    Made in USA?

      • +8

Yeah you didn't do your research correctly. Not all Wahl hair clippers are made in USA.

    • +6

I have one. It's made in China.

      • +2

jackofspade is correct. It is made in China.

    • +2

I have one too. This one is made in China.

    • +2

      These are made in China.

    • +5

Only buy USA made Wahl (for humans or dogs) the chines ones are over priced junk, the US ones are all metal internals and will last decades if looked after

      • I had my hopes up too - the Silent Giant Model A I picked up a couple of months back for $5 has a small dent under the "power" arrow pointing to the wingnut for that adjustment. It is the real deal tho - took me about three minutes to clear a beard. I guess I'd better stick with the 1935 model until something else comes along…
It has been as low as $17, tho I guess with the $ performing like a video on fraudband…:-/
        https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/155049

      • I have a made in china Wahl and a usa made one. Actually I bought the made in china when the usa one broke. Sure usa one was nicer feel and overall better… But Chinese wahl id hands down better than any other Chinese made brands like Remington etc.

  • +2

    Whats the regular price?

    • The price when it's not on special…

  • +4

This is the normal price from Harvey Norman, would not recommend though. Overheating issues and blades stick after little use.

    • +1 this brand is crap

      • Their USA made models are good and are used by hair barbers. Too bad their made in China ones are subpar.

        • I have used it personally and find it crap compared to Philips

        • Which philips do you recommend?

        • -1

@DoctorOwl: Philips family clipper available in Woolies store

      • Ozdesi, do you own any Wahl products?

USA made Wahl is an excellent product. China made Wahl is crap.

I've had a USA Wahl for over 20 years and it is still going strong

        • yes I have owned Wahl clipper and its the worst I have owned till now

        • @ozdesi:
Was your Wahl clipper made in China?

        • -3

@Scope: I can't tell now have thrown it in the bin few years ago. I did buy it from The Shaver Shop if that helps.

        • @ozdesi: It was probably a made in China one. I don't think the proper ones are available through normal retail channels. I bought mine from a salon supply website. About $100 but it still pays for itself after a few cuts so for me it was worth it.

  • Love ya, need a new hair shaver!

  • Is this any good for beard shaving?

    • It's OK. If that's all your using it for, should be fine. However, as per my longer post the USA-made models might be worth considering.

    • Works fine for beard shaving. Don't expect a clean shave though, there will obviously still be a slight stubble. But to hack through old growth that your normal face shaving tools won't get through it's perfectly adequate.

      • seems like it would be perfect for less direct work like fading a beard into hair line or doing the same just with a hair only fade.

    • I bought it for beard shaving.
      It's terrible.
      Avoid it.

  • Good deal.

This seller on ebay has sold 11,891 units at $33.95 (http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/WAHL-Performer-20-Piece-Home-Hair…)

Pretty sure this is the standard price. Bought one about a year ago from HN. Lasted about 3 cuts before it became super noisy, something came loose in there resulting in excess vibration.

Suggest spluge out for a bit more.

Replaced the Wahl with a Remington from Big W for 27 bucks, still going strong.

BTW, the clipper guides/attachments are interchangeable between the two.

    • +1

There is a large platic philips head screw on the side of the wahl clippers, get a screw driver and adjust this screw while its on to stop the rattling/ vibration noise. This basically stops the side to side motion of the motor inside the clipper from hitting the sides of the casing. My old wahl has this adjustment, however that was the US made one, I am not sure about the Chinese ones.

Pretty sure it was on sale a few weeks ago for $15, as that's what I paid for it. Haven't used it yet though

    • Cool.

  • I have this exact kit. Once a week I cut my hair. Every single day I trim my beard.

It has worked flawlessly. I bought it for 25 delivered and would recommend it 100%

    • +11

if you need to trim your beard everyday, you're a werewolf!! not a vampyr :)

      • And if you have to have a haircut every week, gee.

        • Must be a case of…

  • +9

I have used this exact kit for the last 2 years to shave and style my pubes.

It had worked flawlessly over this time. Strongly recommend

I'm sure we were all eagerly waiting to know how you groom your nether regions. Thank you.

You should try it. I'm sure your husband would like the look

Number 1 up the back and the sides and short and spikey on top???

        • Haha .

        • @singlefished:
          I like that look

        • @pauper:

          What a thread…

    • Photo or it never happen?

      • Oh there's plenty of that online…

    • Mowing around the clothesline.

I'd recommend getting the Wahl Style Clippers over these ones. The China made ones aren't as great.

  • This is VERY cheap for a good set of Wahl clippers (which are by far the best clippers for bald dudes) I can only assume they are too cheap.
Based on jpv's post I'm guessing so.
Mine are 12 years old, made in the US - good quality, very good, cost me about $90 in 2004 dollars - worth it.
Wahl name is good, Wahl China? I'd avoid.

  • +1

I have owned this exact model for about a year. I used it to trim my beard, and give myself crewcuts.
It is ok, but not very powerful- struggles getting though my thick hair if I leave it too long between haircuts. Gets very hot with extended use too.

As mentioned already, $19 seems to be more or less the standard price for this.

In the end, I took the advice of another Ozbargainer and invested in a set 'professional' grade Wahl clippers, the Designer:

    http://www.myhaircare.com.au/Designer_Clipper_1280.html

Compared to the one in this deal, the Designer:

    -Made in the USA
    -More powerful motor
-Better quality guards (although not as many)
    -Longer cable

The Designer works MUCH better than the Performer ever did. Yes, it is quite a bit more expensive, but it will pay for itself after a few haircuts I guess.

Edit: here is the post that put me on to the Designer. It sounds like this person has tried a few different Wahl and non-Wahl models, and like the Designer best:

I didn't realise that you could get the USA made Wahl Style clippers here as mentioned in jpv's post. I'd recommend anyone intending on doing regular haircuts investing in some USA-made Wahl ones. Not saying that made in China automatically means they are bad, but in the case of Wahl clippers the USA-made ones do seem to be a lot better.

  • I have the Wahl Control Pro

    http://www.shavershop.com.au/online-store/hair-clippers/hair…

and it performs much better than the China made ones, which I have own previously. I'll vouch for the Wahl and it powers through thick hair with ease. It's like using a petrol vs electric mower I guess. Spend a little extra and get something decent - you won't regret it. For anyone contemplating buying Wahl models from the US through say Amazon, beware that the voltage is incompatible with Oz so you will likely have to buy locally to avoid any issues.

    • What's the difference between this one and 'Styler' mentioned above. The styler is $10 more and comes with combs and scissors (which I wouldn't use) but other than that?

  • I have the Wahl Lithium Ion Cordless Clipper kit This was purchased locally. It is the Made in the USA model. Had it for a few years now and still works great.

The Wahl Lithium Ion Power Duo is the current newer model of the one I linked to above.

  • This was posted on ozbargain a few years back and it received a lot of negs.

Best to get the USA made Wahl which is able to be purchased on sale for around $35. USA one has very good build quality.

This made in China one is the same quality as most other clippers, and does not deserve to be Wahl branded.

  • I've owned this for a couple of years now. Cut my hair with it every Sunday no problems. Keep the blades piled and clean it from time to time and you'll be fine.

  • mine's still going strong since picking it up the last time it was posted as a deal.

I honestly wouldn't take Wahl for free, I think they are junk. I've had two sets and both had issues across multiple parts. My Philips kit that replaced it is much better.

    • Some people say Remington isn't that good, so I would stay away from that too. Haven't tried Philips tbh…

      • My old Remington still great after 10+ years, but the cheaper replacement was rubbish!
When I return it to the good guys, they told me to get US made Wahl instead.

        • Me too, have a Remington professional that I caught as a factory second years ago for 35 bucks. Started showing it's age (15 years later) and I bought some cheapies, worse than my 15 year old ones. Pulled apart the Remington's and put them back together and they still cut fine, only thing is the little lever that controls the blade is a bit loose and during the cut it it gets .5 'shorter' if you dont remember to keep your finger on it/regularly reset it

        • +1

@Jackson: One more plus for Philips. One comb, cordless, light, ergonomic, quiet. Everything others are not

  • +2

Bought this exact set 12 months ago, fairly poor quality. The supplied guards are also very poor quality junk.

  • +3

Not a fan of Wahl's comb attachment method - comb occasionally falls off while cutting. Ensuing 0mm gash requires me to cut all my hair off.

    • Wahl comb attachments on my USA made Control Pro never seem to fall off. Must be a made in China thing.

      • Nah, a 9247 made in the USA. Doesn't happen much - maybe once every 10 cuts.

  • If you want the USA made Wahl hair clippers, go to The Shaver Shop as there's a fair bet that the Wahl clippers there are the USA made ones. A while ago i bought the Wahl Control Pro from The Shaver Shop http://www.shavershop.com.au/online-store/hair-clippers/hair… and it's indeed made in USA. You pay double the price compared to this cheap crappy Wahl Performer but atleast the Control Pro there is USA made. The saying is you get what you pay for. Basically The Shaver Shop doesn't sell junk.

The only reason i got the Wahl Performer is because TGG gave me a bonus $20 no min spend gift voucher so i got it really cheap.

  • Wahl made in Europe(Hungary I think) is crap too..

  • Does anyone know about the quality if wahl set available at costco?

    • The packaging will show if made in USA or not.
hollykryten mentioned the Shaver Shop - I also recommend them for the USA-made products.

      • In regards to make in country, that I know for sure is USA for thise in Costco. Kit is around 59AUD. Just wanted to know if anyone had experience with those before I go and buy the kit. Else I know shop that supplies to hair salons, but charges a little extra (different model). So tossing between the two.

  • I have had this machine for 2 years, trims my mustache, cuts my hair, no issues at all. Only thing is you can't get it wet and you have to (open it) clean it after a year or so

Is this made in China or USA.
And is it better than the above model

    • +1

If it was made in USA then it would have a Made in USA symbol just under the price which it doesn't. I would say that one is made in China. And i would say both that and the Performer model sold at HN and TGG there wouldn't be much difference between the two. The Home Cut model has a brush which the Performer model doesn't. Both have the same 10 cutting attachments. That's basically the only difference.

The cheapest hair clipper from The Shaver Shop which is actually made in USA is the Control Pro at $39.95. Notice the Made in USA symbol right under the price that's how you can tell.

      http://www.shavershop.com.au/online-store/hair-clippers/hair…

  • I have 2 of the USA made ones, shunt motors. Had them for about 10 years, still amazing. Replaced the blades on 1 once. Keep them oiled and clean.
