Optus $30 Pre-Paid Starter Kit for $5 @ Woolworths [Marsfield, NSW]

570

Not sure if this is across all the woolworths stores or only to this store(Marsfield, Sydney, NSW). The label shows $10 but after scanning it came up for $5. Attached invoice.
There were quiet a few (around 10) left when I got this one.

  • Do these work for google play?

    • Not according to a quick google they dont, Optus offer on Post paid only :(

    • No.

    • That is a negative.

  • +2

I wish these still had 3 months free Netflix with it.

    Any confirmed stores in VIC?
I assume these $30 packs comes with 3gb data

    • +4

I just checked my local woolies and they scan in as 10

      • Same at Ashfield, NSW.

        • +4

Lol.. I don't care about votes at all.. But find it funny that anyone would downvote helpful advice.

        • +2

Because you see, he was asking for VIC not NSW.

          Btw I didn't neg you.

        • @Vampyr:

I agree. All you did was share some good advice.

        • @Vampyr:
There two upvotes from me (1 per comment)

        • @Vampyr: It wasnt just a helpful advice at first. It was attach with a neg vote to the OP. Which was inappropriate.

        • -3

@highdealer: it wasn't a neg vote to the OP. It was a neg vote to THE DEAL, which was correct at the time before the title was edited.

    • It comes with 6.5 GB atm.

      • How do u get 6.5gb?
The best I see on a $30 recharge is 3gb

Until 12 Feb when activating you get 6.5 GB data (1.5 + 5 GB bonus). It's impossible to know this from the Optus Web site right now, because they have updated it for their next offer that runs until May and removed all references to this offer, but having activated 2 days ago I can confirm it is true. I could still see the old offer in the Google cache a few days ago, not sure if that's still the case.

        • @nickj:

          Oh wow thats great!
Any idea if this $10 pack will get the same 5Gb bonus?

  • Probably store specific, maybe their expiry dates are fast approaching?

    • Expiry on the one I had is 01-Dec-2016

  • Does anyone know if these come with a number or if I can port my number from amaysim?

    • If you don't specify that you want to port your number them you'll get issued with a new number. Amaysim uses Optus 4G, and from what I understand porting carriers within the same network is slow, but does work. Ideally though you'd probably go amaysim to Telstra / Vodafone to Optus. I try and accumulate prepaid packs on all the networks when they are $5 or less for a $30 starter kit, and it's usually clear which network to jump to next based on expiry dates + switch networks guideline.

Thanks for the reply, so how would I specify? Thought the live chat or is there an option in the registeration process?

        • you will get an option to port in(existing number) or get a new number while registering the new sim online

  • Checked at Sunshine vic and were down to $10 not $5

    • +1

      $10 in Pak'ham.

    • -6

      Why the up vote?

      • Because a $20 discount of a $30 item is still a bloody good deal.

        • -4

So post it as a deal.. I'm not knocking the OP, but this deal isn't as advertised.

        • +5

          @Vampyr:

Umm yes it is? It's $5 at Marsfield woolies which is what he advertised…

  • Thanks anyway, but I'd rather shoot myself in the leg than sign up to Optus. Even if it was free, awful company with terrible customer support and no reception.

    • I would have to agree with you I have been a loyal customer since 1999 home phone and cable internet now switching to Telstra. I was connecting at 100mbs a couple of years ago now lucky to get 5 and all tech support tell me is network issue can't do anything & that I can go somewhere else. Oh and my brother switched to Optus mobile too and within 3 months had to leave because of reception issues.

      • what areas are you guys in? i've been having issues with Amaysim (which is thru Optus) since before xmas where someone rings me but phone doesn't ring then i get a missed call msg. Hard to pinpoint exact issue though as it doesn't happen all the time, mostly at night. I've asked around & it seems to be a network congestion issue. I'm in Box Hill vic, lots of restaurants, train station, shopping centre, tafe about 1km away from me so it makes sense i suppose. A friend on Optus lives in Nunawading & has no issues though with 4g iphone. I'm on a 3g Samsung s2 phone though so not sure if that factors in.

    • I've been with Vaya (optus based) for years and the performance of the network has been fine, even outperforms Telstra where I am. All comes down to your location I guess. You probably just got unlucky.

  • Looking for a data sim for my ipad, just wondering how long you can use the included data for?

    • If prepared to switch data OFF by the end of ea '23:59,' then 15 x 0.5 GB sessions to use up in 6 months on Daily Plus/$2. or 1x1.5GB/Monthly+.

Optus facilitating change of plan mid-month looks newly introduced. Huzzah!

the best time to change your plan is when you’re out of credit, your credit is expired or is about to expire.

Wondering if someone experienced can confirm 1. "If you’re moving between any Prepaid plans, you will keep any MyCredit balance you have"(excluding bonuses, so top-up 0.5GB w $5 MyCredit 30d Monthly+) and 2. Could you then move back to 6 month Daily Plus with your remaining MyCredit balance intact- or at least kept expiry date from the original activated Daily+ carried over ??

Maybe just change b/w long expiry<->daily plus and expiry renews for free.

  • nice one

  • anyone know if it's available in WA?

    • 10 bucks at woolie spearwood yesterday
