Nikon D3300 Digital SLR with 18-55mm Single VR-II Lens Kit $298 After $100 Cashback @ Officeworks

2140

Well this is embarrassing. Two posts in a row from our old mate theearth. But they're just too good not to post on OzB. So all pride aside, and full credit to the great man. Sale starts Thursday. No idea if it's instore only, or available online in which case delivery should be free.

EDIT: Thanks to the link provided by Firey1989, seems this price is available now with free delivery. Store stock levels should increase Thursday when the catalogue sale officially starts.

full catalogue - product page - date page

Link to Nikon $100 cashback…

Update:

There appears to be issues with their cashback form. They advise the following:

use Other, and the Other and then type in the full name of the store

Officeworks is listed as an authorized seller.

I had that exact reaction when i got the error! but yeah, noticed the number for customer services and the person i spoke to couldn't have been nicer. sounded like shes answered the same question a few times already :P. So as soon as you get passed the "location of purchase" section it leads straight to the personal details and also it requires a copy of the receipt so just get OW to email it to you when you purchase it.

  • Northmead NSW says they had 100 in the morning to start and all of them are pre reserved and sold by 12..may be hard to find any store which has stock

  • After some deliberation(& stalling)I finally tried the camera out today and love it but …Damn… JB refused to price match and OW sold out online now. Maybe the Gods of Ozbargain are telling me to give this deal a miss.

    • Same with me, tried a few people stores jb and harvey Norman both chatswood and gordon, all refused to price match.

      • I wouldn't have been annoyed but the fact that JBHIFI gave me the runaround and said they didn't have any stock when in fact they did, they just didn't want to sell it to me at that price!

  • +6

This might help a few people with jb hifi refusing to match or harvey norman refusing to price match because office works has no stock tell them to price match jb hifi

    http://imgur.com/LjF7Kzx

    • Good to see you got it even cheaper = ($0.04) discount!! True OzB style!

I also managed to get price match at JB even though OW shows no stock - Shout Out to Nooong for a copy of the JB receipt which made it easier to price match.

JB rep told me they would most likely get a company-memo overnight, explaining they must not price match this week so watch out!
      Thanks to all.

    • Thanks. I will try again tomorrow at a different JB with the receipt copy.

  • This one doesn't meter with AI/AIS lenses, right? Histogram only? I've got leftover lenses from the film days.

  • thanks, but is it starting selling from 12pm this thurs? or just officeworks business hours like 9am to 6pm ?
im about to buy in online

  • can anyone suggest a good beginner portrait lens for this camera?

    • +2

      Either the 35mm 1.8 or 50mm 1.8

The 35 is mire versatile but the 50 is more of a classic portrait length (~85mm on full frame )

    • +1

I find longer focal lengths to be better. 70-300 VR is a great reasonably priced tele, and works great as a portrait lens. As happyantix mentioned, for versatility get the 35 or 50 F1.8. 50 is cheaper and does produce better portraits, while 35 will let you take photos at cafes without you getting up on the next table to take photos.

      Edit:
Sigma 30mm F1.4 is a great lens. I have only tried it on a Canon, but they do make it for the Nikon. I had to send in the body to get it calibrated, but once it was calibrated it was super sharp, super versatile, bokehlicious(I mean background blurrying and ok quality bokeh).

  • Amazing deal. Thanks OP!

Get one price matched at HN after work so the final price is:

    $398-$100(Nikon Cashback)-50(Amex HN offer)=$248

    Can't be happier!

  • Got mine and just put the cash back through. Hope I picked the correct receipt number as it's not very obvious.

    • I don't think they will match up receipt numbers.

    • Yeah same, I had a stab at it

  • Thanks TA for this amazing deal. This is the best entry level DSLR available in the market.

  • Does anyone have any suggestions for a good value bag or case to go with this?

  • Hmmm. ?? Scratches head?? RAW files for this camera are .NEF

    Lightroom specs -
    File format exceptions

Lightroom does not support the following types of files: Adobe Illustrator®; Nikon scanner NEF; files with dimensions greater than 65,000 pixels per side or larger than 512 megapixels.

This is kinda crap, would have liked to use Lightroom for edeting

    Any suggestions? Appreciated :-)

    • +1

You should definitely be able to use this in lightroom, nef files from my d610 work for me

      • Lightrrom does support .NEF files. You just have to install camera raw updates from Adobe.

      • Used it on D800 too.

  • I ordered about 8.20am in the morning and mine got delivered at about 5.00pm. Really happy about the purchase. For this price camera is a steal. Doesn't anyone in NSW got their orders delivered?

    • +1

Ordered at 7am, got it around 3pm. Brand new package.

  • Got one at OW East Victoria Park on the way home - they had a couple left

I'll claim TSA in January or I may put it through my limited company - I do take photos when I undertake site work

    Thanks TA

  • Remeber to register your Nikon gear, to get 2 years warranty.

  • My copy seems pretty good. Anyone getting front or back focusing?

    • What?

      • The camera seems good. Seems to have accurate focusing with my lenses.

  • Too bad , I want to buy this camera so bad. Cannt buy it online and no stores in Sydney have stock left . If anybody knows where to get it in Sydney or if somebody can get it for me , I can pay the postage :(

  • picked one up at QV Harvey Norman yesterday. Happy to price match and was able to use the $50 Amex HN cashback so happy with that!

    • I wonder how you get the $50amex cash back?

      • The HN Amex offer was posted before

        https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/217148

        • thanks. it look s like the offer has expired :(((

        • @cxq: Well if you didn't register your AMEX card at that time then you won't be able to use it now.

        • @babysmile: Thanks for letting me know. Lesson learned!

  • +3

Lol, OW have removed this camera from their website.
Hope they bring it back for their catalogue sale. I missed out due to waiting to hear from my 'financial controller'. Had it in the cart all ready and available. Dammit :-)

    • +4

It is better to seek forgiveness than ask permission.

      • In hindsight agreed.

  • I found this lens that looks alright for beginners if anyone is interested.

    http://www.dwidigitalcameras.com.au/astore/Nikon-AF-70-300mm…

Happy for someone to tell me NOT to buy it if it's not going to be very good.

    • It would be ok in good light but terrible in low light, and for $150 its probably all round pretty average, but for beginners it will be a good start

    • I hear the ED version 70-300 is good. I dunno if this one is that one. I think the ED version is F4.5-5.6. I would get the VR version. 300mm without VR hand held shooting is hit and miss.

    • This lens will not auto-focus on the d3300, that's a big no no

  • Website link removed =(

    • Hope it will be back again tomorrow….. I've asked a friend working at OW to look out for me. I guess she can get an additional 15% discount??? That would be great.

  • Thanks OP - got mine from Castle Hiss store yesterday

  • Got jb hifi to price match. Managed to get another 7% off by buying gift cards.

  • Does anyone have a picture from the catalogue ? Or at least a screenshot from the OW website before it was taken down. Would be helpful to show and try to pricematch at other stores.

  • +1

Thanks TA Now. just need to find good SD card deal

  • I just called OW, and the lady said that it was a clearance item, and since it has been taken off the website, it means it has been completely exhausted nation-wide.
    Dare I say, OW ozbargained?

    • Best thing to do is find a original OW cataloue and try price match with couple of stores

  • +2

I tried to price match with a JB in Maribyrnong and they said no chance. I asked why it was ok for Sydney and the response back was that they most likely shouldn't have. He did check with the manager as well and it was a firm no on both fronts and that was with a copy of the receipt with me from one of the guys who did get the price match from Sydney.

So I went to TGG and asked them. I had a catalogue from OW in hand with the camera clearly shown and they checked the website. The fact that the item is no longer online means TGG I went to won't play ball. Its annoying because Google came up with the link, the price, the item number etc and all was spot on. Unfortunately clicking on the link went nowhere and so TGG said no to a price match as well.

Oh well, clearly wasn't meant to be.

    • I feel your frustration. I had two chances to buy this camera and missed out due to hesitation.

    • I was able to get JB Brighton Vic to price match against the Sydney receipt. Happy to send u my receipt (will be subtle with the blank-out). Let me know.

      • Thanks mate, didn't see your reply but have done now.

I can always try again I suppose given that more JB's seem to be price matching.

  • Just got JB price match!
West Gosford OW still have stock available so if the JB rep ask whether the stock is still available, just ask them to check with the OW at gosford.

  • OW has removed the item from their website. So sad, transferred money yesterday wanting to buy it online today but now its gone! Hopefully it'll come back tomorrow when the catalogue is due to start.

  • Got JB Hi-Fi to match it, happy days

    • which one?

      • +1

I went to JB Merrylands and the guy laughed and said "no chance". The fact that the digital receipt had whiteout through it made him led to believe that I somehow 'doctored' or manipulated it. I really hate JB hifi right now.

        • They are a business after all; they're probably making a loss on the product.

        • @anthonettex: I've got no sympathy for them. If they want to have a price match policy then they must honour it and apply it consistently.

        • Actually JB Hi-Fi don't have a price match policy at all, it's at the staff's choice. If they want to they can, if not… I agree that's pretty dumb.

Also I got it price matched at JB Hi-Fi Caringbah

        • @anthonettex: When I went to Maribyrnong they guy I spoke to mentioned 43% under. Not sure exactly what that related to but they were somewhat surprised when I said that Sydney matched the price.

Of course, could all (likely) be the standard salesman patter that they all generally follow.

        • +1

Hey, you seem to be having a bad span of luck, which JB's have you tried so far?

I went to the one at Pitt St, in westfields.

          Few reasons for that:

          • They are generally quiet and squatting flies, because hardly much people make the effort to go to that JB, when there's one downstairs at the strand.
          • For the quiet aspect, they tend to want any sale for the sake of it, so are more happy to price match
          • If you catch them during a quiet time of the day, then it works well too, like I went in the morning around 10 or so.
        • @squaredonut: North Sydney and Merrylands. I give up.

        • @wolfenator87:

lol that's only two, try one or two more, you might get lucky?

        • @squaredonut: It's a bit hard to argue a point when the advert has been pulled from the OW website and is no longer in stock. I'm still kicking myself silly for not purchasing it online on Monday morning when I had the chance. Outlaying $400 on a camera made me hesitant and I like to do lots of research before buying.

  • The Nikon D3300 isn't even showing on the Officeworks website now, was there last night - confused!

  • +1

Shall I go to the nearest available OW shop at 8am tomorrow morning and buy a camera straight away?

    • thats what im planing on doing

  • Price matched at rundle mall jb hifi, but the dude said cash back is only for full price products.

    • +2

I dont see why it would matter if it is full priced or not, it's not like the retailer dishes out the cashback, it's Nikon, and JB hifi has already paid for the stock that theyre selling

edit: Just got off the phone with Nikon, and they said that OW and any one currently under the authorised reseller page is eligible for the promotion, no matter what price it was sold for. Was also suggested to write an email to them if I wanted written confirmation, which hopefully I get some time tmr.

    • No, that can't be right. An example is Digital Camera Warehouse (Northcote, Vic) who advertise cheaper than RRP have this one advertised on their website, stating that the $100 Nikon Cashback applies.

Yesterday, JB Hi-Fi had the $100 cash back promotion posters up in their camera section too - and that's not full price either.

  • Tried to price match at both JB and Big W.

JB Hifi wouldn't price match even after showing them the catalogue and receipts that other JB stores have done it as it "could be a misprint on OW part" or the fact that we don't know the circumstance of how others got that price as the JB staff could have hit their car… So pretty disappointing there! But Big W rejected to price match as well because they had a red one in stock and the catalogue showed a black one lol..

  • How did people get hold of the catalog early? They normally aren't put out in stores till Thursdays?

    • I'm sure it generally slips a day or two. It's probably hard for the people who deliver the catalogues to be able to do it all on the Thursday morning.

    • I deliver pamphlets and got this on Sunday. Have to deliver them no earlier than Tuesday and no later than today. So everyone on my run got them deliverd yesterday.

    • In the junk mail with all the other catalogues

      • I never get them in my letterbox.

        • I live not far from a shopping centre so always get these catalogues without fail. Sometimes they put a double lot and jam my letterbox.

  • Just picked one up at my local OW. $398.
Completed the cash back form already

Was another ozbargainer there same time picking another one up!

    • What area?

      • Too far from Melbourne

        • Bugger!

  • +1

Got one price matched at HN Cannington :)

  • $398- $100 cashback - $19.9 paywave reward from mebank - $36.18 TRS refund = $241.92, what a bargain!

    • Are you traveling overseas within 30 days? Don't think TRS apllies otherwise.

      • 60 days

      • Yes.

        • I'am Australian resident planning to travel oversea for a month (within 60days) am i eligible for Tourist Refund Scheme? it does say tourist……
my friend also recently bought a samsung galaxy s6 plus 64g from a local store but grey import would i be entitle to claim that as well?

        • @OhMaJuck:

          Yes you are.

Grey import no because there is no GST component on the invoice.

  • +1

Tried price matching in 5 different JB all around melbourne and Office works seems to be out of stock and have taken it off the site should this be an expired deal >???
