10% off Old Apple Mac Pricing @ The Good Guys [5% Price Match at Officeworks]

320

While DSE have come out with their 10% off Apple pricing (and it seems every other reseller does every other week) it seems that TGG missed the memo that Apple was going to jack up prices on Thursday last week. Hence their advertised pricing is 10% off the old prices.

DSE Swanston St have put up their 10% off pricing yesterday, and it is 10% off the new Apple pricing ($1399 for MBAir 11") whereas TGG has the old pricing ($1250 for MBAir 11").

Officeworks are actively price matching TGG, and therefore another 5% off, so long as the OW store has them in stock. I picked up my MB Air 11" for $1068 after the price match, which is better than the DSE 10% (plus any possible Coles Gift card 10%).

It expires tomorrow night though, so go quickly if you are intending on buying a Mac now.

Dick Smiths prices are unchanged, according to their website. They are higher than yesterday's prices because they had their 10% off sale yesterday, but they have yet to pass on Apples price increases.

If you had purchased from DS yesterday and used discounted cards (from Coles) then the final price would have worked out cheaper. If you had used Wish cards then it would have worked out the same.

Still, nothing beats the $799.20 + $50 eBay voucher from this previous deal https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/204710

    • I was going off the instore pricing, which was the new $1399 pricing.

Impetus for me was my old early 2009 MBP dropping out on Thursday, hence starting this whole thing

Good price considering that, pound for pound, it's better than any Windows based equivalent

    • Good price yes, but Windows based equivalents are still a tiny bit cheaper… the price difference is just not as big as some people may think. For about the same price as 13" pro retina (128GB) you'd get a Windows equivalent/ultrabook with 256GB SSD and a touch screen, maybe sometimes i7, with a slight downgrade to Full HD screen (1440p and 4k are sometimes in the same price range when on sale), but that's about it really. None of the alternatives come with OSX and that's what some people want, so each to their own I suppose.

      • Windows 'equivalents' tend to always have slower SSDs
Windows also burns through alot more battery charge than OSX (haven't heard what Windows 10 effect is though)

Isn't size more important than speed on a modern SSD? To be honest in real world usage most SSD’s feel pretty fast and snappy already, as long as you're not using it for benchmarking only i don't know why you need the fastest SSD in the world. On the other hand, extra 128GB of space is ultra useful…

@clse945111: Battery life is more important in day to day use and that is where OSX obliterates Windows, by hours

        • @yoyomablue:
And that's exactly why some Windows ones have bigger battery in them. New ultrabooks are up to about 10 hours of web surfing, not really sure where your “hours” came from, perhaps from a 2hr lasting notebook? Aren't we comparing something similar? (size/price/looks) Well I'm using the Spectre X360 to compare.

@clse945111: Apples v apple tests have been done on laptops with EXACTLY the same specs and OSX lated hours longer than Windows

        • @yoyomablue:
          and your point is?
I never said Windows consume the same amount of power as OSX or less, because it doesn't, I said Windows based manufacturers are using bigger batteries to go with the powerdrain and some are achieving the same or at least not far off battery life as macbooks.
There's no need to keep repeating the disadvantages of Windows just because it's slightly cheaper or offering more with the same price, both systems are good and have their advantages/disadvantages. If Windows is so bad then it wouldn't have 85% of marketshare.

        • @clse945111:
Then that adds weight which is not an apples v apples comparison

        • @yoyomablue:
Perhaps you should do some research then, the mbp retina 13” is 3.46 pounds and Spectre x360 is 3.26 pounds… And the Spectre is already one of the heaviest ultrabooks.
I'm only here to point out that Windows ones offer ‘slightly’ more for the same price seeing as your original reply stated otherwise, but that price difference is worth it to have OSX for many people. (I also run OSX on my PCs for fun but I'm not going into details)

          @clse945111:
After having a brief look it looks like Windows laptops are catching up, although it is a lower screen resolution.
I have the 15" MBP which allows me to output to a UHD monitor.

        • @clse945111: yeah but then you have to live with a windows machine… ugh.

  • As far as I can tell with the iMac's both DSE and TGG's are selling the previous models and not the recently updates ones??

  • Tried to buy the macbook pro i5 2.9G 512GB but both delivery and pick up are not allowed. What a joke.

  • so the mac airs aren't the latest model? Their descriptor reads version 4. I couldn't find a place that'd deliver and I have 2 hours to get to their store to plonk down 20%

    • I can only comment on the iMac's but the latest versions were only released last week. Looking at the specs, they aren't selling the 4k 21.5" or the new 5k 27" (can tell by advertised CPU speeds). It's can be very hard to compare Mac models but at least with the iMac's you would be wise to only buy ones advertised as "Late 2015" rather than "mid 2015" or earlier.

    • AFAIK, the MacBook Air hasn't been updated for a while. These are the latest models.

  • Thanks. Ordered one today from officeworks. Apparently paying using gift cards means I have to wait for new stock to be ordered and they won't ship straight from their warehouse.

But compared to the new RRP I'm saving about $540.

    Thanks,

Managed to pick up the rMBP from JB Hifi for $1620. Also got 7.5% employee discount from my workplace. Should also claim 10% TRS later this year. Brings it all down to $1354. Was really waiting for Skylake but not couldn't pass the ~$650 reduction.

Thanks a ton for this. Can't believe they're going up again. Glad we got in while they're still cheap!

  • Good to hear some people got in and made the most of it.
