    • Look online. Those prices reflect the prices in store.

    • I got the UE Roll for $98 at JB a couple of days ago

    • i was in before, looked at them. i think they have 98, 149, 249 models, then i think its 10 or 20% off that. are they any good?

  • +36

Had a look this morning at the sale. It is absolute garbage, most items are still more expensive than what you can find online elsewhere. This isn't a fire sale, it is "let's see if we can still get a few last suckers in on inflated prices"

    • +2

What I found surprising is that they're not price matching for stock in other bricks and mortar stores. I asked them to price match a keyboard at Melb CBD Dick Smith to prices from a couple of inner Melb suburb stores and was told they will only price match to other Melb CBD stores. When I started looking at prices for Melb CBD on my phone, I was told that they couldn't go below cost price anyway, which was a few dollars less than they had listed (and about $10 more than other stores).

  • +26

Not seeing a bargain here. And the 20% off TVs thing is almost an insult as they mostly stock their own branded merch - how does one get warranty on a DSE branded TV?

    • +3

well, they could be considered as collectors items

      • Problem is DSE branded stuff has always been junk. Back in the day almost everything at Tandy was an in-house brand but they were all quite good.

  • +2

Now remember that the savings aren't going to be massive day 1. As we get closer to the end the prices should go lower.

    • Have they announced an end date?

      • +1

8 weeks so my guess is end of April.

    • +11

Thats if the staff doesn't hoard all the good deals and wait till the end to actually purchase them…..

      • +10

which we are sure that will happen anyway

        • +7

which if we are been honest we all would if we were about to be unemployed.

        • +2

@DarwinBoy: well, leave the ethical part aside, snapping some great stuff to resell latter for $$$ or helping the efing company that in high debt and barely can pay you much, you would just choose what works out better

        • +2

          @DarwinBoy:

The staff have been doing that for years at DSE. Anyone remember their dvd/blu Ray sale a couple of years ago? I feel for them, but the managemtn allowing staff to horde sale items before the public can see them, was why a lot of people stopped shopping there.

        • +1

          @webtherapist:

There is no helping the company anymore. It won't exist in 8 weeks.

        • +2

@drdolphin: Not to mention all the stories about staff hoarding things during their huge games sale.

  • Is this what Dick Smith means by a fire sale?. A measly 20% off.

    • +7

      Just smokin' at this stage

      • +6

Smoking? More like only 10 seconds in the microwave sort of lukewarm.

    • its progressive..

  • +1

Wonder if I get in there and hide some goodies ( I need a new xbox controller) behind some useless Dick Smith TV's no one is going to buy If I can come back in 8 weeks and pick it up for a steal.

    • +1

By 8 weeks they'll be selling the shelfing lol you'll walk into a literally empty shop

    • Then why not steal it and pay when it is on sale.

      • Well one is Illegal and one is just kind of immoral :P

        • -2

Your first suggestion was also both of those things.

        • +2

          @Major Mess:

          How so?

        • -2

@mavis30551: you are taking possession of goods without owners consent. It does not have to be physical possesion. That's both immoral and kind of stealing.

  • 20% off action cameras… signs are going up now

  • I would be shocked if anything that was actually good was left in stock.

    • +2

or the staff are getting ready to squirrel all the good things away.

  • Anyone know how much the surface pros are going for?

    • Dick sells no surfaces.

  • Looks like the prices on their website have already been discounted…

    • $4 each or 5 for $10

      • +4

        price for the stores? :)

  • +35

So Dick is starting to pull out

    • +12

      slow clap

      • +2

Dick should have pulled out long ago. They just can't keep up with their bigger and stronger competitors.

        • +2

Just an impotent performer with flagging penetration

        • -5

          Creampies are sooo good though

        • But but, my GF says size doesn't matter

        • -2

@mavis30551: That's not what she said to me

    • +3

Saw them erecting their sale signs recently…should have been really big but appears limp right now

    • After nearly 50 years at least you can't accuse them of premature termination!

      • -1

It is getting hard for them these days - to stand erect…

      • -1

perhaps premature eradication should be the charge

    • The balls have dropped, the milk is spilt, and a lot of people got F'd.

    • The consequence of not lubing up.

  • +3

Just a heads up to anyone who was interested in going to dick smith Broadway (Nsw) at the time of writing they still haven't opened the store (50 minutes late)
Whilst waiting for the store to open I did manage to go into Jb hi fi next door and get 3 months free Foxtel

    • If u happen to go in later, please let us know. Looking to get a Samsung phone.

  • customers were hurted emotionally by this shop.

  • +1

Looks like this is really the suckers sale.

I'm sure many will fall for it.

  • +6

From past experience, the liquidation sales involve prices being put back to RRP with gradually higher %s off each week. Right now there will be few things worth nabbing. In a few weeks there will be barely any stock but you may get lucky and get something super cheap. The start of each week will be when the up the % so that's when you can find things worth buying.

Although this signage doesn't look like the normal Hillco liquidation signs, so maybe they haven't kicked in yet.

    • +6

They're temporary Hilco supplied signs, the wording and design are identical - I'd say the Hilco signs we are familiar with won't appear until some time next week (they probably have to be shipped in/printed up/removed from storage).

No idea why any Ozbargainers were expecting more then this. Liquidations run in a very specific manner, and it's only at the end when there's nothing left that the % off gets to the 70%+ mark. The articles from the usual clickbaity pages (Gawker mostly) were using the terms fire sale but if you read their articles they didn't know anything at all about what was going on sale.

I'm actually surprised Hilco are starting at 20-40%, normally they start at 10%-30% or even 5-20%. Probably reflective of the quantity of stock, especially private label that needs to be cleared.

  • +3

Going out of business and can only manage such measly discounts lol.

The two stores near me have had almost empty shelves for months anyway.

  • Good riddance. Pity about staff losing their jobs.

    • +3

      Good riddance?
As much as you may not like the store and never purchased anything there all competition is good competition. This will just cause other places to rise their prices with little competition.
Not to mention I enjoyed some of Dick Smiths deals and purchased a few things from there over the last few years.

      • DSE made the decision years ago that they would be a slightly bodgey version of every other Electrical/Whitegoods chain. This is probably part of the reason for their decline into dodgy behaviour and failure. Point is the other stores are still there and DSE have never really been that much competition for them.

  • Has anyone seen what the price of the Gear s2 at the moment?

  • Do they still sell the Pebble time?

  • +4

I don't know what you guys think, It seem liked most of the time DS HN & JB are ripping their mate off. If DS gone, there will be more reason for whoever left in the market rip their people even more. Just neg me if you don't like I am too lazy to debate here.

    • +3

DS have not been competitive with HN or JB for years, there is a reason there stores are breft of customers.

      • +1

        Since Beginning
        5058 deals (avg 23.1 votes)

        Last 30 Days
        17 deals (avg 26.0 votes)

Had a lot of customers here….. despite all the whinging about them…

  • +2

Receiver sale - great! I need a new one.

    • Buy a new one, you mean new receivership
      :D

  • Bought a Sony Xperia from Ole Dick that sometimes only charges to 93% (not consistant though), should I take it to Dick and potentially never see it again? anyone dealt with Sony for warranty before? Cheers

    • 2 years warranty on xperia phones. Fonebiz takes care of it.

    • Yep, once. Just email/call them, they will provide you with free shipping code to fonebiz.

  • +13

5% off Apple while Myer is having 10% off tomorrow, and Myer isn't going out of business.

    • +1

      not yet. no!

      • I went in walked around saw nothing asked about Apple stuff he said 5% I said you normally have 10% he laughed and said most of the stock sold today :)

  • +2

Are there any actual bargains? 10%-20% off the full overpriced RRP isn't that great.

  • +5

    Still too expensive…

  • ENTIRE STORE ON SALE

Anyone wanna buy the whole store?

    • +5

      Nobody did. That's the problem.

    • +1

We should buy the store and store all the Broden-ed items purchased off here in there.

  • +6

Correct me if I'm wrong, but this should be in the forums. Even if a product is on sale, is there enough stock to be classified as a bargain? As mentioned by many, this is just a % off sale which we're quite used to by now from the many thousand retailers out there…..

    • +2

I agree, its definitely not a bargain. Mediocre discounts on very limited stock, plenty of which either have no warranty (I'm assuming here on the DSE merch) or difficult warranties involving posting direct to manufacturers.

    • Nearly the whole store is on sale, its a better baragin then weekly woolworths/coles deals.

  • +1

Buy items with no warranties or send to supplier/manufacturers in east Australia! Will sale be good enough for WA?

  • +4

Considering you will not have a store to take any defective items back too
I'd suggest it is not sale at all, in fact, its more of a risk than a bargain

    • +1

Manufacturer warranties will still be applicable.

  • 5 to 20% off inflated prices???? Yeah I think I'd rather buy from a retailer still in business and keep my additional consumer law protection.

  • +17

The LG TV I wanted is listed as $1899, after 20% off it's still $1519.20. While Harvey Norman had been selling it for $1495! Sorry, Dick. No deal!

    • -4

How about trying in 2 weeks when it will be reduced further?

      • Then we have to wait for a new post :d

  • +6

They need Tobias Funké advertising their fire sale

    • OMG its a fire!!!! sale.
