  • The receivers are currently doing what they can to liquidate all stock in a "limited" period of time. What this means for us is that the receivers cannot "wait it out" and hold onto stock, if stock is not sold at their targeted rate per week etc.

The receivers would have previously mapped out a strategy of discounting say a further 10% each week on brands to clear out all stock (20% now, 30% off in a week's time, 40% off in a fortnight).

If we artificially ensure that the receivers do not meet the sale targets each week then it increases the possibility of larger percentage discounts further down the track to ensure all stock is sold.

Ideally we would contract with each other not to purchase from DSE in the next fortnight but the best thing we can do is have in the back of our mind that no matter what item we are hunting, all stock will be at its lowest price the day before DSE ceases trading.

tl;dr - try to buy from DSE as close to the cease trade day as possible.

    • They a phasing out store closures though so it will be difficult to tell exactly when in the next 8 weeks the local store will close.

    • Totally agree Mark .. need to wait until sweat starts to accumulate under the receivers brow .. but i doubt the bargains will be what they want us to believe. They probably would offload to a Grays or similar if time runs out.

isnt that collusion is it legal? also how can you artificially ensure the receivers not meet the targets? I was many people in the shop.

  • A liquidation sale with only 5% off on apple macbooks? Not sure who is worse Dick or the Dicks Liquidator.

  • Yeah sorry Dick Smith, no deal. Lumia 640 - claimed as "20% off", but it was the same price before the liquidation (and only $20 more in August 2015).

    • Same deal with the Kindle Voyage. $300 last year and it went down to $269 this year and now it's still $269 with the 20% off deal..

    • I've seen the Lumia 640 for $160. Dick is $109 more expensive.

One final dick move I see… prior to this deal the S5 was $570. Today with "20% off" it's $527

  • A blonde is out shopping in town when she sees in the shop window a nice TV. So she walks into Dick Smith and asks if she could buy the TV and the manager says "I don't serve to blondes".

So she walks out, dyes her hair red, walks back into the shop, asks if she can buy the TV and the manager says "I don't serve to blondes"

Really angry now, she walks out, dyes her hair brown, changes her skin colour to black, changes her eye colour to brown, buys a moo-moo, puts it on, changes her shoes, walks back into the shop, asks if she could buy the TV and the manager says "I don't serve to blondes"

The blonde says "How the hell do you know I'm a blonde"

The manager says "Well that's a bloody microwave!"

  • Was told in store today that a lot of tags aren't updated and the prices don't have the 20% discount applied unless its explicitly stated with a ticket.

  • checked out the store today, the sale is a joke. Horrible stock, no bargain to be had.

  • So I haven't read every comment but has anyone noticed the current deals on the website (% off sales for specific categories) has an expiry of 29/2/16?

This can only mean that a further discount will be applied after this date yeah? Surely it won't go back up to full price :P

I checked a store the day before the sale, looked at a few items I was interested in but had no idea what % off they would be. The items such as TV's and hard drives are either the same ticketed price or ever so slightly less than they were before the sale. So I thought I would check click and collect stock levels for these items and they were all sold out. Either people are buying up the sale hype that is a sham or something is not right.

    • Lifehacker is reporting that prices will drop every Thursday. The 29/2 expiry could mean that prices will drop sooner. I certainly doubt they will go up. There's always the option that the same sale will start on 1/3, so prices could stay the same until Thursday. Time will tell.

      • Don't get me wrong, it's a very smart approach. The Saturday when the leaked fire sale started and there was next to no bargains left still had stores busier than ever before and people walking out the door with goods.

It can only last so long though until people realise it's all pretty much normal price. If they don't start discounting properly soon they will be stuck with a heap of stuff.

Also due to there being items priced HIGHER than a week previous to the closing down sale I'm gonna neg this deal.

  • Samsung Galaxy Gear VR for $119.20 after 20% off $149 if anyone cares.

  • I am after a SAMSUNG GALAXY TAB A 9.7". On the website of DSE, it shows the price of $349. It is dearer than the everyday price of OW($328.00). That is what they call 20% off.

  • Is there a way to search deals by negative votes?

This deal would surely have to be close to the top.

Someone's not happy about negative Dick Smith talk, gone on a neg neg rampage.

      • +2

        Evened it up.

  • So Lifehacker was saying that DS would be doing incremental increases to discounts each Thursday. Anybody been in to see if things have improved? Wife went to Carlingford this morning and saw nothing special. Will head across to Macquarie at lunchtime to have a look.

    • Yeah they upped the discount on mobile cases/accessories from 30% to 50% :/

Lots of "not that great deals" have been actually selling so I'm guessing they will wait until the frenzy dies down.

I have a friend who works there and they have POS for 90% off etc ready to go when instructed but that could be a fair few weeks away and most likely on the already useless stuff.

  • I saw Vodafone version huawei mate 7 for $404 yesterday, not sure if it is a good deal.

  • Website now say 20% to 50% off

    • "It's a trap"

    • Website also has "Offer ends 11-Mar-16" on the items I've been watching.

Forced alarm of bargains ending is forced.

    • The 50% stuff is all the cheap crap like mobile cases, cables, etc. as noted earlier. Was in the Macquarie store over the weekend - nothing of substance has had its discount increased.

  • No big sale, just the usual

BTW Don't try and C&C I doubt you'll get it
