      IN STOCK
      Order Now to ship Tomorrow

  • I'm getting 34.99 + ~12 postage = $47USD

  • Merci

    • pleasure

      • Ahh… You were referring to standard remote option… I'm lazy… I want voice… Still cheap

        • Voice only works for searching Amazon content, so it's kind of pointless (I have a Fire). If only. It was a universal search like on the Roku.

        • @CanadaAye: thanks

  • Seems good!

I bought a fire tv stick awhile back with my 'wedding' registry gift card from Amazon. Absolutely love the stick. While it does not have the Google play store you can sideload apps to it. One app I recommend includes the PlayStation remote play app (had no lag or issues). The other positive is that I use it with smart DNS to stream different regions of Netflix. These are just two uses that made me get this over a chromecast!

Cannot recommend enough :) tempted to get a second. Great deal! Note that Amazon won't ship it here so best to get it elsewhere or use a shipping forwarder.

Do you need to subscribe to Netflix or is it free/hacked into device

    • No hassles with Netflix? i.e. on the chromecast to stream Netflix USA in addition to Getflix you need to use a specific older version of Netflix APP on the device your casting from.

      • +1

        much easier on this

    • Does the fire stick support smart dns by itself or i still have to muck around with my router?

      • -1

Use your router but its worth the effort
edit - depends what modem u have - I have optus and useless modem so had to use router ;-) hope this helped

      • +1

Fire TV software allows you to change DNS at device level, so no need to go back to your router.

  • Isn't it usd 24.99+shipping now on Amazon?

    • Won't let me ship to australia via Amazon though :(

    • Amazon won't ship this to Aus..deadheat in post

  • any different from chromecast?

    • +2

      Very.

      • care to elaborate?

        • AKAIK its more like a media player rather than a 'caster'.

  • -2

Anyone dealt with this Mob.. What is there support like? Cost more to ship back to America if there's an issue… For price though maybe worth the risk..

They are a well respected and well known (mainly camera) dealer. Their New York store is one of the largest in the U.S.

      • +1

        Stuff it.. I'll order

    • Great store. Whilst in the US, I bought a lens, but thought the better of it, and got it returned no questions asked.

    • Well respected, good prices, great range, good service. I've spent over 20K with them and never had any issues.

They recently copped a whole bunch of flack for exploiting their warehouse workers in much the same way all the other big online warehouses do.

    • -2

Thanks for the neg…I needed that..ahhh

  • Is this as widely supported as Chromecast?

  • +2

    So… Kodi?

    • +2

Yes, that's the whole point of getting this unless somehow you are subscribed Amazon prime member.

      • +1

Do you know how well it runs kodi?

        • It runs Kodi as well as anything on the market basically. I have a FireTV, FireTV Stick, jailbroken Apple TV2, Celeron NUC, and a Raspberry Pi all with Kodi/XBMC installed, and I use the FireTV Stick over all of them. Even on wifi it handles everything I throw at it without any dramas. Highly, highly recommend it for Kodi use.

        • @MrFunSocks:
Have you tried the Navi-X addon? Does it run well?

I am currently using a Windows tablet from the Unisurf deal a couple of months ago and it run it well. I just want to downsize it.

        • @jobski: I haven't, hadn't heard of it before but after googling just now I might install it tonight and see how it goes. Will let you know.

      • I have Amazon prime and their Prime video content is mostly worthless (though other prime benefits are v good). This is a worthy successor to the unlocked Apple tv 2 for a low cost Kodi appliance.

    Shame no OTG.

Better then latest Apple TV and the super Mega NEW chrome cast? Sorry I'm pretty noob here with these devices.

    • The Chromecast and FireTV stick are different things. The Chromecast requires another device to push data to it, it has no standalone functionality, whereas the FireTV Stick has apps that you can use to play games and stream videos etc.

The new Apple TV won't get Kodi, so that automatically makes it useless to a non-iphone user like me.

  • +1

easy to get US netflix on. Not a major stuff around like chromecast

  • Comes to ~A$54 using paypal

  • bummer, no HEVC/X265… it's got me looking at stuff like this though… http://www.geekbuying.com/item/MXIII-PRO-Android-TV-BOX-Amlo…

    • Get either the Amlogic s812 or cheaper (but slower) s805 - these have hardware hevc/x265 support and run openelec or kodi on Android perfectly. Absolutely bargains, been using these little boxes for years now…

      • can you recommend any of s905 boxes? 10bit hevc support. I think i'm gonna have to wait a few months… they seem to be in there infancy

        • Definitely look like a good spec but the thing with these cheap little boxes is they're only as good as the community support surrounding them. The Amlogic boxes up to the S812 are all quite similar with established and fairly open kernels/drivers from the chipset manufacturers. Don't know much about the s905 but it looks like it'll be a while till you'll see solid builds of Kodi Android or Openelec - seems like a different beast. Haven't looked into them much though. My last MXQ (s805) cost about $40 off Aliexpress and plays all of my HEVC perfectly so far. I've sold each box for what I paid each year a new one has come out (started with the old M3 a few years back)…

  • +1

can someone please shed some light why is this a Chromecast killer? (other than the specs, i think it is also about usability/functionality in Australia)

    • Here is the Guide to installing Kodi on Amazon Fire TV Stick

Kodi® (formerly known as XBMC™) is an award-winning free and open source (GPL) software media center for playing videos, music, pictures, games, and more. Kodi runs on Linux, OS X, Windows, iOS, and Android, featuring a 10-foot user interface for use with televisions and remote controls. It allows users to play and view most videos, music, podcasts, and other digital media files from local and network storage media and the internet.

      • thank you..btw, does anyone ever go to bed? of course apart from me..

    • It's a different class of device than the Chromecast.

Chromecast needs you to push data to it via a mobile phone or tablet. It can't do anything by itself. This lets you install apps like Netflix, Kodi, Hulu, Plex, etc as well as games.

  • Can this wirelessly screencast Windows, Mac, Android? I'd like to use it to screencast movie/steam games/presentation to LCD ; especially during business trip, where I don't need to bring HDMI cable

    • The specs say:

      Wi-Fi: 802.11 a/b/g/n dual-band, dual-antenna (MIMO)

      Bluetooth: Type: 3.0
      Profile: HID, SPP

But I think bluetooth might only be for operating via it's own remote control - or - via a remote control app on a smartphone. I think Wi-Fi is the streaming connection.

So if the device/computer has Wi-Fi - then yes.

      • Including screencast steam games?

  • If you plug this into a HDMI-to-RCA adapter (for old TVs that use red & white audio, and yellow video) - will it work?

  • Had one for almost a year now and it's great. Use it for Plex, Netflix and Amazon video.

Only complaint is that the remote is a bit fragile (mine has taken a few hard drops and the buttons don't click back into place anymore so they sit in the remote loosely).

    • Ha… That might be a problem…I can't believe my LG and Logitech remotes still work… My kids use them as lightsabers when they argue…chips on them, scratches… My youngest thinks she's Obi Wan Kenobi

      • +4

        Practice everyday she must…

For anyone using KODI, I highly recommend having a look at Emby media server to manage your library and content. Its a bit like Plex server, but a lot more configurable and plays a lot nicer with Kodi integration. Makes it easy to manage multiple kodi devices and have a centrally managed library on the Emby server, meaning you can easily start your shows on one kodi device, resume on another, and also access it all remotely anywhere you go.

    • Thank you, I did not know about it. I will give it a go as I always like the idea that I can get involved in open sourced projects although I do not always do.

  • Went through the checkout process with PayPal, then right at the end PayPal wouldn't allow the transaction, so gave it a miss.

  • I was looking at making a HTPC for Kodi on a raspberry pi 2. Obviously this Fire is plug and play but does it have any other obvious advantages that anyone wouldn't mind divulging?
I usually use the PS3 for Netflix and Hulu but if they can be rolled into one that would be brilliant and allow my PS3 to be free to play games as it was originally intended.

  • How does this compare to the Chromecast for things like PLEX?

    • +1

Has a dedicated Plex App, so you don't need to use your phone to choose what you want to cast to the chromecast. You just use the app. Much better for plex than the chromecast.

  • Just so people are aware, Netflix on my Fire TV Stick stutters like crazy. Not sure why, I think it was introduced with one of the updates. So possibly a bug, but appears to be quite a widespread problem with both Netflix and Plex apps. Managed to minimise the stuttering by forcing my tv to 1080p/50Hz if that helps anyone who encounters this problem.

  • How well does the remote work, has no USB ports for a Airmouse? and can it be powered from the USB on the TV or separate power? (TV I'm thinking of using it for is Wall mounted).

    • +1

Remote works well enough, uses Bluetooth so no IR, but the nav has a cheap 'clicky' feel. As long as your TV supplies enough power to the USB port, you should be fine. Works on one of my TV's but displays a warning on startup that it may be insufficient, other TV it doesn't work and needs to be plugged in.

    • +1

Remote works very well. Bluetooth so doesn't require line of sight, has all the buttons for Kodi functionality like context menu etc.

It can be powered by the USB on the TV, that's how mine is powered. Every now and then it will say it doesn't have enough power on startup, but that warning disappears as quick as it appears and it works perfectly.

      • Thanks guys hopefully I can find one of these on eBay seems like the perfect item to buy with my voucher I need to use this weekend.

  • Hmmm - good luck finding one of these on ebay at anything like this price. Stuff-it, just pulled the trigger. Hope to replace my original raspberry pi/Kodi setup to play movies from network NAS set-up amongst other things. Thanks OP for tempting me to spend more $$$ with a good deal!

    • Hope to replace my original raspberry pi/Kodi setup to play movies from network NAS set-up amongst other things.

Exactly what I did and I couldn't be happier.

  • how longs this for ?

  • If you wanted to bring this on the road (eg. hotel) and use it with Kodi to connect to a USB hard drive full of movies, how would you do it?

  • Checkout is unavailable for the next 19 hours? WTF?!

  • Received mine, and had a decent play. This is a cool device that is made even better by side loading Kodi (makes it easier to play media off my NAS).
Good instructions are found here: http://www.tweaking4all.com/home-theatre/xbmc/kodi-on-amazon…

  • Still not received mine, have emailed them and they tell me it's not released until next year! I ordered the voice version.
