This is probably an enthusiast thing but PCCasegear now have preorders up for the white RGB keyboard:

My thoughts on the Ducky Year of the Goat RGB:

  • No software needed for lighting effects (conversely limited customisation)
  • Standard key sizes for bottom row. This is helpful if you are looking to replace your key caps with something different (e.g. vortex pbt/pom doubleshots - Corsair and Razer have different key spacing on the bottom row whereas Logitech use different switch types entirely)
  • The Shine 4 and Shine 5 series from Ducky have massive bezels up from the Shine 3 and the Ducky YOTG uses the same slim case as found on the Ducky ONE.

I really don't expect the price on these to drop further than this, the Ducky Shine 5s sold out quickly.

why is this a bargain ?

    • +5

Ugh I guess there's no point to posting this to ozbargain, it is for mech keyboard enthusiasts looking for a standard RGB keyboard

PCCasegear are the only distributors here in Australia:

next closest would be to somehow import it from New Zealandor Singapore, Taiwan / China / US

    Why is it supporting LGBT?

  • +3

so it's a normal keyboard with a bunch of colourful lights? does it do anything else for $257?

where is the bargain in this? is the previous model like $500 or something?

You better stick to your $5 membrane keyboards then mate. An ok deal considering the price may go up.

      • +6

Mechanical keyboards (duckys even) can be had for $120. theone4u is asking why he should fork $257 for a keyboard with RGB lights that isn't even on special when those non-RGB mechanical keyboards are available for $130 less?

        • It is niche, not much to say other than it's an RGB keyboard in a limited number run, looks to be limited to 2015 in number, in white and using the slimmer body (Ducky ONE). Other than that the mech keyboard forums/community have a better perception for Ducky mechanical keyboards than razer/logitech/corsair.

        • Got my Ducky from mechkb.com, for $130. They don't seem to stock Ducky anymore, PCCG is always expensive never a bargain :P

    • It's a mechanical keyboard, not your stock membrane keyboard that comes bundled from those retail, pre-built PCs.

wow why so defensive… i'm simply pointing out where the bargain is, a keyboard with lights and to be more specific a "mech keyboard". this is Ozbargain!
where is the comparison to other mech type keyboard, it has lights so what?

I have a laptop and my PC has a simple keyboard that cost $50-$70 and works exactly the same and i can also spill water onto it =)

have fun with your Membrane Keyboard.

    wtf?

Even for mech kb enthusiasts I wouldn't call this a bargain. It's not on sale or anything, and yes rgb mechanical keyboards can be had for cheaper.
In saying that, I have the ducky shine 2 and it's great.

So annoying that it doesn't come in MX Blues :(

  • Looks beautiful, but I prefer my Leopold FC660M B-)

  • I bought a Ducky Shine 5 and it's my first proper mechanical, and it's a fantastic keyboard. If I had the money to spare I would definitely pick up this year of the goat edition. It's about what you'd pay for a boutique keyboarf, I wouldn't consider this a bargain exactly but they're not likely to get any cheaper than this and they are very limited so I'll give this a +ive.

  • Great looking keyboard although I've never found the Year of the … edition any nicer looking than their standard.
And it seems with our dollars dropping, it's more expensive each year.

Not a bargain, and should definitely be in the forums.

But an amazing keyboard, still running my Ducky Shine 3 as my daily driver :)

What does RGB add to the keyboard just pretty lights or does it have other advantages over other mechanical keyboards?

    • +1

      Pretty lights

  • But it's not even discounted? Just because it's the only aussie site that stock it does not make it a bargain. Stick to the subject.
