1100

Acer Netbook 10.1” LED screen. Wireless connections. Integrated webcam. Multi-in-1 card reader. Weight 1.1kg. Microsoft Windows XP. 160GB hard drive disc 1GB RAM. Intel Atom processor 1.6GHz. Same as what Coles was selling for $389 earlier this year - http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/21689 Pay $237, then claim $39 back from Acer? From what I have read from the Coles offer, it has a 3 cell battery that lasts about 3.5 hours.

For first hour of Saturday only.

Also a Samsung 42 inch HD Plasma for $648, but not limited to the first hour.

My first submission.

  • Is it Aus wide? which state was the ad from?

  • +1

Add was in West Australian newspaper. I couldn't find that laptop on the HN website though, so can't confirm it is Australian wide sorry.

  • How do these first hour sales work? Line up outside the store at daybreak and wait to rush in as soon as they open?

  • 1st hr….saturday, hard to get up, fighting off door busting crowd, what a terrible start to easter weekend, no ty.

  • +2

Yeah, I rang up my local HN and they said they had a lot of the laptops, but also a lot of people phone about them and recommended I get there at quarter to 8 to be safe. I reckon if I were go arrive at quarter to and saw a huge crowd already, I would just keep driving and go have a nice breakfast somewhere instead.

  • They're $349 at Coles at the moment, FYI.

This is a bargain, i wonder how many people will know about it.

The Samsung TV is not too bad a deal, shame it's not Full HD, and with a 42" screen Full HD is fairly important.

  • +2

    Wow.

Such a good price. Hmmmm…Really Tempting. $200. Thats like 2 nights out drinking…lol.

    • +2

      or one… haha

  • Harvey norman open at 9:00 tommorrow right?

  • Can the battery be upgraded to a 6 cell and if so what sort of batter life would you get?

  • Im pretty sure the cashback deal was only valid till the purchases made before 31st march?

    • Not according to the ad

      • Correct pete, the deal was extended to end of April, the other acer netbook threads have confirmed this previously.

  • Just saw the add on TV in Qld. Same deal…

  • I also saw the ad and it's in NSW too.

  • Hopefully they have a decent amount in stock and this is not a loss leader.

    • The amount of stock they do have has no affect on if this is a loss leader or not

      • Well I mean I hope they don't just have 1 at each store, in other words, baiting people to go in there hoping they will purchase other items.

        • +2

HN baiting ppl? surely not :P

        • +1

That's the Bait and Switch. And it's HN. Not only will they be doing that, what's the bet they'll try selling extended warranties and $100 video cables to go with it.

  • is this the AOD250?

  • Just worry about the resolution if connect to the external LCD, will it still be 1024x600 ?

    • no u should be able to change it

    • you can change the resolution, but don't expect the video card to handle anything more than 1024x600. It should be fine for something like 1366x768 or similar, but anything above would be questionable.

  • any one saw the same AD in NSW?

  • I went to the emachines website and the acer website:

    http://www.emachines.com.au/em/product.do?ctx1w.att21k=2&Lan…

    http://www.acer.com.au/acer/wr-resource/3333857683/upload/E0…

The eMachine just looks like an AOD250 just rehashed and doesn't have the avaliability of a colourful chassis, otherwise from what I can see they look practically the same with exactly the same specs!

  • any one saw the same AD in VIC?

    • no

      • +1

yep! Dad saw it on TV!

        • oh.lately, I heard on radio today.

  • find one and install this on it
    http://www.jolicloud.com/

  • i dont think the cash back will work as it end 31st March

  • Advertised special on TV here in TAS - i assume this is Australia wide promotion.

  • Price match at OW?

    • Massari, I thought about the OW pricematch instantly but having checked their website the exact model number they stock differs from the HN one…..despite their specs being (from what I read) identical). I know a lot of manufacturers will give a 'model number' specific to a big retailer….not sure why they do this maybe to help avoid pricematching.

As I bet if you tried this at OW they'd say,"Isn't the identical model number, so sorry we can't price match."

Would be cool if I was wrong though, any other thoughts on this welcomed….

  • Very cheap but I am not sure about Acer brand, had bad experience with Acer laptops…and 3 cells battery is just bad. I reckon all 10 inch netbooks with old Atom processors (N270/280 Z520/530) and 3 cell battery should be priced less than $250…

    • My 1st laptop was an Acer - 5 major repairs in 6 months and they finally replaced it. My Work then bought Acer desktops - 30% failed straight out of the box.

  • Just saw the ad in melb on tv

  • Do we even know which store have them instock in the first place?

  • How many do you think will be on Ebay by tommorrow arvo…

  • Cashback won't work
    Checked current Acer promotion

    http://www.shopacer.com.au/ecprod/ACA/Projects/CashBack/Load…

    • Hmmm it doesn't appear that the cashback deal is on there……so where does that leave HN trumpeting that a cashback applies? I think someone at HN will be getting a very cranky call from Acer!

    • +1

according to that site this model doesnt even qualify for a cashback
then isnt it illegal to advertise like this?

      • +4

Well, you go in and say, "The ad says you can get a cashback. If the cashback was a hoax, that's fine I don't mind. Now how about you just lower it to the expected price and add on 55c that I would have paid for a stamp and lets leave the ACC out of this."

        • +1

I'd be checking the morning paper for a teeny tiny disclaimer notice ("we apologise for"…blah de blah, etc), tomorrow……..

    • Acer usually updates their Cashback website around the first week of the month. I'm sure they've made a deal with HN already, to extend the Cashback for this, or else HN wouldn't have advertised it. Otherwise, it's false advertising, and HN is liable.

    • The cashback will work, you're just not looking at the eMachines page:

      http://redemption.emachines.com.au/ecprod/ACA/Projects/CashB…

  • Anyone in WA wanna buy me one? I'll transfer you the $$ right now!

Hmm what's the bet, it's one per customer.

    • You are correct sir, it says on the ad it self "Limit one per customer" ;-)

    • Get the missus or your kid to tag along, then let them hold on to it at the counter :)

  • can anyone confirm whether it is a 3cell or a 6cell?

    • at this price it would be the 3 cell
u can get a nice thick 9 cell for 62 dollars delivered from hk on ebay

  • so what can actually run from this machine? will it run Word 2007?

    • my eeePC (with same specs) is my main PC for 95% of stuff. And of-course it will run Office 07.

    • The Eee with similar specs comes with a free trial of Office 2010? so it will easily run Office/Word 2007.

  • Great, just 2 days after I buy a netbook, this happens :(

  • i think i might find a homeless person and pay him in a Maccas happy meal to line up for me…

  • Is this fanless?

    • +1

No, I've seen reports of an ACPI bug re the fan. So there is one.

  • in advertiser (SA)page 8 - so Adelaide counts as well.

  • Anyone get an opening time for Saturday in Harvey Melbourne stores? It is normally 9am … but maybe it will be earlier tomorrow?

  • do not worry, it is not boxing day.

  • +1

I wouldn't worry about missing this deal if you do not need a netbook in the next few months. From history, the prices are bound to come down for older models and you will see same or similar offered in the near future by various outlets.

  • hey i just saw the ad and wow my only concern is what kind of graphics card does it have if any information on this would be much appreciated

  • +3

Haha, love how ppl are expecting so much from such a cheap netbook; the battery, performance, graphics etc.
    It's only $200.

Somewhat reminds me of the quote from The Simpsons: "Squeeze every penny, squeeze every penny"

    • LOLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL

  • Could it play 720p movie ? What is the max. resolution could be if connect to 20" LCD ? Much appreciated !

    • It should do, depending on the encoding, and the software you use.
      mpeg4/divx is a lot easier than h264.

  • This netbook has no usb port?

    Big letdown for me.

  • what wrong with you

    it has 3 usb ports

  • and yet the picture on that page shows 2 usb ports on the right…

and a quick google shows heaps of close up photos

  • Very interesting. Can I expect to see any at a similar price elsewhere?

  • here is the link for the cashback. it's until end of may
    http://redemption.emachines.com.au/ecprod/ACA/Projects/CashB…

  • if u have to send in the original receipt then how would u claim warranty is something goes wrong?
and how does it get paid out?

  • good point….i plan on asking for 2 reciepts.
they will send you a cheque before 2012, and ask you 15 times if you want an extended warranty first.

    • +1

when the ps3 giveaway was running with the sony tvs, i got dick smith to print out 3 receipts, sent one of the copies with copy labeled at the top, about 3 weeks later sony asked me to mail in the original….. i think these cashbacks are designed so people lose their warranties….

  • surely they will honor the warranty with a duplicate reciept???

    • they dont honour a bonus with a copy, why would they honour a warranty with a copy?

      • Having worked for an electronics retailer they always honour copies of receipts. Of course it's no effort to print off several 'original' receipts for you anyway. Usually when customers were buying stuff with cashbacks I'd print off a couple extra receipts anyway just so they had an original. Definitely nothing wrong with having a copy of a receipt though.

  • because they can at least see where/when you bought it. id hope thats enough.

    • -1

Could people then give their friends copies of the receipt and they cash them in also?

      • u need the serial number of the machine

        • No or we all be billionaire!

        • +1

normally acer need the barcode from the box

  • pretty sure they track by serial number….. :P

  • JINX

    • Hey man what you mean? Who you Jinx?

      • me and trance n dance both replied at the same time (i think i was first by a few seconds :P)

  • Could anyone tell me when will Adelaide city store open please?

  • The EM250 available Sat at Harvey Norman City Store or is it all HN stores.
    First time user!

  • 8am apparently, and all stores.(also apparently)

    • Thankyou. Have since seen the TV ad & noticed no particular HN store name. Am hoping to get a bargain!

    • Even if the stores regular opening hours are 9am?

  • just a question, i brought the eeepc off catchoftheday.com.au for $199 the other day but its the model without webcam and things. would this laptop be better than the eeepc??

    • Alot better. The specs are a big difference. I think the Eeepc was a 7" LCD and a 8GB HDD or something right? This has a 10" LCD and a 160GB HDD.
