        thx good song

    • Thanks, swapped over to the .OPvault format.

      • +1

        yep same !

      • +1

        Ditto!

    • +2

1Password 6 for Mac or newer already use OPVault. Also if you use iCloud and Wifi sync it uses OPVault (says in the article)

      • +2

If you've upgraded to 6.0 from an earlier version and not using iCloud or wifi sync you won't be using OPvault and need to convert it manually though.

        • Yes I think so. I will check when I get a chance and convert if not. Thanks

I just use "password" for all my passwords, that way I never forget it.

    • nearly every site and application don't allow that.
your joke is already in the title on this deal and the name of the app.

      • +2

nearly every site and application don't allow that.

I use "incorrect" as my password so if I enter wrong one, it reminds me my password.

  • +6

i bought this last year and couldn't live without it. HIGHLY recommended. i got both the Mac and Win license.

  • +1

Another vote for 1Password. It syncs seamlessly across my iPhone and Mac, and also supports TouchID.

  • +5

MacPowerUsers code from this deal still works for an extra 20% off.

I recently made the switch from LastPass to 1Password. Happy with it so far although I only just discovered that you can't run the 1Password browser extension on Firefox Portable or any other portable browser. A big downfall for me. I’ve read a little about 1PasswordAnywhere, which is supposedly a workaround, but I’d prefer the ability to just run a browser extension.

Why not just use awesome, and free keepass?

    • That was my question. Is this thing $28 better than Keepass?

      • No replies yet, I'm also curious!

I've been using Keepass for the longest time and I'm wondering if I should take this opportunity to switch over to a paid application for free.

    • +2

Does KeePass intergrate with Chrome/Firefox yet?

      • hmmm, so it auto fill in user/pass?
There is "auto type" functionality in keepass, haven't tested it out though, it may do that…

I really only use keepass as a password vault.

isn't that what the remember this password is for though? (built in functionality in web browsers)

    • +1

Correct me if I'm wrong. Keepass is mainly Win. All other platform 'support' are either Mono or Wine, which is not me taste. I prefer native App.
Besides, KeePass is too geek to use for normal folks.

      • Keepass has a Linux version, not sure about Mac.

      • too geek? maybe a computer or other platforms is too geek for you to use as well then?

  • I don't understand the need for this - how is this any different to saving passwords to chrome / safari aswell as using the randomly generated ones they can provide and save?

Honest question, not looking to google for an answer, it could've been done before i finish typing this whole question out - but from another persons perspective, why?

    • Same. In the occasional instance you need a password to log into an app (e.g. eBay) then your password is but a quick search away in your Safari settings or Keychain in Mac OS X.

    • Can't speak for 1Pass, but LastPass also offers other secure storage (documents, software licenses, etc.), as well as automatically changing your password without having to log in, setting expiry reminders, and other useful features.

    • +1

I like this app better than any in-built ones because of several reasons (there might be more, but these are what do it for me:

      1) The app suggests very powerful passwords
      2) The passwords are cross-platform. That is, you are not locked to a browser or OS or device. And the app allows you to copy and paste to log into apps for example.
      3) You can generate passwords to anything. Including credit card pins, phone numbers, secure notes

At this point anytime I make a password I turn to the app directly. It's easier, faster and more secure.

    • I use multiple browsers (Firefox, Chrome and Safari) across a laptop and desktop, so having a central place to access the same passwords is very convenient. Yes I could use the syncing services of the browsers, but then I'd have duplication. Also the integration with iPhone Safari is very good and is super easy to access through TouchID.

    • It's quicker to access passwords than to go through settings, Safari, etc. I also use it to store details for things like licenses, passwords, bank accounts, and secret questions. Hope that helps.

    • sorry much more of a noob question but what does this do?
keep passwords on the laptop like how chrome saves password?

so its an application on a MAC/PC (not on an app)

but this is a password generation tool?
      sorry very confused

  • I have already spent money buying the iOS and Android versions (on my iPhone and Samsung tablet), to pay more for Windows and Mac versions of 1Password (for my desktop PC and Macbook Pro) is getting too much for me :(

  • I moved to this when LastPass was bought last year. It's very good.

  • I use Keeper on macs,iPads and iPhones. Great App.

  • Worth mentioning that it won't sync over iCloud if purchased at their website (you need a Mac App Store version for that). Not sure why they don't disclose that on the main page.

    • +2

As of version 6.0 (which came out last week), you can now sync over iCloud without buying the App Store version.

      • +1

Thanks, did not know that. Looks like they used a non-native workaround to achieve that (the app will be communicating to iCloud web services directly instead of using OS X for that), however, that indeed should work.

  • Thanks OP! Just what I needed!

  • What's the easiest way to get a fake student email? This questions qualifies me as a genuine student with a thirst for knowledge.

"This is the educational store which allows students and faculty to save 20% on every purchase. Please use your current university email address to purchase. If you do not have one but you have an active student or faculty ID, you can still purchase now and have your ID available in case we contact you"

  • I'm using LastPass and took a quick look.

    1) LastPass has an option to autologin as soon as you go to a site. 1Password seems to need a couple of clicks, even when autologin is set. Is that correct?

    2) LastPass offers 2FA but I couldn't see how to do this for 1Password.

    3) Can you choose any syncing service you like? Eg google drive instead of dropbox?

    4) Seems to be hard to quit the app - icon remains in the Windows tray with no quit option

    • +4

      1) Easiest way is to configure a keyboard shortcut to automatically fill in
      2) No such option with 1password
      3) No
      4) Correct

I've switched between lastpass and 1password a couple of times in the past few years(used 1password for over 6 months) and settled with LastPass at the end.

      • No autologin is very unusual for a reputable company
        Keyboard shortcut is not ideal
Lastpass is great but charges each year for mobile access and the usd is high

      • 2) Unlike LastPass, which has a web interface, 1Password can only be accessed through a device which has been authorised to sync with your 'Vault' - which is decrypted using your master-password. Because of this, it doesn't really make sense to have 2FA.
        3) Though you can't use Google Drive as a syncing service, you do have the choice (if using Apple devices) to sync your data with iCloud rather than Dropbox.

        • iCloud drive only works with 1Password on Mac OS and iOS
With DropBox, 1Password creates a file in your root folder along with a folder in "Apps" which both can't be moved.

      • +1

I switched from 1password to lastpass as I was sick of buying clients for different platforms. Also, the upgrades to newer versions required paying again. Considering I have OSX windows ios and android, it was getting quite expensive.

I also prefer 2FA on my password solutions (e.g. keepass) I use certs/google authenticator with Lastpass.

  • thank..just bought it

  • Thanks OP!
    Bought it, Perfect timing! :)

  • +1
    • Nothing to worry about:
"We've released an update that will prevent a user from being logged out by the phishing tool, thereby mitigating the risk of the phishing attack. In addition, LastPass has a built-in security alert to let you know when you've entered your master password into a non-LastPass web form."

  • Serious - How does this compare to a free app like KeePass? Why would I want to spend money on this to get a Win licence?

    • +1

      Keepass is ugly
Does not support touchId (maybe some unoffical versions do but can they be trusted)
I am not sure if keepass syncs easily between phone and desktop

    • if you're using windows then it's fine, on Mac Keepass has quite a few limitation when running it on Mono, sometimes it took ages to load up, copy and paste doesn't work.

  • +3

This is indeed a very good deal. Searching "1passowrd" in my outlook, I paid $34.99 for Windows version, $43.99 for Mac version and $14.99 for iOS version all in USD. That's about 8 years Lastpass premium subscription which I like more after extensive/long-term comparison.
Good thing with 1Password is they have 30 day money back guarantee, I suggest trying both 1password and lastpass for yourself.

  • +2

The educational bundle price is especially a good deal.

I've being using 1Password on iOS, OS X, and Windows since 2012 and haven't regretted paying +$50USD for the lot.

  • Used both and much prefer lastpass (although slightly worried about their new parent company)

As mentioned the 30 day money back thing means you can try it out.

MacPowerUsers doesnt seem to be working anymore?

    • Not woking for me either :(

  • There was a temporary bug, but it has been fixed.

    • Still not working for me. How did you get it to work?

  • I have PC, Android phone and iPad. Which product should I buy?

    • download free APP for your Android phone, buy Windows licence

Couldn't apply coupon code for educational account, anyone else had the same problem?
