Huawei P8 Titanium $333 (QLD, SA, TAS & WA Only) @ MSY

401

Limited stock, and only in few stores (I think that qualifies for a forum move, nonetheless), but otherwise a killer deal for a 2015 Huawei flagship. Still got rockin' specs and a gorgeous design.

Some stores say limited stock, but in my experience with MSY, that means a few are left, always. Your mileage may vary.

Specs for those curious:

  • 5.2" 1080p IPS-Neo Display w/ Gorilla Glass 3
  • Kirin 930 SoC (8x A53 (4x @ 2.0GHz, 4x @ 1.5GHz))
  • 3GB RAM
  • 16GB Storage
  • 13MP RGBW Rear Camera w/ OIS and Dual-Tone Flash
  • 8MP Front Camera
  • 802.11n 2.4GHz Wi-Fi
  • 2680mAh Battery
  • All Metal and Glass Design
  • Android 5.0 (Planned 6.0 Marshmallow Upgrade, Huawei have a good track record)

Availability: THIS PRODUCT IS CURRENTLY OUT OF STOCK

    • If you got to 'Stock Availability' a few stores have stock. It's out of stock online.

      • +1

True that. About five or so stores nationwide showing limited stock. In all probability more than ten or so in stock nationwide which I think meets minimum OzB guidelines.

      • +2

you should put SA and WA only, in the title…

        • +1

          I'll do that now :)

Edit - Other states show 'Limited stock' and in my experience with MSY, that means stock is available - 100% of the time. Your mileage may vary

    • +4

Not everywhere. Click the stock availability tab. Stock in WA, SA…
C'mon, navigating the MSY website is a breeze! They set the standard for usability :)

      • They sure do

Nice fast loading times too! ;)

  • No stock in NSW.

    Stock found in Slacks Creek

    • or victoria…

    • Title and description have been updated to reflect that :)

My brother has an iphone 4S and this P8. Sadly the camera quality of 4S (2011) still beats Huawei (2015) today…
    especially in low light shots.

    • proof? pretty sure you have no clue what you're on about.

      • +7

I knew someone was going neg me.
Teach me how to upload images, I'll show you. But don't get me wrong, my brother and I do love this P8. Just not so impressed by its camera quality in low light.

Sharing a negative but honest feedback shouldn't deserve a neg I think. :(

        • -4

          Credibility out the window.

          1. My brother… yada yada bla bla. - hearsay.
          2. Requires help to upload photo - inability to understand tech and complains about IQ on a digital product.

          Interwebz warrior at it's best.

        • Teach me…

Really? Anything else? Perhaps 101 on using camera will also help.

        • Teach me how to upload images

          Is this you?

        • +1

Will give you benefit of the doubt, i suggest you use imagur, easy to upload using mobile or laptop.

Just paste the link and let the community decide

        • @zeomega: That doesn't mean he's blind..

        • I didn't neg, but I had a look at the reviews and I'm calling bullshit.
If it is honest feedback, you should be more than happy to put up some photos.

      • Come on sol3x, put your money where your mouth is.

    • OK. And the P8 beats it everywhere else and costs 60% less.

    • I have both and the P8 walks all over it, and breaks its front and back glass

    • See. We all know you're just a trash-talking little kid.

So if I buy it, I can get a free case at TTP Westfield Huawei store? Like that other deal said a few weeks ago?
    edit: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/234575

    • +1

that offer is only for Huawei 6p

      • Ah thanks

  • +2

    Is that a good buy?

Dont really know this phone but Im still using my old HTC M7 lol

    • Congrats. You wont regret buying it. Its a pretty good phone.

    • Nice! It's an awesome phone, you won't regret it :)

  • Well, residents in NSW, VIC, ACT and NT have been discriminated by this Titanium phone.

    • +7

As a resident of one the states that have stock….. welcome to our world!!!! Signed by the usual suspects SA and WA….

    • Us NSW and VIC residents shouldn't really be complaining though as we get a lot they don't.

      And y'forgot TAS ;P

      • What's a Tas? :P Ya I wasn't sure if they had stock still….

  • Only 16GB storage.

    • +5

You can use the 2nd SIM slot as a micro-SD slot

  • Hey does anyone know if this phone is the same size as the "lite"?
I'm after a case if someone knows of a good one, cheers.

    • This is 5.2", the lite is 5".

  • Supports B5 and B28, fantastic to go with the prepaid avalanche

  • Stock available in Victoria as I have just purchased 1 online.

Purchased this from the Dick Smith clearout sale in December for ~$350. Good phone (at this price) but don't get fooled by the specs. 3gb ram, octa-core blah blah, it still lags like most android phones once you get apps going. I'll give it a 7/10 for performance but wouldn't be paying anymore than the price listed here. Very average battery life as well. Definitely NOT a flagship performance phone despite the specs. But at this price, it's a good deal.

What works in its favour is a gorgeous screen, build of the phone and a good camera.

Also, my phone doesn't detect the 5Ghz band (and so does the review below), so I'm not sure if the specs are right as listed.

    A good review: http://www.anandtech.com/show/9260/the-huawei-p8-review/5

    • As far as I know none of the P8 variants detect 5GhZ (N or AC). I bought mine from MobileCiti and have been very happy with it, despite not having NFC (long story short, there are two variants available in this country, dual sim or single sim + NFC).

    • -2

it still lags like most android phones once you get apps going

      Meaning it's the users fault.

      • Shall I stop using my apps?

    • +2

Also got it from DS clearout. Its a flagship phone. Flagship camera, design/build. Yes it lags behind in graphics performance but you'd only notice it if you're a hardcore gamer. Also lacks developer custom roms. But otherwise an awesome phone for $330.

Also has standout LTE performance. I get 20-30Mbps regularly and up as high as 60Mbps in some areas. Better than my NBN!

  • It's not a flagship, but it's a good phone for that price.

    • -4

You appear to be misunderstanding the way flagship is being used in the context of phones.

This is Hooway's most powerful device, flagship device at the moment.

      • +4

No it really isn't. That title belongs to the Nexus 6P which I'm typing on, and they've made many others which are more powerful

      • +2

The true current flagship is Mate 8. The flagship of 2015 is Mate 7 & Mate S. And I'm not including the Nexus 6P here as it's a Nexus.

  • +8

I have a Cisco router and now a Huawei phone so all my information goes to both the US and China. I don't want anyone to miss out.

    • +7

get Kaspersky AV and give Russia a taste too

      • Haha I like this

  • You can wipe QLD from the title.

  • wow got a email saying was ready to pickup at 9, then just rang to say it's now "out of stock".

took them two hours to sell the phone to someone else… thanks msy

    • Why the neg on my deal?

    • not letting me remove the neg, according to MSY adelaide they never had stock, goodluck to everyone else.

      • You click votes at the top of the page, and then revoke.

  • +1

    WA soldout

  • is it GRA_L09 model or GRA_UL00?

  • Wow.. Fist time I've looked at this phone.
The 3G and 4G band support is very impressive.
Even supports both 800 Mhz 3G bands for Docomo Japan!!!
    Great travel phone!!!

    edit
I assume this is the GRA_L09

    • Taken from MSY website "Network:GRA_L09"

      • The website lists both. Which is it?

        Network
        GRA_L09:
        TDD LTE:B40
        FDD LTE:B1/B2/B3/B4/B5/B7/B8/B12/B17/B18/B19/B20/B25/B26/B28
        UMTS: 800(B6,Japan)/800(B19,Japan)/850/900/1700/1900/2100MHz
        GSM 850/900/1800/1900MHz
        Support NFC
        GRA_UL00:
        TDD LTE: B38/B39/B40/B41 (2555MHz~2655MHz)
        FDD LTE:B1/B3/B4/B7
        UMTS: 850/900/1700/1900/2100MHz(B8/B5/B4/B2/B1)
        GSM : Main card: 850/900/1800/1900MHz
        Second card:850/900/1800/1900MHz

  • Does this support dual active SIM ? Can I have both SIM cards on LTE to future proof against Telstra 2G shutdown ?

    • Dual SIM standby, not active.

    • I thought the GRA_UL00 is dual SIM (no NFC)
The GRA_L09 is one SIM + NFC
      am I right?

      • Yes I also think so.

I am interested in GRA_L09 but pity cant find if MSY has this version..

  • I got a P8 Lite a couple months ago and although these phones are decent for their price, unfortunately their Android skin (Emotion UI) removes basics like the app drawer and data usage settings for a half baked iOS-lite skin. Also, these phones are horrible for ROMs and the like due to their Kirin chipset. Of course, if these don't bother you (the first can be sort of fixed with something like Nova Launcher) then I'm assuming this is a great buy

    • A. App Drawer issue is solved with a custom launcher
      B. Data usage is solved with a 3rd party app
      C. Yep, but for the price it's hard to complain.

All valid points, but fortunately the beauty of Android is they're all fixable (except the custom ROM thing) :)

This looked like a good deal until Kogan eBay store started selling the G4 for $370. Certainly worth the extra $37.

    • Different strokes for different folks. The LG G4 has an awful plastic design, while this has a gorgeous metal unibody with glass accents. For me, that'd be almost worth the swap, alone. Lucky I have a Nexus 6P though :P

  • I kinda feel jipped…

    LG G4 4G LTE H815 (32GB) $370 @ Kogan eBay

    :/

    • You didn't. The G4 may look great on paper, but unless you love photography, I personally like the P8 much more.
