Surface Pro 4 Type Cover $163 @ Harvey Norman after $25 Voucher

120

Not a bad deal for someone looking to get an SP4 or wanting to upgrade their SP3 type cover with a new one. Price on MS Store website is $199.95 - even with a student discount it still ends up being $180.

Weak AUD makes the new SP4 super unaffordable right now but if you're gonna buy it might as well save a few bucks.

Sh!t. Must be a really good keyboard for RRP$199.

It's called "MS Proprietary BS" :P
I don't understand why they didn't add fingerprint reader to any other models other than the US model.
That said, SP4 without a keyboard wouldn't be as good. There would other options out there, but I think SP4 with a keyboard cover is better (portability wise and connectivity wise (bluetooth keyboards still aren't perfect and using USB would mean you lose one port (unless you buy a USB hub which is worse for portability)).

      • Yes overpriced for the look and feel, I've typed on the SP1,SP2,SP3 with the cover keyboard and laugh at the price they ask for them.

I've got a 3 but bought it for a really good price 6 months ago. I like the surface itself but the type cover definitely feels flimsy. I guess on a positive note, you can just replace it with a new one.

I bought mine from jb and even haggled the type cover quite low.

Fingerprint reader isn't required on SP4 as it uses Windows Hello instead.

        • More for the people who want to use Windows Hello on the SP3.

I have the SP3 and the SP3 keyboard is good (I like it) but the touch pad is baaaad. Was thinking of an SP4 keyboard (it fits on an SP3) but that price… yeah :( The good news for anyone wanting an SP3 cover is the flood on ebay at cheap prices :)

The Smart Keyboard for iPad is RRP$269, and doesn't have a trackpad. So it can't be as good as that!

    • There are 3rd party keyboard that goes with SP3/4 (even connects to it) but they are all Bluetooth. Only the official one uses power from the tablet, others need to be recharged. So, MS get to charge what they like :( It's still cheaper than iPad Pro keyboard at least.

My SP3 comes with a bundled type cover and I like it a lot more than my old Zenbook keyboard. And if I ever spill coffee or anything it's not too expensive to replace.

Got it, thanks. The new touchpad is waaay better than the old one.

    • Agree. I picked up my SP4 keyboard yesterday and very happy with it. My SP3 actually feels like a new machine even though it is just the keyboard. Maybe it is also with upgrading to Windows 10 a few weeks ago.

      • Got the basic SP3 from the Exeltek deal here a couple of months ago. Didn't want to spend too much considering what I'm buying the SP3 for.
Extremely happy with it. Held off from buying the SP3 typecover from my local store because they didn't have the colour I wanted.
Then, a short while later, the SP4 gets announced, and it's way out of my budget. So I'm happy with my SP3 purchase - have been using it just with the pen.
The new typecover also gets announced and the reviews are fantastic by all reports.
So have just picked up the blue SP4 typecover, and it's fantastic! Very nice to type on indeed. I was happy to pay close to RRP$199 (maybe just bargain them down a few bucks…), so $163 is great!

Now, where does one put the surface pen when they have the SP3 and the SP4 type cover?

  • Yay, stacked with the amex $50 offer.
