugin let's you generate OTPs for other services. I can see how that might be useful but wouldn't it be better to keep the two authentication measures separate? I guess everything is a trade-off.

I only buy 12 month subs @ $12, so if LMI doesn't anything shitty I will just jump ship. Why commit to this mob based on the assumption LMI will alter LP in a negative way? People seem to be inexplicably loyal and defensive when it comes to password managers. They are generally all pretty good.

  • Just curious, how is it different to "Stickypassword" which is for free atm and is for all versions?

  • If password managers were secure why the big institutions are not using them to manage employee passwords.
Do these providers guarantee to compensate
If there is a compromise you set to loose your identity?

    • +2

      Plenty of enterprises use them.

  • +1

I have been using 1Password for years. Highly recommended.

Where is the "action" button on iOS safari? I've been using 1Password on iOS for years and I always retrieve my passwords manually!!!

  • -5

Why would I want to give all my passwords to some company?

    • +3

Your password vault is encrypted with the one strong password you have to remember.

    • +4

hay guyz, I don't understand encryption but let me post the same thing as ten other people which has already been answered.

I've been using 1Password for years. It's a great application at full price let alone if you are being provided with a discount.

The only caveat is about which version you purchase. If you purchase from their website you can't use iCloud as your sync method. iCloud sync is only available with the Mac App Store version. The web version used to support both iCloud sync as well as Dropbox sync, but due to changes with iCloud this was no longer possible.

The Mac App Store version supports both Dropbox and iCloud.

    • I rather use Dropbox any day because its multi-cross platform. (i.e able to sync between, Mac, Win, iOS and Android) comparing to iCloud restricted to Mac and iOS only.

    • I want to be able to use iCloud too. The Mac App Store seems to also be on discount too. It's a few dollars more, but combined with the ~20% discount iTunes Credit I always have anyway, it's close enough. Thanks OP for bringing my attention to this, I've wanted to give 1Password a go for a while.
I don't think it's time to jump ship from Lastpass yet unless Joe Siegrist screws it up or resigns, but it's nice to have a backup plan.

  • Is there a way to configure a hot key for automatic filling in Firefox? Windows 10 user here. There is no configuration dialogue in the add on..

  • Great find for a very good product, been using 1password for a while now (since version 2 or 3 I think), very convenient.

  • 1Password is a good app, atlhough I find it a bit pricey and overrated.

  • Thanks OP - was about to buy it anyway, so the extra 20 percent was a nice bonus.

  • Good deal. About time I got legal ;-)

$29.99 USD for bundle Educational License and used the coupon code MacPowerUsers = $23.99。
    https://agilebits.com/store/educational

    • Cheaper than the upgrade which is $24.99US

    • can i buy it for my private use only? any idea? i no longer study tough …

edited : just bought it, seems like no problem. thank you

      • Problem if in any case they want to do random checks, you'll get into trouble…

        • bought it and send as a gift… no problem, since gift can be for anyone…

  • I've been waiting for this deal for a long time!!!! The RRP is too much for me. Previous discounts were not good enough. OP is awesome. Big thanks!!!

  • I'm not going to switch to another gatekeeper on this one, so it's going to be KeePass… just as soon as I can get my head around it.
Just a matter of time before LogMeIn or some other evil company buys 1Passwords too.
I can't believe that LastPass sold out like this, everyone knows how shitty LogMeIn are. Not even their data breach was so bad.

    • $115 million means you don't care who buys it.

    • 1Password doesn't store your data in their own cloud the was Lastpass does (although I think the Lastpass way is a fine balance of convenience and security, they don't hold the keys, just the encrypted data). The vault in 1Password is stored on the cloud storage of YOUR choice, or none at all if you want to use wifi sync.

      • But it still needs 1Password software to operate

  • used 1password since my 1st macbook… totally recommended…
now i had it on every single laptop + desktop + my iOS

  • Thanks, great app :)

    • Reading the links,
Seems the latest versions of 1password use the new format by default, fixing the issue.

  • Is this deal ended already? I can only get 20% with coupons, but the 40% discount is no where to be seen… I guess I am too late? Oh well… I guess I will stick to KeePass in that case. Thanks OP for the deal though.
