Givingassistant worth a shot too.. Bought gift card and got 5% cashback, then used the giftcard to make a purchase and got 5% cashback with that also - so double dipping allowed.

(If you have 2 account you'll get 2x $5 sign up bonus also)

    Expires tomorrow though.

guess they are still shipping it all the way over here, just bit more convenient for some people to collect after hours

First time I've seen anything like that! Seems Amazon is really trying to be the forefront of customer service.

  • Strange, why the referral report? :/

I still find it crazy that I bought pretty much the same RAM (4x4GB) for cheaper back in mid/late 2012.

SSD's, GPU's etc. get cheaper but RAM, RAM never changes :P

    • Look at the Camelx3 history I linked to, interesting seeing how much it spiked over the last 3yrs!

    • Not exactly the same ram. Different density RAM chips on these sticks so got to make sure that the motherboard can support 8GB RAM sticks.

Also the fact that RAM hasn't fallen in price may of had some thing to do with the fact of the diving Australian dollar value compared to the United States dollar and also this.

  • This is what i bought a few weeks ago from Amazon when it was about $115 delivered. Took about 2 weeks to arrive through expedited shipping. And then i went to install it and found out that my 2 year old motherboard has a faulty RAM slot so i can't use it until a replacement motherboard arrives from Newegg (Asrock 990FX Extreme6). :(

Nice RAM though seems quite well built and nice looking.

    • My Z77 motherboard just rejected 2 of my RAM slots over the weekend.

Did have 4x4GB, though most of the time I wasn't using them so 8GB total isn't so bad. Sad thing is I have no real use for the other sticks and a replacement motherboard would most likely involve moving to DDR4. My real gripe is the socket changes on CPU's, I wish those would stay static longer. Really nothing wrong with my 2600K i7 CPU, even 4.5 years on.

      • When it comes to CPU sockets the one for AMD (AM3+) has stayed the same for years so it was an easy choice for me and since even the latest AMD chipset motherboards can use DDR3.

        • Good point, that's true about AMD. I did something similar with an older gen AMD, got several years (2 or 3 motherboards) out of it using DDR2.

  • tempting but 8gb vs 16gb for gaming there is no real difference.

    • You can never have enough ram.

      • +1

its all about cost vs benefit…8GB > 16GB isn't noticeable from a gaming or everyday usage perspective.

If I was to build a PC now of course it would have 16GB minimum…just like 8GB was the standard a few years ago.

    • True that. Unless you're playing some horribly unoptimised mess like the latest Batman in which case there are bigger problems such as: "Why the hell would anyone buy that game?"

  • Paid the same for the eBay deal recently for value ram and I am still waiting for it to be delivered via click and collect. Buying from overseas probably would have been better.

About a 2 week delivery (to central Queensland) from Amazon via expedited shipping. Probably about a week and a half to the capital cities.

  • Any deal for DDR4 version? Thanks :)

  • By the way, does anyone know what's behind the RAM prices all dropping now? Like how HDD prices went up after the floods in Thailand in 2011?

    • +1

      Probably DDR4 establishing itself.

DDR3 has been bloated for years, my 4x4GB (16GB) G.Skill Ripjaw 1600's in 2011 remained a bargain for years, I think only in the last 6 months or so has prices dropped below that level. Pretty astonishing for computer parts.

The answer is probably something a lot more in depth than my explanation, though DDR4 could be part of the story.
