  • Epic deal.

  • WOOT the last time they had this was like 10 years ago

    • They actually have this special every few months if not less and the code 777 is always used as I understood from other forums

  • wow nice. I got 1. =D
just in case i would need some tunneling done.
    cheap for 1 year.

  • potential gotcha here: http://www.dreamhost.com/unlimited.html

but seems is a good deal for its purpose.

    • Glad i saw your post before i bought , worst marketing pitch ever

      • There's no "catch". Just like any other host, they prevent the illegal distribution of copyrighted material. Also, they're not a dumping ground for all your movies.

      • "worst marketing pitch ever" .. Ah huh.

It IS unlimited, maybe you should go and re-read the link? The only stipulation they make is that you aren't allowed to use it as illegal dumping ground.

You could create another YouTube with this plan, and they wouldn't have any issues with it - until your site became so popular that the server usage was encroaching on other users.

        • Okay good point so maybe there needs to be an update to say unlimited with conditions.

  • GREAT FIND!!

  • After the first year it goes to $110/y. Not like some of the other deals we have seen where the discount is for life. Not a bad deal if you want a server to play around with for a year but after the year you are back to normal prices.

  • .

  • where should I input the promotion code?

  • is there anywhere that has good deals for hosting on an ongoing basis not just a promo (doesnt have to be unlimited just for file backup etc)

    • webhostingtalk

  • Mind you, the promotion also includes unlimited email and domain name registration for the 1 yr period. There was a 30% off on all domains deal by GoDaddy posted on this site not too long ago; making it $7-8 for 1 yr. Pay an extra couple bucks and get email and unlimited hosting. It's a bargain in my eyes

Just remember that this is US hosting. AUS hosting is generally better for Australian sites but you'll pay more for it.

    • +1

      you’ll pay more for it.

      Hey it's OzBargain :)

(Disclaimer: OzBargain.com.au is currently hosted in US and I would move it back to Australia if I can find cheap unlimited bandwidth :)

      • Heehee, cheap unlimited bandwidth in Australia? I betcha we won't see it in this life time! :p

  • I couldn't find a place to put the code in apart from the referrer. When I got in, i got into a chat session with a support officer who assured me the code was applied.

Still not absolutely sure its going to work.

  • Very nice find! Registered one for me, and my dad one too :)

Just a Q though, does dreamhost replace the whois data for domain registration with their own?

    • Only if you host a domain with them as well. This particular deal is for web hosting, so after they create your account, they will include the details for you to put into your domain registrars settings.

For all those people who are unsure, I'll 2nd Marvnation's comment below. I've been using these guys for about 3 years now (maybe more…) and they are unbelievably good to deal with. Everything is sorted out ASAP.

They allow unlimited domains on most plans, which means you can have this one account, and as many websites on it as you want. I currently have 2 domains pointing at the one account without any issues at all, and will easily add more when/if the time comes for more.

Just registed a domain through them and yes, it does appear to do that. See below:

      Domain Name: ————————-
      Registrar: NEW DREAM NETWORK, LLC
      Whois Server: whois.dreamhost.com
      Referral URL: http://www.dreamhost.com
      Name Server: NS1.DREAMHOST.COM
      Name Server: NS2.DREAMHOST.COM
      Name Server: NS3.DREAMHOST.COM
      Status: ok
      Updated Date: 18-mar-2010
      Creation Date: 18-mar-2010
      Expiration Date: 18-mar-2011

They do say that you can take your domain name with you when you go, so I am not sure if its locked in.

  • Amazing deal, they are truly the best host out there and most of these comments have no idea what they are talking about.

Dreamhost is an amazing Web Host, if I wasn't with them the only other company I would even think about would be http://www.justhost.com/

The good thing about Dreamhost is they are so cool about how they handle every situation, if you have a problem they get back to you ASAP with an answer, sometimes with even a bit of comic relief in it.

Not only does Dreamhost have great service they are just easy to deal with, alot better than other Web Hosts.

  • I signed up, got charged $10 AU straight away to my credit card, then recieved an email stating:

Welcome to your 2 week free trial of DreamHost! If you decide you like
our service, do nothing and your account will automatically renew on
    2010-04-01.

    I'm guessing thats incorrect?

    • +1

They offer a free trial for all accounts. It's essentially a 2 week grace period. If you don't like the service within 2 weeks, let them know, they'll cancel the account and issue a full refund.

      • Thanks, yea that makes sense.

I'm thinking at the end of the year simply transfer the domain to a cheaper hosting provider and cancel the Dreamhost account.

  • Were was i suppose to enter the Promo code? And how do i make it call me, keeps saying "failed" :(

    • Theres a little box near the end of the process stating 'Promo Code' or 'Email of Referrer' (Optional). Just type 777 in there

  • Great deal, I am unsure if I want to sign up or not :\ it's cheap but I have no clue what to use it for, already have a VPS, albeit not optimised, but still :\

I have to say, pickign a domain name is the hardest thing to do :\

  • hmm i entered 777, but didn't say anywhere after that the discount had been applied :S Hope I'm not going to be billed monthly…..

EDIT: Lists this in account "(Discounted to $9.24 for your first year!)"

Auto renews but, have to remember to cancel :S

    • And I bet you that you will not be reminded end of the year :( until you find a full year's plan paid upfront on your cc

    • +1

They always have $9.24 offer in every special season/day, last year there is christmas offer too. exactly like this one. just renew again in the next St Patrick's Day. :)

  • Once you sign in if it says you owe "$0" then you know it worked PainToad, took me two goes haha >.<

  • Been with them a few years. Pretty good all in all.

I must say that I really like their web based panel too and rather relaxed attitude. Performance wise they've always been pretty good too.

  • Will i get charged the full amount without me knowing when the one year expires

  • Server is not located in Australia, isn't ?

  • worse, when u click the promotion link, there is no option for $9.24 so i click domain registration with DreamHost (as i thought it is included the hosting because of the price which is $9.90 (almost similar with promotion price)).

Everything goes fine, they ask for the credit card and next-next and BANG! there is no hosting plan on the control panel. It stated that i only pay for domain name ($9.90), So i contact CHAT LIVE SUPPORT, he ask me to add a hosting plan which i did but i need to pay another $9.24.

It makes things worse. I explain to him instead of paying $9.24 for 1 year included domain (PROMOTION Code 777), now i should pay $19.11 (domain($9.90) + hosting for a YEAR ($9.24))

and he dont give me a sh*t and simply ask me to send a support ticket, and terminate the chatlive right away. what a attitude.

    • Sounds like you fucked up, not them. It's a compartmentalized business, I'm sure live support have no control over billing procedures.

Cut them some slack, open a support ticket, and I'm sure they'll work something out provided you haven't already gone through and purchased the domain name (which again, is your mistake, not theirs)

I just signed up, it is pain-free but a bit tedious. This is the order of the screens:

    1. Click the "SignUp Now" link on that first promo webpage.
    2. Enter a valid email and select a password - these are important, don't fake the email!
    3. Choose the "Register a new .com/net/org/info domain for me" option and type in the domain name (make sure to have searched for one elsewhere) at the bottom of the page
    4. On the "Pick a Plan" page, select "Free Trial > 1 Year for $9.95/mo ($119.40)"
    5. Put in your contact details. Put your phone number in, but you must change it later (see below).
    6. What you type in "Pick First Server Username" becomes your FTP login, and also enter Promotional Code "777" on this page.
    7. Payment Info page - enter Visa/MC/Amex card details.
    8. Click through
    9. Click through
    10. Click through
    11. Click through all these pages selling you stuff.
    12. Click the button to go to your Control Panel.
    13. Log In using your EMAIL ADDRESS and the password that they will have just emailed to you (see step 2)
    14. Next you have to activate the account by phone. Change the "Your Number" field to this format (eg: if you were in Melbourne):
+61.398765432 (where +61 is Australia, then DOT, then area code without the zero)
    15. Answer the phone and type in the 4 digit number, hang up when she says thank you.
    16. Check your email again… you will get a variety of messages, as they activate the account, ftp, register the domain, etc.

At the end of all that, the Control Panel changes and says:

BILLING $119.40 yearly ($9.95 per month)
(Discounted to $9.24 for your first year!)
Started 2010-04-03 - NOTE THE FUTURE DATE

    DOMAINS REGISTERED
(1 registered, 1 free on this account)
    Expires 2011-03-20

    Cool :-)
