FREE Upgrade to Intel 8260 AC Dual Band Wi-Fi, FREE Upgrade to 2yr Platinum (On-Site Pick-Up) Warranty

If you looked at the website, you'll see these are included direct from the manufacturer.

Also, The Division should come free from the manufacturer as well.

So really, you're offering a 500GB HDD free, and free shipping (although manufacturer offers local pickup), everything else is the same as purchasing direct from the manufacturer. So a $99 saving, but the manufacturer is offering the 1TB upgrade for $99…

So for the sake of a free 500GB HDD, why else should we buy from you?

    • +28

Mate, Can I use you as my buying agent for stuff?

  • +1

Yes that's correct, I was just explaining all the offers there at the moment.
The free game redeem ends on the 21st March so the deal ends then as well to coincide.
Both Metabox and ourselves have a "back to Work/School" promotion that is being advertised until 18th March as well so the Wi-Fi and Warranty should change then. see here - http://www.kongcomputers.com/product-detail/gamers/metabox-p…

Metabox have the base unit at $1599 without any hard drive.
The 1TB 5400RPM HDD is now a $49 upgrade with this offer ($1648), instead of $99 on the Metabox website ($1698).
    So a saving of $50.
The free express shipping is also a saving of $30.

So all up a saving of $80 if you want the 1TB 5400RPM HDD or $129 if you want the 500GB 7200RPM HDD.
I hope that satisfies the saving for you :)

    Cheers

      5% off all up?

By the way, is this the new 2016 line or will there be another line coming out this year

      • Hi ily,
The Metabox P640RE came out in October/November 2015.
I don't think there's a new model coming anytime soon.
Strangely though, we re-sellers are usually the last to find out :)
Eventually there will be an update once new graphic cards and/or CPU's are released.

        Cheers

    Great, thanks for posting.
I also added this video review down the bottom of the P640RE web page.
This is for the American variant with different specs.

    Hi Rep.

    • Hmmmmmm, yes hold on. About to upload a deal on the P650RE.
It will be the same price but add in a freebie pack with Mouse, Mousepad and in-ear headset.
      Stay tuned.

What does it rate on the VR check? (ie Oculus / HTC Vive readiness)
    http://store.steampowered.com/app/323910

    • I'll have to get the team at Metabox to check this.
I will get back to you shortly.

The only laptop card compatible with the Rift is the 980 Desktop version.

      • Yes that's what I was lead to believe, but the link that the poster above has copied in says (system requirements) -
        http://store.steampowered.com/app/323910

        Recommended:
            OS: Windows 7 SP1, Windows 8.1, or Windows 10
Processor: Intel® i5-4590 / AMD FX 8350 equivalent or greater
            Memory: 4 GB RAM
            Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce® GTX 970 / AMD Radeon™ R9 290 equivalent or greater

        Kris

        • Hang on, that's for the desktop version GTX970, not the GTX970M.
I'll see if Metabox can test it anyway.

          @Kong Computers:

The Steam program will still give an opinion
on the system when you run the demo/benchmark.
eg. my 4 year old laptop is isn't good enough
because of the CPU, and GPU. :)

      • +1

Minimum recommended requirement is GTX 970. However there have been reports GTX 980M laptops run it as well (at least DK2). Do not think GTX 970M will run it but it is a good deal for non VR gaming potential. Most people interested in VR will probably wait until Pascal release in the next ten months.

    • Vive may work, I think it seems to be less fussy and works very well too.

    • +1

      Capable.

      https://imgur.com/a/NLLr9

Says it uses Intel(R) HD Graphics 530, when it's actually is using the 970M.

2 Screenshots in link using the Intel(R) HD Graphics 530 and the Nvidia 970M.

Note that my P640RE has 16GB of ram instead of 8GB, which probably wouldn't make too much of a difference.

Wow, that's really cheap for a GTX 970M notebook.

  • +4

for the love of god, put an SSD in it.

    • Yes it would be handy :)
When you click on the deals web page, you can upgrade the laptop and opt for an SSD.
There's the "Customise" menus on the right.

      Cheers

      • +2

Thank you for providing the option :)
It riles me up when i see a $1600 laptop without an SSD in it. Such a waste of potential.

        • +2

Oooh its got the option for an M.2 SSD. Nice. Ok you get a plus from me :)

        • +1

          @Riczter:

Haha, yeah including the PCIe Samsung 950 Pro.
I guess it's at $1600 with no SSD due to the GTX970M being the main cost factor.

          Kris

    • +2

If it's anything like my Metabox (W230s i believe) they are very easy to customize.

You would probably be better off grabbing a SSD deal and throwing it in.

      • +2

This is true, you don't void the warranty on Metabox laptops by adding in an extra SSD/HDD, extra RAM or Wi-Fi card yourself.

If i select windows 10 DVD + drivers addon but the machine doesn't come with a DVD drive, does that mean i have to purchase the additional external DVD drive? +59$

    • Hi pop,
Windows 10 will be pre-installed if you purchase it plus the drivers installed as well.
The serial key will be affixed to the underside of the laptop.

You can also download all the latest drivers from the Metabox website.

I'm typing this comment from a laptop bought from Kong Computers last year. Excellent shop and my metabox laptop is ace. Metabox have come a long way in the last couple of years. Very nice build quality :) +1 from me

    • Was it the Metabox P650RG???
      Kris

      • P650RE I think. I just missed out on G-sync

@Kong Computers: haha that is me! Just checked my laptop and it is in fact P650RG lol

I have also bought from Kong computers before and with my research at the time they were the best value buying a metabox laptop, very smooth and easy process. This was about two years ago though, but from the looks of it still holds true. Also note these laptops are amazing bang for buck the only downside with them is they aren't as sleek as some of their competitors but you pay a lot less for them.

    • Cheers kasp,
I hope you are enjoying the laptop still.

My Clevo has aged extremely well. When it dies, I'll be looking for another. Only downside is the short battery life because of the powerful graphics card. Hope this helps anyone considering this (Clevo and Metabox are the same AFAIK)

  • +3

+1 for metabox. Got the 17" monitor version a year ago, maybes not the most stylish but certainly the most customisable and therefore bang for buck laptop around.

  • +1

Only 2kg. Seems like a nicely spec'd laptop. I sold used my p650se for like $1600 a few months back. Kong's price is very good!

  • +1

I have the 13" version that I bought a year ago. Love their customisation options, I highly recommend customising the HDD out for an SSD. Unfortunately, I had an issue with the motherboard that took Metabox over 6 weeks to replace due to some issues with their supplier, but they threw in a gift for the inconvenience - they are pretty good to deal with really.

  • Looking at purchasing this computer to replace my W230st.

Can I use my windows 8.1 disc from my W230st on this so I don't need to pay for the OS?

Also, can I just pull out my old w230st HDD and use it in this computer?

Finally, if I order before the 21st will i get the free game or would I miss out as I assume it takes a couple of weeks for the unit to arrive?

    Thanks

    • Hi footballfan,
      Thanks for the message.
The P640RE doesn't have a DVD drive so as long as you have an external DVD Drive then you can load on your Windows 8.1 onto the P640RE and as long as you deactivate Windows 8.1 on your old PC. You won't be able to use on both systems.
If you don't have a Ext DVD Drive then you can make up an install drive onto a USB.
See Microsoft information here - http://windows.microsoft.com/en-AU/windows-8/create-reset-re…

Swapping over the HDD from the the W230ST and into the new P640RE may work but it is fraught with some danger as drivers may not be compatible. I believe that you wont be able to pre-load on the P640RE drivers. Ultimately though Metabox still support you if you don't buy the Windows OS from them this time and use your own :)
Someone else might want to chime in here with more advice.
One other thing to check is the thickness of the hard drive in the W230ST of yours. Is it a 7mm thick or 9.5mm thick drive. Let me know what type of hard drive you have?
The P640RE only takes 7mm thick hard drives and SSD's.

Yes as long as you order up until(and including)the 21st March you will be eligible for the free game. Even though it ships out afterwards.
You download via a redeem code provided by Metabox and then download from your Steam account.

      Cheers
      Kris

      • Thanks for the detailed response.

I will place an order for one on these units in the next couple of days.

Do you know how long it takes from order to delivery to Melbourne metro?

        • It takes the full 5 business days to get built and tested before shipping and then overnight shipping to Melbourne from the Metabox factory in Perth :)
So 6 business days all up.
          Kris

  • Awesome, I just purchased it :D I was looking at metabox laptops last night and then saw this and it made my mind up instantly lol.
Just wondering how long will it take from now (purchasing it) till I receive it? I've sent the money through bank transfer…

    • Thanks for the order. It has been placed and I have sent you an email about delivery :)
      Cheers
