  • Tricky dickies don't have them at eastgardens. No stock in target either.

  • can someone please post a copy of their black ps4.

was the sale only for the white ones?

FYI, I did some calling around, Richmond, Bourke, Emporium, Nunawading, Chadstone - all out of Xbox One, $150 bundles - and only stock in Mornington or some such.

I miss out on a cheap Xbox One AGAIN! man…

    • So did you manage to get the ps4 for $299? I called around and my Dick Smith will only sell for $479.

      • Nah I was looking for Xbox One, I've had my PS4 for about 2 years this week I'd say

  • I tried Roselands, Rockdale and both Hurstville stores in Sydney. All sold out of PS4 unfortunately.
Rockdale advised clearance was only at certain stores and their store was not one of them.

    • any games left at both hurstville stores?

  • PlayStation TV is also available for $30. Perfect companion to the PS4.

    • Particularly with all the 5 dollar vita games for sale

DSE, Garden City: Wife just picked up TLOUR and Shadow of Mordor for 20 each, no PS4s about and they were still at full price. I didn't bother asking her to check with them since there were none in stock. Happy with picking up the games though. No Bloodborne / Uncharted / Dark Souls 2 in sight unfortunately. I told her to go to JB and see if they will price match … she swore at me :)

  • No Sydney store had them in stock. Warrawong had 2 but didn't honour the $299 price so I'm guessing it's a QLD/VIC only offer

I went to 4 different Dick Smith stores in Melbourne today and at every single store there was a majority of one ethnic group literally grabbing as much as they could. At one store the manager said everyone could only buy 1 copy of a game each (to be fair) and he said that shoppers were calling family members in to buy extra copies of games and consoles. I'd be expecting a LOT of games to be going on ebay and gumtree.

I don't care if you're pink, yellow, brown or rainbow coloured - but for (profanity)'s sake the purpose of ozbargain is to share, not to buy stock for your online store and turn a profit.

The store manager was exceedingly helpful trying to track down a copy of Halo Remastered for me, but literally only a handful of stores in Vic had a copy listed in their inventory (as in 1 copy) as there has been a general game clearout for ages.

I did however end up with a spare copy of Assassin's Creed Unity of XB1 as I forgot I already had it on PS, so will probably return that or see if someone wants to swap locally for something else.

There was also a couple of games I bought for $20, where I'll be returning the (unopened) copies I recently bought at Big-W for $24 each. I hate sales, I spend way too much, poor self control.

    • thanks to these pricks spoil it for everyone, all I want is The Last of Us Remastered, can't even find. :(

      • mate, tonnes in my area (outer south east melbourne), where are you? maybe we can sort out a buddy system to link people with games / trades

        • Sydney.

          All soldout yesterday.

sounds like asians. happens anytime any shops have sales on anything

(cans of drinks, toilet paper, etc)

usually see them all with trolley loads of whatever it is going cheap for re-sale

      • I've seen non-asians come out of BigW with a trolley full of soft drink cans on more than one occasion, most likely for their stores.

        • Or for kids parties, weekend sports events, sausage sizzles etc.

        • @systmworks: man, I want to go to the kid's party / weekend sports events where they're selling / giving away the PS4 / xbox one consoles and games! :P

    • I'm sorry but this is a market economy; if Dick Smith is offering stock at prices that people think they could turn for a profit on the internet, then people should be able to buy those products and turn them on the internet. A key concept in efficient goods provision markets is the ability of resalers to either target new consumer bases or more effectively target existing bases.

Seriously, the principle of buy-low, sell-high (esp. in large quantity) should not suprise or anger a bargain-seeker. It's like you are part of this website to realise your goal of being a perfectly rational economic consumer w/in a capitalist market system economy (which I totally agree with), but then get annoyed when other people act as equally rational economic consumers w/in that very same market economy.

Are you saying "within"? Why wouldn't you just write "within"?

  • no dick smith near me (point cook, werribee or altona gate) have ps4's for $299 :(

  • oh crap, just got the 1TB Deal on the weekend from Target through the Ebay Deal $510 down to $429… now i could have had a 500Gb model for over a hundred cheaper… really thinking about returning the 1TB Model as a change of mind, and picking up one of the more cheaper deals and use the extra Hundred to buy decent games.

    • It would be nearly impossible for you to find a 500gb ps4 for $299 today. This deal was yesterday with very limited stock at select stores. Big w have 500gb ps4 going for just under $370 this Saturday and jbhifi have ps4 1 tb going for just under $400 if you managed to get a 5% coupon code for it (provided you buy instore)

Have you been following the main dicks sale post? If you can find a store that has one left you might as well walk into the next church you see and claim to be Jesus reborn, citing the PS4 you scored as proof of a miracle.

    • The 500GB PS4s are the older model clearance hardware. If the 1TB bundle uses new hardware, the power savings over the life of the console depending on how much you use it could add up to some decent $$. Plus you get an extra 500GB to store all your games, which will quickly add up as they start coming out with more 1080p games and digital content downloads.

      • I agree. Markryan you still got a good deal. New model and extra HD is worth it.

      • +2

The older models had a 250W PSU, newer models have a 230W PSU. Assuming the PS4 uses 100% power (it doesn't, gameplay averages around 110-140 W), that's a saving of 20W. I pay roughly 24c/kWh peak and 13.5c/kWh off-peak. If we take the average at say 20c/kWh, you would need to game for 250 hours to save $1.

I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and say you were able to get the 1TB for $399, 500GB is $299, so $100 difference, which is 25000 hours of gameplay. Assuming you play 8 hrs/day EVERYDAY, that is still over 8.5 years of gameplay before you break even.

Your argument regarding the power savings is invalid. =P

The bigger HDD, however, is nice.

First off I did say "it could add decent $$" not that you will get your money back on its own. This still does not negate the fact that you will get power savings.

Add this with the bigger drive, lower noise and better more efficient components, it is a much better deal, and will hold a better resale value to the older models if you decide to trade in against a PS5 down the line.

I also appreciate that you did some math to breakdown the cost savings, but you are purely looking at the size of the PSU. You are correct in that, you won't use 100% of the power at least not yet, but one of the reasons that the PSU is smaller is because the hardware components are much more efficient, and its because of this efficiency, which has been tested and shown up to 18% power saving while playing and between 30-50% while in standby mode. So while it won't halve your electricity bill, for someone that uses their game system a lot for games and streaming, any dollar saving is a good thing.

Here is a link to one of the articles on the new model power savings:

  • I rang some storres today but they were at normal price… ???

  • DS at Westfield Bondi Junction had a few PS4s left but was still full price and the staff weren't budging on that, said something about it coming with a game and therefore wasn't on clearance. Had a clearance table near the front that was virtually empty (a few charge and play Xbox360 and Coolpix point and shoot cameras).

Staff were friendly but said they had been overwhelmed by a lot of people demanding better prices on virtually everything

  • Not sure if anyone is still reading this thread. I've just popped into dick smith at arndale, SA.

They have 3 harmony ultimate remotes (I just bought one)

They also have a bunch of xbone, ps4, PS3 and 360 games
Xbone - minecraft, evil within, lots of nba 2k15, call of duty (I think)
PS4 - at least 20 last of us, nba 2k, evil within
PS3 - borderlands pre sequel, rayman, COD GHOSTS, battlefield 4
    360 - ghosts, battlefield 3 and 4, minecraft (I think)
    Also about 10 PC games

There are 4 gaming bins out the front but check the gaming shelves at the back of the shop.

No cheap PS4's and no cameras.

  • Why do I get the feeling that this was the BIGGEST marketing ploy of 2015… Here's the deal, sell a 100 cheap PS4's nationally, get everyone hyped up, CHA-CHING!!!!

Is this deal still going around? just asking because post isnt expired

Still going if you can find stock. Which is unlikely :(
