That is a significant drop in price; well spotted. I think I'll stick with my 55" Samsung for the time being but that would be tempting if I had a theatre room.

With the cash back, looks better then JB deal. Waiting for the 4k 75' come down.

    • Yep $103.96 cash back brings the price down to 2599-103.96-25 gift voucher

      Total 2599-128.96
      = $2470.04

Sell your current TV on gumtree for a quick price and youre looking at a great deal!

  • Time to use those $25 vouchers…

    *they're

  • Wife has said don't need to replace our 5 year old Samsung plasma. very tempting to grab one of the sony deals.
Was after a sony projector for the home theatre too, but cannot find any good sales

    • Hey Mate, If it makes you feel any better I'm still using my 50" Samsung Plasma from 2007 :) Think I paid around $2,200 for it back then! I feel that while it doesn't do 200hz or show True HD It does the job perfectly fine, and that's why I haven't upgraded it since

      • I got mine from Myers on sale (20% off) for around $600. It is not full HD though. Honestly I don't know if I could tell the difference anyway. I think I need one of the kids to knock it over.

I have never heard of any wife agreeing to update a TV.

  • Will the 55x8500c uhd tv hit the 11-1200 mark ??

  • No 4K blurays really let the tv industry down.

Hopefully next Xmas there will be titles to play on monster size tvs like these.

    • This set is 1080p, remember

      • i knows but 4k sets arnt that much more is the point, … at this size its pointless getting 1080p in the first place so these sets really are premature despite the great price i cant fork out the money.

Err.. Paying an extra 54% ($1400) for the same size/brand in 4K (talking Sony 75") is a LOT more.

If 4K content was everywhere, then it would be more attractive.

But a lot of people can't get NBN yet or fast enough internet to stream 4K. There is very little free to air or bluray 4K content around.
In a couple of years hopefully 4K content will be readily available for most buyers.
99% of the Gold Coast and Southern side of Brisbane cannot get NBN yet, it's ridiculous.

I'd rather save $1400, get a couple of years pleasure out of a big 75" TV, and then upgrade to 4K (or 8K) when they are cheaper and content much more available in my area.

It's not like you can see the individual 1080p pixels from 4+ meters away. 1080p still looks pretty damn good.

But I understand why people with ready access to 4K now, who don't want to replace their TV every 1-2 years like I do, would feel jumping on 4K now makes sense for them.

  • How can i get the cashback ?

  • Ahh spewing.. got sucked into the JB Hifi deal :(

    • Free delivery also means not having to get it home by public transport anymore. ;)

    • Don't be despair if you bought from JB HiFI.
You get an additional 18 months warranty on top of the 12 months manufacturer warranty.
This gives you an additional 18 months peace of mind when Sony warranty runs out,

      • 18 months? My last couple of electronic purchases they verbally advised an extra 12 months. Nothing in writing however - so I hand wrote it on receipt to remind me.
And they are just honouring their obligations under the consumer guarantees act, so technically same applies from any Australian reseller, including Sony.
Nice that you don't have to argue the case tho.

Not related but just saw on Boxing Day sale home page that it is saying "Free shopping" instead of Free shipping? http://www.sony.com.au/microsite/store/?cid=sitebanner:boxin… Can we in some way screw them up? LOLZ

  • Has anyone received their TV yet? I bought one on 28/12/15 and received a shipping number but called DHL and they haven't picked it up yet. Called customer service (outsourced) and they said it was out of stock, still waiting for a response from Sony Store (Sydney).

    • Mine was delivered on new year's eve. Hmm bad luck.

      • thanks mate, they are offering the KD65X8500C instead and $30 refund
