Foxtel from Telstra - 3 Months Plat HD Free - $0 Install & No Lock in Contract - New Customers » All Comments

  • +1

    Great deal!
    *telstra customers only (obviously)

    • Foxtel for Telstra: Service not available in all areas or homes. Non-standard installation may be more. You need an eligible Telstra Voice, Post-Paid mobile or home broadband service on a Single Bill or active Telstra Pre-Paid Mobile

    • I don't have a Telstra service, but when I put in my details, I was offered the same 3 months deal.

      • You can just activate a $2 prepaid sim.

FYI: You can also sign up at JB Hi-fi as they are a authorised telstra dealer.

      • +1

It jsut means the deal is through Telstra, not Foxtel. You don't have to have existing services.

        • Sorry, im new to this. Does this mean I dont need to buy any telstra product.I phoned them up and the lady said I needed to be a customer.

So I filled through the form online and completed it anyway. Will they make you purchase any other service to get this product

        • +1

As in by getting Foxtel, you become a Telstra customer. There are two different companies that sell Foxtel, Foxtel is one company and the other is Telstra. So in order for this deal, you need to get foxtel, through Telstra.

You do not need any other services just Foxtel.

        • @ONEMariachi: thanks, I can make sense of that now.

    • +5

Don't need to be a Telstra customer or have any Telstra services. I've confirmed this with Foxtel Sales.

  • +16

A great bargain, but the sign of a business undergoing a lot of challenges.

    • +3

Agreed, but I don't think many feel the least bit sorry for them.

  • +30

$134 per month after 3 months. Who would pay that?

    • +38

No one. That's why they're giving it away and hoping you forget to cancel.

      • +1

On paper, their marketing direction is to 'give customers a taste to show that it's worth the price'. Because that's the issue, not the outdated business model.

Also, I would very much doubt their agenda is to cash in from 'forgetten' 1 month charges. About 7 years ago, they didn't break even on a customer until something like 11 months in (hence the 24 month contract).

    • +2

I think rather than hoping you forget to cancel, they think you will enjoy the service enough to remain one one of the plans.

Lowest priced option is $25 per week (+ $25 for sports pack, which is the main reason for getting foxtel obviously… EPL + AFL!).

  • +26

Bet they won't even get 1 ozbargainer to stay after 3 months

    • I'd stay for footy season on the cheapest sports package. Cancel before the first weekend of September!

      • -12

Surely Channel 9's games are enough. How much football does one need? Unless you support some d grade team that gets no air time.

The advantage of living in Brisbane is Broncos games are telecasted for free 90% of the time.

        • +2

I was talking about Aussie rules. Being in Sydney you don't get every game unfortunately (I have found myself watching 6 or 7 games a weekend sometimes when I've had access to Foxtel)

        • -9

          @chillybags:
Oh AFL. I often forget that thing exists ;)

        • -2

          @PainToad:
          How unAustralian.
          The national game, our game.

        • +3

@chillybags: I watch all the NRL games free on livestream using HOLA VPN extension on chrome.

        • +10

          @Utopian:

          The Victorian game, your game.

        • +1

Only the glamour teams get a good run on FTA.

        • @buddyandy: Hey mate whats the quality like? What region do you pick? I have Foxtel but am gonna call them soon threatening to cancel etc (will try n get above promo though) so if i do have to call their bluff and cancel i'd love to stream if decent quality…

        • @Xizor: You get good quality and if you are ok to pay extra 5$ ,you can ad free streams..it works if you choose Germany or any other European countries

        • +8
        • +5

@PainToad: hahaha… The irony. And i don't even follow it.

Bigger crowds, supporter base, 10x the players, oldest clubs/code/league, nationally played/supported… And drum roll… Australian created game.

          Blinkers much?

        • -7

          @Utopian:

          Australian created game.

Actually it's nothing more than a rip off of Gaelic Football.

          nationally played/supported

Yes in the second biggest state. The first and third biggest states simply tolerate its existence.

Bigger crowds, supporter base, 10x the players, oldest clubs/code/league

Got to find something to do in Victoria's terrible climate.

        • @PainToad: why? Cos it's the most popular sport in Australia?

        • -4

@Utopian: Sydneysider here. Why would I want to watch Melbourne suburbs play each other? NRL master race.

        • +6

@zeitgeb3r: NRL masterrace that cant even fill a stadium so they give tickets away. make me laugh.

        • @buddyandy: Hola and Chrome are botnets

        • @PainToad: False statements and hate, nice. Check out some facts, not just in your village. We'll start with Australian Rules being older than Gaelic football.

        • @buddyandy:
and that looks fine on a big screen TV?

        • -1

          @Utopian:

          Gaelic football created in Australia?

        • @chillybags: telstra had free AFL passes a few weeks back

      • Yeah sport is the only reason I still have Foxtel.

        • What's the cost of the most basic package that will include all afl games? Online streams in sub SD isn't the most exciting way to watch it

        • @OldBugger: $50/month ($25 for base package, $25 for sport). Although if you want HD, its an extra $10/month.

        • @itsMartin: cheers. So I could grab this deal, free foxtel till April, then start paying the $50/m till September then cancel?

        • +1

@OldBugger: Yes, Foxtel will let you change packages every month without fees, so if you signed up with no contract and changed to the lowest sports option (here, for reference) then you'd be sweet to cancel after your team bombs out in September.

      • +4

        Richmond supporter?

        • Is that directed to me? Na I'm swans but absolutely in love with the game and watch pretty much all the games :)

  • +33

I can honestly say ive don't even want this for free.
I tried to Foxtel go trial and got bored after the first hours of nothing.

    • +2

      ^^ this

    • +16

Pay to watch ads? F*** OFF.

  • +1

I've often wondered with Foxtel, what happens to the box when you disconnect? Can you continue to use it? Those Foxtel set top boxes are really great PVRs.

    • You can either buy the box, rent it or send it back for free via australia post.

    • +3

Can't be used for anything and must be returned.

      • +1

There you go. I have Foxtel, I thought you had paid for it when you signed up for the service.

        • +2

That's probably one of the myriad options in the sales process where you will "need" to buy the box.

After you say "no" the "need" goes away and Telstra moves onto the next step in attempting to extract as much value from you as possible whilst giving you as little as possible in return.

      • +1

like practically everything you've said in this post @PainToad that's completely incorrect.

They let you keep the box without a foxtel subscription for $5 a month if you want to use it for FTA.

        • Really? I have never heard of this. Not saying you are wrong. Just never came across someone with FTA only. THats pretty good if correct.

  • +23

Free 3 months expires pretty much just as Game of Thrones season 6 starts. Crafty. ;)

    • Came in looking for this information. Thank you. Will disregard the offer.

    • +4

The promotion is running until June 30th, so simply wait until March/April to sign up. It's not crafty, you just have to read the promotional information :)

      • Could you please point to the URL and location of the expiry date for this offer? I couldn't find it with a bit of effort.
        thanks!

        • A dude from JB hifi telstra team looked it up and found it internally to be april 30. So dunno which one it is.

  • -1

    Good deal!

  • +1

    Great deal.
Sure some of you may not want Foxtel, but for those who do, it's a pretty good deal to me.
We have the full package here and we easily get our money's worth, but as always, each to their own.

Thanks for the heads up mate. My parents have been considering signing up. Will pass the info on.

    • +1

How can you justify $134 a month on TV? Do you not have decent internet in your area? Not having a dig, genuinely interested?

      • +9

Sport. I have it for sport, which i dare say, is what gets the majority of subscribers. A-league, NRL, AFL, MLB, NFL and NHL.
Got sick of trying to watch glitchy, dodgy streams online.

        • +4

Same here for me… i want to get rid of Foxtel desperately but online stream options in particular A-League and NRL were terrible last time i checked (which was a while ago i might add). For a sports lover, if you cannot be their live, it's hard to go back from HD…

      • +9

        @PainToad…
Between myself, the wife and 6 kids, that's A LOT of different shows and most of them can only be accessed via Foxtel or if we downloaded them and that would be A LOT of downloading.
We couldn't snatch that much content online if we wanted to as we are in the bush and the internet speeds and stability are rubbish.

We don't drink, smoke or like to eat out, so we're happy to spend the dollars on Foxtel instead.

  • +4

I'm interested, can you choose either iq2 or 3? Still free? Do we know how much notice to give to cancel?

    • +1

From various reports, IQ3 box is crap…freezes, reboots etc. People have returned their IQ3 and got an IQ2 instead.

      • Yeah, go IQ2, box works pretty well perfectly. IQ3 still has quite a few bugs and have quite a few people "downgrading" back to IQ2. IQ3 also has remote issues still and lags a bit in menus. Plus what shadowwarrior mentioned.

    • IQ2 is the box included in this promotion; electing for IQ3 will attract a surcharge.

  • +5

    Hey Guys,

How is this a 3 month contract?

    Set-top unit and installation
You will require a Foxtel from Telstra set-top unit for your service.
In addition to the monthly subscription for the package you choose,
you’ll need to pay any applicable equipment charges for the set-top
    unit and installation charges.
The following standard installation and equipment fees apply:
    • Standard installation fee for primary outlet – $100
(additional costs may apply for non-standard installations
such as installations that are more complex or in some remote/
    regional areas)
    • One-off equipment fee:
− Foxtel iQ3 recordable device (HD device available nationally and
includes 1TB hard drive for storing recorded content) – $200
− Foxtel iQ2 recordable device (HD device available nationally and
includes 320GB hard drive for storing recorded content) – $75
− MyStar2 recordable device (HD device regional only and
includes 320GB hard drive for storing recorded content) – $75.
    Minimum term
    12 months.

Even thought the front page says,
    No set-up costs
    No contract
    No cancellation fees

When you go through the signup process, it ensures you have ticked the Critical check box licence terms and agreement, which states 12 months.

I am giving this a negative.

    • -1

Typical Telstra behaviour. Their whole sales process for multiple types of services is basically an elaborate bait and switch game.

I do not understand why they're allowed to behave like this but I guess having your best friend Turnbull**** in power can't fail to help.

    • I cannot disagree with you mate!

    • Like most of the Telstra (and Optus) deals the T&C's don't match up with the actual offer. I've taken a screen shot of the offer page and have a saved transcript from online chat indicating that there is definitely no exit fee.

    • +2

Umm - I just called them up and went through the process and it was very easy? Everything was confirmed as being free for three months including all setup costs and no lock in contract. I've never had Foxtel before but don't intend on keeping after the 3 months.

I'm not sure what you did wrong to get all that other information, Karlos?

      • IMO It's going to be a major hassle getting out of the contract when Tuesday 26th of April comes around. Be ready to be on hold for 2hrs plus.

        • +2

Pro tip, get a reference number, get them to repeat the information in the interaction that they left, eg the 3 months free with no lock and no set up fees. Then call "cancellation department, you'll get someone in Adelaide. It's easy as piss.`10 minute call max.

      • Yaa, I did call as well and the lady pretty much confirmed multiple times that I don't have to pay anything for first 3 months including they box. If I cancel after 3 months (which is also free), I need to return the box, that's all.

So, either they are lying, or this hard to believe offer is actually true.

      • hi did u get the service i just called and was informed that i needed to purchase any other telstra service to avail of this offer…the cheapest offer they had was a 25$prepaid sim

        • dont you have another Telstra service, thats one of the conditions - you need to have a phone, mobile, broadband with Telstra.

        • [@PVA]

          thx for the prompt reply

i don't use telstra for any service:)

        • I didn't take at the end as I though I am not going to see those channels much. But I did ask about existing Telstra service thing and I was informed it is okay if I buy a $2 SIM.

    • Karlos, you are correct in that the Terms and Conditions don't match the offer. However, I did my signup online and at the end you get a printout of your order - which does match the offer. Go figure … anyway, that will do me. Telstra must figure that a certain percentage of people will forget to cut the service after 3 months and/or a certain percentage will keep the service regardless. I doubt if there will be too many Ozbargainers in either group :-)

    • +2

When we process this order internally, an "ETC waiver" item is added to your order. Essentially whenever you choose to cancel, even if the system generates an ETC for 12 months, that additional line automatically waives it.

Despite the general scepticism on OzBargain regarding contracts and Telcos, there's no sneaky business here - you are bound to what you contractually agree to, which is 3 months free with no minimum term.

  • +2

Wow! This has to be the deal of the month!

    • +8

Really? It's just Foxtel… Nothing to get excited about.

Although actually, might sign up after I get back from holidays in April, use it for a few months for AFL then cancel. Cost Telstra and Foxtel some $$.

  • You have to buy the equipment either IQ2 or IQ3.

    • +4

      Nope - come with IQ2 free…

      • Is this confirmed, on the critical info it says you have to pay!

        • +1

The critical info is old- they need to update it, can confirm it is free IQ2, that deal has been going on for 3 months now.

  • +2

For me personally, the content is not worth the hassle of signing up for a Telstra pre paid account (?), getting the satellite / cabling installed (always paranoid when tradies are on or in our roof), installing the stb, configuring the harmony remote, then after three months, calling them to cancel, sending back the stb etc etc.

Sounds like I should be handing in my OzBargain badge lol!

Saying that, it would be great if we can sign up but not install the satellite and stb, and just use the account for Foxtel Play / Foxtel Go on the Smart TV, game console, HTPC, tablet etc…

    • Cant you just select the Self Install option so you can do this. I believe the self install kit presumes you already have satellite/cables etc.

      • +1

All foxtel installs are technicians set ups. It's to combat people giving boxes to friends.

        • why would you give the box to friends? It's unusable without the subs right?

        • +2

          @fm:
By giving box to friends I think he means, you sign up and order 2 boxes. Keep one and give one to a friend. Provided they have a foxtel satellite already hooked up in their home it should work no problem and you just split the bill. Been doing this with my brother in law for last 2+years.

        • @caspochek: will it work interstate? My bro in law of vessels interstate.

          That would be wonderful.

        • @fm:
Not sure mate, i took my box to test at his house before I canceled mine. I think with satellite it should work, I dont know about cable installation though. Try whirlpool perhaps?

        • @fm: I know of people who bought their own sat dish and take it caravanning around Aus. If course, Foxtel can't tell that "it never left the house".
If your mate has cable and you get satellite, no go (or roles swapped)

        • +1

Can confirm I am doing this, my box plus one for my dad :D - we are both cable.

  • Does anyone know if you can get Foxtel from Telstra using Belong. Would Foxtel play/go be unmetered on Belong?

    • no
      its a budget provider
all data is counted im pretty sure
technically it uses the telstra network but i seriously doubt youll get the same benefits as a full paying telstra customer

stripped down belong for a reason (:

its like buying a v8 and limiting it to 4 cylinders thats the belong equivalent of telstra
dont get me wrong theyre good value but they cut out most of the full blown telstra stuff

      • telstra top ups 3 times a year
      • double nbn data
      • telstra air if thats your thing
      • bundling discount
      • telstra line profile changing for adsl speed optimization etc

i seriously doubt theyll offer belong customers much more than the barebones adsl and home phone setup you get at a reduced rate

    • While Belong is owned by Telstra, it is operated by the Boost division therefore making Belong and Telstra official services unrelated. Foxtel is a part of Telstra services, so in signing up to this deal you agree to creating a Telstra account, pending a successful credit check.

  • +4

Since FOXTEL is half owned by Murdoch, and his dirty business, I rather keep it out of my home! A big NEGATIVE from me… Plus it's not really a bargain, a way of trapping customers!

    • +8

Or you could sign up and cancel and get a warm glow from knowing that you negatively impacted his bottom line.

      • That depends, if its use did indeed persuade people for his motivations then he wins too.

  • +1

I dont see what's the hassle with those being negative about this deal? It's quite easy to cancel (i've done it myself ;)… it's a seamless process, it's not like you have to go through hoops just to cancel the service after a contract (cough fitness first)

  • +1

The free install is worthwhile. I didn't have a TV point in the bedroom previously, but now I do, for free. Managed to get the installer to run a parallel cat6 cable at the same time also. Had to do my own crimping, but sure beats having to climb up on the roof myself.

Helps that all the cabling goes back to a central cabinet in the house, one of those clipsal star serve boxes.

  • About 8-9 years ago, they did this as a targeted door-knocking campaign in units. 1 month free, no contract, free install.

After about 3 months, they worked out that only 18-19% stayed on after the first free month, so they canned it.

  • Has anyone seen when this promotion runs til - I'm going away soon so would like to hold off til I come back to sign up…

    • +6

Valid til end of April (confirmed with Foxtel)

      • -1

Thank you sir. Have yourself a nice Australia Day

      • -1

That is nice timing, my wife is into Game of Thrones…

        • +1

          Hook, line and sinker.

    • +1

You could choose the installation date for when you're back, your start date for the 3 months starts when your service is activated

      • Ah ok perfect!

    • This offer expires in late June.

  • +2

Thanks OP, this post prompted me to ring Foxtel and crack the shits. I've got Platinum HD multi-room at $159/month. But rather than singing up a new separate household member at the same address to take advantage of this offer with all the nuisances of disconnect/connect logistics, I threatened to cancel and played hardball (demanding to be put through to cancellations after they several petty offers). I'm now saving $500 ($45 less)for the next 12 months. So for existing customers, you too can effectively attract 3 months free too!

I did something similar to this last year, so clearly Foxtel is much like a credit card provider with waiving (reducing) their annual fee depending on how much you spend etc.

    • Only paying $65 bucks but will give this a try.

  • +3

When does this deal end? I want to start it as later as possible in time for the f1!

    • +1

End of April according to a couple of posts above

      • Awesome! Thanks.

    • This offer concludes (unless extended) in late June.

  • +2

Foxtel are struggling so hard… Serves them right after losing the EPL rights.

  • This sounds like a pretty good way for me to watch high quality EPL without having to look for streams… :)

    • -1

      Foxtel don't show epl awks

      • Wait what?!? Since when?
Oh was this that news about Optus TV (or whoever it was) winning the rights so Foxtel no longer have it?

        • Then I would stick with ronaldo7.net

      • +1

They do until the end of the current season. Then optus takes over.

  • I already have a Foxtel point in my bedroom but want to watch TV in the living area:

    1. Will a technician still need to come?
    2. Can I somehow stream TV from bedroom to living?
    • Unofficial solution- you can run a HDMI splitter cable from the bedroom to the living area. Anything veing shown from the bedroom is also visible in the living area.

      • Thanks for the insight. What options do I have if the bedroom is on the 2nd storey and the living is on the ground floor? I don't suppose CAT6 via Patch panel will be supported?

        • I use an AV sender over ethernet (can get wireless and HDMI versions too) to send my FetchTV to the bedroom from the theatre:

          http://www.jaycar.com.au/Sight-%26-Sound---Home/AV-Switchers…

        • Oh my! Don't think we'll be watching TV from the lounge then, considering the price. Thanks for the advice.

        • @dmpiq:

As a foxtel subscriber, isn't it possible to use foxtel play on a device in the second room? Provided that room is hooked to Internet of course

        • The CAT6 via patch panel may work. You'll need a HDMI over ethernet adapter ($50-100), and patch from one port directly to the other to join the rooms (ie. not via a switch/hub). Personally I tried connecting from the patch panel directly to my device, with the other device sitting in another room and that worked.

    • Yeah a technician will still have to be booked, it's their way of stopping people from dodging up the system(multiple boxes given to friends)

  • I need some help guys. I live in the second unit of a 4 unit residence. Unfortunately I only get ADSL2+ in Noble Park and terrible speeds being very far from the exchange. Our street however has Telstra Cable, but our residence does not. When I called Telstra to ask for Cable to be set up on our property, I was quoted a figure of $1000 for it to be brought over from the street, and that it would apply for all 4 units.

My question is, if I sign up for this Foxtel deal, does that mean that Telstra will have to inadvertently bring the cable lines into the house? Or am I completely mistaken?

    • +1

You are mistaken. That is not a standard install and there is a note about it not being free.

    • +1

Its unlikely, although not impossible. In many cases they would just put the satelite dish on. It depends what is cheaper for them and the mood of the cabling guy.

I got foxtel with cable - not sat - installed for free in an apartment on the first floor around 20-30 metres from the street. Didn't ask they just did it that way. Luck of the draw I think. Don't mention your previous quote or you will def be paying for a non standard install.

Otherwise just wait for NBN and it will be free.

    • How do you tell if will be a standard install or not? Can you tell if they'll be installing a satellite vs cable?

I'm in the same situation with a group of 6 units. When I key in my address on the Telstra Foxtel website it tells me "GREAT NEWS, FOXTEL FROM TELSTRA IS AVAILABLE". Does this mean I won't be charged an install fee?

      • You could say that the BC has restrictions on satellite and you can only use cable. See what they say

        • Great idea! Any idea if the Foxtel cable is the same as the BigPond broadband cable?

        • @atlas: Not certain - but after install of fox my apartment shows Telstra cable as 'available'.

      • You wont know until the first install date when a tech arrives. But IF it is a customised install, then they will need to get a quote for you, and you will need to approve the price of the quote before going ahead with it. If it doesnt go ahead you dont get charged anything.

  • No EPL next season..no thanks!

    • Huh?

      • +2

They lost English Premier League live coverage to Optus..

        • what is Optus going to do with an EPL subscription….

        • @MasterNoob:

That's the big question mark for all epl fans.. Wondering the same thing myself

        • most likely they will stream it via a samsung or chromecast app. at a low price point. and then also on sell the rights to foxtel so they can have it as part of their package.

        • @porsche26c:
I feel like this is the most likely situation. I would be surprised if foxtel didnt work out something to show the games as well.

  • Foxtel.com homepage says offer ends 6th Feb, not end of April as someone said above.

Edit: Sorry, that's a slightly different $0 offer

    • -1

Would you please give me the link to foxtel website?

  • My Apartment has Foxtel points on the wall already - but it wants me to book an appointment for a tech. Is there a self install option, and if so, how do I access it?

    • Well, I rang them and they said they have to roll a tech for any new installs (even though my apartment has service already).

Which is a pain, as their install appointments are business hours only, which of course is when I am at work.

      • Saturdays should be available too, generally an 8-10, 10-2 bracket.

        • Well, there are no Saturday dates available within the Feb-Mar dates provided. Every Sat/Sun is greyed out

        • Could very well be full up.

        • Saturdays are 7-10 10-2 and 2-5, sundays are only 7-10 and 10-2. These time brackets they dont make clear, its arrival between 7-10.

the best way to watch AFL for a reasonable fee is to use an Android tablet with the afl live app and a HDMI out cable into a TV for $90 / year for all games
This is obviously only worth it if you watch a lot of footy
sadly i don't have any deals for beers or pies, happy Australia day everyone :)

    • How did you get the HDMI out cable working? It doesn't work for me, says that streaming to a tv is unavailable

      • Samsung you can use an app called SideSync, not sure on other brands. Used my Note 3 with HDMI to TV last year for AFL (with free AFL Live subscription from Ozbargain deal, lol)

        • Interesting, I have the samsung tab, might try this then. Cheers legend!

        • I have a hyundai T7s android tablet, just plugged in the HDMI cable, TV mirrored what was on the tablet and worked great. Tablet is rooted but that shouldn't make any difference

      • I watched on my tv using a chromecast last year, Android phone, go into chromecast app and cast screen

        • i have heard reports that you'll run into issues trying to stream afl using android app using chromecast / wireless, if you choose this option do some more research :)

        • @sraven373:

No issues on my side, watched a dozen games last season on the chromecast by casting screen through the app.

        • @mrned: thanks, good to know

    • +2

The pass was free is you created a fantasy football team and the quality is terrible. Quality of WatchAFL is much better but it's more expensive and you need a Smart DNS or VPN service.

      • That was one of the busiest days on Ozbargain I've ever seen when that got announced!

  • I don't watch sports and I doubt I'd ever watch much live broadcast so I might just stick to Netflix. Good deal nonetheless

  • +2

Thinking of investing in Telstra shares,

    • +1

      How about gift cards?

  • +1

    So after the 3 months,
Can i effectively say i want to go onto a package that is sports in HD and the basic normal pack?
Without any fees? also how much would it be?

    • Yes, $60 pm.

      • That's awesome, since i only want it for football.

  • It is worth noting that this seems to be online only at the moment. I just looked through our internal knowledge data base and there is no reference to it being available in Telstra stores. Possibly available in the call centres though.

    • +1

I can confirm it's available in call centres. I can stop using my friend's Foxtel Go login for 3 months. Thanks Ozbargain.

      • Awesome, cheers for letting us know!

    • Hey, while im sure it's not something that Foxtel likes occurring, maybe you could (in dot point form) Identify the steps involved in Cancelling with the least amount of hassle when the 3 months are up? Massive Brownie Points to you if you can do this for us!

      • +9

        For sure dude,

What I usually do to protect myself, when siging up. Is first ask for a reference number to the interaction on the system. This is our noting system that everyone else in the business/ombudsman can see.
I then get them to repeat what they wrote in there- make sure to note the contract term, exact price per month, and deals.
Then i get them to repeat it a second time, as sometimes you will get who will just say things. to make you happy. If they repeat it you can catch them out for doing that, as no one can remember word for word what they jsut said when they're not trying to remember.
once that is done. When it comes down to cancelling, you should have no issues. The ammount of times i've set up deals for me/friends like this and never had a problem is immense.
Here is a direct number to our cancellatons team in Adelaide for reference as well. 1800 218 964. Incredibly well trained, good mannered team. Never ever had an issue with them myself or when sending customers to them.

  • Don't think this has been mentioned yet but there is no "retention" deals available for Foxtel via Telstra. They JDGAF if you cancel. Big Whirlpool thread on this.

With Foxtel I used to regularly call up and threaten to cancel, and get 50% off for 3 months. Rinse and repeat every 3 months for 2 years lol.

    • +1

Depends what point of time it is in the year, sometimes there is sometimes there isn't. Depends how the system is set up and what deals are currently available. We're limited by what the system can do. But there definitely is retention deals, most of the time it will be in regards to other services though. So $10 off your mobile if you stay with Telstra kinda deal.

      • Still, not the same as Foxtel. I was paying like $30-35 a month for a long time for Sports + HD

  • Any chance of getting the deal via XBOX? I have a shitty landlord who doesn't allow foxtel dish to be installed on his property.

  • @ONEMariachi
Can you confirm this deal expiry date? Some say Feb but others say Apr.

    • I don't specifically know the expiry, but I just completed the order process (online) and chose to have the installation done on the 25th of March.

  • I just signed up.

Once you've processed the order it has a page with your order number and the below

    "Order Summary

    3 months Platinum HD free
    No set-up costs
    No contract
    No cancellation fees"

I'd say taking a screenshot of that will help and be enough

edit: they also send you an email stating that.

  • -6

Can you cancel after 3 months or do you have to downgrade and stuck for 12-24 months?

    • +2

It's literally right there in the deal's description.

      SPECIAL OFFER
      No set-up costs
      No contract
      No cancellation fees

  • -2

It just seems a little too good to be right, get 3 months of foxtel for no cost?

  • So do we get to keep the equipment? Iq2 or iq3 since there is an upfront cost to it?

    • There is a $200 cost if you upgrade to iq3.

      • You dont get to keep it, there is equipment cost. However you still need to return it at the end. If you dont return the box when you cancel there is a fee (i think its about 300).

  • Honestly no idea why you would want this. My friend has Foxtel and it's garbage - just full of non stop ads and the price he pays is ridiculous. I've tried to convert him to Netflix or stan but they don't understand the tech and process and think it's too hard for some reason. Hence a lot of Foxtel customers must continue to pay just because it's what they have always known. I have ozbargain free trials of both presto and stan. Presto is crap but stan is ok (wouldn't personally pay for it though). This means continue downloading or pay for Netflix (which I think is a bargain compared to Foxtel) as long as the vpn will work with it.

    • +10

"Honestly no idea why you would want this."
      Because it's free.

      • .. free .. THEY have NO idea ..

    • +6

      Sport. That's it.

  • What about rental properties? Would I need approval from the landlord o.o?

    • +1

I would seek permission regardless. My previous rental owner didn't give a sh!t. I notified the RE the day the technician came out and they said the owner really didn't care.

But my former roommate did Foxtel installations and when he called customers the night before the day of installation, one of the questions was "do you have permission from the landlord?". All you're doing is raising the value of the property IMO.

      • -3

or Decreasing with foxtel cable run all over the outside of the house

        • +1

          ????

Not sure what you're talking about.

        • @Dagmar: Telstra techs will try and just run cable around outside of house and punch the cable in from outside instead of neat internal runs

        • @asa79:

Ahh, my roommate worked for a contracting company. Had nothing to do with Telstra.

        • @asa79:
Most will try to do it internally, its much quicker to run it internally and cheaper. However its not alway possible. Most techs hate running conduit. You may get the occasional shit (profanity), but most arent too bad. Thats gonna happen with all types of workers in all fields though, always a couple of shit ones.

      • +1

        Thanks for that :)

  • If the deal does finish at the end of April, hold off until then. You can then get it just in time for the entire season 6 of Game of Thrones :D

  • +1

Just signed up and got the iq3 for free. They said it's free. I checked 4/5 times.

    • Was this on the phone? I signed up online and the iq3 was an extra $100 $200 compared to the free iq2.

      • Yes over the phone.

    • online it says $200 upfront for iq3

      • My mistake. Either way, not free, which is why I went with the iq2.

        • Take the IQ2 over the IQ3 anyway, much more stable unit.

  • +1

Thought Foxtel would be dead by now

  • +1

Ordered, thanks OP! Says online you can only book your appointment up to 60 business days away, so late I could book was 29th March. Will catch some of GoT at least.

    • +1

      You'll catch all of it.

      • Just! Assuming they air it express from the US, you'll have 2 days left after the last episode.

        • +1

GoT is being simulcast on Foxtel, shown at the same time as in the U.S.

  • Just received an email stating the order has been cancelled. "unfortunately"

    • +2

wow they don't like your cash ?

    • Mine was cancelled too, any idea why they are cancelling some and not others?

    • Same.

    • Currently on the phone to Telstra Business Online Shop. There was no reason on my file why it was cancelled and service definitely available, so they are re-processing it manually. Will let you know how it goes to save you the hour long phone call.

      • I was on their online chat. Originally was told I need to call up, was planning too. But thought I'd do a new chat and ask if I needed a Telstra service to be able to get this offer. The second chat rep said similar sort of thing. Saying that the Foxtel dept.'s system for some reason cancelled the install….he asked if he could ring me after he spoke with the Foxtel team, he rang me and said its all sorted, i Should get a confirmation email in 48 hours

        • I had to email proof of occupancy since the previous owner didn't cancel their Foxtel properly (not surprising since he went bankrupt). So I have had to email my Telstra bill which shows my address to Telstra, go figure.

  • Thanks - awesome deal! Just singed up online. The critical information summary is incorrect - but the confirmation email confirms the deal.

  • Yeah just spent 2hrs on Telstra's online chat thing confirming no fees like the CIS states and geez gave me a good reminder not to have anything to do with them ever again.

    • what do you mean by the CIS states?

      • That you're liable to pay for the iQ box, which apparently isn't the case here but contradictory as usual and great Telstra service to top it off with.

  • Thank you for your post.

  • All I want to do is watch the Supercross, on this would it be possible? I can't access the site atm and I know it airs on Fox Sports 1 (USA) channel or Fox Sports 2.

  • Hoping someone can help me out with this one:

I bought a new house that doesn't come with an antenna or coax, or as far as I know anything for me to watch TV on except through my ADSL2. Will the install benefit me in any way if I cancel, for watching just Free to air TV?

    • -1

      No

    • Guessing here, but I don't see how you couldn't unscrew the F-type connection of the satellite dish and screw it onto an external antenna to get FTA channels???

      • Because a satellite is not an antenna….

        • Yeah hence why I said unscrew from satellite

        • A satellite dish is in fact a type of antenna.

        • +1

@cowiie: Sorry - I get you now. Good call!

    • +1

      Actually yes it could.
You buy a VAST satellite receiver box eg. Altech, which uses exactly the same dish and cabling as Foxtel to watch all Free to Air TV.
Mine cost around $250 and was purchased to use in my caravan - but it works just as well attached to my TV at home.
You might baulk at paying $250 but how much does it cost for a digital aerial including installation?

    • I'm thinking same.
Have no antennas on my house.
Thinking i go for this, get free install of cables and wall plugs and then just disconnect the Sat antenna and put in its place a digital FTA antenna, saving me the costs of install coax and wall plates etC

  • Currently have Foxtel direct from them.
Moving house next month. If I get Foxtel through Telstra, am I considered a new customer for this deal?

  • Just called the 1800 676 088 number and the lady I spoke with said the 3 months free was only for the "HD Channels" and therefore would still be required to pay $110 per month(assuming I chose the platinum package).

    • She's wrong. Their website clearly says 3 months for $0.

    • +1

it does say save 577 on the offer.

  • +1

Thanks OP! I've been missing F1 badly and can't go another year without it. So I just told my bride, darling, I've just ordered Foxtel for your birthday! :)

    • +1

I had forgotten all about channel 10's pathetic f1 coverage last year will be good to not have to watch races online.

  • Thanks, signed up but half expect it not to be honored

  • I recently cancelled my foxtel 3 weeks ago. Still have IQ3 box sitting there (but can't do anything with it). It was installed in my living room. I would like foxtel in the bedroom now. If I get them to install a wall socket in the bedroom and connect it all up… Can I just move the box into the living room on occasion if I wanted to watch it there every now and then?
Also once its connected at my address will my current IQ3 box become activated too or can I only use the IQ2 box that comes with this deal?
    Thanks

    • Yes, you can move the box between the different Foxtel enabled outlets in your home (as long as the tech doesn't cut the living room cable when they run the new cable to the bedroom - highly unlikely).

  • +2

i asked for a march install ready for sports…3 months i hope from the install date not the signup date. plus the wife will be having a bub then so she has something to put on during the day.

    • Yep I was thinking of doing da same thing!

      • +2

MArch install or the bub? ;)

    • Reading through the comments (can't see it on the website) - am I right this deal finishes end of April? Was it easy enough to post-date your install?

I'd love to set it up starting mid April - expiring mid July. Mainly just to cover most of the footy season as well as Game of thrones.

I had Foxtel at my house perhaps 3 years ago and cancelled. I still have the antenna and points in the house - wonder if I will be considered "new"

      • +2

I asked the same question to Telstra CSR and he advised 3 months when your connection starts and installation has be within Promotion dates which is ending in April.

        • Perfect - 20th April to 20th July sounds almost perfect!

Now hopefully I meet the new client requirement, off to buy a $2 Sim now :)

      • I asked Telstra if I can get it installed at a specific date and they said…
"When an order is placed we do allocate the first available appointment, if you are unavailable to be home on this date we will supply other options."
So the expiry date is 30th April for the deal.
Join up then to get the 3 months for MAY JUNE JULY

  • Does this install a new phone line for satellite users? That's what used to happen right? separate phone line for pay-per-view stuff?

    • No

    • +1

Direct phone connections are no longer installed. Pay-per-view ordering and catchup TV is all internet based, on CAT6 for IQ2, or CAT6/Wi-Fi on IQ3.

      • Foxtel dont run cat6 hardwire though, powerline adaptors are used instead.

        • Or CAT6 patch lead direct to modem

  • My order got cancelled this morning

    • +1

Same. Looks like im buying a $2 telstra sim

      • Don't bother. I have an active Telstra pre paid mobile service, but that didn't stop them cancelling mine.

        • yup same, order got cancelled… no explanation as to why

  • Guys a noob question but is the install via a satellite dish or using your existing ADSL broadband connection?

    • +1

True Foxtel, so either satelite or through the Cable infrastructure.

  • Will this offer - Foxtel from Telstra - slow my Telstra cable internet speed while watching movies?

    • +1

I've used this for years, haven't noticed and slowness when using them both at once.

    • no.

  • Can you get this offer installed at 2 points in your house? Or does it only include 1 point? I know you would only get one iq box included but wondering if you can get a second point on another tv connected?

    • +1

This is between you and the technician - ask them on the day if they will install a second Foxtel outlet for you. The techs are contractors and most are happy to pick up some extra cabling work (for cash or carton :))

      • You can also get it added to your order properly as what is called an 'Add Wallplate'

  • Mine's also been cancelled.

"The plan you've chosen isn't available on your Telstra account" which is weird since I've had a landline with Telstra for almost 10 years now. Reckon this one's been OzBargained and they're just cancelling most of them.

Would be interested in hearing if anyone's had any luck getting it installed or following up with why it's been cancelled??

    • I think their systems had an error

      • An error that issued these emails incorrectly? Or an error that posted the deal up online when it wasn't meant to?

        • the former, i assume

      • human error? haha it seemed to be written from a person with no interest.

  • Also just got the "Unfortunately, the plan you've chosen isn't available on your existing Telstra account.

This means we can't proceed with your order so it's been cancelled. We'll refund any delivery charges and/or purchase amount you've already paid us to the credit card you used to place the order."

I have an active pre paid service with them - which qualifies according to their CIS. So what gives, Telstra!?

    • Go in to a store, it will get organised straight away. Or if you want. Send me a PM and I'll see what I can do for you, bud.

  • Mine got cancelled, rang up, got transferred from Telstra Business to Foxtel, they said yes it got cancelled as the deal needs a valid Telstra account. She actually recommended getting a $2 pre-paid sim if i did not have a telstra account. They are due to ring me back in an hour to take my pre-paid sim details to reactivate the deal.

    • +1

Confirmed, Foxtel rang me back and once I provided the activated pre-paid mobile number they then created a Telstra post paid account which is required to get the deal. Confirmation email issued minutes later confirming deal. Sorted for install end of March, ready for GoT.

  • It Worth your consideration.

  • +1

With getting Foxtel from Telstra, can you actually negotiate with Telstra to get a discounted deal when your contracts up? I know the fact Telstra never reward their loyal customers with their mobile plans unlike Vodafone and Optus. Getting Foxtel directly gives you a better deal by calling them up directly, from what I've read at Whirlpool forums.

  • Just booked mine in by talking with customer service rep, then installer. Installation February with IQ2. Winning!

  • Bah. Not available at my address ! What more beyond a phone line do you need for foxtel ?

    • satellite reception ?

      • You should be able to get sat reception pretty much anywhere UNLESS it is a line of sight issue (by trees and such)

  • Not available anymore. Got an email saying unfortunately we can't do it.

    • It's still advised on their website.

      • On the phone with Telstra. They are providing this service as i didn't provide my Telstra's $2 Sim phone number. So i think it should be fine.

        • Well yeah, that would be why.

        • @Porthos: Booked for 5th Of March as installation date and 3 months will be still valid. The offer will be available to grab till April as per Telstra CSR.

  • Just called up to obtain an interaction ID RE the CIS being 12 month contract.
CSR confirmed there was no commitment beyond 3 months.
Processed online order, last page on sign-up says same as the offer page:

    Order Summary

    •3 months Platinum HD free
    •No set-up costs
    •No contract
    •No cancellation fees

So probably not necessary to obtain an interaction ID, but handy regardless.

  • If I buy the $2 pre paid online will I get the details I need to get the Foxtel offer
or do I have to wait until the card is sent out?

    • You have to have active number on Telstra.

  • +2

Can now confirm that this is available in retail stores as well, and is 100% casual. We have visual merchandising at a store level stating it is such.

    • Does the package include Foxtel GO, if that's the name, where you can watch on your tablet?

      • Yes

  • Just Signed Up, Lets wait and see !

    Order Summary

    •3 months Platinum HD free
    •No set-up costs
    •No contract
    •No cancellation fees

Now Just buy the $ 2 prepaid sim
    https://www.telstra.com.au/mobile-phones/prepaid-mobiles/2-p…

  • Has anyone recieved any other confirmation emails? Beyond the order summary email? How do I know what time exactly they will show up?

    • I've received an email bill activation so far but doesn't really indicate anything about FOXTEL but I'm sure that would be it since I've signed it up under my Telstra prepaid account.

  • Does setup cost includes standard installation? Could just be system configuration etc.

    • its install as well dude.

  • +4

Ordered on 26th, already installed today morning. 3 months foxtel free yayyyy

  • How long does installation take?

Do they have to do much to install the line?

    • They took 3-4 hours for dish installation

      • Was it a good job.?professional finish on install?
Does the wall plate use the same fitting as a normal FTA connection?

My house doesn't come with an antenna or cabling and thinking about this to get the cabling, was plugs and other fitment, then change out the Sat antenna for FTA digi antenna.

    • Installed today, took ~2 hours for the satellite dish and cabling. Wall plate has two F sockets on it, both go to the IQ2.

Also needs an internet connection which they did using a pair of Netcomm (branded Foxtel) AV500 Powerline adapters as the router and TV are ~15 meters apart.

Have to say I was surprised the AV500's worked as well as they did, (~2.5Mbps), since I could never get a reliable connection using a pair of Belkin AV200's even at 5 meters.

  • +1

WOO HOO!!!!!!!!!!! FREE NBA FINALS IN HD, THANKS SO MUCH OP!!!!!

I delayed my install until late March… 3 months takes me to late June, that's NBA playoffs covered. Thank you so much OP, a lovely "me" present :).

Already set the alarm in my phone to tell me to cancel in June ;).

  • Would this be a good/free way to get cable installed in a non-metro area with poor phone/ADSL Internet speed/reliability for later adding/switching to cable Internet while potentially saving on installation fees? The website reports that Foxtel is available at the address entered so there is nothing to loose I guess.

    • +1

Its a satellite dish mate, not a cable… unless you are in an older area that still serves foxtel over cable previously laid on power poles. But I thought they stopped installing customers on that.

Have a look outside on the power poles. Is there a black cable that sits lower than all the rest, about a third of the way down on the pole?

      • That was the old Optus cable, the Telstra stuff is underground.

  • My bed room has poor reception that internal antenna (I have tried over 8 different high gain etc type of antennae) wouldn't pick up any free to air channels unless I ran coax cable from the main living area to my room but that is messy, juat wondering if I have this installed in my room will I have an antenna outlet socket that I can just connected to via normal tv cable or it doesn't work that way? I am not a Telstra customer but have a couple of $30 prepaid Telstra sim from $1 deal from Woolworths last year that I can activate to get the Google credits and use the Telstra account for this. Thanks in advance.

    • doesnt work like that mate.

depending on where you live in australia, free to air can be broadcast on cable… but to get it you'd need to remain a foxtel subscriber, and get the signal through their box.

depends on how bad you want tv there, but you could go on one of their cheap start pack things for like $25pm or whatever it is?

  • I signed up a second time on Wednesday (Rejected first time), and just now recieved an email with my "Account Details". It says:

    Your Account
    Account number: 8******
    Contract term: 12 months
    Foxtel product: Foxtel iQ

Despite the initial confirmation email saying No Contract. Sort yourself out Foxtel

    • Yep, got that as well, but with no account number shown, just blank :(

Another call I need to make today!

    • I Got the Same thing, didn't receive an account number though.

If i wanted to confirm my order, do i call foxtel support or Telstra?

    • Just got off the phone. Called Foxtel - 131999, managed to get the account number, then they put my through to Telstra by Foxtel because I was querying that 12 month bit. Guy confirmed it's all good, 3 months free etc etc :)

      • I got the same so called up and they told me its just a generic email. All good.

    • -2

yeah my PDF says 12 months
and 200 for the set top box and 100 per out let install

      WTF?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • signed up 2 days ago- said they would call me back to see if it could be done on sat or cable…. no one called so i called foxtel up directly by mistake(was supposed to call up telstra). The guys from Foxtel said other people in my complex had it up and running but for some reason mine was deactivated - the guy reactivated it and said there is no reason why telstra cant sign you up. SO i called telstra up and they said we cant then i told them i just spoke to foxtel - they said they would look into it.I asked for a reference number and it sounds bogus…bout to call them back to confirm.

So i wonder whats really going on XD

So to confirm - Foxtel can do satellite but Telstra wont for some reason….

  • How does the installation work? Do they need to drill a hole in the wall or something along those lines? We are renting at the moment.

    • +2

Yes they will need to fit a faceplate for the plug, and the dish on the roof.

Check with your RE agent, most should be fine with it as it's a professional installing it, and the plug will be handy for future tenants (ie I can't see any negatives to it)

    • This varies from house to house. At the very least it will need the wall plate (and in dish location a dish) as spackbace said. But then depending on the house some properties may require conduit to run. Always hopefully they dont need to, but just keep in mind it is a possibility depnding on the building.

  • guys, any idea how long it would take to get the service up & running, from the moment I sign up instore??

    • Depends when you book in for your installation. Provided it can be done on the day first booked then it will be working that day before the tech leaves.

  • just got off the phone to them, everything was going along smoothly until the credit check,
she came back saying I need to of had at least 6 months worth of billing on one of their services to pass or something.
thought this was a bit strange, will go into store next week to try my luck.

  • I had an Indian girl call me up trying to spruik this - talking a million miles an hour and almost sounded offended when I refused haha

  • -3

yeah my PDF says 12 months
and 200 for the set top box and 100 per out let install

    WTF?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • -12

GUYS this is a fking scam,, the 3 months free is a saving of $677 ow what ever, but you have to pay out the other 9 months.

    stay the fk away!

For example, minimum cost over 12 months with $2 Telstra Pre-Paid SIM Starter Kit, $100 standard installation and $75 iQ2 Box with: Entertainment is $477; Entertainment +
Movies is $717; Entertainment + Drama is $717; Entertainment + Sport is $777; Entertainment + Sport HD is $897; Entertainment + Sport + Drama is $1,017; Platinum
is $1,617; Platinum HD is $1,785.

Cheers OP - signed up a few days ago and have my install booked for next Friday.

Looks like you can use Foxtel Go straight away (not sure if it affects the three month activation date?)…registered for My Account on the Foxtel website, and am able to use it on my HTPC and tablet…nice :)

    • hmm would be good to find that out, as my install date is the 24th of Feb…

    • My install date is still a while away (22/4), but I got my Foxtel account no. today and registered for a Foxtel ID on the Foxtel website. I can now login to the Foxtel Go app on my smartphone but almost all of the content is locked.

When I login to Foxtel's website with my Foxtel Id to see "My Package", it shows me a message to say that since I am a Telstra customer they don't have access to account and hence I can't watch anything.

Did you had to do anything else apart from registering with your Foxtel Id?

      • No - the entire catalogue was available straight away.

Foxtel Go is only available 30 days prior to install…did you mean to say your install is 22/6?

        • Sorry… my bad. The install date is 22/5.

  • hmmmmmmm
    signed up last week
haven't received a confirmation or a call yet.. and install was meant to be tues/wed

    • horrible. They said they can't find my order even though I got an email from them with an order ID

  • How far of a cable run is allowed for a standard install. I don't wish to have the dish visible from open areas of our small unit.

    • +1

50 metres. Cable run, or if it requires conduit then 3 lengths of conduit

  • Ok, to take the offer, the installation date must be before April or the application date before April ? Meaning if I apply end of March, install in August, I will still eligible for the offer ?

    • AFL Finals? They have a max delay on imstall I believe.

  • When you cancel do they remove the dish as well?

    • Possibly not as when our tenants departed, their foxtel dish was left behind on the roof.

    • No, when you cancel all that happens is you return the set top box. Evertything on the house stays

  • -1

Is there any (good quality) way to feed Foxtel into an HTPC these days?

Back in the day, I used to plug my Foxtel dish and smartcard into a Twinhan card in my HTPC and all was good. But the b'stards took that capability away when they introduced NDS2 encryption maybe 10 years ago. So I took my subscription away.

Wondering if the pendulum has yet swung back in my favour.

    • Couldn't you just use a hdmi capture card? You could then use other software to screencast or stream via dlna. I might do this so I can stream it down to my man cave and into the kitchen. Changing channels no biggy as just want sport.

  • Thanks OP! Applied for late March install for the NBA

    • Spoke to soon…got a cancellation email - credit

      • Chatted with a rep, was asked to sign-up again and gave him the order number. See what happens.

  • +1

Saw a flyer in JB Hi fi for this today. It saids promo ends june 30

    • Thanks.

  • Got mine connected this morning without being an existing Telstra customer. Only needed the satellite decoder box plugged in as I was previous Foxtel customer. When I disconnected last time all I had to do was post back the Foxtel decoder box (at their expense). Cabling and dish stayed. I used it to run my VAST FTA satellite decoder box when it wasn't in my caravan :-)

    • Hmm think you got lucky. As the telstra chat I just had said the offer should've said "For telstra cusomters of 6 months or more" lol

  • When I sign up, there is an option to select "I am a new Telstra customer" if I select this, it says that a new mobile number will be set up for me. Has anyone tried this yet? Does this just mean that they will automatically issue a $2 sim card?

    • I tried that and it got rejected. So bought a $2 sim, registered it and got accepted.

    • When I filled in the online form I don't remember the bit about a new mobile number - I put that down to an age thing :-)

I did go back and start the process again and the actual sentence that comes up is:
"If you don't have a mobile number or need a new one, we'll set it up".
Well I do have a mobile number (just not through Telstra) and I don't need one (from Telstra).

As I said above, I had a visit from a Foxtel installer this morning and Foxtel is now up and running in my house.
I doubt if they will just send out $2 sim cards and expert you to pay for one if you haven't specifically ordered one.

  • Just ordered it for my own house. Was wondering though, my parents have Foxtel in the Kitchen but was wondering if they could sign up under a new name for the sole purpose of having a new connection being installed in the living room and cancelling after 3 months. That way my parents can just move the set top box…

  • my friend has been paying for 6 months $10 a month just for the box, so they dont have to get a reconnection fee for Foxtel.
Now Telstra have advised this is for new customers with telstra foxtel or foxtel direct must be 3 months without service.
As in a way they havent had the service for 6 months, could they work around this?

    Quote this selection

    • I would also like to know this

  • +2

once u get an email saying that you've selected the platinum plan, u can call up Telstra to get ur Foxtel account number and use Foxtel Go straight away even if u don't have Foxtel installed yet (mine is late March and i'm already using Foxtel Go). ur free subscription won't begin until ur installation date. already confirmed with Telstra Chat

    • I guess thats only when u are moving ,not when u are waiting for a new installation

      • nope im on a new installation

        • That's good , I have my installation date on 7th mar , I gotvthe confirmation email of my order mentioning abt Foxtel go as well, but When I rang Telstra they mentioned it is only when u are moving and u can't get it activated until ur installation date but they provided me my Foxtel account number , I went to Foxtel website and tried to register but in vain … Any ideas what to do after I have my Foxtel account number ?

        • @BenSingh: download the foxtel go app on ur pc and then register thru the app

        • -1

It won't work as you need to have Smart Card Number for registration which comes with Foxtel device. So Foxtel Go will not work unless its installed and registered.

    • Spent over an hour on the phone to Telstra having to reapply as my online application from a week ago had mysteriously disappeared even though I had received the confirmation email. I spoke to 2 different people trying to create a Foxtel id and they both said I can't access Foxtel go until my installation date which is in 2 weeks time.

      • This was at the bottom of an email I received from foxtel yesterday:

^Access to Foxtel Go available for a maximum of 30 days from the date you subscribed to Foxtel, changed your service address or the first day after the end of your cooling off period (if applicable). If your install date is more than 30 days after this date, your Foxtel Go access will be disabled and will be reactivated when your service is installed

      • My application was also unable to be found despite giving the reference number then I had to reapply today, Come on Telstra get your act together.

  • Anyone have any idea as to best deal once you've used up your 3 free months?

Eg. Sport + HD + IQ2 for how much a month ongoing?

I'm thinking could be a cheap way to get HD AFL for the season. Start it in March, start paying $60/month for July/Aug/Sep, and that turns out to be $30/month for HD Footy, then cancel it from there.

Cheaper than the LiveAFL + Getflix option I did last year!

  • I'm a Foxtel customer and I've got the iQ2 box + Platinum package and another standard foxtel box for another room,

I managed to renegotiate my contract today for $104.95 per month locked in for the next twelve months.

Previous bill was $149.95 so I'm happy

Don't be afraid to call foxtel and tell them you're churning providers because they can offer you a better deal, catch being you have to ask..

  • +1

    Finally got the offer.

I just did an online chat, got them to call me back. Got transferred to the Foxtel team and they re-signed me up over the phone. Took 30 minutes, the reason it got cancelled initially was because I had no Telstra profile set up and system automatically sent out a cancelled order email.

I don't think you need to have a Telstra service, although I bought a $2 sim and activated it. They were more then happy to sign me up and encouraged me to tell my friends and family. As their 'sales' haven't really increased at all. The guy I spoke to said he is getting 1-2 more new installs per day at most. And he re-assured me (without me asking) that it is no lock in contract, even with the generic email Telstra will send saying 12 month contract and that if I'm not happy after 3 months to call to disconnect or change the plan. I also did not give any payment details whats so ever.

  • Well installation date is the 29th of Feb, but already I can use the App to view it :)

  • Hi guys I signed up 4 days ago I got an email from Telstra confirming my order but then never heard back from them.

Not sure what I'm supposed to do

    • Seems Telstra have lost a number of orders in there system, I also got the first email and then I called to check on it and they could not find it despite giving the order number. Few comments here saying the same. Will just need to reapply.

      • Thanks aussie28, I will reapply

      • It's because you don't have a Telstra Profile setup and when applying online, it isn't creating it. Best to call them, as they are more then happy to create it for you over the phone and give you this offer.

      • In addition to this, i have heard of quite a few people not receiving an install date or anything. It was set up and in the system, just the person was not aware of this at all and did not make the booking, so then had the reschedule for a date they are actually available on and know there is an install booked for. As perviously said, best bet is to just give telstra a call.

  • +1

Mine was installed this morning, took about an hour and the tech was awesome.

Watching hd sport as i write this post.

    My experience has been:

Ordered on the date this deal was posted.

Got the same emails as everyone else, saying 12 months etc, clearly it's a generic email so I wasn't worried about that.

Haven't given any billing details. I am a Telstra pre paid customer though for a couple years now.

Booked 3 install options for this week at the time of ordering.

Got a follow up call from foxtel yesterday regarding the install date to confirm it was still on for today.

Tech called me to say he could come earlier and was done in about an hour as there were some cabling issues in our unit. Not foxtels issue though.

We are in a new building so I guess that made the whole thing smoother.

  • So my install is tomorrow and I thought I'd create my account to check the Foxtel GO app. I thought I'd catch up on the last season of TWD and stream it to me TV. Well that was a bad idea, looks like the GO app blocks streaming. So I go back to just watching on the phone and bam the first thing I'm presented with instead of TWD is a 30 second ad. After the ad finishes and I get to finally start watching TWD I realise what a coimplete waste of time it is anyway as the stream is low res compressed junk. Are you kidding me! I'm on a $134 per month plan but A) I can't stream the GO app to a TV, B) The first thin I get to watch on my nice new subscription is a advertisement and C) the quality of the stream is comparable to a 240p Youtube stream.

Wow if the real service is like this there's ZERO chance of them keeping me as a customer. They truly have nothing on Netflix/STAN which have a small monthly cost, zero ads and stream in HD/4k.

    • I use Foxtel go on my iPad iPhone and50" to via htpc and it's not full hd but it isn't that bad either. I'd say it's around in between 480p - 720p range l…I think your connection has something to do with it also

      • Yeah there's no way this was 720p, if it was 480p the compression made it feel like 240. Definitely not my connection though (100Mb)

  • I had mine installed today. Given we had foxtel previously it was a very quick install (just connected up the box).

Given you have to give one months notice to disconnect (afaik) and they bill a month in advance has anyone called or figured out when you need to cancel to avoid being charged the full fee? Also is the commencement date when the account goes live or when the install takes place?

  • +3

Answering my own question I've just got off chat with Telstra and they said: It would be best to call us a week before the offer ends for you to make sure that the offer will be changed and for you not to be charge for it.

    • Thanks, was thinking that myself but was going to call them after the second month.

  • Can anyone who has it connected already confirm what communication they received? I just want to make sure I'm right in the system and in progress - I ordered last night over the phone.

    Ive got:
    * Email Bill Activiation (which includes my account number)
    * Notification of my plan details on a page (critical info summary - states a whole lot of irrelevant info about 12month contract, etc)
    * 2 Notification of contact with Telstra, both with the same reference number but 1 of them is referencing a Foxtel Platinum HD order, with a Order Number included.

Booking date was confirmed over the phone, but no record of it in email?

    • +1

They just rang me up on the phone because no one was home so we quickly made it home, installed and done. Now will enjoy watching EPL for 3 months :).

    • Not sure about prior to the night before, but the night before your install someone will call you to confirm your booking the next day. I believe you will also get a text message with booking details with a Y/N response required (someone confirm this part?). The technician may also try to contact you the night before install to confirm job as well.

      • Got a call the day before confirming requirements, ie. someone home, single/double story, satellite, TV with HDMI, etc.

Technician called the day of the install, (today), ~30 minutes before he was due to arrive.

        No SMS received.

    • This is all correct.

I just got mine connected today morning , Great service Next 3 months Platinum HD for Free

  • They used to include 2 free box office movies with platinum subscription but not anymore.

  • +1

Installed, works beautifully. Question though when we cancel can we keep the powerline adapter? Also my parents have foxtel I'm thinking of giving them the box or does foxtel return it?

    • Foxtel will send you a reply paid for the box to be returned and a list of the equipment to be returned with it. Once you cancel your account the box wont be usable until linked to another account anyway. You will just receive a smartcard is not authorised error message.

  • If I already have Foxtel from Foxtel, can I get a second IQ2 box using this deal??

    • Dont believe so, i believe you can only have one account you your residence

  • +2

While on platinum you can receive presto for free as well.

If your installer hasn't given you a complimentary Power line Kit

Call Foxtel on 131 999 and say "Accessories"
Ask them to despatch you a complimentary kit absolutely free

    http://www.netcommwireless.com/product/powerline/np511

    • When i go to accessories and powerline it says it's $50??

  • Thanks again OP - installed yesterday morning!

Now hopefully I get the $200 welcome credit I was promised over the phone numerous times at sign up over the phone (yes, confirmed it with her like 4 times, and she said th credit can be used to pay for foxtel once the 3months expires.

E.g. 3months free hd platinum, then 3.3333months free hd sports.

Aka. Free footy all season long!

    • How did you get an extra $200?

      • +1

It was offered to me while signing up. Never asked for it at all as didn't think of it or know of it.

That said, I'm not a telstra customer in any way, shape or form before this and still only have foxtel with them.

So the lady said after my first months 'billing' I will get it applied to my account, where it will sit there until I use it on bills after the three months or receive it's a a visa prepaid card.

Didn't want to say about it til it was installed - due to risk of not being a telstra customer and reports of orders being cancelled.

        • Not sure how you swindled the $200 credit but good effort.

I tried asking about it but they insisted it was for if you were signing up a post paid service only.

        • @sam0433450:

The lady I spoke to offered it without prompting - I had to run through a credit check for her to set up a post-paid account to enable the foxtel?

Either way, it is due to show up after a month of billing - I'll report back in a month.

          fingers crossed

        • +1

@tizey: I asked if Foxtel is a post paid service and he said no mobile only. Haha double check she hasn't signed you up for a mobile plan or something.

        • Yer I would seriously get somethign in writting - after 3 months i think you go on a 12 month contract even if the lady gives u $200 credit - dont u have to still pay for the remainder of the 12 months? just be caustious if u havent already :) also if u have credit and want to cancel, can u use that credit to cancel with or not?

        • @Calmerancer:

Took nearly 3 months, but now Ive got $200 credit applied to my account. Also tonight just received letter saying 3months free promo finishes in 2 weeks.

Now, to slam them tomorrow for a better deal on ent + sports + I'd and drama if I can swindle it. Aim is for $50/month, to end up with 7 months free foxtel in total.

    • Let's say that you have used up the first 3 months, then you are using the $200 credit, will you breaching any contract if you cancel it before the end of 6 month ? Any penalty or you are free to cancel at any time and can use the credit for your Telstra phone bill ?

      • The operator confirmed numerous times in the same phone call that the $200 credit would be applied, and also confirmed that I am under no contract to continue the foxtel.

Similarly, I am 100% sure that I am not signed up to any telstra phone plan. It was all done in one phone call - the only thing spoken about was the 3months free foxtel offer, no contract at all, no install costs and $200 welcome credit that can be used for future foxtel costs. End of the day - there is a recorded phone call encompassing all of that - so I'm confident I'm covered.

Last foray into Foxtel - I had my contract rescinded and all charges reversed and refunded… but thats another story (dont promise me IQ & HD if you cant deliver it - a standard SD box is of no value to me!)

        • Alright, to get the $200 credit, we have to ring Foxtel and apply for this package rather than apply online and then ring Foxtel ? I chat with Telstra and advised to ring Foxtel to ask for the credit.

        • @yht:

I only spoke to Telstra - not Foxtel.

        • @tizey: I meant Foxtel team under Telstra 132200. Is it the number that you rang ?

        • @yht:

Nope - I rang the sales number in the deal webpage. 1800 676 088

        • +1

@tizey: I just rang the number and advised that the $200 credit has expire in 31/1 as the new offer of this 3 months comes.

        • @yht:

A $200 visa debit card was promised to me when signing up to this deal. Just phoned Tesltra/Foxtel to see where the card was and was told that I wouldn't be getting the card as the was part of a different promotion that ended 25 Jan 2016. I ordered my Foxtel on 28 Jan 2016.

    • A $200 visa debit card was promised to me when signing up to this deal. The Telstra/Foxtel rep told me the card would be send out 21 days after the install. My install was 12 Feb 2016.

Just phoned Tesltra/Foxtel to see where the card was….

Was told that I wouldn't be getting the card as the was part of a different promotion that ended 25 Jan 2016. I ordered my Foxtel on 28 Jan 2016. I argued with them but didn't get anywhere, as there was no note on the file re the card.

Not sure if I should take this any further.

It says at the start of the call that calls are recorded…

      • After many calls and going around and around in circles, I ended up with a complaints case manager, she initially offered a $100 credit. I then requested that the web chat history and the recorded phone call when I ordered Foxtel (started as a web chat, then telstra/foxtel sales phoned me to complete the order). The case manager was able to obtain the web chat history which confirmed that indeed I was told I would get a $200 visa debit card 21 days after install, but was unable to obtain the phone call and without it, the case manager said she could not confirm that the offer was not withdrawn in the phone call (for any reason).
She offered me $200 credit to my account, which I was happy with, even though it wasn't what I was promised.

        • Good to know. I've just received my first bill today ($0) but with no credit applied… guess I'll be calling Telstra on my way home from work tonight!

  • registered now..
    waiting for $200

  • +1

Thanks OP, just signed up. YAY free sport

  • When does the contract start? At the date of installation?

  • Rang up telstra and he wouldn't sign me up without a POST PAID service with the cheapest one being 35/month without contract.

Should I just sign up to prepaid then sign up online?

    • +1

Just buy $2 sim and sign up online.

    • +1

i went in store and signed up the other day….thought i was going to have to buy a $2 sim but the guy at the telstra shop used an old mobile broadband account i used to have to connect me….they were very helpful!

  • If I already have foxtel and have recently downgraded to only keep the box and pay $10, am I still eligible for this deal?

    • What do you get for $10/month?

      • Just the FTA channels

        • You're paying for something that is already free?? And you actually get more channels via FTA.

  • +1

i have applied online, with the intention to setup a $2 sim tomorrow. Does anyone think there will be any problem? I know I doing it arse about but just wanted to get the ball rolling

    • Usually take 2 or so days for Telstra to do anything with the application so you should be alright. I presume Telstra receive the application then match it with your Telstra account after it sits in a queue for 1-2 days so as long as you set up the $2 SIM account the next day you should be right

  • Thanks - ordered for an April installation

  • Hmm just received an email saying the order has been cancelled saying it isn't available on my existing Telstra account ($2 SIM). sigh

    • When did you apply ?

      • Last Monday. Installation was for this Friday.

I just rang and spent half talking to someone and they said the order is still active so I don't know what's going on. This is the only Telstra service I have so can't be a cancellation for anything else…

Wait to see what happens on Friday I guess.

  • When you signed up online did you receive any confirmation email?

    I didn't receive anything..

  • +1

I signed up last week, and never received a confirmation email, or any other correspondence. I booked it for installation today but since I never heard a thing just assumed it hadn't been processed yet, but sure enough the bloke turned up to install it just as I was about to head out for the day.

Still have no details of my account or any emails or phone calls, but do have working Foxtel!

  • +1

I received a confirmation email but no confirmation of appointment. Rang after a few days and they booked one over the phone (still didn't receive a confirmation email). Then got that cancellation email today but after ringing apparently everything is still booked in so buggered if I know if it's going ahead

  • Kool thanks ill give them a call to confirm :)

  • Not recieving a confirmation of appointement seems to be VERY common issue with this deal. If you havent had confirmation on when you are booked for it would be worthwhile calling telstra to check.

  • Did anyone still get the $200 credit?

  • My order was cancelled a couple of weeks ago as I didn't have any Telstra services. I was planning on buying a $2 sim and ordering again before the AFL season begins, but I hadn't got around to it yet.

Yesterday, I received an email from Telstra apologising for cancelling the order. They said they will send me a $2 sim at no cost to me so the foxtel order can go ahead.

  • So what does the free installation include?

What needs to be already there for the installation to be 'free'?

Building a granny flat at the moment and it will have the phone lines etc all ready to go, do we need a dish or anything? or is that included in the install?

    • Most installs are inclured.if there is more than 3 lengths of conduit required, or any internal ducting then it becomes customised. Much more often than not installs are covered though. Pm me if you want to ask anything about it further though.

  • Under my terms and conditions it states $100 install fee and minimum term 12 months.
I have had foxtel before (2 years ago), and everything is still in place except for the set top box.
Was looking forward to this offer and keeping it for the AFL season, but going to pass now.

    • thought it was free installation

      • Supposedly not where I live. Something about installing another line.
However had it a couple of years ago, and still have the dish etc.

        • Maybe thats why this is for new customers only

        • Dont think so, I called them to confirm and they stated a line had to be installed and that is why the extra cost due to my location.

        • @flex350:

Hmm weird it states no set up costs although in the terms has all these fees for setup ect.

Can anyone comfirm if this charge to out in a new line seems abit weird when this is targeted at people that havnt had telstra foxtel yet

        • @TheStahh:

If you go back to early comments, I think everyone had that in their terms, but it was confirmed there was no install fee, no cancellation etc :)

        • I called telstra and I get the fees. Maybe it was the person I spoke too.

  • So i called Telstra they said you needed to have a Telstra account which is stated above.

so i purchased a 2$ sim and re registered and got a confirmation email.

  • +1

Had it installed yesterday, watched a movie last night on Stan ;) lol

Kinda get used to Video on Demand. Nice to know that Foxtel has it, but it didn't have the movie I wanted!

  • +7

Received an email from an OzBargainer.

I've had it confirmed by Telstra and Foxtel independently that there is a huge gotcha waiting for people at the end of their 3 months.

That gotcha, if you don't cancel within the three months you are on a 12 month platinum plan contract starting from at 3 month+1 day.

That's not stated anywhere clearly, but is hinted at in the information sheet on the second last page of the sign up (12 month minimum term).

    • How many ozbargainers would not cancel before the 3 months though?

    • But… With no locks ins… :(

    • +1

Strange how not many have responded to this, Scotty. I rang Telstra and they confirmed it continues month to month after the three months for everyone on this deal. Cancel anytime. I suggest people check their welcome email. Mine states: "You've selected the Platinum HD package for $134 per month on a month-to-month subscription."

      • I got told today that there is a 9 month contract following the 3 month trial "because Foxtel does 12 month contracts". Strange.

  • I live in an apartment and someone else has Foxtel, but couldnt get IQ apparently. Does anybody know a way around this?

    • OFTEN (not always) with these big apartment buildings they need to have been prewired for foxtel. If there is only a point for FTA aerial then the foxtel being split off that cable then you probably wont be able to. For iQ you would need a second direct cable ran down.
Ability to do this varies between buildings and where the apartment is/accessability to run new cable. Best bet is to try, get a tech out. If you can awesome, if you cannot then you are in the same position as you are now.

    • TL:DR - if Foxtel have it on their system that your address cant get IQ, accept it and move on. Its not worth the fight that you'll lose. If you really want IQ, it will be easier to move to an address that has it in Foxtels system.

      Long version
I tried 2 years ago to get HD IQ connected to the apartment I was renting. Foxtel said no, we can only give you SD and No-IQ as your building is not wired for it. I said thats not acceptable and that I wouldnt proceed with Foxtel at all on that basis. End of conversation.

They called back 2 days later and said that they would be able to work around it - but I would only have the ability to watch or record 1 show (not multiple like most IQ). I said yes - sign me up provided that HD IQ is connected!

So they sent me the box & install kit - was only a SD, Non-IQ box, which when I hooked it up - it didnt work. They werent able to issue me a IQ box as the system had it that my address wasnt capable. To resolve the connection issue of the SD box - they sent a technician out.

He assessed the lines, resolved the issue and I got him to inspect and test if I could get HD IQ. He ran the tests on existing cabling - and said yes, without any shadow of a doubt it would work and that I should inform Foxtel of this to get them to resolve it.

Over the next few months (literally), hours of phone calls (on drive home every day) and banging my head against the wall - they could not, and would not accept the technicians word over their system. They refused to even send me a IQ box to try it. Every single person I spoke to gave a different opinion from the last - no-one was consistent and made promises that they could fix the problem and get me HD IQ. In the end - I knew they couldnt as the 10 people I'd spoken to beforehand had all failed - what made this guy any different?

In the end (about 3-4months in total) - I gave up. I sent the SD box back and I got every single dollar of charges refunded as they could not deliver what I had been promised.

      • Wow tizey, that's frustrating! Looks like you are in Melbourne. I'm in Brisbane and w years on, wonder how different it would be….
It is silly for Foxtel not to find a solution. No doubt the apartment is not compatible now. But most Body Corporate has Sinking Fund and who knows, rewiring might be one of the things to do, including fibre optic.
        I will ponder over this.
        Enjoy your day.

        • Even with the wiring tested by the Foxtel technician as compatible for HD IQ, they were telling me the entire building had to be re-wired, which is lunacy as the cabling already was sufficient.

I attempted to speak to the guys who manage the process of updating buildings compatibility within their system, or have someone at Foxtel do it for me based on the technicians words. I tried to get the building re-assessed formally to upgrade it - no luck even getting through to the people to speak to about this.

I wouldnt bank on Body Corp approving a re-wiring.. it will cost thousands most likely to do and most landlords couldnt care less.

I wish you luck in your endeavours to have it connected, but trust me - whatever you want to watch on Foxtel, you're better off paying for some other streaming service to obtain it (I wanted it for AFL - I paid for the international AFL streaming service in place of Foxtel for the last 2 years), or move. Its simply not worth the effort to try and get Foxtel to change their mind!

        • @tizey:

Looks like you've done what I planned to do. That's disappointing to say the least.
Weekend is near, hope you have a good one :-)

        • @tizey: Sounds like pirating or online streams are much better

        • @Turd:

I wish I could say they are. But the HD Fox Footy is much better than any online stream - legit or not - I could find that was consistently available.

Keep in mind, accessibility is the biggest thing. Nothing worse than sitting down for a game, and spending the first quarter trying to get a working stream of the game. So frustrating!

  • Hey Mods/OP,

When I search for "Foxtel" in the search box, this deal doesn't appear in the long running deals or active deals section. This was why I thought the deal was new and created a duplicate. I'm not sure if this deal needs to be flagged as Foxtel or not?

  • Where are you guys buying the $2 sims???

  • I have had Foxtel go for a month on this deal because my install date is 21/03. Does the 3 months start from Installation date?

    • It is supposed to but I would ring them and double check.

  • I've had Foxtel installed through this deal. Got the initial emails from Telstra confirming the 3 month free deal. It's working fine. But upon ringing Telstra recently, they say there is no record of a Foxtel service on my account. Am I supposed to ring Foxtel directly?

  • Thanks OP. Rang them on on Wednesday via the 1800 number, which went to an overseas call centre. Signed up and was told of installation date on coming Monday. Then someone in Australia rang yesterday to confirm the installation and other technical details. Hooray, first timer Foxtel!

    • Happy to report that I have not just have Foxtel, but also IQ2! Had it for 5 days now and getting to know all the channels. Yay!

  • Is it possible to do installation on Saturdays or Sunday?

    • Yeah, saturdays (metro) 7-10, 10-2, 2-5 and sundays 7-10, 10-2

  • Do you guys know if the installer would supply me with a splitter as I have cable internet out of the same socket.

  • also does anyone know when the deal finishes? Thanks!

    • 30th April according to the expiry date at the top of the thread (this date is also mentioned in a post by @tekkrohnz on page 1).

      • +1

Since then i have also heard june 30, so TBH i am not positive which one. I believe the june 30 source is more reliable, however as im not certain i would go by the earlier april date JUST TO BE SURE.

  • +1

im currently have 2 prepaid mobile numbers with telstra and many previously. applied and in 2 hours got email cancellation. chat with them and they advised this:

"Upon confirming to our Specialised team , please be advised that you need to visit the nearest telstra shop and present 3 form of ID's, proof of address and proof of employment 3 recent pay slips. And you can go process the order in the shop"

    • Call them. They are Happy to give u the offer on the phone

      • thanks. tried, the lady seems to be able to get me but then suddenly she said
"wait i saw note in my system about you have to go to the telstra shop bla bla bla.. sorry i cant"

i dont mind go to the store next week. but the lady was very vague about the expiration. she said "maybe end of march, not sure etc etc"

        • Guy I had was wonderful and told me to tell my friends and family as they weren't getting that many calls for this offer

  • +3

For those of you who signed up when this was first posted in January, be aware of the following detail in the Foxtel service agreement:

When you can cancel this Agreement
06.01 You may cancel this Agreement:
    a) at any time by giving us 35 days
notice (and we may ask for written
    confirmation);

Time to cancel now if you don't want to pay for month #4.

    • woah - 35 days notice?!

  • I went through the order process and then late in the peace, it told me that it's a 12 month contract with a $300+ cancellation order.

Can someone steer me in the right direction / assure me I can cancel in time and incur no fees…?

    • Gee.. if you click the link you'll see free cancellation… Any word on expiration date?

      • Yeah, fair enough.

I just wasn't sure if I'd clicked the wrong button somewhere and was about to sign up for some other package..

  • I got an email quoting $134/month !! Is this some kind of a trap?
    Anyone else got this email?

You've selected the Platinum HD package for $134 per month on a month-to-month subscription. We hope that you enjoy the premium entertainment experience with Foxtel from Telstra.

    Edit:
Read it half way. it also says

Your package comes with three months’ free Platinum HD subscription. Your service also includes an iQ2 or MyStar2 recordable device with free standard installation and no equipment fee. For non-standard installation, additional fees may apply. The Installer will discuss this with you prior to attendance.

  • Ok, I got Foxtel now. I never use Foxtel before. I was wondering if there is any reason why I need to pay for movie under Tv guide ? Isn't it included in the package ?

    • The regular ones are included (premier, master piece, thriller, comedy, etc.). Any Box Office channel is one where you will need to pay for the movie.

  • Just some advice for those wishing to keep the Foxtel but on a different package. I am about 3 weeks out from the end of my 3 months free, so I thought I'd be organised and change my package for next month so that I don't have to pay for the channels i don't watch. For, Foxtel via Telstra customers all changes on the account are immediate. So, I went onto the Entertainment + Sports HD package today for $60 per month. This means that I am now billed $60 per month from today and the remaining 3 weeks I had for free were gone.

Talked to a few more people at Telstra to try to get this reversed or get some sort of account credit but no luck.

    • Ouch! How did you make the change, did you call them or is that possible somewhere online?

      • Just call Telstra on 13 22 00, you will eventually be routed to "Foxtel Direct" where any changes you make to your package happens immediately.

  • Any1 know the best way of cancelling and if there is a time frame you gave to give them before end of the 3 months ?

    Thanks

    • one of the post here said 35 days! anyone can confirm and have actually cancelled their trial?

      • Wow thats how they trap you i guess

        • Nah ozb members are smarter we will be setting up reminder on calendars

    • I asked the rep and he said since I am not on contract, they can process it straight away. They will then send you a box to send back your IQ device and its all done.

  • Just got an email, flybuys offering 5,000 flybuys points if you sign up for the offer. Man, Telstra/Foxtel is desperate.

  • now available with 5000 flybuys points and free $2 sim until 30th april :)

  • I just cancelled my service - mine started early feb. So far no problems. i dont think you need 35 days notice~ just like they say you get an email saying your on a 12month contract yet over the phone they say disregard it. Its the same with cancelling i think.

    • Is that mean you can only use it for 3 months minus 35 days before being disconnected ? Or they will disconnect it by end of full 3 months ?

  • Hi Guys, as you know i signed up for this free trial.

i was charged yesterday full price on my second month while still on the free trial!! i was so pissed, had a fight with Telstra and they finally removed the charge.

be very very careful, keep an eye on your bill. i know for sure i won't be renewing

    • +2

hmm i didnt put any bank acc or credit card when applying (havent get it installed yet) so how they charged you?

      • On your Telstra bill, unless you were pre-paid :)

        • Ah yeah im with prepaid. Also jist received first foxtel bill, and it says thank you no payment is required

  • Has anyone tried to sign up with this and delay the install until June to try and get the Olympics as part of the 3 month trial?

    • I did. Had booked for late June-2016 and got an email back.

      • +1

        Nice thanks.

    • I thought the Olympics were exclusive to Seven this year (i.e. no Foxtel co-share arrangement)?

  • Is it possible to negotiate a better package price once the 3 months is up?

  • +6

So…just called Telstra to cancel my three months free trial.

They said that from tomorrow, for those on the three month deal and are looking to cancel, they will be offering a further two months free of the base (Entertainment) package plus either Sports, Drama, or Movies ;)

    • Probably the best news this week! Thanks in time for Olympic!

    • Thanks for the info,

So do you know if we still need to give the 35 days notice to cancel or just call up before the end of the 3 months?

      thanks

      • +1

just call up before the end of the 3 months

Am certain it is this…I cancelled today (15 days before my three months is up), and have already received a cancellation email from Foxtel, and the Telstra guy on the phone advised to expect to get the return authorisation form in the mail shortly so I can post back the box and remote etc.

        • When they will terminate your connection ? Can you still watch it now ? Or it will be when you remove the decoder ? Or when they receive the decoder ?

        • +1

          @yht:

Will test when I get home from work in a few hours and let you know.

        • Thanks why didnt u wait till tommorow and get another 2 months ?

        • +1

          @TheStahh:

Hardly used it in the three months we had it, so am not bothered to keep it any longer and have to call back again to cancel.

        • @yht:

Can confirm my Foxtel service is now cancelled…get following message when I turn it on:

"This smart card is not authorised"

    • I just rang them then saying "i am thinking of cancelling, are there any deals on offer?"

The guy quoted me the standard $50 for entertainment and sport, didn't make any kind of deal.

Is there anything in writing confirming the offer you got?

      • Is there anything in writing confirming the offer you got?

No, he just said over the phone that there would be two deals on offer…the extra two months free as above, or Platinum for $109.

        • Similar offers made here. $109 platinum HD, $35 for Entertainment, Doco's including Sport free for 3 months, then $60 after 3 months was up for all 3 packages. So basically just sport free for 3 months. This was also over the phone as well. Mine was cancelled on the 26th of April with no extra free months option thrown in. Tried to keep Platinum HD for $75 a month but no chance haha. Should have tried $80 lol. Also billing appears to have been corrected, as they tried to charge me pro rata, even though I have no contract that I would be exiting early from. Be vigilant :)

    • +1

Can confirm this deal is available, just depends on who you get on the phone.

Spoke to someone last week as my 3 months trial ends tomorrow (3/5/16).
Told her I don't watch it often, I only use it for sports and thinking about cancelling.
Asked if any other offers they said, entertainment + sports for $50/month on 12 month contract.
Asked of any promotion and she said no, just the standard package.(No mention of free 2 months)
Said I would have to think about it. (Confirmed could callback day before end of 3 months and won't get charged)

Called back tonight and said the same thing to the guy about only watching sports.
He said can downgrade to entertainment and sports for $50/month or he can do entertainment + sports for free as trial for next 2 months (didn't even have to ask about promotion).

Doesn't include HD sports channels though, if you want HD sports, you have to pay extra $10/month.

Changed the package on the spot. Have to call backup though as they changed package but didn't add the HD channels, and sport is so bad without HD once you've experienced it.

      TL;DR

  • Thanks OP. Signed up for 3 months ONLY :)

    • Take your time :P

  • Cancelled mine, was asked whats the reason, just bloody no time to watch! lol!

  • Can anyone confirm if they were charged fees for installation (wall point etc.)? Deal says no set-up costs, but the critical information contradicts which is slightly concerning.

    • Ignore the critical summary as it is standard crap they have. Confirmed on the phone.

      • Thanks!

    • No install fees here (and I'm rural). Have two weeks left before I have to fork out any money. Certainly won't be keeping all channels in Platinum HD beyond that.

      • Thanks for the rural clarification! Not sure if anyone would keep PlatHD @ $135/month..

  • I know this finishes soon but can I get the IQ/IQ2/IQ3 with this for a small fee?

    • Already comes with IQ2 :)

      • Sorry I just tried to edit.

Did a Yong get the IQ3 for $200?

        • No idea, you can't keep the box anyway, why pay more?

  • just got installed yesterday, and the guy threw in 2 netcomm 500mbs powerline adapters which was sweet. Anyone know if you can keep these after cancelling, I don't want the box but the adapters are nice.

  • If you want two power line adaptors for accessing online demand content, call their foxtel cancellation team and request they be sent out for free.

They said I should have received them on installation.

    • What is online demand content?? Is it different to the standard channels?

      • It's called foxtel go. Much of their TV shows and movies accessible on the standard channels are saved online to watch later when you like. You can watch live TV online too on your other devices. The IQ box doesn't have WiFi though so you need to plug it into an Ethernet cable connected to your modem.

I actually don't have my own foxtel account but set a friend up who gave me his account details. So I access everything he has via foxtel go on my HTPC. Surprisingly good resolution.

        https://www.foxtel.com.au/got/whats-on/foxtel-go.html/

  • I have an iq3 box which i think has wufi? Is that still relevant to us? We can watch the standard tv channels on our tv through foxtel?

    • I dont fully understand your question here sorry. Yeah, the iq3 has wifi and can access all fta channels (provided you have an aerial point there aswell).

  • Has anyone cancelled yet? What's the process like? Is it a 35-day notice or can cancel the day the trial period ends?

    • +2

Yeah - I cancelled a few weeks ago:

"RE cancelling the trial 35 days before the three months ends…I cancelled 8 days before the three months was up.

Got a confirmation of cancellation email, then they sent out the aus post return code, and I took the box and cables to the post office, and they packaged it up sent it off."

FYI: They're still offering free 3 months, but installation of $175 now.

Foxtel from Telstra 3 Months Free Platinum HD Subscription offer only available to customers who have not had a Foxtel service within the last 3 months. Installation and equipment charges of $175 apply for the iQ2. Installation and equipment charges of $300 apply for the iQ3. Ongoing subscription charges apply after 3 months unless you change your package or cancel earlier. Not available in conjunction with any other offer.

  • +1

Called last night to cancel right on the day before I'd start being charged (I confirmed this via online crowed support). Was asked why I wanted to cancel. I said too expensive. Asked what I watched. I said movie and sports. Was offered an extra 2 months basic pack plus movies, sports or drama (only 1) for another 2 months for free.

  • +1

So the people that cancelled it day before 3 months was up did you have to pay extra because it wasn't 35 days notice?

    • +1

I gave less than 30 days notice when I cancelled. No cost whatsoever.
They will send out a letter a couple of weeks before then end of the contract with 3 options. 1 - keep as is; 2 - keep and alter packages; or 3 - return Foxtel box. Select 3 and they send out another letter which you take to the local Post Office with the Foxtel box, remote etc - they pack and return - again without cost to you. :-)

      • +1

        Thanks for the info :)
If you decide to cancel do you keep until the last day or does it cancel once they send the second letter?

        • +1

The way I understand the process, you keep the service up until the end of the 3 months.

I didn't realise they were send me a 'choice' letter so I had rung them about a month before the end of the 3 months to ensure I wouldn't get caught with any charges and ended up cancelling the service immediately.

  • No free bonus months on offer when I called the last 2 days. No discounts either.

That said, I got my $200 welcome credit promised when I signed up to this promo. Means 3.3months of free hd sports before transferring over to foxtel to negotiate.

  • So I called Telstra to cancel over a week ago, foxtel is still working and I haven't received anything in the mail to return the box.

How long did it take for your prepaid satchel to get to your mailbox so you could do the return?

    • You might want to call them again.

My Foxtel box stopped working within half an hour of cancelling, and they sent the aus post return code via sms the next day:

      https://www.foxtel.com.au/got/support/accounts-billing/equip…

      • I shouldn't have called.

I was in limbo where Telstra thought I had cancelled and foxtel thought I was pending cancellation.

Wasn't offered the 2 months free/extra and disconnected by the end of the day.

Oh well, was good while it lasted.

  • +2

Can confirm that the additional 2 months free with Entertainment + either Sports, Movies or Drama is being offered.

    • Is that when you sign up or go to cancel?

  • Anyone know if we get to keep the powerline adapters when we cancel the subscription?

    • Well, looks like we do get to keep the powerline adapter…got the SMS code to return the set top box, and when I went to the post office, they only took the IQ2, remote and power cable…I tried to give them everything, but the lady refused to accept it, said that "it wont fit", any one experienced the same thing? Happy to keep the powerline adapters if this is the case..:)

  • +1

Yup, can confirm I got the extra 2 months offer as well. You have to pay $10 extra for HD. If you want more than one package added on by paying extra, I recommend you take the offer with sports as it is $25, whereas the other packages are $20.

  • Couple of questions, I want it in my bedroom so does the tech say where it goes? And I live in regional NSW, so am I likely to pay for installation and set up?
    Thanks

  • Called for Cancellation. They offered free Basic and Sports/Movies/Drama. Opted for basic + sports for another 2 months free. Will call them in 1 & half months to cancel again, if there is no cancellation fees, which basically isn't

  • I also called up to cancel today and they offered free basic+sport for 2 months. Happy days :)

  • Yep, just called to cancel (2 days before end of 3 months!) and was offered the 2 months free :)

    • +2

Same, called 132200, said 'cancellation' to the robot, gave my Telstra billing account, asked to cancel, the operator offered two more months of basic plus sport/drama/movies. I picked basic plus movies. Platinum package will last two more days too. Happy chappy here.

She then said there would be a survey with two questions, and coached me through them, lol. Have I satisfied your request, I belive so, and would you rate me 10 out 10 sir… Awkward silence, yeah sure, I said. Then I gave her 10 out of 10, hopefully she will be happy with that rating :)

  • To those of you who have cancelled, did you all do it by phone?
I dislike phoning, much prefer emails.
But chatting online with Telstra on another issue, they cant chat with me on Foxtel, and said there's no email address either. That I must ring.
    Any ideas please?

    • Just call…

The sales girl I spoke to knocked $10 off my monthly mobile phone bill while I was there. Sure, she tried to sell me a $15/month data bonus, but I just nicely said no thanks and she was fine with that, and took off the $10 :)

    • Yeah, by phone, if you call on your Telstra phone, they pickup your account and it's mostly a robot, just say cancellations, when asked.

  • How to get the powerline adapters I am on my 2 months free after the 3 months can I get them or do they charge you?

    • Call 132200, and ask how can you connect to your router, as its in the next room, they should be able to help you out. Might be a fee it'll be another delivery.

  • +1

I rang to cancel a day before my free period ended. When I said I wanted to cancel they asked the reason and what did I mostly watch. Said sport so they gave the 2 months entertainment and sport for free.

    • Thanks Smity. I'll keep that in mind when I ring to cancel

    • Thanks I will set reminder to call Two days before 3rd month anniversary of my installation date.

    • Just got offered the same deal - came on here to update this thread and you are already ahead of the game!

That takes my foot coverage through to mid september - when all the finals are live anyway!!

      Then cancel ahoy!!

Hope they roll this out next year - will just need a new $2 sim :)

      • so, just call one or two days before offer expired? (installation date + three months less one or two days)

  • No probs

Make sure you download some stuff on demand because you can watch it later on your basic package and won't be able to download it with the new 2 month deal :)

  • +1

Also got offered another 2 months free sports + ent SD package when I called up to cancel today

    • Good news. I was worried when I phoned up to cancel next week they would have stopped the 2 months free package. Thought it might have just been something to keep subscription numbers bumped up at financial year end 30 June.

      • Me too I will have to call to cancel around 20 21 22 July.

    • What did you say your reason for disconnection ?

      • as one of the comments above - they asked what did u watch the most and I said sports (which is the only reason why I would prob want foxtel anyways)..

        • Cheers, called them this arvo and offered Ent + Movies for the next 2 months. Sweet.

  • Anyone know what happens to the Presto subscription once you move off the initial Platinum HD trial?

    • You lose it

  • Be careful, Telstra charged me for Foxtel over that add-on 2 months free, just had to deal with them

  • +1

Just called to cancel, was offered 3 offers to stay (and another member has quoted these offers mentioned):

    • $35/month (ent + another package)
    • $50/month (ent + sport + movies + drama)
    • $99/month (platinum HD)

I said I couldn't justify more than $20/month, and I was kinda hoping they'd come to the party but alas they didn't, so bye bye Foxtel!

Cheers OP, was a good run while it lasted :)

    • Aaaaand just got the email to say no more presto lol

    • So they wouldn't budge on the $35/month (or extend the "trial":P)? I wonder if our friends at Whirlpool have better luck.

Interested to see if you tried to cancel after being on $35/month they might drop the price even further lol.

    • what? you didnt get extended free 2 months for 2 choice of packages? everyone does including me. so i get total 5 months free.
what we want is another extended free offer after the 2 months.

      • I did, I just finished the 5 months :)

what we want is another extended free offer after the 2 months.

Which they didn't offer, they didn't budge from the $35/month (well, didn't offer me the $20 I said I thought it was worth)

        • oh ok ok so thats all .. 5 months with foxtel. not bad.

    • How did you get those deals? I rang about cancelling and all I got offered was free HD reducing my $93 bill to $83… Complained for a good 15 mins but she didn't budge at all…

      • Just what was offered to me on the phone yesterday, I didn't even ask it was just a case of "well, if you want to stick with it, there's some deals on"

  • +1

Read through this (and look at the pretty pictures!) to see what needs to be returned, and what you can keep!

I'd recommend claiming the powerline adapters (I forgot) because you don't need to return them! No need to return the cables (including HDMI) or the remote (which you could probably offload on Facebook or to friends/family)

    • doh didnt asked for the adapter during installation .. hmm would it be possible to call now and say something oh i moved my tv (or moved house???) so i need adapter bla bla bla

      • Yeah I'm sure there's something you could say. Wanting to put the modem at other end of the house and the wifi wasn't strong enough?

  • My free 3 months is up shortly and I think we would just like to keep entertainment plus sports package. Does anyone know if this would be allowed to continue on a month to month basis or would they expect a 12 month contract?

    • You'll get offered that choice for 2 further months for free (down from the full package you have now), and then after the 2 months you should get offered it for $35/month on a 12 month contract

      • Today I was offered a further 2 months free and then $35/mth which I accepted, and there is no contract period. As a bonus I got Drama channels for the next 10 days.

  • so after 3 months free i got another 2 months free. i just started this 2 months free and my first bill is in credit. how come? i dont have other telstra services except $2 simcard prepaid that never been used.

They have credited you part of a month, same happened to me.

  • Which department are you guys going through to get the extra 2 free months? Is it the telstra cancellations department or just the telstra general customer service department? Or are you ringing foxtel?

    • Telstra.

      • The cancellations team at telstra or just general customer service?

  • Please anyone confirm there is no live streams on foxtel for Rio 2016 Olympic. I thought I can watch them on foxtel?

Yes channel 7 has but I though foxtel will have more.

  • Cancelled the trial subscription. Was hard saying no after the 3+2 months trial period and $26/month with no lock-in but can't justify the cost, compared to Kodi.

  • If we cancel, is the already recorded material on the box still viewable until the box is returned?
How long do we get to return the box before the $300 charge is levied?

  • Just about to cancel my free 3 month trial on Monday, hoping to get offered the extra 2 months (just mostly wanting sports). I've read earlier people were getting the 2 packages for free, but had to pay $10 a month for HD.

They'd actually keep me as a customer if they simply just offered to sports package (with HD) for $30 a month. But that will never happen so guess it'll be bye bye FOXTEL soon enough.

  • I called today to cancel. Like others have mentioned they asked what channels I watch. Got extra 2 months free sport + entertainment package without really trying. They also offered that for $35 p/m after the extra 2 months free

    • Is this SD only? I just transitioned to my extra 2 months free of sport but HD is gone. The didn't mention anything about losing HD. Bugger.

      • Pretty sure SD only. Think HD is extra $10 add-on

  • I called today, 132200, tried to get to cancellations department, but they are closed. Have been on 3 months platinum, then tried to cancel, then 2 months of entertainment and movies, now have a $50 bill from Telstra.

I asked to cancel down to free-to-air (which is all we record/watch), the IQ2 box is good as a DVR, I was advised that the cancellations department can help with that tomorrow… Hmmm, I'll have to call again tomorrow to find out what is available. Hopefully $10 a month just to use the box for free-to-view PVR goodness.

I then asked to ditch the movie package as I don't have time to watch any movies, the operator shrewdly suggested I've "paid" up to the end of the month so I she could cancel at the end of the month, or now and my bill would be adjusted, I asked for it to be changed now and I'll live with an adjusted bill :) So, $26 a month now.

Then she said it costs as much as a pack of cigarettes, who does she think I am, the Marlboro man? Maybe I have a cold coming on and sound sick, hmmm.

  • My friend rang Foxtel 2 weeks before 3 months was up, and asked to downgrade to the cheapest package $25. Was gladly accepted by Foxtel. No offer for freebie…. Fall flat on his face :-(( He was too shy to ask for freebie….

  • So basically the maximum months that we can have free Foxtel is 3 months HD + 2 months lesser package ? Has anyone managed to get more free months after the 2 free months end ?

  • Well my 5 months is up today and I don't think I'll really miss it. The only thing I'll miss is catch up NRL (SD is yuck anyway), random classic NRL matches and NRL 360. The rest I can get elsewhere for free or won't miss it.

Fetch TV is coming good, thanks OPTUS.

  • Brought the unit to Aus Post and return shipped. Thanks OP, Telstra and Foxtel. Funny that remote is an optional return, but I still returned it. Can't stomach keeping anything, especially after 5 months of free use.

And yes, bring the unit and the accessories to Post without the box. Post will put it in a big padded bag. Can't believe the items fit in the one bag. You get to keep the AA batteries though, as Post won't accept them.

    • Also don't forget to keep the powerline unit as well ;) Strange that they do allow you to keep the remote and all that, would have thought that would be a requirement.

When my final 2 months run out I'll just give the remote to a mate who has Foxtel so he can have a spare!

  • +1

Mate got a cheque in the mail. Amazing. Telstra made you watch Foxtel for 5 months then hands you a cheque. The company is really doing well. Maybe I'll get one too.

    • scroll up, i got $6.80 credit too maybe that will be refunded! yayyyy 1x future lunch sorted.

  • I cancelled Foxtel today but no information if I have to return the box. How everyone got the instruction ?

    • I got an SMS with a code to show the person serving me at the post office…pretty sure the SMS came a couple of days after I cancelled. I only had to return the main IQ2 box, power cable and remote (though there are some here who have reportedly kept the remote too), and kept everything else, it will most likely be the same for you…if you were given a powerline adapter, you get to keep it..:)

      • You can keep the remote without issue, it's shown on their website what you have to return, although a bit weird that it doesn't include the remote.

        • Would you like to have to clean it so well it was usable by the next recipient?

  • called last night the girl say return remote. i said website https://www.foxtel.com.au/got/support/accounts-billing/equip… doesnt mention remote but she said "not sure but the script i have here say i need to say remote as well"
    funny

  • Called today as my free 3 months is up on Sunday. Got offered the extra 2 months free with the basic + sports pack (I only watch sport anyway). Awesome! Will try and negotiate a good deal in December. If I can get it to $30 a month for HD sport I will continue with it.

    • Gonna be hard, you'll be ~1 month before their Post-Christmas sales

      • Good point. Might cancel and hopefully sign up for the new '3 months free' campaign, since the current one I am on was a delayed start from Dec/Jan promo.

  • I got 3 months free they offered addition 2 months free went to cancel second time and got an addtional 2 months lol

    • You're lucky. I just went to cancel for a second time and they offered entertainment+ with sports for $35. No thanks.

Interestingly she said that they want the remote back and the "cords". I'm keeping the HDMI cable ^^

      • Haha yeh I dont even use it :p

  • For anyone that got the extra 2 months free what does their Foxtel from Telstra account show? Mine shows 'Out of contract'. I know my 2 months is almost up but can't see that anyway in my online account. My last Bill for $0 was generated 16/7/16. Have others kept on receiving $0 bills?
