Can't even be bothered reading the text let alone doing what it's asking.

I made it to level 2 before getting bored.

      This post was procrastination :)

One day you could realise the most important commodity in your life is Time.

Can't do this shit, but would love free 1TB. :(

    • +3

Is there such a thing as a free 1TB….

As Dire Straits once said, "Got you're money for nothing and your chicks for free".

No idea if that comment is any way relevant.

      • +2

        It might have been

"Get your money for nothin' get your chicks for free" - DIRE STRAITS

        • +1

Lemme tell ya, them guys ain't dumb

  • +4

Would do it if the upgrade was for life time. Got unlimited Google drive from uni anyway.

    • Is there anyone with a 1TB lifetime option? even for a once-off fee?

  • +1

How/where do I check for the points?

    • "FYI: You can earn points on any platform, but at this stage I believe you can only check your point level on the latest Android app."

      • Does one plus one count?

        • I think it is the standard Google Maps app. So you should be fine

        • @BluBoy: sorry, but where exactly can I look for the points? Where does it show up?

        • @cheapocheapo: Shows it displaying points in this video, but I can't seem to find it.

        • +1

@awoff1: On an iPhone at least it's in the sidebar menu under "Your contributions" make sure you're up to date.

        • @stickyfingers: Thanks, can see it on iOS. On andriod within "Your places" I can see number of reviews, ratings and photos but not the points.

        • @awoff1: I assumed I was up to date with maps app in android, but I wasnt. Check in the play store.

        • @maharius: I updated on andriod when I saw this post, doesn't show another update atm. Able to see points?

        • +1

@awoff1: you need to install the latest update, which is not available to everyone yet via the google play store.

        • That's a device. The platform is android.

I took the easy way to get 1tb free for 2 years.

    I brought a ChromeOS.

    • +18

Sounds interesting, where did you bring it to?

      • Brought locally and on Amazon. Not sure if they still have those deals though.

        • +4

I think @BTRaynes is saying you bought a ChomeOS [device] which brought you 1TB free for 2 years.

        • @BluBoy: maybe he means, bought on Amazon and was brought in locally by a local courier guy?? and after that, the ChromeOS brought him 1TB free fir 2 years?

        • @BluBoy:

          Yes!

We have 2 ChromeOS devices so far. Both offered free space. Wife doesnt use hers but mine has been most welcomed.

          @googoogaga:

Maybe he got it but just doesn't GAF, spelling police are so tedious.

        • @stonkered:

Nope, I still dont understand what @BTRaynes said, although @Bluboy made sense.

        • @boogaloo:

The important thing is you got your free 1tb.

        • @stonkered:

          Yes!

        • @boogaloo:

          Hehe :)

  • you had me asleep at level 1….

  • +1

    Is anyone gonna try this?

Cause I will, but only if nobody else is, because then I can be unique.

  • -1

    I'm beyond levels :D

    Unlimited free storage for life.

  • -3

This would be a good project for computer savvy Indian students who have the patience and ability to do it. That said, the infrastructure over there is not very conducive to cloud storage (probably not much worse than Australia though)

  • Wouldnt be possible to do most of those since events will be american based only i'm sure

    • +1

Considering there are plenty of international references in the examples, I highly doubt that:

Nothing in this world is 'free', 1 TB for a reason ;)

  • Just had a look, and not really worth it for only 2 years, alot of work really

    • +1

1TB for 2 years is $240 from Google, so could be worth it to some people.

      • yes, but it worth nothing if you can't even fill up that 1TB within 2yrs, i.e i've got an unlimited OneDrive storage from Microsoft, it's been a year, and i'm having automatic camera roll uploaded to it from my phone and PC, recently i backed up my songs collection (nearly 10,000 songs) but until now, they space occupied barely half of a TB..

        • +1

After you fill it up then your stuck to having to buy to keep the space, otherwise you need to find somewhere to move it all

        • @asa79:

Bingo! The first hit is free kid. Well free if you're willing to do 2 years of work to get your 2 years.

  • Well, a 1 TB portable HD is $69. If this takes any longer than 4 hours, you're better off working for minimum wage ($17.29).

    • +1

Dunno if I would make that comparison TBH. With 1TB of online space, you get WAY more redundancy than with a portable HDD.

  • +2

1 - Have fun uploading 1Tb of stuff on our true blue aussie internet

2 - This is how they get you hooked. Once they've got a fair amount of your data, they know that people would rather pay for it to keep being hosted as opposed to manually migrate it to another service (or download it again).

Tere is actually quite a large chance that in 2 years they'd be offering 1TB for free anyway..

  • Heres my usage so far, notice the 1tb freebie which is way too much for me. http://postimg.org/image/jtim5j5k9/

  • -2

Google drive 1 tb a month is $10 btw. I think that maybe us$, so thats around $13au a month. Where does the OP figure come from.

    • +2

      Maths.

    • +2

      24 months x US$10 = US$240 = ~AU$336.75.

      • +2

        2 years, my bad.

        Will minus my post.

ooh, i see I cant do that.

  • -5

OHAI COME DO SOME SOME FREE WORK FOR GOOGLE FOR SOME WORTHLESS COMPLETELY ABSTRACT AWARD THAT NO ONE CARES ABOUT> YAY |o?

  • +1

Too many jobs for temporary 1 TB! It is not worth it :D

  • +1

in before gumtree ads for 1TB google drive for $150 pops up

  • +1

Anyone have link to where it says the 1TB is only for 2 years? Can't seem to find that reference anywhere. Seems to be a straight up 1TB expansion… if only I guess…

It says "upgrade Google drive storage for free" without even mentioning the size and duration.
Would like to know where OP got the details

        • +1

I hunted but found nothing. Thanks for that link jm!

2 years…. no point me breaking my back as i have 46GB free now, so to make use of the 1TB, i need to bust 46GB first.. and then in 2 years i'll be stuffed…

oh well… maybe just do it in my spare time at work anyway, just for the fun of it :) After all it does make the overall google maps product that much better! I'm a big consumer of all their products haha

  • Hire someone overseas to do it for you, Will that way be cheaper to do and achieve the levels ?

Could be a huge bargain, Just get some Mechanical Turks to do it ?

Are the reviews public / tied to your public id. ?
