To those of you who got a great the deal (or who got a raincheck that they will honour), congrats, I hope you enjoy your purchase.

For those of you who had negative experiences, I am sorry to hear that. I posted the ad hoping to share a bargain with fellow community members. All I can say is let it go and don't let poor HN business practice or scummy behaviour from other people ruin the rest of your Easter.

I missed out too. I was too exhausted when the alarm went off this morning, and asked my wife if she would go and line up one for me. Double fale!

One worker told me they had 3! and had sold them. 5 minutes later an older lady walks in asking for one and is told they had 15 and sold out. I was puzzled I rang up my next closest harvey norman asking if I could get a raincheck.I had found out aout this deal through ozbargain and they where very understanding an accepted a raincheck FINALLY a store with customer service

    • triple including the spelling error!

Just kidding - thanks for letting us know about this deal.

and congrats on those who bought one (who wanted one)

        Hi
Mention this post on OzBargain and get the store to take your details.
If you want to let me know what store I will even email the franchisee for you kwanq if that helps.

        Thank
        Gary

        • Thanks Gary. Will stock arrive in time for the cashback though? I didn't put my name down for a rain-check as I thought we'd miss out on the cashback by the time it arrives.

        • Thanks a lot, Gary! Wish more companies would have a dedicated Social Media Manager like you, to satisfy the online community. You've got my vote!

    • +1

good to see harvey norman is doing something to try and serve and satisfy their customers
although having enough stock in the first place would've been better.

    • vTalk about shutting the gate after the horse has bolted.
I myself went to HN Gepps Cross at 7:30am to find 30 people already there.
At 8 when the doors opened it was literally a stampede of people running in, and i even had one snatched from me by another customer. the entire crate was gone within 3 minutes.
Have to say this was not the most enjoyable shopping experience ever, and next time i wont be taking my 3 year old son with me (note i only bought one, i didnt take him as a proxy purchaser like some others)
HN was a well respected retailer, and not in the league of Strathfield who often use these tactics. If you have one of something to sell then its expected it will sell immideatly. When you say 1 hour and they are gone in less than 5 minutes, it degrades the opinion of customers who plan on coming back at a later date to buy a leather lounge or 50" plasma (for example)

Please HN, have some respect for the consumers that get out of bed at 7am on the Easter longweekend, and the poor staff that will invariably bear the customers annoyance.

Now i find out that the 1 hour sale is suddenly the "lets whine and get it at that price anyway"

Just my 2 cents (or 19800 after cashback)

    • Hey I rang up and they took my details and says they'll get back to me in couple of weeks and put me on da list, thx Gary!!

    • cool

Me and my Dad went to Chadstone, at around 7:45. Nobody was lined up or anything, just sitting in their cars (5-10 cars). Everybody got out at about 5 to 8. They opened the gates and people went running (I could not rush because I did my knee last week). Anyway me and my Dad walked in, I asked the bloke and he went and got me one. I have checked and the consignment says there is 37 of them, but I would say they sold at least 60 while I was there. I also saw a fat, misurable woman buying like 5. She looked like she ate everybody before her in the que, lol.

  • I tried Geelong, my parents Mildura, my daughter Perth.
Now I cannot even get through on the phone to my nearest Harvey Norman store.

    • +2

      Hi DxxP
      Email me your details:
      [email protected]
and i will forward on to the franchisee at Geelong for you.
I think the phones will be pretty busy today also.

      Thanks and enjoy your easter.
      Gary

      • Happy Easter to you too Gary. I'd missed out at 8am but got a raincheck at the Hobart shop when I returned with a copy of your email. Thanks.

  • Went to Bondi but all stock on the floor was gone and no others were available.

    V. Disappointing.

  • I'd just gone to the wangaratta store in vic. This lappy would've been perfect for our daughter who's about to start uni. next year but like a lot of other people I missed out by a country mile..They only had 6 units in stock which went after about 1/2 hour of opening..

  • while im here, Harvey Norman had a 60" plasma for sale 3 months ago for $198 and i missed out. Can i raincheck that too? :)

    • yeah the good old 60" panna plasma for $1998 not one harvey norman in sydney would price match the price that western australia store had it for, but HN's in qld, vic and sa all did…. the best a syd store would do was 2300 out at the superstore in the city, forgot the exact place

      • Haha, i read the post above and i thought.. $198 for a 60" plasma? Goodness thats cheap!

  • Geelong Warn Ponds Store were helpful and took details to keep informed of update. So I guess no promises from this. Sounds like they will do what they can.

  • Registered just so I could contribute to this post.

Arrived at HN Malaga WA at 8:25. Was not aware the store opened at 8. Assumed the standard 9-5 operating hours.

Pulled up the driveway/parking and saw a family of six carrying six of them. I was pretty convinced I missed out.

All were gone but a helpful lady got me to do a backorder or raincheck some of you call it and honoured the price with an extra $45 for three years warranty (everyone should do this… this is an acer product).

It appears some customers got lucky with the price reduced to $198 due to human error of the cashier as I overheard some of HN employees talking about it.

Anyways its up on ebay before you even know it for a profit of 2 dollars (starting bid of 200).

EDIT: I'd like to also thank the OP for sharing this even though it did turn out ugly for some. Hope you all enjoy your Monday after today's rush :)

    • note when these were listed……both late yesterday and both stated as used (one two months old)
we will see the ebay bandits, but these two are clealy not.

      • ummm one of em still has the the plastic protection stuff on it

        • Yeap. That's what I've suspected. - the avoidance of backlash theory.

Not only that, if you recently bought a device/hardware and that device/hardware went through a price-smashing door-bustin sale.. does that not seem to be the most financially unsound thing to do?

I say sir, you're the ebay Bandit trievalot! :D - jk!

        • yes, but listed at 12:30 YESTERDAY
either a very confient purchased (knwoing they'd get one today) or stolen from coles (seeing as its got the packaging you see at Coles)

          • @trievalot: Could very well pull the image off the web and could also very well remove the post if he did not end up getting it. Why are we fighting? I'm just posting links. I'll remove them if you are unhappy/auction owner.

  • -2

no fighting, i got one and i wont ebay it. fees too high, if someone here wants it they can have it for $299. :P

    • yeah if u sell it for 250 with a 250 starting price your left with 238.50 after ebay fees, after paypal fees your left with 232.20
if that 250 included registered delivery ($29) with extra cover to $350 that leaves u with only $3.20 profit

  • +2

agreed, no infighting between us ozbargainers. lets get this thread back to the anti-HN thread it started as.

    • Agreed.

  • Thanks for the advice Gary, I just contacted my local store and they were happy to raincheck it for me. I was so disappointed when I missed out this morning so fingers crossed, they are able to get more stock.

Gary I was wondering why do guys run these sort of offers with such limited stock, surely you guys would know that you would be overwhelmed with customers???????

    • I don't know Gary's pov on this. The sales person I spoke to at the Warn Ponds Geelong store was saying he didn't know why ppl went crazy on this offer considering they had the EEEpc for approx $30 more than this one. But I told him they might be suprised how big a diff $40 or $100 is to ppl. $200 after cash back for this kind of pc compared to closer to or above $300. I found it hard to justify spending $500 on a "make do" pc knowing that I'd be wanting to get something better in the near future. Also there are more powerful second hand pc's going for the $300 mark and up. But $200 yes that's justafiable.

      • +2

it's because of the sub 200 dollar price tag after cash back i do believe that the eeepc went for aprox 370 with no cash back (iirc), that's a 70 dollar difference which turns out to be a massive 35% more than this acer

        • From what you describe Trance N Dance you left off the 1 from the 70 if it was 370 for the eeepc so yes huge diff.

          • @DxxP: oh crap no sorry i was ment to type 270 which is about 30 dollars more than the acer

            • @Trance N Dance: :) no prob. Point still made…$30 more before cash back and $72 diff after cash back. Hey that $72 is a tank of petrol (yes a guzzler) or a week of groceries for me.

    • Hi
Can be a challenge sometimes to pick the demand. That being said we have moved quickly to try to come up with a solution. I can say that we will work very hard to help every genuine customer. I have responded to as many people as I can here (given that OzBargain only allows me 5 posts per day as a newbie so i need 2 accounts atm) and I have made my email address known here so we are being very open in regards to feedback. I am in the process of sending the emails out to each store franchisee now.
Glad that your local store has you all sorted out.
      Enjoy your easter.

      Gary

  • Went to all the stores in the state (ACT: we only have two stores) and both had sold out. Like a few of the other posters here, I wasn't aware that some stores had decided to open earlier than 9. At the second store one of the salespeople was not even aware of the sale (what a joke). I don't know if he was pleading ignorance to get rid of me, or he genuinely did not know.

I'm a little disappointed =( but I did get a Targus USB Hub for $28 down from $44.95.

  • I put my name down this morning for a raincheck at Oxley. I arrived at 8.12am thinking they opened at 9am.

My sister went to the Indooroopilly store just after 8am and missed out. She phoned Indooroopilly after Gary Wheelhouse's post but they acted like they don't know who Gary is and said the deal was only available between 8-9am and they sold out. They wouldn't take her name.

    • forward this incident to gary and he should be able to sort this out
      [email protected]

    • By the sounds of things Gary works at their head office and the sales people might not be aware who he is. Also, I would suggest that since the offer of raincheck was only offered a matter of a couple of hours ago, it may take a little time to filter to the salespeople. Just try again later maybe. Be sure to speak to the Manager/Franchisee as well.

  • I got a quick question, I got a Acer one NAV50 (A0532H) instead of EM250, since the sale guy told me they are same one just differ in color and the NAV50 also eligable for cashback. But I couldn't find any information online.

    Anyone knows?

Also they charge me $239, not $237! …..Can I just get my $2 back!

  • I think a few of you are being a tad unfair on Harvey Norman. Doesn't look like they only had a few units at each store, more like a few dozen. I'm sure they were as surprised as anybody that there'd be that much interest in them. I'm definately pretty surprised!

    • A few dozen per store is a VERY low number. HN knew exactly how much interest there would be for this product and knew they could sell other more profitable products who came to specifically buy this product.

  • +1

Yeah, I put my details in too. Quite funny actually because someone pushed in while I was lining up for this as well.

I arrived at 7:45am at Auburn but didn't make it to the stairs in time. They had like 5 allocated (heresay). Then the rest of us (about 10—>that later increased to like 30) were told to stand in some corner in no particular order.
Then at like 8:30, they did a lottery for the final 10 (according to the lottery guy). Was pretty annoyed when people who arrived afterwards got the netbook. The redshirt was pretty defensive but he had to be I guess.
Knowing that some of us were really annoyed, they offered another laptop in its place-some 15 inch one with 40gb harddrive. It may have been a good deal (I have no idea) but I was in the market in for a netbook. There was a guy there who was dressed in green and he knew a lot of stuff. He said it probably wasn't a good deal (I bring him up because any money he is on ozbargain-hi btw)

After placing my details, a getting scoffed at by the salesperson and others to think I was naive enough to get a second chance, I made my way to Domayne in Auburn.
I arrived here at 8:50, to find the last piece (mind you a display piece) was being sold. The computer guy I got tried to upgrade me to the Asus eeepc for 398 (10.1 inch) saying it was better because it had a wireless n card. I was annoyed by this time and I asked him how 200 dollars more for a different brand and better network card was practical. I didn't know if he was just ignorant or arrogant.

    • +1

      Yeah, down with Harvey, FTW

    • ignorant mostly, they're just trying to make a sales, and half of em dont know anything about the stuff they're selling.
yeah that other laptop u are refering to was an IBM referb and is no way worth anywhere near the 240 that they were selling it for, cluncky, old 4:3 reso and i think it was an old centrino or p4 too

    • +1

lol @ the ozbargain guy comment.. maybe ozbargain should print and sell t-shirts so we can proudly, publically proclaim how cheap we are and know another ozbargainer when we run into em at sales. lol

      • +1 to that
        id buy one :D

        • +2

LOL, yeah id like to have one, but "buy" it? Hmmmz i dunno, might be a bit cheap for that ;)

  • I went to Waurn Pond Store at 7:45 to find out I missed out!!! They asked the dude who was lining up at the front 'who was around you when lining up' and he ended up saying all the family member around him and they each got one. Gary can you please do something for me? I really wanted on :(

  • Just called my local store (O'Connor WA). They took the raincheck no questions asked, and the computer franchise manager said that if it arrived after the cashback finished with Acer, they would sell it to me for the after cashback price.

    • Hi
Great news, glad that has been sorted out for you.
If you need further help here let me know.
      Gary

  • Ended up getting one after going to Warwick WA one at 8:15. Asked the guy and then told me it was all sold out. Waited a bit then he came and told me the demo unit is still there. checked it out in very good condition and left with it. can't really complain.

    HELP !!!

  • Travelled an hour to get to the closest store thinking the opening time was 9.00
Rocked up a little after 8.30 with the kids with high hopes at Mt Gambier store and of course was informed that they were all sold in the first minutes.
The sales person went on to say one fella run through the store when the doors open, up the back to where the laptops are and run along looking for the bargains.
When he got to the end of the row he realised that the netbooks were on a table he had passed on the way through.
By the time he got back to the table - all the netbooks were gone!!

On getting home i rang the computing section of the store and asked about a raincheck, to which he said that it wasn't available.
I have sent an email to Gary hoping for one as well.

Certainly one way to get the kids up early by telling them they might be getting a netbook!
Wish it worked on school days!

  • I'm also getting "Your SNID is unable to be validated at this time. Please check and re-enter your SNID"

  • Gary or anyone got any idea when HN might be getting more stock in?(ie for people that got rainchecks/backorders). Guess that is more a question for Acer…..

Cos I dunno wait months for this lappie and miss out on the cashback.

  • I'm another one who got suckered in to going to a Brisbane store a couple of minutes after opening, to be told the netbooks were all gone. From comments here and over at Whirlpool, it seems to be that ~20 units appears to have been a typical store stock. HN literally are experts in retailing, and either would have known, or could reasonably be expected to have known, that they wouldn't be able to meet more than a small fraction of the demand for this offer that occurred in the first hour. HN were "surprised" by the interest?? I don't think so.

If YOU think this was bait advertising, ring 1300 302 502 next Tuesday - that is the ACCC's complaints line.

  • Both my teen son and myself felt so threathen at Wiley Park store due to mob behaviour and non existent crowd control had to leave without purchasing although would have been entitled to purchase…some very selfish people in this world

  • +2

To those having trouble with the SNID, start here:
    http://redemption.emachines.com.au/

and congrats to Maltopia on what must have be a very stressful first post…

    • Thx pop - SNID worked fine there

  • +1

Of course it's bait advertising the amount of dissapointed people I saw that had actually bought something anyway, I suppose to make themselves feel better. Harvey will make back any loss on the netbooks easily.

  • Went in at 9:30 and it was sold out but I expected this, only stopped by on the off chance there would be some left.

  • I was in BLACKTOWN NSW and got the last one which was a display model. IMHO, It was very unfair how they only had "16" models in the whole store… everyone was lined up and ran through like a pack of wild dogs to get there and there were like 30+ people. Several families lined up too and they were all buying one per person which was a farce… It works well though and I was up there by 7:40 to get there…… Now time to save for a gaming PC eventually….

  • I actually thought of buying one when I first saw this post. Then on the night before the sale I thought I didnt really need one and that I valued my sleep a bit more (I actually woke up at 11.38am hahahaaa).

Well I think these sales are pretty exciting - the waking up early, lining up, eyeing everyone else in the queue, wondering if I will actually get one and if all this was actually worth it.

I think HN would have known that there would be a lot of people who wanted one of these netbooks. There should have been a minimum of 100 per store. However when you multiply 100 by the number of stores, it's quite a lot of netbooks.

Eventhough I didn't want one of these netbooks, I Would like to thank Gary for all he has done. I think what you have done (Single-handedly) on ozbargain has minimised the negative impact on HN. I for one will continue to shop at HN when there is a great bargain.

I hope everyone here has a great long weekend.

    • ok maybe 100 every store is over the top but at least 50 each store and 100 for the big ones

  • so i assume gonna give in the original tax invoice for the cashback? can we do a photocopy (with proof getting from pharmacy/doctors/police)?

    • nope it says a copy of the receipt is fine in the fine print, but u need the original SNID barcode on the side of the box.
but to be sure im sending in the original receipt, i dont want what happened with sony happening again for me

      • i got them to print 2 receepts…..both are identical (no sign of the word copy) so essentially i kept an original ansd sent one off.
