Acer Netbook 10.1” LED screen. Wireless connections. Integrated webcam. Multi-in-1 card reader. Weight 1.1kg. Microsoft Windows XP. 160GB hard drive disc 1GB RAM. Intel Atom processor 1.6GHz. Same as what Coles was selling for $389 earlier this year - http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/21689 Pay $237, then claim $39 back from Acer? From what I have read from the Coles offer, it has a 3 cell battery that lasts about 3.5 hours.

          Saw this. Thought of asking if the box was intact (as I was buying for a gift) to see what answer he concots… its obvious the SNID has been cutout.

          BTW - if you did get this deal and have a problem with wireless dropping after standby mode, change legacy power save algorithm in wireless properties to PS Poll.

    We went to Perth Cannington store at 7:30am and around 50 people there already. When the shop open, most of people run to computer section. for EM250 i think only have 42 in stock, less 3 mins all gone. so lot of people came before 8am but still couldn't get it. However, 5 mins later the staff took out quite a lot of ACER NAV50 (A0532H)for people who miss EM250, they said it is same as EM250. Well, those NAV50 (A0532H) gone straight away. Then again many people still couldn't get one, so the staff took 12 off HP notebook out ( i don't know the model), this HP notebook a bit expensive than EM250 but still good deal. (if i am not wrong, i think it is $250) So i assume Cannington store sold at least 100 notebook for the customers and i saw staffs are taking customer details for who came early and miss out the deal.

    It is my first time shop at Harvey Norman and i think staffs are very helpful over there. I will shop there again.

    I checked HarveyNorman web site on the previous night and found that the store opens at 9 a.m. So I woke up early with an alarm and went to Chadstone, Vic HarveyNorman by 8.30 a.m. I missed the offer by just 2 mins said the store person. He said they sold 160 units of them. Only one guy before me missed the deal everybody else who came before had it. I was very dissapointed to loose it. I didn't know that they open the store at 8 when they have deals. This was the first time I tried HN for a door buster deal. I wanted to buy one for my Mom as a gift. When I came out from store to return home, in the car park I saw in some cars all 5 ppl had one in their hands. They have taken more than the fair quota :(
    Does anybody know any other place to buy a similar config for a closer price. I want to buy one within next month. I missed this. Still this was a very good deal and +1 from me.

      Nothing around for that price, best bet is to get one off a member here or the few that are on ebay. These deals normally satisfy 200 people AU wide and leave the rest moaning and groaning about it for months.

    For $198..that's worth getting up super early for, seeing it's only a one hour sale and I wanted a cheap netbook anyway. Hubby was getting up early to go to Rose Bay - cool just drop me off at Bondi Junction at 8am on the way- no worries about parking! As it turns out, we fart-arsed around so didn't leave home til 8am. Was tossing up whether to go to Wiley Park or Auburn as they are both closer to home. Ended up going to Bondi (smart choice seeing the crap that happened at both the other stores). Got there at 8:30 expecting a frenzy of bargain hunters or no netbooks left…but NOTHING. Looked like a normal slow morning esp since it's Easter - had to ask a dude where the computer was, and there was a pile at the front of the store- about 20. Thanks for all the feedback, I know where to go (and where to avoid) next time there is another sale. Thanks also for the SNID info - I was about to storm into HN professing my consumer rights until I saw the cashback extension, emachine cashback info and link to cashback website.
    I will prob send them a copy of my invoice, as that is what the conditions say. I don't think they send back your original receipt.
    My box says the RRP is $499 and that is no 3 of 38, so good on whoever it was who got one at 9:20 at the same shop!

    Nah,as a previous person suggested..those in the Eastern Suburbs won't fight tooth and nail for a bargain. And for those on a mission you take a chance of getting up early and going for a road trip to Bondi- is not good for parking and you have to go for a big walk through the mall and up 5 lots of escalators. I'd like to see an army walking through the shops..all with a bargain basement netbook..Bring it on!
    BTW..my invoice says $339, which I guess was the price b4 the promo?

    Yep, the invoice is $237, and I'll get $39 back. (The $339 is the non-stampede price). BTW Trance N Dance..it's only $39, so Acer should be happy with the copy. Originals are for expensive promotions like free cameras, Blu Ray Players and the like.

    Got lucky at chadstone HN, walked in at 8:05, saw EVERYONE with a little box and figured I missed out…
    Walked straight to the back of the store where the landline phones are and asked a guy if there were any left, and he goes out back and gets me one :D
    As expected he tried selling me every extra under the sun, bless 'im.

    I was anticipating some not-so-great build quality, but I've taken it apart and reassembled already and it seems a pretty sturdy little thing.

      charger is a small power brick - size of 4 mars bars taped together maybe

      yes, smaller than 10.2 inches, but bigger than 10.0

      allegedly 3.5 hours - im finding about 3 with on, so 4 would be doable with a dim screen

        By the time anyone takes eBay and Paypal fees and postage out they will be making nothing even that over $300 pricing, I doubt anyones in this for the money more just added the extra on top to cover the crap you need to pay eBay just to sell an item these days. Youd be spending $40+ just on fees and postage as mentioned previously. Most of these people are selling one offs and I noticed one got sold for $350+ the day before the sale so existing sellers with stock perhaps?

        I too missed out on the netbook, even though I got to the store extra early. I have morals and do not push and shove, like I saw. I was next in line, but they ran out, didnt lose it like many did, what does it achieve? I have been given a raincheck, which I thought was really good. Just wondering if HN can get enough of these acer machines to go around?

        Gary….any idea how long it will take to get the netbboks out to the stores (ie. for the people like me that got rainchecks)?

          Not at this stage.
          Due to public holidays I think it will be late in the week before we have an answer.
          The product team will be working on this first thing.
          But it is very easy now to keep you in the loop as I have contact details and we have sent every request to the relevant stores.
          If you have a confirmation email from me then the franchisee has your details.
          If you arranged your raincheck at store then stay in touch with the store.
          So as soon as we get an answer you will know very quickly.

            Understand it may take a while to get an ETA due to number of requests and you have to get them from Acer. So Acer is "going to be the holdup" so to speak. Just that I need the netbook in about a couple of weeks, if it hasnt turned up, have to try an organise something else, OR buy something else.

        maybe…maybe not it shows on the side of the box WWAN no, meaning a model exists that does have it. Plenty of people have added WWAN to other laptops so it might be possible. It will void your warranty if it can be done but for a $198 laptop who cares :)

      is it in the manual that says it or on the side of the box?
      look on the side of the box and if it says WWAN yes then u have a 3g modem built in, if it says no then u dont.
      the manual is very generic and covers the whole 250 range i think including the ones that have the modem, so even if you dont have a modem built in it will tell you where u can find the slot for the sim even though u dont have one

        I have to say that Gary has done a great job and I'm very happy with it. Previously I had bad experience with Harvey Norman and also was not happy when I missed out this deal although I went to the store 15 minutes earlier.

    Here is the announcement regarding the Acer eM250 Netbook from Harvey Norman Super Saturday on 3 April 2010.
    We have today secured stock to cover every single raincheck we have made available to our customers!
    The product that we have sourced is the Acer Emachine (exact same as the model we had on sale on Saturday).
    The price will be exactly the same, which is $237 before $39 cash back, $198 after cash back.
    The stock will be coming in drops.

    Stock will ship from Acer on the 16th April.
    Stock will ship from Acer on the 30th April.

    Our expectations are the first shipment and half of the second allow us to have all your rainchecks fulfilled.
    I want to stress that we have absolutely negotiated enough stock to cover all your rainchecks.

    Your local store will be in contact via email or phone, depending on what contact information you supplied.
    They will be able to give you an ETA for when you will receive your raincheck.

    So to confirm:

    • Yes all rainchecks will be fulfilled.
    • Yes all cashbacks will be honoured.
    • Yes it is exactly the same model as the one advertised on Super Saturday.
    • Stores will contact all customers to confirm their rainchecks will be honoured.

          does this mean those who actually got one will have their cash back delayed?? i know these things usually take 4-6 weeks…..id hate it to drag into 8-12…….
