Never bought rechargeable batteries before but need some for the Wii mote + LEGO stuff. Could someone give me a few hints? What's a good charger etc. ? Also, what's the difference between the Tropical, Rouge and Chocolate variations of the batteries?
These are the best on the market.. Tones 'ROUGE's are made in Japan, got myself 2x of them click and collet from Macarthur square shopping centre
What am I looking for when getting a good charger?
2 hour charge - "smart" that charges each battery individually based on the charge they have left.

Nope.. Just a dumb charger that overcharges your batteries but has a timer on it so it stops at some point. Still works to charge but will reduce the life of the battery.
Can only charge them in pairs of 2 or 4 :)
Overall its not a big deal if you get 3-5 years use out of the batteries using the family pack dumb charger vs 6-8 with a smart one
I've heard (and seen) very good things about the "SkyRC NC2500" bluetooth charger. About $100 from Hobby Warehouse on eBay. The charger communicates with an app on your phone via bluetooth and does lots of very clever things. Nice!

Those aren't the same batteries. I will never buy Chinese Eneloops again after the failure rates and lack of retaining charge in the Choclats I purchased.
I have been less than impressed with how the Chocolates hold charge too, actually. Using a LaCrosse charger, so I don't think it is the charger (and other batteries from the same charger perform fine). Picked up the 'rouge' from this deal
Absolutely! Used to be $15 every second day for the Chocs or Trops. (Ps. We haven't had Jap ones of those here for quite some time now!)
The pick buy here would be the Rouges (made in Japan)! I would still rather pay $21 for these than $15 for the Chinese Chocs or Trops!

Yep, Rouge are the way to go (Jap ones are definitely better than the Chinese ones… Proven!)
For a charger, the Eneloop quick charger is a good smart charger, otherwise people love the LaCrosse or Maha. Search on here or Google to find the best model names (I can't remember!)
Going to get my allot-ment of eneloops immediately.
