    DAT graphic card……

You are better off taking it off and just use the intel integrated HD530.

    • Yes it is pretty pathetic but on the bright side a GTX 960 or similar thermal card could be used

      • I bet the stock PSU isnt big enough for a GTX960.

        • It says it comes with a 460W PSU. 6700 + 960 would only use around 200W

        • Yeah it should be adequate with a 460 watt psu, i even read on some forums of ppl adding a 970 in it no OC though stock settings with no problems.

      • +3

You could get MSY to build you the same computer with a GTX 960 for this price.

        • +4

Totally agree. Even with the 20% discount and 3% cashback, this is not a great deal. Rubbish GPU, questionable PSU, no SSD.

Most users have no need of an i7 processor <edit..> - not sure what kind of user would benefit from this system configuration - without a decent GPU it's not great for photo or video editing; the GPU is garbage for games; even heavy spreadsheet/office setups really should have an SSD for good performance. It's really a rubbish configuration.

You can do much better with a custom box from any number of local shops, or build your own.

        • @klaw81: I think its 2x4gb RAM, not 24.. Minor correction though. Your point still stands IMO.

        • @simulacrum: Whoops, thanks. Fixed above.

    • +1

seeing as it'll probably be used in an office environment, it'll work fine for multiple displays or the casual games at home

      • +3

True,as i have suggested. The intel HD530 has more processing power than the GT730 and it supports 4 screens at the same time. Using the GT730 is just a waste of power.

        • +12

it comes with a nvidia sticker which makes it all worthwhile

        • +6

@Gimli: you're headed for jv status

        • +2

The motherboard in this computer only has 2 video out ports, if you wanted to use 3-4 monitors you need the GPU for more ports.

Dell customer service is horrible in Australia

    • +1

i have found it to be the best. ymmv

      • +2

Theirs is horrible it's just that others (PC makers) don't have any.

      • No Dell is terrible.

HP has fallen in standards but it's still not as bad as the Merry-Go-Round of cluelessness that is Dell Customer Support.

Had a retarded experience last month when an XPS 13 arrived with Win 8.1 Home and I requested Win 8.1 Pro.
I was first told there's absolutely no chance of a hardware exchange to simply swap my XPS 13 (still brand-new with original packaging) for one with Win 8.1 Pro.
(OA Win 8.1 Product Keys are embedded in the BIOS/Motherboard so an entirely new laptop is required as simply reinstalling the OS will keep retrieving the same Win 8.1 Home key from the BIOS.)
Then I was told there's no chance of getting a simple Win 8.1 Pro upgrade key.
Then I was told to refund my current XPS 13, wait several weeks for processing and the money to land back into my account and make a new XPS 13 order.

Then Customer Care contacted me and offered a hardware exchange on the spot after a week of being told Dell can't do hardware exchanges for XPS 13s.

A warm thank you to the excellent inter-organisational communication of Dell Support.

Dell Pro support bend over backwards to help / resolve issues in the shortest possible time.

Dell consumer support as stated below, are a bunch of clueless monkeys..

        • +2

Dell Pro support bend over backwards to help / resolve issues in the shortest possible time.

          Sometimes.

Other times you speak to 3-5 different "SMEs" and they still can't fix your problem. In my experience HP provides both good consumer and enterprise support consistently.

      • Me too!

    • Personally they have been very good to me when I have needed things replaced or fixed they have done it happily with no issues

  • Just purchased this and then saw it here. Always nice to know I purchased a bargain :)

DON'T FORGET: CashRewards 3% cashback or Qantas Mall currently offers 4pts/$

  • Can I add an SSD drive to this system? Also, can the GPU output 4k monitor? Thanks.

    • +1

Yes, and yes. I'm not 100% sure of the GT730 supporting full 4K, however the onboard HD 530 graphics should do the job fine for basic tasks-it's actually more powerful than the GT730.

      • Thanks, so the HD530 can output 4k monitor, can't it? Also, if I decide to add an SSD, which one should I buy? I really hate the hard drive because it care about the performance, not the storage capability. I am thiking to upgrade to 16gb ram, another GPU and a 256 SSD to this system. I do alot photoshop and illustrator so I definitely need a better GPU. Thanks for your help.

        • +2

If you're thinking to upgrade the system I'd highly recommend building something yourself. I don't think the motherboard on this system has 2 slots for multi GPU support, and the power supply certainly won't handle it. Better quality, value, and longer warranty.

  • How much would it be if compared with sourcing individual parts?

    • +7

Individual, with most parts having 2+ year warranties, would come to around 1120 with a R7 360 (Completely demolishes the GT 730 included with the Dell).

      From MSY:

      • i7 6700 = $458
      • Windows 10 Home OEM = $135
      • B150M Asus motherboard = $106
      • 1TB WD Blue = $69
      • 8G RAM = $58
      • Antec VSK3-500 Case+ 500W PSU = $79
      • LiteOn DVD writer = $17
      • Microsoft Wireless Desktop 800 = $24
      • N300 Wireless adapter (Tenda) = $11
      • R7 360 (Asus/Gigabyte/Sapphire) = $159
        =$1116 Total
      • Windows 10 Home $0 $135
        LiteOn DVD writer = $17
        Used R9 270 $140-150 R7 360 (Asus/Gigabyte/Sapphire) = $159

      • For safe comparison, list the price of a 610 (around $40), so ~$1k total.

Though yeah, I'd still go with a 360 or something. 610/730/any GT are terrible.

      • 8g kit 2133 RAM starts at $69 not $58.

The other thing to consider is MSY charges a credit card fee. Paying for the Dell with a premium credit card will extend your warranty and give you about $10 worth of frequent flyer/reward points.

        • Keep in mind the R7 260 is around $70 more than the GT730, so if you switch back to that, it still works out cheaper.

  • Better off with the refurb laptop a few posts back.. Better graphics card, is a laptop (so portable, includes 4k touchscreen+keyboard) and still has an i7 within about 15% performance of this one… And over $300 cheaper..

    • Don't think the refurbished one had 4k screen. Think it had FHD.

    • If you were swinging between laptop and desktop, sure. But some things are just better with a desktop, and they do have their advantages (upgrades, for one).

  • Would appreciate an opinion on this unit? Thanks.
    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Dell-XPS-8700-4th-Gen-Core-i7-479…

    • +2

Short answer: overpriced, even with 20% discount. Same goes for all of the other Dell systems.

My advice - don't buy desktop systems from OEMs like HP, Dell etc. You can get much better value from PCCG, MSY, Umart or similar.

  • Has anyone installed ESX on this? Successful?

  • While this machine includes an M.2 PCIE slot, it appears to only supply 1 PCIE lane instead of 4, reducing the maximum speed of an SSD significantly to around 800MBps. Since it is fairly new, this may be BIOS or configuration issue but it is disappointing.
