  • I taught Hitachi left the oz market. .

    • Yep, in that they no longer make the TVs themselves. A lot are apparently made by Orion (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Orion_Electric). Think JVC.

      • So I guess product quality would be similar to current JVC panels?

        • whats the quality of the current jvc panel?

They seem to review pretty good for budget LCD's

    • They exists as a brand only these days, just like akai, teac, etc.

      I taught I taw a puttytat

  • can't seem to find any reviews on this thing. any opinions?

    • Had the Hitachi 60" back then when MYer has it on sale for around 900.

Interface is really slow . I mean sloooooow. Start up takes about 20 sec. So make sure volume is not at high when you turn on at midnight.

Blur ghost in some movies and sports.

Just saw one at JB in Nunawading (Melbourne). Wife had to drag me away.
The JB guy pointed out that it was their big Wicked Wednesday special. It looked pretty darn good, was playing 'Inside Out' on Blu Ray and the colours looked really clean. It clearly was not a $3000 Samsung but it seemed to be quite good quality in the fittings etc.
The only other 65 inch TV I have seen at anywhere near this price is the one at Aldi, which is $1200 and which has some average reviews here; www.ozbargain.com.au/node/209684 That deal says sold out but I saw some earlier in the week in an Aldi on Bell St.
The Hitachi looked OK and if I was in the market for a big screen, I would have grabbed it.

    • Wait if this is part of the Wicked Wednesday special isn't there a further 5% coupon? Makes it $949.

      • 5% T&C states exclusion for this

      • Sorry for the slow response.
I did not ask if there was any further discount.

    • I'd go visit Dick Smith before going into JB. Someone just posted a photo of their receipt for a 65" Samsung UHD. $899
Sure stock is probably very limited, but if I was in the market for a new TV I'd definitely go check them out first.

      • Wow do you have the link to that post?

      • Bloody hell, that is a really bargain, Series 7 somemore.

      • Stock was limited, it is for display models only. The guy said it has been running 24/7 for a long time. I said I'll pass.

  • can you call up JB to hold it and then I go to the shop tonight and decide?

  • bought 60 inch's one at $865 from myer last year, the quality is alright compare to the money spent. the only catch is the yellowrish color in some cases, but not a problem for me.

  • How much are they normally?

  • As mentioned above no reviews etc Any one know anything about this model or the series in general ?, e.g. any one have a 5100series can comment how the EPG(electronic program guide) is on these things ? The deal looks too good to be true…..

I went to Melton store to pick one up, but I spotted a big blue line on the display model, Ask the store guy abt it, he didn't anything and said they have sold 4 since this deal is up, but no one has come back yet. But he suggested me to come back in couple of days and hopefully they will have some reviews by then from people who bought this.

They have plenty of stock left. I probably wait.

      • Sounds good and thanks for the info, I might try a store tomorrow also. If anyone checks them out let me know.

  • Had a look at a display model in jbhifi melb city store, looking to buy

Had quite a few available - it was running 1920x800 divx trailers off USB

Not sure if its the source but the dark areas in the videos were hard to make out, played around with settings and still hard to make out

Clarity and sharpness of the picture was questionable compared to Samsung displays tho again not sure if that was because of the source divx files.. Samsung display units were showing stock Samsung videos which would be optimized for sharpness.

Wasn't too sure I'll purchase until I see like for like source videos played.. You could probably bring your own USB stick with videos to play, the store rep was OK with me configuring the settings

  • I went into JB Brighton (Nepean Hwy, Vic) and they had one running Maleficent. Was plugged via HDMI into a Samsung media player so assume that was where the image was coming from. It was on the floor back to back with the UHD version of the set (that costs double the amount), which for some insane reason was playing a Richard Hammond 'Science of Stupid' episode complete with incredibly low resolution videos taken using old mobiles and uploaded to youtube. Not really showing the UHD set off to its best either.

Anyhow, the image of the 1080p 65 inch set did not look good to me - blocky/blurry/off colours. Could always have been a poor source or other settings on the TV itself, but not a good first impression. I would second the suggestion of bringing in a USB key with a decent video on it if you intend to buy one.

My other comment would be the size of the TV itself - it has a fairly wide bezel (compared to current TVs), and maybe for that reason the screen looked smaller than 65 inches…. weird. Maybe along with the usb key you should also bring a tape measure! ;-)

  • Saw this today - wasnt impressed, there was lack of detail to the point where some text I couldnt even make out the '-' in H very clearly. The samsung and LG besides had no such issue.

Even watching the content playing on it and comparing it to other Tele's it seemed Sub-par.

Unless you must get a 65inch tele and cheap, I would stay away from this one.

was the source content like a bluray or something decent?

  • Tempted. Anyone know when this price will end?
I just want a second TV for the bedroom to stream some netflix (chromecast) on mostly. So features don't worry me so much as having at least a semi decent picture quality.
I wonder if anyone knows where to get a good downloadable video (not super compressed) to carry in on a USB stick to test .. something that rolls through different image types, shows some static text at different sizes, scrolling black/white lines, fast motion etc?

  • I purchased one of these for Christmas from JB Hi Fi.
Panel is fine. Sound is rubbish. I am very satisfied with the picture quality, however would absolutely recommend complementing it with a sound bar (purchased a Phillips Sound Bar from DSE for $79.00 - excellent). Overall package works really well for a 65" television. Add Chromecast dongle (and tablet) and you now effectively have a Smart TV.
