  • what are the travel dates?

    • All $1 sale fares are for travel on Tuesdays and Wednesdays on mainly early and late flights only between 10 November and 8 December 2010. All other sale fares are for travel between 12 October - 8 December 2010.

      Will add this above.

      • +3

so far away.. now is only march…

        • Yep, that's ridiculous.

        • Pretty annoying (who knows what I'll be doing at the end of this year) but for the price depending on tax, baggage etc, it's worth it.

  • Does anyone know how much the taxes normally are (Bris-Newcastle)? I have no idea.

  • How much are the taxes? Anyone's got details of the taxes for each route??

    • All airfares in Australia are legally obliged to be tax inclusive. It'll be $1 with tax.

      • I'm 99% sure I've seen "plus taxes" written all the time on sale fares.

        • Not for routes within Australia. Tiger Airways did and got slapped on the wrist for it. You'll notice Tiger's Australian emails are now all tax inclusive, but their Singaporeon/worlwide emails are still plus taxes.

      • If this fare, as you correctly state should include all taxes, then JetStar would be making a loss.

My guess is that as MANY people won't actually fly (seeing the fly period is so far away), then JetStar gets to keep all of those many $1 amounts and credit card surcharges to make up for that loss.

        • Yeap, no doubt. But loss leaders aren't uncommon for big companies.

        • +1

The don't make money from the $1 amounts they collect from people flying. They make money because people will normally get a $1 fare and then need to buy a normal priced fare to get back. Since the $1 fares are only for travel on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, unless people are staying for a whole week, it is unlikely they will get a $1 in both directions.

Having said that, I've managed to do a $10 return Sydney to Gold Coast in the past… $1 fare on the way up, $9 on the way back.

  • i dont see why people worry about tax.. the tix only $1, this for sure a bargain. tax, you HAVE TO pay it anyway

    • No.

You only HAVE to pay the tax if you take the $1 fare.

      Otherwise you don't pay it.

One needs to consider the TOTAL cost of any purchase, not just the headline rate.

hope it's not only for JetStar Mastercard customer.

  • This is good for someone who wants to go shopping @ Melb (from Syd) … go early come home late … if flight not cancelled / delayed which is the case with Jetstar for the last few days :(

    • I would do it vice versa, but too bad the flight is from Avalon. Not worth the hassle of driving to Avalon to board the flight for me.

  • Damn, I wish they would fly to and from Perth.

  • These types of sales end up crushing their servers so many/most people wont get their hands onto any tickets.

    • Probably half the reason they end it at 8pm, so they don't sell them all :)

  • Okay, I just clicked on the link, and it says:

"Thanks for applying for the new Jetstar MasterCard! To show our appreciation we have thousands of $1 sale fares to selected Australian Jetstar destinations! "

    So hmmmmm :/

I hope that's somehow not true, and that it's available to everyone. I voted before I read that…

    • Yeah, it could be linked to the Mastercard application promo, which means alot of us aren't eligible.

  • This is what I found at the bottom of the sale page:

    "Important Flight Information

For all payments by credit or charge card, an additional $3.50 per passenger, per domestic flight will apply, and an additional $5 per passenger per international flight will apply, unless you pay with a Jetstar MasterCard or Jetstar Platinum MasterCard. Telephone bookings (13 15 38) attract an additional $15 per passenger, per domestic flight booked, and $25 per passenger, per international flight booked. Fares are non-refundable. Limited changes are permitted, charges apply. Fares are one way and are subject to availability (not available on all flights or days). "

So I guess we are all eligible but there will be extra charges if we don't pay using Jetstar mastercard.

    • Paying with Visa attracts a $14 surcharge. No option to change to MasterCard (which i have)

It says that your order cannot be processed at this time or something when I try.

  • from 2pm

  • crashing already….

  • Website down again as predicted!!

    • Website is still up for me. But laggy as all hell!

      For $1 tickets….I wait :D

Just don't make the mistake of clicking on anything that you dont actually need to. I clicked "Hotels" out of curiosity. Big mistake :(

    epic fail

    • Yep, JetStar does this time and time again.

What a bunch of technically inept morons.

  • As to the tax issue:

    Adult $0.91
    GST $0.09
    Airfare per paying Adult $1.00

Hope that helps clear it up :D

    Damn it I give up!

  • Corporate Error
An error has occurred. Please try again. If the error persists, please contact the airline.

  • i typed in my name twice instead of me n my partner. line busy. SIGH.

  • I had my flight…and was so excited…but knew it was too good to be true.

When I'd entered all my payment details, it said:
'Error - could not complete because a duplicate booking exists'
    (or something like that)

And when I tried to get back in, they were all sold! I don't understand how I lost my flight!
    Annnnnoyyyyedddd!!!!!

    • i got the exactly same msg when i tried to book my return leg. n now it is sold out. ARGG!!

    • +2

Yet even while angry you don't slur your vowels.
      Commendable.

PS General question. What's the $1 + friend price thing mean? I've made it no further :(

      • I can't stand bad grammar :o)
Yep, well and truly lost my flight :(

Ah well. Maybe it's just not meant to be!

  • sold out fast

  • -1

    No SA :(

    • +1

no offense but your "No SA" posts all over the place are getting quite irritating and don't really contribute to the topic

  • Don't worry… it will be fast once all the tickets are gone =(
I made it all the way to the payment page but now it's not going through… been at that page for 20 minutes.

  • If you wish to finalize this purchase, please type in the security code in the supplied field, then click 'Submit Payment'

BUT THERE IS NO SECURITY CODE PROVIDED OR SUBMIT PAYMENT BUTTON!! what do i do???

  • done. sydney - goldcoast 6 adult 1 infant return total $12.00.

Used direct deposit as payment method and save about $40 on fees. Gives me 2 days time to think about it.

  • Just a hint everyone. I once found it easier to pay by direct deposit. No need to rush to type in the credit card details and you even have a couple of days to consider whether you really want the ticket.

    • +1

it isn't going through for me…

I use direct payment, then click continue, but it returns to the payment page…

      • I guess they could've done it that way because its meant to be for the new jetstar mastercard holders

    • can you please explain how you can have two days with a direct payment ?
can you cancel witin two days ? if so, what is the proper way to do it ?
      thanx.

      • if you choose direct deposit, and don't make the deposit within 2 days, the booking gets cancelled. so if you change your mind after clicking the book button, just don't transfer the money. ;)

  • i managed to get $2 tickets (+$7 credit card fee) for 2 adults from melbourne avalon to sydney. took about 10 minutes for all the pages to load but got it in the end.

  • I wouldve been pretty annoyed if I had applied for a credit card just for this sale lol

  • Out of curiosity I checked if I could get from Syd-Mel one day in Nov and back the next. The only $1 tickets that were available were either at the crack of dawn or just before midnight. I think I'll pass.

  • I got my tickets for 2 adults. and i paid $14 for using Visa.

but one question, i remember when i was selecting flight, that $1 option shows something like "take a friend for free"..but i didnt get free tickets for my friends in the end??

  • tried about 3o times, error error error!!!! tried calling they cut out after holding for 5mins or so. not happy jan!!!!!

  • I managed to get two tickets Syd to Mel for Wed 24th November. Also managed to get tickets to the Gold Coast last time Jet Star had their $1 deals. On both occasions, I experienced some website congestion but managed to book the tickets after about half an hour.

The trick is to be there at exactly the time the sale opens. If you come like five minutes late you will more than likely not get through.

I paid via visa and for two people paid $2 plus $7 visa booking fee so paid $9 all up. Not bad at all. Now got to keep an eye out for promotions for flight back, closer to the date.

Just though I would share that tip with you all, to give back to the forum which has saved me heaps of money in the past. Keep posting up deals and promotions, it is appreciated.

  • jetstar you are sly, sly me out
$595 return (all included) and I bought $690 last week
    cost me $100 more

damm jetstar with their sales i swear

  • Not sure if everyone has checked but don't forget theres some international routes on sale. I honestly didn't check how much Jetstar's last sale came up with but Bali is $—- one way without baggage and Fiji is $—- return no baggage (both from sydney)

EDIT: Must have been a Jetstar bug - they are now showing at proper sale prices.

  • i think there all just about gone.

  • where is the $165 fiji return???

    • There must have been a bug with taxes not being included properly or something. Total has gone up to $262.10 now.

  • its $57 plus $70 something taxes so $129 each way!

    • I think they must have made a mistake. I checked a couple of fares and even a couple of minutes later the Hawaii fares have jumped by about $100 return (despite still being on sale). Sorry to get you excited!

  • how come mine's showing up as $75?

  • couldn't find a single $1 fare for those dates!

  • Bought a $1 ticket from Sydney to Gold Coast :)

  • don't know y u lads could not get thru. i've manage to get 3 trips for the wife and me for $18 return (sydney - avalon). so if we're busy on any one of the date, we'll just lose that $18.

  • I bought Syd to Nadi just A$165 return.

  • It costs $2 to assign a seat after a booking is made. Grr it was too slow to do it whilst booking.

I managed to book: 4 x Gold Coast to Syd return, 4 x Syd to Mel return, 4 x Syd to Gold coast one-way.

I had problem with Firefox. It wouldn't get past the payment stage. It failed everytime. Explorer had no problems.

  • Great deal, but I was too late :( oh well, next time.
