In so many ways, this 'deal' represents all the things that are currently wrong with this great site

TA - ive never negged you before but youve really let yourself down here

Neg from me for any/all of the reasons as outlined above

If youd like to voice your opinion directly to the mods, please have a look at this thread regarding many of the issues raised in the link below - your comments here may not be read by anyone who needs to see them

  • I bought the alarm clock for $19 shipped, bargain IMO
Cheapest I could find is $29 + shipping

    +1 TA

    • +2

It would have been a good deal if it was a Digital Radio and not analogue AM/FM

      • But this has a Sony logo on it, which costs ~$20 when it's on an AM/FM clock. So this guy actually profited 1 dollar.

That's how all of this works, yeah?

      • digital radio not much good outside select capital cities.

        • bloom is from Melbourne.

  • How about Xperia C4? Is it a good buy at $200?

    • Seems okay, I prefer the waterproofing of the M4

      • Interested in C4 do you know which 4G frequencies it supports? Nothing is mentioned in specs

      • different size and res of screen though.

    • They were $500/400 new. While that should be a hint, you should google reviews on these phones before purchase.

  • +4

The votes would be pretty even if the 30+ negatives were not revoked. This post is exactly the same as the Dick Smith sale post that has 65+/65-. Both posts followed good Sony/Dick Smith sales, however this is the one that has negatives revoked for reasons that aren't good enough.

    • +3

Still more getting revoked even now.

      • +3

If people learnt how to formulate an argument as to why they negged, then the vote would stay. Simple really

        • +1

why? you dont for a positive.

        • +1

You mean like you 'did', by incorrectly negging for deceptive pricing but linking to a completely different set of items?

TA isn't the only one getting a free pass around here.

        • @c0balt:

          Report it then.

I chose not to argue with you then, I'm choosing not to now.

        • +3

          @Spackbace:

Well you did choose to argue with me until I pointed out you incorrectly negged for deceptive pricing.

I did report it, and nothing happened because certain people get free passes.

Choose to do what ever you like.

Just to clarify: I think certain people do deserve to be held in higher regard to others. You and TA have both put in a lot of time posting great deals and informative comments (you can look at my voting history to see how many times I have upvoted your deals and comments) and deserve to have that recognised. It's just when the things like this happen that I think no one should get treated differently.

I use PricePal from now on because Cashrewards don't pay up after 2 months even I sent them my invoices.

    • Don't give up getting your cashback from CR - it took me 5 months to get mine.

I put in a ticket and sent the invoice on 22/10/15 and just got a reply on the 21/3/16.

I actually forgot about it and wouldn't have corresponded with CR a week after putting in the support ticket, but the money did finally get put into my account - after 5 months.

      • Hope they do pay up in 5 months time, but I won't hold my breath after I read their FAQ page.

I want to claim for Missing Cashback, but my purchase was more than 60 days ago?

If it is over 60 days since your purchase, then we are unable to investigate your claim.

This is because, in our terms with stores we have agreed to only follow up on claims for purchases within the previous 60 days.

If, however, you wish to claim because your transaction has recently been disallowed or declined by the store (i.e. your Cashback has been declined or crossed out and replaced with zero) – but your purchase is now over 60 days old, then under our terms we are able to accept your claim and look into this on your behalf. If this is the case please submit a claim despite the purchase having occurred more than 60 days ago. Some stores however will not accept enquiries on transactions that have been declined and in this case we will be unable to investigate further and will be unable to claim Cashback for you on transactions from these stores. Stores with a 'no enquiry policy' are displayed on the 'special terms' section on the store's page on the Cashrewards website.

Pricepal is not much better. I submitted my invoice and the rep said it could take months to confirm..

      • At least they responded to your ticket, but Cashrewards only sent out auto response with a generic email. They don't reply to ticket with an estimate pay out date.

        • +1

Same here, i have sent the invoice twice not a word from them :(

  • +1

Pretty great prices on Z3 covers ($9 delivered). These are normally insanely expensive, and there aren't many good cheap alternatives.
There are some good deals among the more "meh" ones. Not convinced this deal deserves that many negs.

  • +5

Lets hang him! his only posted 2572 posts with probably a 99% success rate… careful what you wish for guys TA stops posting because of this MOB mentality OzBargain will suffer.

    • +4

TA won't leave as his company needs this website

And most people are not hating on TA rather Sony

      • +2

Agree but TA posted here long before Cash Rewards, I saw the post didn't plus waited till active thought its not for me moved away just cant understand all the Hate & negs?

      • -1

Uhm…. I think Ozbargain needs TA. Frankly, I need TA. Honestly, what else will I do with all that money?

  • +3

Was looking for another pair of SBH60 headphones for my girlfriend but what a rip off. I paid $46 and Sony want $69.

  • Things that matter, they are either more expensive or lightly discounted (eg: HDRPJ670 Camcorder)

I have to agree, the sentiment is being overstated a bit.

Although you shouldn't be surprised when it comes to Sony. For them 20% discount is a Clearance much like Dick Smith I went to yesterday.

  • the beginnin of Fergie's London Bridge tuned on: oh … :)

  • For those voted negative, please check and make sure you are conforming to our voting guidelines. By simply stating "I agree" or targeting specific user will have your votes revoked. You shall also actually check the deals themselves — Xperia C4 $199, Xperia M5 $299, Xperia C5 $279 etc. Please find better deals to back up your negs.

    • +14

No disrespect, but how come people have to follow voting guidelines, when TA doesn't have to follow posting guidelines?

      • TA posted 1/2 hours before the sale starts as a speculation of the clearance sale — the same sale that he has already posted twice previously (#1 #2) therefore most would trust him to have a reasonable idea that a 3rd sale is coming up. I do agree that if moderators have acted more swiftly we could have removed the deals before posting. However majority of the negative votes come after the deal becomes live, and have nothing to do with the deal itself.

Finally, there's a rule breaker does not mean it's okay for you to break the rule.

        • +13

TA posted 1/2 hours before the sale starts as a speculation of the clearance sale

          speculation isn't a bargain though.

Can we pre-post all the supermarket weekly sales as 'speculation' there will be some items 50% off ???

How are we supposed to vote on 'speculative' items? How do we compare prices if the items are not known?

If we can't vote legitimately for a deal when it is posted, it belongs in the forums…

        • @jv: Did you fail to read the rest of the sentence? Did you have track records of getting both previous Sony Clearance deals and just tried to post the 3rd one 1/2 hour earlier?

However I have also acknowledged that it's a fault on us the moderators that we should have removed the deal swiftly. But if you look at the vote history, the majority of neg votes happened when the deal is live.

        • @scotty:

Did you fail to read the rest of the sentence?

          Probably… I tend to do that at times… :)

        • +1

          @jv:

I kind of disagree. There have been many times in the past where great bargains have been posted before they are official (eBay sales comes to mind).

It's just that it should have been removed once all the original negs came in for the TV's, headphones and more which were cheaper elsewhere.

Then the deal could have been reposted with the alarm clock, mobile phones and camera. It looks crazy having this many upvotes and removed negs for the items on offer now. If they were instock but ran out that's understandable - but changing a deal because most the items were found to be bad can be dealt with much cleaner, that is to remove and repost with the new items.

        • +1

          @c0balt:

there have been many times in the past where great bargains have been posted before they are official

So what items exactly were the bargains when this was posted?

        • +2

          @jv:

None, that's what I'm saying. If there's going to be a sale and someone gets wind of it (i.e. TA getting wind of this sale) then they should be able to post it.

I would rather find out earlier about an upcoming sale and be disappointed (like this), than find out about it too late to get stock.

        • +4

@jv: How many times have we all benefited on early info posts from pre-discount eBay sales? I have:)

        • +2

Not trying to argue with you just wanted clarification. I had a whole thing written about if this was another scenario blah blah, but you said admins were at fault for not initially deleting the deal.

Finally, if that's the case it shouldn't be okay for anyone to break the rules in any case, whether bad language, wrongly negging, not following posting guidelines etc. But what is needed is consistency in my opinion.

        • @MMM:

          benefited on early info posts

As I've said to Scotty many many times before…

        • @Dingus: You get consistency if the robots are doing the moderation. All moderators are also human and some of us have to juggle other tasks like developing the site, replying support emails, etc. We most definitely aim to have consistency, however regrettably it is not always achievable.

        • @scotty: That is fair enough. Thanks for your help.

        • @scotty: why can't you have a robot (can't think of the word) where if the post gets -5 votes or -3 or whatever then the post gets hidden and then a moderator has to manually approve the post?

        • why can't you have a robot (can't think of the word) where if the post gets -5 votes

          @Freyta

          That's a very good idea!

Why not add a script to hide post or comment when it has -5 votes? Why waste your time to do it manually? I've seen many sites already implemented this function.

        • @PW: because jv

        • @PW:

Why not add a script to hide post or comment when it has -5 votes?

Haven't we done that already? Comments with -4 or less votes get hidden, and deals with -2 or worse votes also disappear from New Deals list.

        • @scotty

Yes, you did with the comment. Thanks! :)

It was my mistake to use "or" rather than "and".

I actually meant to say "to hide post AND comment"

          Cheers

      • +2

There's plenty of "starting in X" deals which turn out to be dudd.

        • +2

Exactly and they should be deleted.

        • +1

          @Dingus:

Often there are group-buy deals where you know the item and price, and can legitimately vote if you think it's a bargain, even though you can't buy it yet…

This was not the case here though…

        • @jv: Oh that makes more sense. But yeah bit different to this.

    • +1

Wish I could + your comment scotty! most posts just disappear if a poor offer, this has got so many unnecessary negs? is hate Sony or Hate TA?
THANKS TA!!! for posting 2500+ post to my benefit really appreciate your effort

  • Ignore the idiots, TA. When there are multiple items on sale and even one of them alone are a deal then the entire sale is a bargain. Simply voice in the comments the items that aren't a good price.

    • -1

      the idiots, TA.

No need to call him names…

there are multiple items on sale and even one of them alone are a deal

like 80% of the posts are on this thread right now

          links to them please ?

        • @jv: all of yours, if you have an issue, message TA personally or contact the mods.

I came into the comments section to read what people bought and for what price, and to see if any of the items are good value.

        • +2

          @patchyz:

          all of yours,

          I suggest you re-read them then… obviously you haven't

        • -3

@jv: Ok well I don't have all day to read all of your messages, but creating a fuss over it in the comments section is annoying and you often do it. I'd rather you contact a mod for them to take the deal down, or private message the uploader.

          Though maybe that's just me.

        • +3

          @patchyz:

Ok well I don't have all day to read all of your messages

Yet you know they are 'off topic' without reading them…

Says a lot about the way you comment then….

        • @jv: I was implying that you have clearly posted a ton load of messages more than necessary, I read all of them up to here as now my eyes and brain hurts.

        • +2

          @patchyz:

I was implying that you have clearly posted a ton load of messages more than necessary

How would you know that, as you admit, you haven't read them….

        • -3

Are you serious? You must be trolling? Ok, well every single one of your comments might be necessary from beyond his point of page 4. Though prior to this point, from page 1 to this last comment I will post, I think, they aren't necessary.

You do this quite frequently, and to deals that I have purchased from, it's really annoying. I probably shouldn't have told you that though because that's probably why you do it lol.

Anyway, I don't want to spam this chat anymore than I already have.

        • +1

@patchyz: You should see JV's posts all over the rest of the site for the last couple of hours - it's like JV has tasted TA's blood and has gone a bit nuts.

Bought the little clock radio ICF-C1 for $19 delivered in the recent Sony sale. Nice design and handy little unit to put anywhere around the house. Came via courier, can't see how they'd make any money on that …

    • +6

Came via courier, can't see how they'd make any money on that …

The couriers charge a fee for delivering the item. That's how they make money.

      • I meant Sony, obviously.

        • oh….

sony probably just want to clear out their warehouse… to improve their cash flow.

        • Courier delivery Australia-wide would be $10 (at most) for an item like that. Probably cheaper than using Australia Post.

Courier delivery is expensive for casual users, but it's not under an account arrangement.

        • I never use radio on these clocks. But $19 for a digital tube clock is not too bad for me. I have a previous generation of this Sony clock radio and it is working fine after a few years use.

  • C4 or Xiaomi Redmi Note 2? Similar specs, thinking latter is better dus to ongoing software support.

    • +2

definitely a c4.local support and warranty.

      • Hmmm but software?

        • Xiaomi may not be a smooth ride all the way either, though. And the Sony one is waterproof.

        • +2

@Make it so: C series is not waterproof.

        • @spy: My bad. Good phone though. The M5 is also pretty awesome.

        • @Make it so: G4 for $370 is MUCH better.

        • +1

@spy: Until it starts boot looping and you have to send it back to your grey importer

        • @raven2000: kogan.

        • +1

@spy: Is that supposed to be a positive?

        • @raven2000: depends, but I won't delve into the hypothetical as C4 has its documented weaknesses and C5 is still $549. Moreover the Sony C4 is more prone to faults (yes I've owned the Zs before) thanks to the non premium parts it uses (it Sony's budget phone which is meant primarily for the Indian/Asian markets whereas the LG G4 is the premium flagship product). M series specs don't measure up to G4. 6" is an attractive proposition though on the C5.

        • +1

          @raven2000:

I've had that problem with two different LG phones. It's balls!

    • Stay away from xiaomi ,had my note 2 and battery barely stays for 2 hours. Changed and installed all global roms, still same for me . apparently ongoing issue with note 2 which xiaomi has not fixed yet.

    • +1

you can get a note 3 pro for 230… way above c4 in specs

  • +1

My opinion is better for TA to post something like this and we figured out and judge ourselves rather than none at all.

What do you think is going to happen next time?

    • +9

      maybe:

      • posting and other guidelines will apply to all
      • users will wait till they can actually check the price and possibly buy a bargain before positive them
      • create a new deal for the real bargains of a deal that has too many items in itself and some of the items are not a bargain
      • users will not positive a deal because of the user who posted it (it should never be about the user anyway)
  • +6

Biggest case of turning a molehill into a mountain since……ummmm………..ever.

    • +1

But jv needs precise order and function is his and everyone else's lives.
