Telstra - $70 BYO and Casual Plan Now Gives 10GB Data Per Month

160

Just got emailed this from a mate that works for a telstra affiliate.

"From today, when you take up a Go Mobile $70 BYO or Casual plan we’ll now give you 4GB of Bonus Data. Add this to the 6GB of included data allowance and that’s a total of 10GB each month."

This apparently applies to New, Recontracting and even just changing your current non-contracted Telstra plan to it.

edit: So prior to today, the $70 BYO and Casual gave only 7GB I believe. Also for new customers the $10/month discount still applies when on a BYO plan.

  • Need link to page where deal can be seen ie telstra.com

  • Isn't the current casual month to month plan already $70 with 7GB + 3GB bonus?
And the BYO 12 month $70 down to $60 with 10GB?

  • +1
    • $60 on a 12 month contract. $70 casual

  • This apparently applies to New, Recontracting and even just changing your current non-contracted Telstra plan to it.

i usually just assume that companies never look after loyal customers but if this applies to anyone then that is really good.

  • Out of interest, I just tried my number (existing customer) and it doesn't work. I called the sale team, and they advised that the $60 price and 10GB only applies to new customers transferring a number. I don't know if their back end system has updated properly, or if they are just using really misleading advertising… (just like the last BYO M deal).

    • Correct!

I've had a dispute running for a few weeks around this. Technically the $60/mth deal is for new customer only, however some people have been told that they are eligible. After lodging a complaint, I got the $60/mth applied to my account, although technically I wasn't entitled to it, being an existing BYO M customer (still in contract too).

      YMMV though!

      • I had problems with the last BYO M deal ($200 bonus credit, $50 and 7GB Data). Right from the start they admited that the T&C were misleading ("New and recontracting customers are eligible"). Telstra even changed the T&C's halfway through the promotion to make them clearer. In any case, my wife's phone is now on the BYO M deal with 7GB after a lot of back-and-forth. I wasn't expecting the $200 welcome credit, but they applied that too. What a waste of time and effort though.
With all these deals from different telco's lately, I've decided no more post paid plans for me. Once my contract runs out I won't be recontracting with Telstra. Being an existing customer seems to never result in any good deals or treatment (the phones don't seem to be discounted anymore either, especially iPhones). You're better to jump around every 6 months, constantly getting showered in extra data, welcome credit, etc, etc… /rant

        • The plans do seem to be getting more and more competitive every 3-4months! I was only 4 mths into this plan before this better one came along. Unfortunately for me, Telstra is the only provider I get decent mobile service in my home so I don't have a choice but to go with them.

        • @downforce: That's my main problem too, I need Telstra for speed and coverage where I am. Makes swtiching a pain.

        • 24 month contracts…..youve got to be kidding.

Prepaid offer better deals than fixed contract.

    • I signedup and the chat person said it will appear at the standard price and when the contract is processed it will show the true $60.

Saved the chat log so wait and see when the order is processed.

I moved from Casual month-to-month to this and was told 'Its A-Ok'

    • I pushed the rep and said I would port out to Optus if they didn't let me change my current plan. Transferred to another person who made the change to the $60/10GB plan without a problem in the world.

      • Well that's good to know. I might just have to argue a bit harder. Thanks.

    • As per my post at the bottom. Telstra staff have been telling me I can take a 'new' service and get the good deal then transfer my current phone number over to the new service and cancel my current BYO.

  • I just got off the 24/7 chat, I can also confirm $60 is for new customers only and existing customer can re-contract or sign up to the same 10gb 12 months plan for $70.

  • Same here, still had a couple of months left on my contract, but signed up for 12 months @ $70/mo with unlimited calling and 10GB/mo. Happy days.

  • or get 25% off the $70 BYO plan here: https://www.telstra.com.au/amway/mobile-plans
but for most people prepaid is much better value than a contract (which makes no sense to me).

  • No included international calls no good for me.

  • I just tried this through the 24x7 chat, and they told me I am not eligible because I'm already a contracted Telstra customer? (it's for port in customers only)
Is there anywhere that's states that recontracing customers are eligible?
They did try to offer me 7GB for $60pm though

    • Look under casual plan details on the link, it states that the additional 3g is for ALL customers. I can't see any exclusions for existing customers.
I spoke to 24/7 and the offered me 10g for $60 on 12 month plan after I referred to their website (I am existing customer with 10 months left on byo plan-all fees waived). I think the $70 is for casual plan with no contract. Happy :)

Went away last weekend and was pissed off - my phone on Optus, no signal, my 3 mates on Telstra had strong signal.
Plus numerous blackspots in Melbourne inner south and inner east that they still haven't fixed after 5 years.

Lost me for good Optus. Hasta luego.

  • They also offer a data sim free for 3 months with this plan.

    • The data sim adds 1g onto your plan for 3months. Doesn't cost a cent if you cancel prior to the 3 months.

Hey guys. Does anybody reliaze that these Telstra. Unlimited mobile plans. Are not totally unlimited .
Read the fine print. Does not include 13 numbers only if you want to call a Telstra on a 13 number. This is very misleading And is not. Unlimited Compared to. Boost. Optus. Etc. Not good Telstra

    • Not as unlimited as your full stop button it seems.

    • I've called many 13 numbers and have never been charged more than my monthly commitment.

  • Wow. That is very strange as I've called Telstra call centre many times asking this question
Will I be charged extra if a call 13 numbers. They all say yes. Only free if I am calling Telstra.

  • Are you on the unlimited Telstra casual or contract. I looking at casual now with 10 gb I thinki it is 60. Or. 70.
Boost is still the best value. For 40 dollars. On Telstra network

  • Just wondering. Anyone on the Telstra unlimited mobile phone plans. If they call 13 Numbers are you being charged extra

    • +1

This is via chat wit Teltra rep "This means that you are able to make unlimited calls, at no charge, to the following numbers within Australia to Local and STD calls to a landline, Mobile phones within Australia and Most 11xx, 12xx, 13xx and 1800 numbers."

  • I have a few services with Telstra including Fibre Broadband and Post Paid services.

Signed up for this service and actually received 11GB of data for the monthly $60. Awesome stuff!..

  • Had a call today from Telstra to see how they're meeting my current 'needs'.
I brought up these BYO specials and my displeasure that they're only valid for new customers.
She told me the trick is to take up the offer with a new number then go in store and transfer your existing number to the new plan.

I'm yet confirm with my local Telstra shop if this actually works.

    • Please let us know if it works.

Telstra ain't budging on this. Spoke to 2 reps not the phone (based in Aus) and 1 online.

      • A guy at one store said they couldn't do it but another at a different store said no sweat and to come back and see him.

  • I was more interested in the $40 for 7gb M plan … It took some effort, but I was able to get the guys on chat to swap my existing plan with no recontract fee! Awesome value!

    • No way, that's amazing. Great job.

Was there any particular reason they allowed it?

      • I'm not sure - they had to "speak with their supervisor" about 3 times and came back with various different offers with less data and more cost. I kept on saying I wanted the $40 for 7gb plan or I'd swap and they eventually gave in!

        • What contract were you previously on?

  • To get this offer as an existing customer just ask to be connected to the loyalty team in the 24X7 mobile chat. The regular online mobile contracts team (who you get when you click 24x7 chat on the mobile plans page) cannot help. I was given the following link in chat to get to the loyalty team https://livechat.telstra.com/TSO:Online:Shop:Saves:PFP
