    • No. At least not until Dick disappear up their own…

  • only in SA?

I'm yet to see one bargain posted.

Looks like some people got Dicked.

  • Just went into the branch in South Yarra (Vic), nothing you wanted is at discounted prices (most are still expensive). Cheers

    • Just need to wait a month or so and see if anything is left once Dick is getting desperate.

  • +1

On thing in store other than cables, lol, what a joke.

  • neg for dick smith.

  • Surely everything is negotiable now…what's the worst that can happen, they get fired?

    • It would still be fraud if the liquidators pursued it.

  • +1

    No one go, pointless

  • Wow, Dick for sales, finally :)

    • +4

Slagging the brand? The brand was already in the gutter thanks to the previous management and now the administrators haven't helped with their false promises and fiascos like with gift cards and "guarantees".

Now that is it closing does anyone care? I think not (including the staff who are unfortunately about to lose their jobs).

For me, Dick Smith was once a prized brand where you could buy electronic components. Times change and things have moved on, but DSE never found a new niche. It was just another Harvey Norman style store without anything to differentiate it.

Part of the reason why people are 'revelling' in DSE's demise is the ridiculous buy out and sell off by Anchorage. A bunch of MBAs moved in, waved a magic wand and pumped up the value of the business by FIVE times on paper within 18 months. One would think doing this is obviously impossible, but many people fell for it. The fact that their dirty work is coming crashing down is rather satisfying to people who work for a living, rather than shift numbers around to create false 'value'.

Maybe you should say you are no longer associated.

Since that date I have requested Mods un-associate myself. To their credit they did, however I'm once again associated for no reason.

Ultimately the personal greed of no more than 10 individuals at head office over the last few years has put DS in this situation, whereby everyone hates DS and everyone takes this hatred out on employees and former staff, and has now lead to the thousands of other hard working employees losing their jobs.

        • +2

Fair enough comment, and I personally have never had any issues with staff. However there is plenty around here who have had issues with DSE staff and the chain has got a reputation because of it. Also the bad press over staff taking all the deals when DSE had 80% off some products last year also doesn't help. I think 20% off is too little considering the stores are closing down. Unfortunately the media are sprucing this sale as having bargain basement prices when it's clearly not the case.

everyone takes this hatred out on employees and former staff, and has now lead to the thousands of other hard working employees losing their jobs.

It's a bit rich to claim that hatred taken out on employees and former staff lead to job losses. I'd be putting the blame on Anchorage Capital and the directors.

          Busted.

    • +4

What competition? Dicks prices were always close to RRP, they never even bothered to compete on every day prices. Not to mention the staff were always arrogant tossers. Good Riddance.

    • +2

"Expect Gerry Harvey & co to start jacking their prices once DS are gone"

DSE hasn’t been competitive for some time. I don’t think their demise will have any lasting effects on the retail electronics sector because brick and mortar stores competitions aren’t each other, its the online retailers.

      • And who exactly goes to Hardly Normal anyway

  • +5

Don't forget to buy Dick's extended warranty. ;)

  • +1

at least do say all the best to the staffers for them its last few days in the job !!

  • +1

No good deal even they said fire sale, that is the reason why they close down.

  • Well, I'm happy. I bought two Samsung tablets online for 20% cheaper than elsewhere.

    • Which tablet and what did you pay?

      • Tab S2 8inch LTE black. $519.20 each, plus $29.95 shipping.
I was about to buy them for $648 at JB or HN (normal price), although for some reason the black one is $728 at JB.

    • You're game! I'd want to see the stock in my hand before handing over any money considering what happened first time round.

      • +3

My company paid for it. I'm confident they will deliver. We are buying from the receivers now, and they will continue to remain a company after DSE is shut down. Any warranty claims will be covered by Samsung directly. Our credit card company will also provide protection if the items are not received.

      • Both tablets have now shipped. Assuming they've shipped the right thing… which hasn't always been the case with Dick Smith in the past.

    • How are you going to deal with warranty ?

  • Fitbit Charge HR for $159.20. Maybe i should wait a few more weeks for $100

    • Your Fitbit Charge HR is already gone Mr Anderson…

  • +1

Just went to the store in Melbourne CBD. Can't find anything tickle my fancy. Only 5% sale on Apple computers. I want it to be at least 25%.

  • +5

Are their Gift Cards on sale too?

  • iPad Mini 4 Price ? (16gb, wifi, space grey) same as online? or further 5% off?

  • +3

Can we pay with our gift cards??

And don’t worry, the staff will have bought up anything of value well before the doors open.

The sooner this shonky mob are gone, the better.

    • +2

Not necessarily, a fair few of the staff are now on a budget.

  • +1

Only 7 weeks for warranty, if its break down will they offer you a gift card instead of refund?

    • Manufacturers warranty.

      • -6

You are right. Directly dealing with the manufacturers is too much hassle and they wont refund.

  • Oppo R7s for $423 seemed like a good deal to me.

    • How did you come up with $423 are they not $499 normally?

      • 529

      • DSE came up with $423, not me.
I thought it was a good price, and wasn't going to pressure for more discount from a salesperson who is hours away from being out of a job.

  • -4

Let me tell you a joke:

    DickSmith is on sale!

Full stop - end of joke :D

    • +3

Stick to the day job mate ;)

    • +4

      YOU SUCK MCBAIN!

      :-)

  • +1

    not worth

  • The dicksmith ebay store appears to be closed now. I guess no sales items via that method.

  • +1

Went to DSE, not real bargain. Staff mood was a bit off which i can understand.

    • If I was staff I would self discounting products and taking for myself.

      • +2

lol. But they lost their staff discount rights already.

        • +1

I'm sure there are other codes ;)

Or the good old switch the label scan

        • @GameChanger:
That's probably a good deal for the liquidators. Go over the video footage, charge them with theft, claim back full RRP for goods.

  • -4

Accc needs to be called because nothing is 40% off?
False advertising…anyone want to class action sue?

    • +4

      Who we gonna sue? Liquidator?

      • -1

They got the money coming in why not?

    • +3

Nothing you want is 40% off. That's different.

Check the cables, there will be something at 40%.

      • Apple products, including iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch: 5%
        Apple cables: 30%
        Game consoles and games: 20%
        All TVs: 20%
Samsung phones, tablets and TVs: 20%
        All Smartphones (Except iPhone): 20%
        Laptops: 20%
        Microsoft, including Surface products: 20%
        Drones: 20%
        DSLR cameras: 20%
        Headphones, including Beats: 30%
        Bose: 10% off

  • I feel sorry for the staff in all of this. Not only having to deal with negative customers, but now losing their job due to some greedy pricks putting profits in front of everything else.

Also no real bargains. Wait a few more days (or weeks).

  • Looking at the fine print on the "closing down sale" ad on the front page. "We will refund your item if we cant quickly repair or replace it. Even if the business closes or is sold"

Sounds like they'll have some form of future contact number for follow ups, faults etc. Would obviously be outsourced to someone.

    • The receiver would have to set aside funds for future repair/replacement/returns. Obviously the receiver is going to set aside as little money as possible, otherwise they're taking money from creditors and their own fees.

Is there going to be anyone to contact in 11 months time to claim warranty on a $800 DSE TV?

      • I've got a DSE TV about 4 years ago.

Great TV, picture is OK but amazing sound design. Farther away you are from middle of TV (either side - left/right) and farther to the back, you can start hearing it louder. But if you sit right in front of it you can't hear it as much. Surely a feature they forgot to advertise.

    • This is just speculation, but it would make sense if they got The Warranty Group covering it.

That's who handles Dick Smith extended warranties, and because it's technically insurance (not warranty) it'll be heavily regulated.

If that's the case, you're pretty safe.

      • On a printed statement in DickSmith store, it says extended warranty purchased between 1/10/2015 and 1/2/2016 is under discussion with related parties. Extended warranty purchased now is guaranteed by The Warranty Group.

Seems it may not be safe for the extended warranty purchased during that period?

        • That sounds like Dick Smith didn't pay The Warranty Group during that time and just pocketed the extended warranty payments.

So yes, that would be a problem.

  • +1

I'm guessing the 8th week closing down sales is up to 80% off on CHEAP gadgets. No expensive items left by then.

    • +1

That's not guessing. That's controlled clearance strategy.

They'd be mad to start at 80% for desirable goods.

  • I cannot see any bargains!! Useless..

  • +3

Went to Chatswood, staff refused to even acknowledge discounts and are selling everything at RRP.

    • +3

lol wonder if they think by selling at RRP they may save their job?

  • +1

Cheap gadgets are up to 70% off, but could be cheaper if you buy them from a $2 shop.

    http://www.dicksmith.com.au/promotions/reduced-to-clear

  • +1

No discount on all Sony products. I wouldn't call this a fire sales, LOL.

    http://search.dicksmith.com.au/search#w=Sony

    • Storewide sales. I would only use the website to check local store stock.

  • +1

So I get to pay inflated RRP for zero warranty? SOLD!

  • +1

Didn't see any noteworthy bargains in two stores

  • +1

So, what's the record for the most negged deal?

    • +2

26 out of 56 on this one, wait for yours to make it 27 and on :)

  • And most of the products I am looking at is still cheaper on amazon(incl shipping and rate conversion..) or on eBay..

  • +1

Dick Smith really?? even when they're down they're still trying to overprice and squeeze every last cent from their customers.
Will wait a couple more weeks to see how this turns out.

  • +1
  • +2

wow, awarded 'naysayer' status due to the negative vote for Dick, really? I just neg DSE post because of the fact that they don't have bargain

    • +2

That award just means that you've given a negative vote 25 times or more to deals that are still published.

      • i see, but honestly it is not right as the deal is hardly a call for a deal, not even close to bargain as which we are all here for :)

  • Does any one know what happen with bestbuy putting in an accepted offer?

I am guessing they found some thing really bad not to go through with the sale?

  • +3

Wait till the final days and the deals will be much better

    • +2

It's kinda incredible that OzBargainers don't get this by now.

      • Many believe that the prices are set by Dick Smith, who got out of the business decades ago….. or that they are set by the spotty kid behind the counter. Stupidity is rife in this thread….

  • +1

20-40% off for a store that in receivership is indicative of the greedy owners.

should be like 80% off, let's be honest. They've dicked customers for years, the least they could do make up for it as their last hurrah.

    • +6

Why would they start with 80% off on day 1 when they know a lot of people will pick certain things up at 20-30% off? It'll ramp up over the 8 weeks and you gotta kinda decide if you want a slight discount or if you wanna risk missing out. They still need to recover as much money as possible.
