@p2015 Just so that you are aware Vaya has free month and sim delivery. But you have to activate within the same month. If you order sim on January and activate on 25 Jan, then you only get 5 days of "free month".
If you want the free month, make sure you order and activate early on the month.

      • what if order mid of the month when receive keep it wait till first day of next month and then activate?

    • +2

Vaya is probably better overall (Optus network has better call quality and more coverage), and they've switched from MB billing to KB.

    • Vaya is KB now.
      Joined since Aug last year.
      So far so good.

Free SIM, Free First month, $50 refer bonus!

    • I think overall Optus is better, especially outside the major cities, but there will be some spots where Vodafone has the edge.

I've been with Vaya over 2 years and think it is excellent value. Optus 4G coverage, with decent call and data allowance. Excess data is $10 for an extra GB so no huge bill shock. You get email warnings when reaching 50% and 85% of your data and can also check it online. Vaya measures by KB now, changed a while back.

      • Note that the 50, 85 and 100% warnings are ACMA requirements.

  • TPG used to be with Optus and the call quality was pretty consistent. Ever since they switched to vodafone (which this new plan is on), my call quality has been pretty choppy (even when there is full reception). I can hear my caller clearly but they can't hear me. If you can afford it and need to make calls, i would go with amaysim or boost. I predominantly use my phone between the Sydney City to Parramatta corridor, just in case you are wondering - reception and call quality can vary depending on where you are.

The 4G is however a step up from Optus 3G, no problems with signal too.

    • This is literally the first post I've seen critquing Voda signal quality worse than Optus in over 18 months. Not to say I don't believe you - just interesting that for the most part online, people seem happily surprised with the Voda signal quality (shrug)

      • Hmm.. i don't seem to be the only one critiquing TPG-Voda's reception:

        http://www.productreview.com.au/p/tpg-mobile.html

scroll down to the early Jan 2016 reviews. Granted that these are complaints about phone reception as opposed to call quality but I just made a few calls on my phone today and had to call the same number twice from different locations before the person on the other end could hear me. Really tempted to switch if I wasn't already getting a landline discount on my mobile plan.

Good deal but excess data rate is way too high 10cents per MB means $100 per GB.That is insane..

  • Over on https://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies.cfm?t=2408132&…

    The Rep has posted:-

"The good thing about this plan is that there is no auto top-up, therefore, you can no longer call or SMS if your cap is exhausted and you can no longer use your data if your included data value is exhausted.

The service will only be restored when you pay for additional prepaid balance ($10, $20, $50, $100, $200)."

I wonder how this works? if you run out of data mid-month and top up do you get another 1.5Gb or are you paying 10c MB until the new month starts?

    • I assume if you top-up $10 for example - you only get 100MB of use before you have to top up again… :/

  • +4

No matter how good TPG seems to be offering , my personal experience is , it simply doesn't worth it. I was wondering why this thing still there after they infamously started to push out their long term mobile customer ( which they don't like) and screwed so many people up … it is one of the disgrace for an ' Australian' company…a total shame …

    • +4

You could be referring to most ISP or mobile operators. I could name dozens that have given me a terrible customer experience over the years. Starting with Telstra and Dodo, Eleven star Fails!. Tpg have been helpful to me for 10 years or so.

  • TPG not that great as they used to be.
I know Vaya gets bad wrap but I've been with then on pretty much the same plan for $17. One good thing with Vaya is that if you go over Data, they charge $10 for 1GB lots. So, rarely go over $27 for the month. Without the block charges it could be more.

Like any telco. If no issue they all great. As soon as there is anything, its pot luck.

TPG used to be good for this when it included Internation calls included. Now, happy with Vaya mainly for $10 for 1GB excess data charges.

    • I remember TPG excludes international calls after the revamped of their plans.

But this deal as stated by OP, seems to include international calls for use within the $550 cap ?

      • seems to include international calls for use within the $550 cap ?

it does indeed. It's essentially the VM4 plan that a lot of us existing customers were invited to switch to.

      • Thanks for clarifying. Maybe it is time to switch :). I'll look at it closely.

    • The last 12 months online I've read almost ZERO negative comments about Voda reception quality and heard many times Optus isn't so good.
YMMV I guess but ……… nah I'm trying Voda.

  • Exactly what I've been looking for. SCREW Telechoice, so unreliable. Thank you.

    • what are bad things about telechoice? please share

      • +1

Only 3G data yet the network dropped out regularly for me despite being "the amazing Telstra network" I'm not the only one too.
Customer service was always fairly ok - except they close any and all jobs in the system as soon as they reply, regardless if it's fixed or not.

  • +2

    WOW
    Aggressive (proactive?) sign up method.
Half way through signing up online, the form auto submits data to them and they call you and say "nah dude let's just do it on the phone"
Spoke with Salvi (ext 5742?) I think, holy crap that girl has done a lot of these, on the ball.

Didn't mention a $20 security fee or a port out fee (I assume the port out might still exist, but I would expect the $20 security fee does NOT since that wasn't mentioned in the call and she claimed only initial $20 charge, $10 for sim and $10 credit)

Smooth process overall, worked well. Let's see if Telechoice relinquish my number for porting (god knows what the rules are but some carriers can be knobs with ports, right?)
I will say their auto dialler did smash my phone a few times, got like 5 calls overall from their system / systems trying to complete the application, otherwise good times.

So long 3G with drop outs, in Melbourne bloody CBD, Voda network can't be any worse.

    • I am an existing TPG customer and noted these information about their "prepayment" when I explored the options for changing/upgrading my existing plan. I don't think these appear clearly (if at all) for new customers before their get access into their online login account.

      " Prepayment is now Optional
      - If you wish to use the service for usage that is not part of the included value (e.g. excess usage or excluded usage), you will need to have prepaid to us money to cover the charges for such additional usage (Prepaid Balance).

      • Prepayment is optional. Your default Prepaid Balance is $0.

      • To add to your Prepaid Balance, log into My Account after your new plan is active and then select “Add Prepaid Balance” in your Mobile Service Account. "

    • +1

haha I got the same person! and happened the same way for me… halfway through filling in they call me. I think it actually works on whoever in the call centre calls you first gets a commission or something, because once Salvi called me I got like 10 missed calls from the same number Salvi was calling me on.

      • +1

Yeah exactly. I hope this all works out well. I'm so sick of 3G only and drop outs.
        Fingers crossed

  • I have the old $1 p/m PAYG Tpg plan. Anyone know will I be forced over to VF network?
    Hope not.

    • +1

If TPG is in the process of moving ALL customers to Voda as they've signed a contract to sell Voda services, it seems logical you'll eventually be migrated.

      • Thanks.

  • +1

was going to thumbs up this deal but realized that they are voda sellers….

  • -1

$100 prr month for a kid? That's too much. Should go for Aldi mobile, $5 a year.

  • Some one mentioned this before, but the rep told me on the phone as well that once you hit your data/call limits it blocks your service. Will just set my data limit at 1.49gb for the month on my phone but sounds like a good feature if that is not an option.

  • Are these honeymoon type deals really bargains? Particularly for a phone plan where you are bit more locked in (not that churning is all that difficult but I can't be bothered doing it every 6 months).

Also factor in a $20 sign up fee and maybe a port out fee and it's only $40 or less over 6 months.

    • I've been pricing phone plans for a while, there's VERY FEW plans over 600mb with 1gb data which are 4G/LTE
      Let alone 1.5GB of data.

The Boost one has a measly 100 minutes, this sucker has a reasonable call qty, 1.5GB data, 4G and Voda's network reputation is significantly better than it was.
I was gonna sign up to these chumps at $20 per month this week, let alone $10 for 6 months.
      I believe it's a deal

      • It's such a short term gain though for something you'll will continue to use long after the 6 month period is over. You save just $30 or $40 over the normal price but have to deal with porting in and then maybe out.

        • Wait I'm confused, why would I port in, then out?
The price will drop back to $20 per month after 6 months.
I actually was looking to switch to the TPG, $20 plan indefinitely (if the performance holds up) because I'm sick of my existing carrier.

So even though $10 a month is better (great) I'm actually fine with the $20 after.
Are you saying something else will change with this deal at the end of 6 months, besides $10 price increase or do you just not feel the $20 price is worth it?

        • +1

          @hamwhisperer:
No I'm just saying that the "deal" is $10/month for 6 months + charges to get started eroding some of the $10/month saving over the $20 plan. After the 6 month "honeymoon" it's just an average priced plan.

You don't have to port out and TPG are hoping you don't. In terms of a deal the $18 Vaya is probably better if you wish to risk their customer service (I'm a Vaya user).

If you were going to change to TPG anyway then, OK you save a few dollars in the short term but it's not super deal.

        • @Shonky: Any plan with over 1000MB data and 4G (LTE) at $20 or under is pretty good, within reason. There's only a small handful available, especially with reasonable amount of call credit.
(Boost has a fairly cheap plan, good network, but the call credit is miniscule)

  • I've been with TPG for years but am leaving since recently discovering for myself just how bad Vodaphones coverage is. I wouldn't accept this at any price.

    • This is the second post I've seen in a year about bad Vodafone network performance. Still well short of Optus complaints I see almost 2 or 3 a week.
Sorry it sucks for you, I hope it doesn't for me. (where are you at?)

      • +1

Coverage is terrible where I live near the Canberra CBD, and a recent holiday around rural NSW and the NSW south coast gave me coverage less than 10% of the time, and slow coverage at that. Never found anywhere that the signal was decent.

  • I've been with TPG mobile for 3+ years - no issues at all. I'm happy with the Vodafone network in Sydney.

    • I hv been with TPG for many years too and I believe I am still on their Optus 3G network because I did not take up their offer to switch me to one of their 4G plans. I assume you changed your plans within TPG in the last few months ? I hv been happy with their 3G plan, just not sure yet about their 4G.

      • You should be just getting switched automatically. You get sent an email and they post you a new sim card.

        • I recall receiving one of those emails but apparently it just "invited" me to switch as they have not yet switched off the plan that i am currently on. I didn't take up their offer so i never got a new sim card. They did mention that they may switch off my plan when they decide that it is no longer viable to offer the service.

I hv almost neen tempted to switch for supposedly better 4G network but now that i hv read much unfavorable reviews of the vodafone network i am no longer that keen.

  • I've been with them since they were known as B.
I'm currently on the $20 plan with 1gb data.
I've seen some comments on here of ppl being on the grandfathered plan ($18 with 1.5gb data), which I was originally on.
How can I switch to 1.5gb?

    • I understand that for existing tpg customers, you can do plans switch via your tpg "my account" portal and I believe only the current T4G plans are on offer. The closest being the $19.99 for 1.5gb plan. How did you agree to switch from your original $18 plan to $20 plan with less data?

      • +1

I just searched my emails and saw this from 2014. There was no option to disagree :( Bunch of A-holes

You currently acquire the Super Value Plan Medium mobile plan 04XX XXX XXX from TPG.

By this letter, we are giving you at least 21 days notice of a variation to this mobile plan.

The variation includes an increase in your plan's monthly charge due to our supplier increasing their rates. Unfortunately TPG has no choice but to vary the plan you acquire from us.

Please find details of the plan variation below.
Plan Super Value Plan Medium (Current) Super Value Plan Medium (New)
        Monthly Charge $17.99 $19.99
        Included Value $550.00 $550.00
        Included Data 1.5GB 1GB
Social Networking Unlimited Part of Included Data
Excess Data 25¢ per MB 5¢ per MB

Attached is the Critical Information Summary of the new mobile plan.

We believe this plan still represents excellent value. If you are dissatisfied with the variation to this plan, because this is a month-to-month plan, you may either port out or cancel the service at any time by contacting us.

The variation will take effect on your next billing cycle which starts on x/x/2014. If you do not wish to pay the varied charge, you should make sure that you port out or cancel your service before that date.

  • +1

Ah I see. I believe your super value plan is good for large call/text allowance hence they had to cut back on data? If the current $20 plan with $550 call/text works for you, then I would say go for it as you will be paying the same for more data ;)

    • Looking to port out tho.
I experienced no reception in Rockingham (Perth Metro) the other day for the first time ever.
I wonder if that had anything to do with the switch over to Vodafail.

  • when offer end?

any further discount if i have tpg adsl?

  • +2

I was looking for a cheap plan for my son, to teach him how to manage his phone credit and data. This would have been great for him and taught him that you cant have your face in the phone all the time.
. How ever , his mother (my ex) decided to completely undermine me and sign him up for the ihpone6 plan at around $100p/m even though he lives with me, she said it was none of my buisness . Now he has the data and credit to ignore the family he lives with and the 3 and 1 year old little sisters that love him to bits. 17 is too young for that sort of contract.

    • 17 is too young for that sort of contract.

      Does he work?

I think linking your issues with his mother to his choice of phone is a bit extreme.

      • +1

I disagree. I know what happened.. He knew i was against it because he asked me to get the contract for him. i said it was a bit out of his budget and i was trying to teach him to be responsible with signing away a few years on a crap deal just on a apple phone. You my friend are not an ozbargainer if we are having this discussion, because a Ozbargainer would understand exactly what i was trying to do.

        • -1

A true true ozbargainer wouldn't need to rely on getting kids into contracts or debt to teach them to be responsible. Learning to be responsible and having savings is late at 17years, should start at primary school years, down to the cents.

He's probably just going through a phase, Just excited about new toys.

    • +3

      ihpone6 plan at around $100p/m

lmao. spoiled much? how irresponsible of her -_-

  • I am still on the $1/month PAYG plan :)

    • -1

How are TPG's PAYG rates as compared to Amaysim? With Amaysim PAYG, I don't think you pay any monthly fee if you don't make any calls and turn off your data.

      • good rates, 10c flagfall, 10c / min charged by second.

        Internet only 50mb though

but perfect for light user like me

  • Arrived, activated, works fine
    35ms 20/20mbit in Melbourne
    good stuff

  • anybody knows when this offer is likely to expire and is it possible to activate the sim later or do they deduct the first months fee from the time you signup?

    • anybody knows when this offer is likely to expire

31 March 16 according to the banner on the deal link.

is it possible to activate the SIM later or do they deduct the first months fee from the time you signup?

I want to know this too. I want to know if I can use an optus prepaid starter kit I have that expires end of this month prior to activating my TPG SIM. I have already signed up, so the SIM is on the way (didn't notice the expiring starter pack until afterwards).

  • They are really desperate?? Was trying to sign up last night but didn't finished the application as I was worried they might start charging me and activating my number before the 28th(when I really want to be ported over) not now. Anyway I got a call this morning during my work hours, I told them that I will call them back and that if they could just email me instead of talking on the phone because I have to attend a classroom. A students required my assistant with login to do his test. TPG girl on the phone wouldn't let me go and keep forcing me to agree to the terms and conditions and wanted me to agree to it. I said I was BUSY and I will call back. How the freak can they not understand?

    • I was with TPG $29.99. After I saw this promotion, which is for new users only, I started to look around as they are not taking care of their existing customers. Now I have moved to Telechoices $28. $1000 calls and 1.5GB data (including international calls). After I signed up, Telechoices has a promotion that offers 2.5GB data instead of 1.5GB data in the $28 plan. So I call them up to change the plan with a fee or extend my contract period. At least Telechoices knows existing customers are its bread and butter, before hunting for new ones.

      • I ended up signing the contract since the girl called up again and apologies. 10$ a month is not so bad since I only make a few phone calls a month. I can always port out to another company again in the future. :)

        • did she confirm that the 6 months will only start once you choose to activate (i.e. after the 28th for you)?

        • @pvergers:

She said I will be charged straight after the sim is shipped but said that I have 3 months to activate the sim.I think the 6 months starts from when they shipped the sim.

  • took up the deal, activated online on 14/2/2016, until now, 19/2/2016, still waiting for the number to get ported…. VERY DISAPPOINTED.

  • "offer ends 30 June 2016"

Awesome, if nothing better comes by then will port out from Amaysim as soon as my 6 month plan is up.
    Thanks heaps OP

  • Can anyone else comment on time it takes to port a number? Would love this for my wife but she needs her phone always active in case she gets called out to work.

  • Wow what a great deal! I had broadband with TPG… service stopped for 3 months during Christmas. No reason provided. "We're looking into it…"

The same company me and my mom ported to and then had No Service on our mobile devices until we had no choice but to get out and switch to Amaysim.

    /neg

  • Time to port back to TPG from Amaysim by June 29.

    • Why?

      • To save money if I can't find better deals.

I might get Amaysim to price beat TPG before I port out.
