Awesome. Being a previous owner of a play store delivered Nexus there is no better after sales support available for a phone.

    • +2

Except you cant claim the GST back when you send the item overseas.

      • Possibly, but how many people here are truly doing this. Not to mention you should be repaying it on re-entry /:

        • Trs officer reason is because Google store use Google Singapore office as their address. Cheeky Google :)

        • +2

If it less than $900 you don't have to declare it back

        • You have a $900 (IIRC) or so gst free allowance when you come back into the country.

I did claim GST when I bought Nexus 5, two years back

        • I did claim GST when I bought Nexus 5, two years back

So? Google Australia sold you the Nexus 5 and included GST, the 6P and 5X are sold by Google Singapore and do not include GST.

          @Maverick-au:
AFAIK when you purchase from play store, it's always gets shipped from Singapore. At least mine did.
I asked Google to send invoice clearly showing GST and claimed $42.63.

          @haiprazzad:

It changed a few years ago, invoice show GST $0, now

        • @aldoduco: thanks for the gst info. I was going to get the 64gb 6p, if I could get far back. I'll just wait a bit more now.

        • @aldoduco:
Ohh okay. So no GST return if we buy from play store!!

They have always shipped from Hong Kong but this irrelevant as your Nexus 5 was sold by Google Australia and the Nexus 6, 5X and 6P are sold by Google Singapore.

I asked Google to send invoice clearly showing GST and claimed $42.63.

Good work but that was then and this is now.

    • Hey Dewy you and everyone else in this thread are referring to Google Store as Play Store. But you guys actually mean Google Store right?

I ask because, if I can purchase phones via the 'Play Store' I can use my accrued Carrier credit from Telstra Prepaid, which would be the Ozbargainer hax of the year..

    • How does warrenty work if you bought it from a google store or from stores aussie stock stores like mobile city or jb hifi?

Nexus 6P 32GB still more expensive than Optus and the 5x is cheaper at JB

    http://www.optus.com.au/shop/mobile/phones/outright/nexus-6p

    • +2

Fair enough, but as dewy mentioned it's hard to go past Google's after sales support for their Nexus handsets, and choice of all colours.

      • +2

So you're saying if someone buy from JB, they won't get support from google?

        • -1

You can get support from Google even if you buy it used from some random.

        • +4

          @Mic Cullen:

Wrong, if you buy from play store you can claim warranty with them, otherwise you will need to go to the retailer or lg/huawei

      • -1

I am pretty certain you can still use Google's after sales support even after buying it from JB etc.

        • +2

Nope, you cannot. They'll send you back to POS.

    • Thanks, Mike_Mav.

      LG Nexus 5X 32GB, Ice Blue colour, $447 - $200 off

      https://www.jbhifi.com.au/phones/Outright-Mobile-Handsets/lg…

      LG Nexus 5X 32GB, black colour, $547 - $100 off

      https://www.jbhifi.com.au/phones/Outright-Mobile-Handsets/lg…

      • Not sure if I am missing something but I think that there is $100 dollar difference between the two colours right?

        • Yep, that's how I read it. I'm guessing the blue colour hasn't been that popular.

There's always the option to save dollars by buying the blue and getting a cover, skin, or replacement housing in the colour you want. But I think the blue finger printer reader will still show

  • +5

$200 off and I would definitely bite. 6P is too expensive now with the new boys coming out.

    • I know the following is a grey import, service and warranty service will be well below google's, etc. But still, BH Photo and video have the 32gb 6P around $200 cheaper than google: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1218650-REG/huawei_510…

      • Is the pricing in USD or AUD? Also do you know how long it takes them to ship it here?

        • USD for the main price, but you can choose AUD from a drop down somewhere and it puts an AUD price under the USD price. when I did that it had it at $594AUD. Not sure how long shipping takes, I haven't personally bought from them since 2013.

        • @salem: $63 shipping too :(

        • @rapoot6: that sucks! Their banner says "shipping starts from $12.95 to Australia". I guess that " from " is their loophole.

So I guess we're down to only about $150 cheaper assuming play store shipping is around $15. Or is it free?

BH Photo sell the North American variant which doesn't have LTE band 28, which Telstra/Optus use…

        • valid point worth noting.

  • +6

    Honestly, I have a 64gb 6p and I don't even think it's worth the $744 I paid for it (HN pricematched against 32gb version)
It's OK but it's no better than the Note 3 I had in performance. These things have stopped coming on in leaps and bounds like they did a while back. If you have a decent phone from the last couple of years I suggest thinking hard on the upgrade.

    • What do you not like about the 64GB 6P ? :O

      • 1/ Bluetooth issues are plenty
2/ It's really not noticeably superior to my old Note 3 in any way.
3/ Phone shows signal being quite good at times on Telstra (H+) and it'll just time out loading webpages. Only time it's reliable is when the signal is 4G.

  • Is Nexus 6P worth it ?

I'm having issue with my Nexus 5.. Really need to get a new phone now. I am battling with S7 and 6p..I don't know any other brands or suggestions..
I store photos/video and spotify(offline music) so planning to get the 64GB version.

    Any ideas anyone ?

    • Im on the same boat.
Smashed my Nexus 5 screen ytd and now tossing bw the Nexus 6p and the lg g4 :/

      • If you don't need/want custom ROMs, and can find it for under $500, the lg g4 is fantastic bang for buck (and seriously good camera).

      • Ohh man! that is hard.. I thought about the G5 like.. camera(Wide angle) sold me.. But it doesn't look premium the design. I like the module stuff but it is asking me to carry more stuff.
I am leaning toward the s7 for the waterproof; dislike the theme over the stock android. So I might go with 6P while the sales last until 27th of March so I will decide when the time gets closer hahahah

        • I'm also leaning towards the 6p.

G5 and s7 would be out of my budget, can't justify paying too much for a mobile.

g4 is good in that its got removable battery, SD slot, great camera and also cheaper (~440 from kogan eBay 20% off). But I'm not sure if I'll like lg ui. Been using Nexus for 4+ years and used to it.

Are u considering local stock only? I know Google play has great support but it's only ~660 through Kogan ebay for the 32gb version
if local stock, check out mobile citi they just released a better deal (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/238722)

        • @chew_chew:

I just watched a bunch of S7 videos and I like the expandable SD card and camera, But I can't ignore the stuff that come with the samsung. Nothing wrong with them. But I prefer stock android. I and the design of the 6p to me looks better. Just a bit big the size of the phone that's all.

So I think I am most likely going to go with the black one from google store. 64GB. Should be all right. :) Also I am going to agree with you the G5 + S7 is way over the budget for me. It is nice; but it will hurt my wallet. I am going to away for 3 months. So hoping to use this new 6p phone for some photos or something. :)

    • +1

I love my 6P; the fingerprint sensor in the back is really what sells it for me. The S7 is definitely better specced but that's the 4 month difference really.

      • My power button was messing up the phone when I press it to wake up and it shuts the phone and restart(apparently it was happening to some other user. Seen videos on youtube people having the same issue)

So I downloaded gravity screen app and it kind of works like the fingerprint sensor thing. If the phone faces up it just wake up and unlock it with a swipe up. If I face the phone down it just locks it self. Same with putting it in my pocket. When I take it out and face the phone to me. The app detects that movement and it is facing up it just wakes up without me pressing the button and I just unlock the phone.

But fingerprint Sensor was sold to you. It is all good. I'm liking the stock android and not really liking the size of the phone. Too big compare to Nexus 5 and my pocket might fall out hahaha.

    • +1

I upgraded from Nexus 5. I think the upgrade is well worth it. The main reason I upgraded was the battery life. I'm not even a heavy user and my battery wouldn't last past 7pm and got fed up.
6p normally has at least 30% remaining by the time I go bed.

      • I see your point. Battery life was your main reason to upgrade.

Deciding a new phone now days is so much harder compare to long time before aye? Camera, battery life, spaces and design..

I guess my main reason is camera(a little bit). Space and battery life. I like the s7 phone size 6p is HUGE(used to Nexus 5 phone size). I dislike the samsung theme over the stock android.. my head hurts.

        • Nexus 5 camera is an absolute rubbish and 6P camera is light years better than Nexus 5 camera.
I quite liked the size of Nexus 5 too but 6P is manageable.
You don't really buy Nexus line of phones for anything flash. You buy it for consistency and stability.

        • @djc926:

Hahahaha I had HTC One X then the Nexus 5. It was amazing for me; camera was excellent(HDR mode) and clean full black design. Love it!
I know a lot of my friends said to me once they jumped into the bigger screen phone and they can't get use to the smaller screen. I guess It is okay the size…But it is pushing me and forcing me to get used to the 6P Size. Oh well.

I watched a lot of review of the S7 and it is really temping. But I really prefer the stock android over the samsung or any other OS now. I am most likely going to get the black Nexus 6P 64GB :)

  • Pretty disappointing pricing, the 5x 32gb is cheaper at jb than Google sell the 16gb until tomorrow

Bought 64gb version late November last year for around 850 including the smartwatch. Sold the smartwatch on eBay for around 90 bucks.
Don't think this is a very good deal 4 months on from then.

Optus sells the same Nexus 6P 32 GB at $ 744 and you can also pay it in 8 weeks zero interest.
